One thing I noticed after playing 1 week with full MF gear on after patch and 4 days taking it off since it was ineffective, MF is broken. I think in the coding when they changed the rate, it broke MF in the process.

I tried it last night, at the Asura lab near Sunless, there is an event where the Kraits are attacking the lab to steal energy cores. I love this event due to easy kills, and numberous enemies. With MF on, I got an average of 7 Porious Bone, 3 BLues and 2 Scales.

After removing my MF set, same event average was 15 porious bone, 6 blues, 5 greens and 8 scales and 1 yellow.

That is a big difference.

Another example is Claw of Jormag fight. Been using MF for it for a long time and usually had 30 inventory slots open for it, my bag has never filled up. Past few days I went in with out MF and always had to run to vendor near Earthshake WP during the beginning of 2nd Phase because my bag filled.

Sure, its not a large enough scale to judge but its easy to see something is off.

And Veterans went back to being the way they were, vanilla. Can’t even get white or trophy.

Like others I’ve gone back to farming in my DPS gear. My observation is that in any situation where I’m attacking large groups of mobs — say, in an event like Grenth — I get more total drops wearing my DPS gear than I do when I’m wearing my MF gear.

I did so also last night before I went to bed, and you know what happened? First 3 kills, I got 3 greens. Next 3 kills, 1 Vicious Fang, 1 Powerful Blood and 1 Armored Scale. All those drops back to back of each other. Something is really off, only got 1 green, and few T5 mats when in my MF gear farming for 1 hour but got those in less than 2 mins with 6 kills after I swapped equipment.

Any reason to leave LA now?

Wish for next events, they involve the other cities because LA takes forever to load now with it packed. Spread out the events/dungeon entrances in other towns so the population is spread out instead of just 1 city.

When the patch first released, I killed 3 lvl 7 jotun and got 3 lvl 80 rares. My luck is just the opposite of yours

yes and they fixed that bugged drops in the next update because ppl were getting huge amounts of rares even from low level mobs….the fix was so good so that now mobs dont drop rares anymore rofl…

Yup, I bet many experienced this, including me. Right after patch for the first 5 minutes, I was in starter zone and got 4 greens, like 5 rares and 10+ blues from everything I killed. They must have done something and broke it for the players then broke it again to “fix” it.

Kills my enjoyment of killing Vets for loot when they were 80% guaranteed at least a blue when killed, now I can’t even get a vendor trash.

Also don’t like the fact that they reduced the amount of karma and money gained from doing a lower level event. Increasing exp is pointless imo.

I wish you guys would stop complaining about things like this, and started complaining about stuff like:

Hey, why do i have to spend 30 points in marksmanship to get a 6 second invulnerability while warriors have one that is for free?

Or why engineers have something that converts all conditions into boons and have a low cooldown, while we have something that has the same cooldown only it removes ONE condition?

Or how thieves have a 25% movement speed even though we are the ones known as scouts? Or the obstructed bug?

How the warrior’s rifle bleeds from any direction and applies a 10 second bleed while we have to flank and it lasts 3 to 4 seconds?

And, that if someone walks in circles, your pet doesn’t hit at all?

That is the kind of stuff that needs to be fixed. If they “fix” the sword rooting, it’s ability to chase down enemies will cease to exist.

Haha, this +1. SO many uneven traits compared to other classes, before weapon fixes, our traits and skills need to come first and of course the “Obstructed” bug.

Try this build, it’s what I’ve been using and I think it’s pretty effective, even in Dungeons and I expect decent in WvW.

I’ll edit in my stats when I have taken a screenshot of it.

My build is primarily Pow/Prec/Toughness, Head and Coat is Knight. Pants, Shoulders and Boots are Berserkers. All have Ruby Orbs in slots. Amulet is Knight, Earrings are Valkyrie and Rings are Berserkers. Greatsword is Knight with Superior Sigil of Battle and Shortbow is Berserker with Superior Sigil of Fire. Found the added toughness on helmet, coat and amulet gave the best stat distributions. Ruby orbs to supplement my prec/pow with only 15 into Precision trait tree. I did 15 into Skirmishing for the minor traits of weapon swapping. Goal of build is to lay down flame trap, then grab enemies with shortbow then use my traits of weapon swapping with greatsword but if solo enemy, I just stand still because my toughness allows me to take hits (PvE). After swapping to GS, swap pet for QZ and it’ll melt mobs. The sigil of Fire is added CC and dps from SB damage. When it activates, it’s like a added burst damage of an additional ~1000 give or take. Depending on situation/battle, swap flame trap/QZ for Lightning reflexes for stun break if you’re block is mistimed or on CD.

Total HP is ~17500 and crit rate is 39% (will edit other stats when I take a look).

Pet is Fern Hound for reasons I mention above in post and River Drake for F2 DPS.

Signet of Wild will help keep your hp up along with Fern Hound’s F2 and gaining vigor on using a healing skill.

Definitely one of best pet in-game. Definitely needs better AI too because it has problems like OP said. Ramage as One + Quickening Z + Stacks of Might = Melts everything. It just seems to have crappier toughness/vit than listed. It has same as a fern hound but it seems to always die faster.

I’ve just made 5 rare level 80 axes with mats I gathered as I cba to buy them off TP while their prices are crazy. I used Black Lion Salvage Kit. Guess how many globs I got? 1! This must be some kittening joke!

That happened to me few days ago too, salvaged 6 and got ZERO!!! Ectos.

It`s really sad how some weapons get less attention. Not only talking about Rifles, same goes for Longbows, Daggers etc.

We have 2 for the Longbow, but both require a Gift, which costs enormous amounts.

And then there is the Focus……

Tell me about it. I was hoping to get more SB or LB skins but ended up trying for a GS skin, lol. Alos notice how the Focus’ recipes are simple and easy compared to others, like the Bows?

Swap Stone Signet for either Flame trap or Lightning reflexes. Flame trap for 2 reasons, Fern hound and GS’s Swoop. Both will add Fire Aura for additional damage/cond damg. Lightning Reflexes for stun break in some situations where a knock down/stun will often get you killed in melee range.

Heal should be Healing spring to regen and heal status effect and pet since both are in melee range.

Personally I’m glad its not like GW1. I love GW1 but would have been bored if 2 was the same. Playing since release and still having a blast, with all the problems (aka my Ranger’s problems) and other things. I just can’t seem to stop playing and I’m sure many agree with me also.

And I only need 200 more ectos to forge this now. This is NOT going to be fun, especially with the every hour increase in price for Ectos ATM.

And I bet there are people getting sick of others complaining about not getting rares because their little RNG engine wasn’t revving that day. On Saturday I got 2-3 rares from 3 consecutive fractals chests, Sunday I got 1 rare from 3 consecutive fractals chests. There are new mystic forge recipes that again use ectos so the demand is high.

But guess what? NOT everyone does or choose to do Fractals. I’ve done it once, and probably won’t do it again unless with Guildmates. I also choose to be solo most of the time so ANet is effectively trying to “force” players to do something they dont want to, in my case Fractures. And to make it even clearer, I havent even made it to Cursed Shore, Im like 20% map complete on Malchor’s Leap so I’m not one of those zergers. I just want to do my thing on my favorite maps but doing so seem to be unfavorable since patch.

IT depends if you do the same thing that we do AW Lore. I myself posted a topic on this same exact problem. I actively hunt veterans, why? because it’s fun and I was guaranteed a drop 80% of the time. So after many days doing this before patch, you would know what to expect. After the patch, I can’t even get a white after 10 kills whereas before I would get at least 8 blues from the 10 kills.

Will not touch game for a long time.

I am wondering why Veterans don’t seem to drop anything anymore. It seems to have been reverted back to vanilla status, not even a white drop. Bug or intended? I would just like to know so I don’t waste my time on them.

Before Lost Shores patch – 7/10 kills would drop white and above
After Lost Shores patch – 1/10 kills would drop vendor trash or white

Edit- It seems I’m not the only one who see this problem. Just read a topic about decreased drop rate on orr.

Many exotics from the forge cost too much. Plus it’s another awesome GS skin, bias much? I myself am working towards it because I like it better than the GS legendaries but yeah…adding more GS legendaries when there is already 3 would just scream bias even more and that’s not even including Foe’s Essence or Volcanus. It should be reduced to be cheaper than legendaries but still expensive, not equal or more.

T6 materials are through the roof. Please help.

First people cry about bots. When bots are finally banned, people cry about not being able to buy cheap mats the bots had been farming in bulk.

I always considered bots to be a blessing in almost every single mmo’s i ever played.
In the other hand, traders are the plague.

GW2 is no exception.

Pretty much. If you stocked up the T5 mats like most did, then you will make a killing in profit. I would have even more gold if I didnt use my T5 to make 80 rares to toss into the forge. I’m just sad I didnt buy up the Ectos when they were 12s back at halloween.

I think the only thing that the ranger community feels is working or OP about a ranger is underwater. What gets the highest buff? underwater combat. Seems legit.

Funny thing is, we were pretty good at underwater combat to begin with.

Funny thing is, you’re right. I enjoy underwater because we were actually good. Harpoon skill 3 and a Jellyfish was OP. The jellyfish was so much OP that I actually use my Heal as One skill to heal my jellyfish, not me.

Don’t understand logic on how a jellyfish is more tanky than a shark though… but I’ll take it, lol.

GS/SB + BM is excellent.

Excellent and useless in a dungeons.

Kinda true for the bosses since they are pretty much immune to interupt BUT ever use it as a quick block? It’s amazing, when you’re out of stamina and can’t avoid the next hit, swap and pop 4, just saved yourself. Plus with the ability to move now, even better.

As for that video with the Ele, that’s some nice Ele action right there. We already know that it takes high amount of player skill to own with Ele and that player has it, most dont. A high amount of player skill as ranger doesnt account to much but still doable.

I strongly believe that the underwater fixes were just to fill some space….I cant find any other reason.The other weird thing is that they expected to believe it…This is kinda offensive

Nah, it’s to promote their new “Lost Shores” events. Shores = More swimming = All classes had underwater buffs/new combos. Look at all the patch recent patch notes and you’ll see that a majority had their underwater buffs already or just now….JUST in time for their new event! But yes, it’s to fill in the spaces because we should have gotten these last patch.

Guys, guys guys.

Didn’t he basically implied in his post that he would release the upgrades on rangers in parts?

While we work hard to keep updates going on all professions, not very build us going to contain fixes for everyone due to the nature of software development. One problem with rangers is the lack of build diversity created by a number of sub par utility skills. Many signets, a shout or two, and spirits are all a bit lackluster. That is the first place to expect improvements. Second is trying to improve the feel/ pacing on some weapons.

Unless they did all the changes they thought was necessary in this one patch, wouldn’t they eventually release more fixes and buffs to ranger on next balance patch?

Well not really. IT’s a given that the game will be continuously patched to balance or improve classes in the future. But it was implied that this patch will help us out a lot, which it did not. He raised the hopes high only to not even deliver a fraction of it.

The damage itself is fine but 5% more couldnt hurt. IT should definitely do more damage than a 1H sword but doesn’t, same reason why SB does more than LB, attack speed. But I’m fine with it since it’s a CC weapon and it’s my secondary. Swoop itself is amazing, DPS and control wise, I crit up to 1950 with it (and I’m not full berserker) and now that Maul does more damage, even better.

Only problem I see is the kick from 4. I LOVE the kick activating when I’m surrounded but none of the melee hits me, its the ranged attacks that set it off. Now that will be an issue.

And make us on par, even by a slight amount, with one of the two chosen classes? Madness!!! Next thing you know, you’ll be asking for spirits to be unkillable like banners. Where does it end?!

But again, why are banners not killable? IT’s a physical object, it should be targetable. Spirits are exactly what they’re named, spirits. Shouldn’t they be the unkillable one? You give spirits ability to not be targeted and we can keep their crappy proc rates and trait investments to make them move.

Hi Anders, I’m totally not here so skip this post and read on…

We made the improvements we had time to test. There are still more ranger improvements but when our time is limited we have to focus on things we know we can fix. Signets and shouts are still on the docket, and I suspect some of each of these will get some love in the next time around. As you can see a lot changed in this build for every profession and we have to test these changes as well.

I do still believe ranger is the profession in most need of improvement after this patch and we will continue to make those improvements. If we could fix everything at one time we would, but the reality is there are a limited # of hours to make changes.

I see a lot of talk about ranger weapons, but I don’t think that is the real problem. I think sword and longbow are both good weapons, which is why the changes take longer. The problems are deeper, in pets ability to hit moving targets, trait lines with not enough viable choices and skills that are often too specialized to really compliment the weapon builds. These aren’t things we can change overnight. The change to Greatsword block was in fact a very difficult change, but we made it because we knew it was the right thing to do.

Ok, that’s BS to me. I would like to see a patch released where at least 1 or 2 class weren’t touched upon. That is what happened to ranger, we didn’t get any update for a full month. If we are so important to change, then you can ignore 1 class for a patch to fix us (I nominate warrior for obvious reasons). This ranger patch could have been released for halloween (besides the water ones, because of your obvious ploy to new content), heck, it could have been released last week. Think about it, 1 full month of no patches and we get only ~7 changes in 1 month while another class gets over 20 in that same timeframe.

Look at all those underwater skill changes, and look at the name of the new content…“LOST SHORES”. Looks like you guys were busy making our underwater skills better for this patch for across the board. Seriously, fix your game and bugs before adding new content.

And another BS, you say Longbow is fine? THEN WHY THE F did you buff it on a warrior? They do more damage, AoE better with their longbow YET they are the one to get a buff?

I was excited when you guys set a release date because you said “It’ll be released when it’s finished” but obviously the game is not.

Oh noes, by omitting every detail somebody can make it seem like complaining isn’t justified…
You do realize they did the same thing with shortbow and then called it intended?
They haven’t posted a single thing about where they see the ranger as and where they want it to be… leaving us entirely in the dark about the class.
Then when the patch came around, they focused their buffs on f*ing water combat and beating down the only viable spec..

Ok, ok roll back a month, they announced that they were delaying updates on only rangers because they wanted to test out the changes a bit longer, implying the changes were large in impact… few rangers were making it into tourny play and they were becoming less and less popular in it as people started getting strats down and whatnot, so it made sense.
The combination of no one having any idea where the devs thought the class was and general uselessness of the class left people looking towards a big change.
But when those changes came around to being perfected… they focused on buffing f*ing water combat…. ignoring quite literally next to every problem people have been posting about here since launch and, hopefully mistakenly, adding in a 100%-20% CD increase on all traps (nailing to the ground pretty much the only working ranger spec atm).

That is just terrible work.
Every part of that is just, utterly, terribly played out.

WAR grade.
And that’s far from a compliment.

Took every word out of my mouth. If this was the intended patch for us, it could have easily been applied back at the halloween patch. This stuff doesnt warrant us waiting longer than the other class.

Hey all, we are aware of the bug with Ranger traps. A fix is slated for to take care of this bug tonight.

So are you guys starting to call “class balance mistakes” “bugs” now? Interesting way of putting it…

Let’s see:

It wasn’t announced.
The tooltip doesn’t reflect it.
They clearly stated it was unintentional and intend to fix it TONIGHT.

It’s a bug.

Which means they didnt test it. After that ranger update, I can almost guarantee none at Anet plays Ranger. After the Shortbow “animation fix”, it broke QZ which can be seen in less than 10 seconds of testing. And again with this, just use a trap and BAM! Bug found! Was it That hard?

Plus why is it even broken to begin with? There were no changes made to traps at all so the coding should have been the same.

Rangers everywhere rejoice!

WHY are our underwater skills buffed? That’s the stupidest move possible. They shouldn’t worry about that, worry about our land abilities because we are on land 90% of the time. No one complained about our underwater effectiveness, but they decided to give 5 updates on it…

It’s great that GS got buffed, it’s what i use but this update still doesn’t allow us build diversity like it was planned. Spirits will still be 1 shotted, still can’t move without heavily traited. Anet got so many advice and opinions on what can work and what won’t yet still ignored.

And to add insult to injury to our class,

“Warrior
Dual Shot: This skill’s damage has been increased by 10%.”

ARE you f-ing me? Buff their longbow damage that’s already on par or better than us but do nothing for a supposed ranged class specialist…

Yup, very annoying. Just last night, was taking on a champion solo, got it to 1/2 HP when I walked backward onto a ramp…“INVULNERABLE” pops up then it proceeds to heal back to Full HP. WTF!?

Why Do People Dislike Their Rangers?

I have all 80 classes now. Already begin some new characters of same class to see others quest lines.
Why? It’s simple. I went into this game with the clear intention that 1 of my character will be a ranger-norn like girl on the artworks (Eir). I like the style. “Role”. Amplua. But not the class. The class is awful. It’s the worst. Without exaggeration. After playing other classes I know that find rangers interesting could only ppl which does not play other classes.

And I am sure that you like play ranger, just because you like the idea of playing this girl in leather armor, bow and nature theme. Character. Not class.

That’s good that you have other characters then. I myself have a low guardian and warrior and still found them OP compared to a Ranger.

And no, I don’t role play. I can leave that to other people. I’m a ranger/Bow fan. It will be the first class in play in any game/mmo that has this class regardless of effectiveness. I enjoy the class, love my dumb pets and weapon skills. Plus with that logic, I COULD be a thief, they wear medium and can use a bow. Nature? who cares about that, only nature like skill I use is Healing Spring, lol. But if you want nature, I could be a Thief in medium with a bow as a Sylvari… can’t get anymore closer to that.

Ranger at 60, what feels weak and suggestions

Really depends on how you want to play but I do agree with Sleepy that you choose the worse weapon combination possible for a ranger. Both weapons are meant for CC imo and having 2 CC weapons doesnt help in damage. You need a set for damage and 1 for CC to be effective. I myself use shortbow for damage and greatsword for CC. Spec’ed right, I can use greatsword as dps also but at the moment, I’m using a Knight GS.

Sleepy is also right that you should start off with LB. LB fires too slow to be effective especially if you trait for piercing shot. Use it to whittle down enemies then switch to axe for AoE on mobs as you CC with traps and skill 3 for frost if solo enemy.

Also switch up pets depending on play style and weapon set. I myself use Fern hound for many reasons and River Drake. It fits perfect with my build and weapon set. Fern Hound has 3 abilities that makes my set shine,
1 – Regen F2 skill
2 – Knockdown/Interupt pet attack. It will use it 80% of the time when you swap to it and knockdown, and you’re in QZ with pet swap, more DPS.
3- Fire Aura with Fire combo field. Works well to add DPS/Burning AND even better with my GS’s Swoop combo effect adding 2 Fire Auras into a fight.

River drake is pure DPS and CC on its F2 skill. If you pop Rampage as one .and QZ, insane AoE Burst damage if controlled well.

I do not believe people that say “Ranger is fun”. I think it’s just an attempt to justify the handicap class. Or hypocrisy. Or they just do not compare. Explain me what fun in ranger now?

Ranger is REALY TERRIBLE. The only reason it makes sense to play them – if you like what he is in leather and with a bow.

Your definition of fun =/ my definition of fun so don’t generalize it for everyone.

There’s no argument from me that rangers are bad, in WvW and PVP but in PvE, we do fine. Read my many posts and most of it is complaints and reasons why we suck but at the end of the day, I’m still playing her and will still be my main because I (stressing “I”) have fun with her. When the class gets fixed somewhat in the next patch, maybe I’ll have even MORE fun with her.

And for you to be posting in the Ranger forums stressing your opinion, it can only lead me to one conclusion. If you’re not having fun with your ranger, you should be in another class section raving about how much fun that class is yet you are still here which means 1 thing…You are Still playing your ranger. Why? Why still play it when you aren’t having fun with it?

I only use BL Kits because I got lots from chests and dailies and personal story. Gotta use them because they dont stack in Bank.

And I only use Crude for everything else. Its free (cheap karma amount) and gives me really same chance to get rarer mats. Just the other day I got 2 Ori out of 5 Metal scraps and 4 Goss out of 9 white Light gear so besides more space taken from inventory, its just as effective. Plus the space shouldnt matter much, 12-15 slot bags are cheap and anyone farming should have these bags to hold. I myself only bring 2 stack of Crude along.

Why Do People Dislike Their Rangers?

The thing is I LOVE my ranger. Even with all the faults, I will still play her. IT just saddens me that I have to refer friends away from the class. Just the other day I was looking at the trait chart for Thief, Warrior, Guardian and Mesmer and wow… their minor and major traits work so well together and makes them good, especially a Guardian. Just compare each of them side by side to a ranger and you can the major problem. I am always complaining to my friend about my ranger but I always end off the rant with “But I still love my ranger.” and why? Because I have fun with her. That is most important.

And I just noticed how much the class is lacking in general last night because I noticed my play style. As we all know, all humanoid enemies have the same classes we do, such a a Centaur Hunter, Grawl Hunter, etc. I noticed that when I’m in a fight with them, I strafe and dodge out of all their attacks EXCEPT their ranger counterpart. Anyone notice that? Their ele would cast, I walk out of AoE, I interrupt the warrior’s attack, dodge engi’s shots BUT I just stand there and take hits from the ranger’s bow. Why? Because it’s not going to effect me, I’m only getting hit for about 200 HP damage per arrow by a level 80 Ranger in Frostgorge while everyone else hits me for +1K damage without crit.

Thinking about that, it’s just saddens me more. It’s the ranger profession in general that lacks.

I’m rocking the Enduring Coat, Karma item from Heart Vendor in FireHeart Rise. He’s a Kodan on the left side of the map, where the water/lake is. It looks pretty good on males and awesome on females.

This is my current and almost final build. Im going for a daggers theme, so daggers on coat, daggers on shoulders and soon to get daggers on boots from Whisper’s Boots with a gold/black theme.

It is a problem for all classes but Rangers more so. On my thief on the same zone I would get a Obstructed 1 in 100 shots while on a ranger it would be ~15 in 100 shots. That is a major difference especially when you time your skills well to CC only to waste it.

And this is the problem with Ranger. Pets are calculated into our DPS as a class, that’s why we ourselves do low damage but in PvP and WvWvW, it’s our main complaint because our pets can’t contribute to the damage due to their inability to attack a moving target. I love my pet in PvE when it hold aggro because it can crit for that type of damage, which can be considered our “burst” damage but without aggro (like in Orr) it’s quite annoying.

I myself love setting up a trap, preferably flame trap and then attack from range a mob into the trap. Once trap activates, switch to greatsword and swoop, crazy mob killer and if need to, pet swap for quickness.

Besides improving AI I think the Passive/Attack key should be a button key. Alot of times I have my pet on passive but when I get into battle, it’s a pain to have to move the mouse to click it and worst really, when you are downed, you can’t access that button at all because it disappears.

I only use karma brought crude salvage kits and got enough to make 3 exotics myself. I don’t see the difference between using a better salvage kit, same results. If you really in need of it, salvage blue and green cloth equips also but I’ve been only salvaging whites.

I hardly went into MK and have only done 1 dungeon once, AC story for someone (still at level 23 story for myself) but the way I see it, I think it’s designed for the tokens. Tokens are the exotics you are working for. I myself need to get into CoE parties now because I want the exotic shoulders from it. I really do hope they add more incentives such as soulbind on acquired gear with custom skins that you can’t get anywhere else and increase its drop rate or more frustrations ahead for token farmers.

I hear a lot of bellyaching about Rangers not having any burst. Here is a trick I use for getting an insane amount of burst damage.

Get out your river drake. Use your F2 on an enemy. When the ability starts to cast activate Signet of the Hunt and QZ. Use Rapid Fire while your pet is using it’s lightning ability. Cackle manically as your foe drops dead.

It doesn’t always work and it’s got a long cool down, but when it does work. Whoa Nelly, it’s awesome.

Funny. But will work only at static mob. Impossable for moving targets. And… well… warriors can do more gamage using only 1 ability.

Funny, I do the same BUT im usually yelling at my drake 70% of the time because pets are dumb. Sometimes it’ll fire off 1 shot then run to the enemy. Sometimes the enemy will run past it and it’ll still shoot in the direction it was facing while charging for the attack. Sometimes it will use go on cooldown without being used. And sometimes (the remaining 30%) it’ll actually do what you wanted and aimed right and I’m smiling my butt off because it was sweet.

All that frustration when most class can directly control their burst with 1 button while we have to cross our fingers if the pet is up to task. That’s the main problem with Rangers in this game, our main mechanic that separates us for the other classes is broken.
