I would save for the precursor. In the process of saving (which could take a while), Anet MIGHT release the ability to craft a pre. Its a matter of waiting for which comes first. While waiting and saving, throw in your rare weapons you receive from Mega Boss loot or sell it of course if you dont want to gamble.
As for Silver Doubloons, there’s 2 ways to farm them. You can farm humaniod enemies, bandits/centaurs for Bags within the level 20-30 range. You are looking for Light or Medium Loot bags. Second way is to do jps with a character that’s around level 24-26 since they have a chance to look a chest at their level.
And of course best and efficient way is to farm gold and just outright buy them. Do your some dungeon runs and buy a few each day.
Wait, why can’t I just do JP’s on a level 80?
There are two types of JP’s, there are chest that are ZONE based, and chest that are LEVEL based. Lion’s Arch is considered LEVEL based, so park level 20 characters at the chest and log on them everyday to try to get doubloons. You can use your 80s and go to level 20 zones to try for a chance at doubloons.
This would be true many patches ago but it has changed. Before, many world chests, including jp had 2 loot chances. When a level 80 character loots the chest, the 2 possible outcomes were
- Zone leveled loot : Say in Queensdale, a level 80 would get level 14 greens.
- Character leveled loot : Again, in Queensdale, that same chest and character would get level 76+ loot.
Now, its only 1 outcome, Character leveled loot. A level 80 character will always get the 2nd option along with Emyreal Shards.
I use to loot alot of chests in the open world, and this has been my experience. I dont ever get zone level loot anymore on my 80s when before I would curse the chest giving me zone level loot.
Parking a character at a good jp is pretty good money also, since you will be getting alot of greens/blues so its perfect with the new Magic find Essence system and getting t2/3 crafting mats for when Ascended armor comes out.

Wait, why can’t I just do JP’s on a level 80?
The type of rewards from the chest depend on the character’s level. Silver Doubloons are a fairly low-level drop, so you won’t get them from chests at higher levels.
Correct. Another way to do world boss events for the spawned Chests since the loot is your level and better chances to get it BUT do too many and you’ll level yourself out of range.
Wanze: Its easier for people to say that its impossible and that you are wrong then for them to put some time and effort into looking into the situation.
Pretty much. I also feel that they are also the type of people who make topics like “Sell now or wait?”. If you have to ask in a public forums about advice like that, you wouldn’t be able to see/predict trends and make money off it.
Just like you, I made a bit of money getting to 500, and about to be broke since I want to transmute my ugly Ascended to a nicer skin.

Not glassy enough needs more crit damage.
I’ve calculated it with exotic trinkets, with ascended gear + food its about 114% crit dmg,I think thats plenty.
Here’s what a full ascended berserker set with food/consumables can reach in terms of power/crit chance/crit dmg.
https://dviw3bl0enbyw.cloudfront.net/uploads/forum_attachment/file/104523/gw301.jpg
Is this with ascended bow +25 bloodlust stacks? How much Attack does 25 bloodlust stacks give and u use only power food for 4k attack?
Looking at his buff bar (above his skill 6-0 bar) it shows he has 25 stacks. It has to be power, and since he is maxing, its Superior Sigil giving +250 Power. He is also using a Legendary so yes, with Ascended Stats.
I also prefer LR for the Vigor upon use so you can remove the 5 points in WS to add it to Nature Magic so you can get IV or V depending on what yo want to do. As a Ranged Glass Cannon, you need separation when they get close so LZ works as that, along with a evade and it adds Vigor. Using Protect me is useless IMO without Signet of the Hunt for movement speed to get away or Greatsword’s Swoop. It is just delaying your death by 6 seconds since you wont be able to get away from pursuers. Signet of Stone is useless for a Glass, ESPECIALLY if you dont have the active effect you.
Annnndddd this is why rangers get a bad rep… The fight is suppose to be about teamwork and you are simply ignoring everyone else in the battle to be selfish.
Other than that, yeah, its a good build for Teq. I would prefer using a mix of Soldier and Valkyrie. We dont need too much Toughness, if we are attacking the dragon, we wont get hit much by enemies. The only thing to worry about is the Tidal wave and the poison which will be negated by your high HP from your gear. I run full Valkyrie (Can also mix in Cleric for added healing power) for this fight because I’m using my ranger to defend the turrets. I find this role to be best for the class IMO since Pet’s are insta down when in front of Teq. Spirits, healing spring and pet support are perfect for buffing and protecting turret users. The power and crit damage are for the waves of enemies rushing to the turrets.
Unless you REALLY need to get an ascended weapon asap, get to 450. The only time gated crafting are the 3, and Elder Spirit Residue, Lump of Mithrillium
Elonian Spool. They require the most abundant mats available, Elder wood logs, and Mithril. Long as you have them made, you can craft the T7 materials at ANY time (or buy them) since there’s no time gating on them.
And once you do get to 500, like Mad Rasputin said, its quite cheap since all you waiting for is the time gated Elder Spirit Residue, Lump of Mithrillium and Spool.
(edited by Himei.5379)
It is a issue because it makes it a PvP only weapon. Ever tried using it against golem mk2? You jump straight through the kitten thing and stop attacking it.
That’s because the target is above you. You shouldnt even be attacking it in melee or range for that matter. Only class that should melee it is Warrior with their 100B, the rest should be using the Experimental gun on the side to do maximum damage.
The same thing also happens with the Fire Elemental. You somehow end up losing target then start jumping all over the place.
Even with auto attack off its #1 is still a pain to use, much more so that any other weapon.
It also, unlike all other melee weapons, demands a target, otherwise you just leap right on through the entire battle which is also highly annoying.
I am not really in favour of them changing the sword skills, I just dont see why they cant allow dodging to override #1.
Yeah, this is my only complaint. Sometimes for no reasons or after turning your camera, you lose target and then preceed to jump all over the place trying to pick target it.
It’s not a pain to use, I don’t think. Serpent’s strike—evaded 1000s of boss attacks with that skill. Auto: buffed my pet thousands of times with that ability. Hornet’s sting: evaded many attacks with that. I feel so vulnerable without sword/axe, I really do in PvE…
My worst fear is they turn the sword into something I don’t like over an issue of practice for a profession that is claimed to be “too passive”. Yeah, let’s make it even more passive!!! Woooo lol
Haha, I feel naked without my sword/axe also. I love that combo in PvE. Path of Scars is just TOO GOOD to let go.
@Crescendoll
LOL, that face. 8/10 for it. Love the CM shoulders with the Vigil chest idea. The monochrome look matches well with her pink skin, for that “POP” scary effect.
I recently posted in the “Show off your Ranger” thread but doesnt hurt to repost.
Yeah, i don’t hope they nerf any more content.
It’s something else to whine about a new feature coming out and just a few days before its release they announce it’s going to be in beta and only for a limited amount of players, while they have advertised this new LFG Tool to release with the update 17 september. Players will be coming back for this update, a lot and they can’t use the LFG Tool. Not a very good strategy.Indeed
Why advertise something as a MAJOR inclusion in not only a content update, but a living world update and then set it as limited roll out?!?
Madness
Agreed but they probably couldnt get it to run smooth as they hoped. Even if it was “smoothed” by Anet’s standards, probably will be buggy for the players since we will be using it on a account much higher than Anet can test.
The dungeon “nerf” was only a nerf to people who just ran the same path over and over and over and over. To everybody else, it’s a buff.
How exactly is the token rewards getting lowered by 20 across the board “a buff”? For the Emp Shards?
Sorry but I ran dungeons because I either wanted the armor stats from a particular set or I liked the look of the armor for a character. I did not “farm” for gold, nor am I one of these “zerk or go home” types. I play with anyone and any class regardless. Not everything in this game revolves around the “teh glodz” it can produce. The fact I could change characters and re-run it again with either the same people or a new team wasnt because I wanted more money but because I enjoyed it and the reward armors and weapons were attainable in a relatively timely manner (eg a week of “light” dungeon running).
For me the drop in tokens combined with the “zerk” teams has left me few opportunities to run dungeons outside of guild teams.
My sentiment exactly. I usually go into dungeons for token runs, most dungeon farming I do. CoF 1,1,2,1 once or twice a week with my usual party for my tokens. Heck, most I’ve champ zerg farm was 25 mins in Queensdale because I was with a friend. It’s just not fun to me. I never had an issue with gold, heck I didnt even lose gold crafting from 400-500 and making my first ascended (want second but lack of Empyreal shards killing me).
Now i’m just going around world chests to get Empyreal Shards because it also lets me gather the wood logs/metal ores I need with my low level alt since its good exp to gather instead of farming dungeons for the shards.
Tequatl will likely 1 shot pets (he basically already does).
WvW leagues are starting with Thieves, Engineers, and Rangers in a position where they may as well not even report for duty. Thank god they’re adding bloodlust so roamers can do something productive!
I also wouldn’t expect pets to get that hp buff. Spirits probably would. Not pets.
No, he doesnt 1 shot them BUT they die very fast in that poison field, but so do players. He WILL 1 shot them now with the tidal wave. If its designed where the players will be dead/downed by the tidal wave, no way in hell will our pet survive unless we waste a Active Signet of Stone.
You want to impress your player base who have played a myriad of MMOs and are starting to look towards the next shiny penny coming out? Revamp all boss fights in a patch not ….one.
Read the upcoming patch info, says other bosses will be upgraded, Taco is just being the main focus of patch since he will have the most changes.
Make every pursuit equivalent to the challenge.. If one dungeon path takes an hour and another takes 5.. you should get 5 times the rewards.
This shouldn’t count player skill. The same path can be done in 15 mins by 1 group but 1 hour by another, how does that award the better skilled players? It should be equal or everyone will be taking forever in a dungeon on purpose.
If you are zerging down a champion in 7 seconds with 50 players you should get 1/10 of the loot of doing it with 5; not the opposite.
It is not Anet’s fault. It is the players who have decided to join in as a zerg. The only thing Anet designed to be zerg’ed are the Invasions and Orr. You still have tons of people hunting champs as a solo or small group in other zones because that is their playstyle while others (most farmers) join the zerg.
Fix your kitten game; listen to honest criticism; else you are going to start bleeding people.
I’ve been on two other dead servers; it’s already started.
Try fixing something and people still complain, best job in the world.
I always wanted to buy it and put it in my bank for when I need it for a character’s look but always don’t seem to have the time when it was out in the Gem Shop. Hope it comes back for a limited time somewhere down the future or a new quiver comes out.
It’s just another broken promise of ‘innovation’ from Arena Net.
This game is grindier than the oldest effin’ Korean MMOs.
And the players are too kitten blind to see it.
Or players HAVE PLAYED those Korean MMOs and see this as nothing compared to those.
I do this personally, run to all the WPs and easy poi first. Do al the hearts that are far from a wp or annoying to do. Once you have all wps and most of sp/poi/vista head to another zone and do the same. you will have 85%+ done and then take your time to do a heart or 2 a day.
Anyone gotten to 500 yet before complaining? I just did and made my weapon and realize, “Wait…I can make another ascended at any time I want”. Once at 500, only thing stopping you will be the materials for the Vision crystals. You can buy the tier 500 materials needed to craft your weapon’s piece without time gating yourself to making 1 each day. Second, best way to get Empyreal fragments is to do dungeons WHICH will give you tons of money to pay for the Recipes and the Spiritwood planks and Deldrimor Ingots.
After thinking about this, ANET are freaking genius. I made my 2nd ascended right after I realize this (i had extra to make another Vision Crystal). Since it is also account bound, makes it easier to outfit alts without time gating (long as you have the gold).
Loving my probably final Ranger look. I’m also satisfied with my thief and just made a Engi for the look. Need to take better pics of my Ele, Warrior and Guardi.
Better pics this time, this is my 4th update and probably will be final look unless something nice comes out.
I just want the ice effect on arm to WORK when equipped on offhand. That is the only thing bothering me. I like the improved footfalls and better ice attack effect.
If you get a stat for a playstyle that you don’t already have complementary armor/trinkets for, then that drop is pretty much useless.
That’s why it’s better to get a choice of stats than a choice of weapons. Each profession uses several weapons. So there would be a much higher chance of getting a drop that you can use.
Of course that’s probably why Anet lets you choose the weapons — they know you’re likely to get something you don’t want. They want you to take as long as possible to get your Ascended weapon because in the meantime they don’t have to produce meaningful content for the game.
That’s definitely not true. Anet just wants you to feel the epicness you get while getting your new gear. /s
Also great for trasmutation. As much as I want the Zerk Ascended stats, I dont want the red color SO I will be making another ascended weapon type to transmute that color onto the zerk stats.
Oh and i hope that peeps will continue making acended, its kinda the new end game stuff so i hope that those prices wont drop back to the old prices
But its such a easy item to make. If it wasnt time gated,. it would take 1 day to make and if you are rich, a few hours. When you look at the material breakdowns in a nice chart, you’ll be like “wow, that’s super easy to make”.
You have chosen a great profession to advance. Why? Because huntsman is the only one that can produce the leather thingy currently.
Which is kinda useless atm since it’s only used to make the 2 bows. I COULD be wrong since Rangers are the 2nd most played class buuuttt could be more casual rangers so they wouldnt/might not think about ascended. I actually leveled Huntsman without thinking and am sadden, I actually wanted to do weaponsmith for daggers/swords/spear but no rush to level a 2nd crafting profession for me.
Ascended is sooo easy to make, with the only setback is the time gated materials.
17 exotics and I got 4 Dark matter… thanks anet for the great balance
I’m with you. So far 18 exotics and 7 Dark Matter, not as bad as you but still crap.
So why do you think Anet stated that NOW spirits can be CC’d if they could have been earlier?
They weren’t being KD, Launched or KB, they were still being interrupted by those 3 effects but they were not taken out of the scene for as long as those effects (all very powerful CCs) should have, IE Nature Spirit is casting, you Launch it with say, Personal Battering Ram, the spirit stops his cast and returns to following ranger instead of being sent skipping across the ground and laying there for 2 or 3 seconds.
Stuns and Dazes though did keep the full effect IE a 2s stun took that spirit out of the fight for 2 seconds, they even stated it was a bug fix, which i figured would happen anyway.
You can also see it in PvE where you cast the skill and it never goes off, due to them being CC’ed.
The one problem Rangers have is our 3rd party skill activations. Our pet’s F2 takes forever to cast, and our spirit’s skill takes forever with that animation. Decrease them and we become even better.
Note: After crunching the numbers, I agree the change to spirits is a slight buff overall. If your spirits were living their full duration it’s a nerf, but if they were dying frequently it’s a buff. So on balance it’s a slight buff. It sucks for me because I’d gotten rather proficient at tucking spirits away around corners, behind objects, and on different levels to make sure they survived their full 60 sec. Now my spirit uptime will be reduced, while the unskilled “plop the spirit down anywhere” playstyle will have their spirit uptime increased to match or nearly match mine.
Thank you for taking your time to think the new changes. This change was a buff. The moment I read the spirit changes, the first thought into my mind was “Oh, spirits got buffed” because I know the class pretty well (1500+ hours with 2 legendaries). Now that the math is out, hopefully it can make people see it also. This is a good change for spirit builds for wvw and pvp imo.
L2P
Posers, a true ranger doesnt cry when there is a nerf, you merely embraced the nerf, we were born for the sole purpose of being needed. This is nothing but existence!
Pretty much, L2P. I actually see this patch as a buff to spirits.
If you are running spirits in dungeons, its pretty great. First, the buff effects stays with you even when it dies, if it activated so you dont lose the buffs anyways, assuming it’s position right, it wont die. You really shouldnt be having the spirit trait for it to move in a dungeon anyways. Most trash mobs and Boss fight is in a contained area and since the game favors High and Fast DPS, it would larely become useless as you move on to the next section of the dungeon anyways.
The CD change and reduction is awesome. If anyone used spirits, you would know that the position it spawns at is random around your character so sometimes its hard to get exact perfect position. the new system allows us to summon a spirit again in 25s after it’s death instead of a full 50s+ when it dies the moment its summoned. This allows us to actually be forgiven for messing up the position and allow us to have the spirit up more often. It is also great for WvW, since AoE will insta kill it, forcing us to wait on the longer CD.
The added ability of being CC’ed allows it to be knocked out/pushed back out from AoE, especially in WvW or inside a dungeon. The question remains if it will still give the buff when CC’ed, which wouldnt matter if we already received the buff, then it gets CC’ed.
Spirit of Nature CD reduction, awesome, the CD on it was too long for such a crappy ELite (in most circumstances) so any buff helps for it.
People complaining about free items that ANet decided to do when they didn’t have to!? Say it ain’t so…
You people are ridiculous.
Exactly my thoughts. They dont have to give us ANYTHING! Just because they did so in GW1, doesnt mean it has to be the same for GW2 since its a whole different game, reasons why some things from part 1 didnt make it to part 2. Accept your gifts, along with all the other easy items gained from living story and keep playing.
And we don’t have to give them money either. Bottom line is that there are expectations and some of them set by Anet themselves. You can’t just say then that people just should accept everything someone throws at you.
Every time a company gives you something for free, I don’t care how big the letters are to showcase it as FREE, it’s part of an experience that you have paid for. That doesn’t have the same feeling to me.
The fact that this topic exploded here just shows how important these little things are. Now, you may be right in saying that little things shouldn’t matter that much, but perhaps there is more than entitlement going on here. Perhaps people are focusing on each little thing because they already are dissatisfied customers to some degree.
Just like stress, small things get you over that edge, if you already have a stress level close to but just under that edge. The same goes for dissatisfaction I’d say.
There may be a lot of people who already have a number of question marks about this game and then this small thing is just the thing that tips them over the edge.
Honestly, it’s a realistic possibility.
That this is where the gamer’s mentality is headed, into a “privileged” mindset. Just look at the negative response on the Heroic Edition. Complaining about the “free” stuff and how they should have brought it now. It’s like they never brought a game before, if they ever did, price drops are a common thing and “Game of the Year” editions nowadays. Does the Heroic edition come with your hard earn Shatterer wings, Karka shell backpiece, etc? No, because anyone buying it now would miss out on those exclusive skins.
And yes, we don’t have to give them money, I am sure over 50% of these complaining players haven’t brought a single gem card yet they complain over everything not given to them. What I really appreciate was ANET giving the GEM card buyers (people who actually supported the company after initial purchase of game) thank you gifts. To me, its those “little” things that matter to me. Does it suck for the players who can’t afford to buy gems? Yes, which is why they give free stuff time to time for all, such as WXP boosters I got recently, Polla doll (crappy, lol), along with other stuff I can’t remember.
Also got to understand the reason for living stories, to extend the end game for many while handing out items to earn that many new players will miss out on.

Ya, himei, I came out with this build like a month before Brazil made the 20/25/0/25/0 build video. I think they’re really close in effectiveness-brazil’s is slight more vitality, slightly less vulnerability. I like to think this post inspired Guang and Brazil’s theory-crafting but I don’t think that’s the case.
Been using that build for a long time for dungeons, it also allows me to switch to Valkyrie gear if my PUG party isnt too great so the extra Vit helps me survive.
Need help on getting a good pve build for LB/GS or SB/GS… been trying to find a good build for this combo and time and time again I find myself resetting due to lack of survivability or decent damage. Please help!
You want general roaming pve or dungeon pve?
Roaming PvE/WvW build to be exact… already have a dungeon build I’m working on.. just need one for roaming that I can use in PvE and WvW.
Here’s a roaming LB/Axe/WH PvE build, if running in WvW, grab another person.
http://intothemists.com/guides/649-roaming_spirit
Can swap Axe/WH for GS if want but kiting mobs with active Frost Spirit with axe is awesome.

I would personally go into this build for Dungeon/High level Fractals
It’s a game about max dps in dungeons and knowing the battles in FoTM. In high level fractals, you pretty much will go down in 1 hit 90% of the time so using anything besides Scholar runes doesnt matter unless your role is support/anchor.
This build will maximize your damage potential and give good amount of HP to survive some conditions. I say we actually have the most raw dps potential over all classes in this game. WS Grandmaster minor trait is Peak Strength, it’s our own personal Scholar rune.
Damage potential comes from :
- +10% from Scholar Runes at +90% HP
- +10% from Frost spirit
- +10% from Steady Focus trait
- +10% from Hunter’s Tactic Grandmaster minor trait
- +5% from Bountiful Hunter minor trait
- +5% from Sigil of Force or +10% from Sigil of Night
All this while your pet gain might stacks from sword auto, your crits, and the boons you receive.
Final stats WITHOUT food/oils is
HP – 18222
Attack 3358 Power 2408
Critical Hit 53% + 7% from Spotter Critical Damage 103%
Boon Duration 25%
(edited by Himei.5379)
Ok, I’ve done some playtesting and additional theorycrafting. I’ve really starting to think this is a great starting point in dungeons. Try spirits with the vigorous spirit trait, they won’t let you down.
I’m pretty excited about this build overall. The damage is pretty intense and those spirits are survivors. I don’t go into dungeons without them now.Just be careful because as far as I know they do not stack so you only need one instance of every spirit (assuming you have two rangers in your team).
Untraited and traited spirits do stack. Try it out, massive fun and damage increase.
Agreed. They were pretty uninspiring except a few.
Thanking people 3 times in a row is enough to get suppressed for over 10 minutes. They need to improve the suppression filter.
Oh dear god that just sounds stupid…
Yeah, it came up for me last night twice. I’m trying to get people and other commanders spread out for the invsion and BAM! I just got suppressed, so for the next 30 mins, I cant map/say chat…
The design is absolutely at fault. The entire combat system of this game, from the ground up, emphasizes that dodging and blocking are, and will always be, far more important than toughness and healing. Positioning and movement are also extremely important. Despite this, pets have no dodging or blocking, their positioning is abysmal (hell, even GW1 AI, for all its faults, knew how to get out of AoE fields!), and they can’t hit moving targets. How can you possibly deny any of this with a straight face? And how can you muster the audacity to call someone else stupid when your grammar isn’t worthy of a sixth grader’s writing assignment?
The design isnt wrong, the implementation is. Take a look at the ranger from release-4 months to now, present. We had many changes to improve pet AI and of course many nerfs such as pet’s F2 cooldown staying on swap instead of reset. We are getting there but very viable atm.
I still believe the game was incomplete at launch, I’d say about 70% complete but NCSoft probably wanted the game out so it was released. You can tell from the quality of life stuff, things that are in other games, common sense things were not in at release.
Once again, Rangers are in a good spot. We can dps well with or without pet. We can support well with spirits. We can tank/bunker well with traps and such. Stop trying to only play meta and experiment, quite fun. For example, I was using greatsword in PVE waaayyy before it became cool due to the buffs. Then I started using sword waaayyy before Brazil made it cool and is the current meta. Right now I’m just fooling around with LB and possible builds for it and its been a blast with the recent changes to it.
(edited by Himei.5379)
Rangers are in a fine state, been saying this for 2 months now. If they did not nerf the pet damage a few patches ago, we would be in a even better state. Anyone who doesnt see this are stuck on their own definition of a “ranger” and not Anet’s definition and class structure.
My new Ranger look with matching pet.
Sorry I havn’t played for awhile, what helmet is this?
I made this build for my guildies who want to start learning how to dps with sword. It is great survivability along with good dps while good supporting damage from pet.
I like this build better but there is one little tiny little thing i would change again.
Eagle Eye for Signet mastery.
You run 3 signet and they are your burst and survival, those are the most important!
The 5% damage is not really noticeable and the extra range is only useful in pve and when helping zerg from the walls and such.
If you fire on someone at 1500 range you will likely miss. By the time the arrow travel to the target, if the move one feet youll miss. Even at 1200 range youll often see misses.
So if you dont really intend to do wall defense or try to stay at max range on events, most of the time, 1200 range is more then enough.
Agreed with Chicken. If you are using 3 signets, (which I don’t really recommend) then they are your everything. Eagle eye is useless since it’ll be hard to land a hit on someone decently skilled from that range, especially if it’s a 1v1 fight. The max endurance trait is useless in WvW also unless defending. You will be dodging a good amount, even if your armor is high, still need to dodge.
RaO is good elite for stability but you can substitute it for Signet of the Wild for passive regen or the active boost to attack. Entangle is good if you are using longbow, especially now that they added Stealth. Stealth then use Entangle, they wont know what hit them, then continue to Barrage or Rapid Fire.
They are already near their lowest point. They are priced much higher months ago and only started to drop when Orr temple chests contained chance for them. Could it possibly get lower with next patch? Yes if the champion’s chest is any good.
I finally decided to equip it last night and quite annoyed with it. The effects are so buggy. 40% of the time I couldnt get the aura to work, had to weapon swap multiple times.

Sword DPS Dung/WvW build.
It works well in a perfect party composition or a a steady party. You gotta learn how use Sword’s evades well and deal with the “Root”.
Shameless plug, I JUST finish my new ranger guide, check it out. It’s basically the same concept but allows room for error and random PUG parties.
Works well in a small roaming/havok WvW party also.
