I just seen this.

Looks like the overflows for dragons is going away.
I don’t do much PvP (except in WvW, still learning the in and outs there) but I play only staff. I do a lot of dungeon runs with my guild and I solo a lot in Orr. I run with a signet build to help more when soloing. This seems to really help keep my alive with the blinding and chill. Just requires a lot of moving and dodging on the tougher enemies. I also use the great elemental as my elite and normally send out the Earth to tank for me or use the fire elemental for higher DPS on mobs that aren’t as tough.
I think using staff just has a higher learning curve to figure out what you can do and do well.
Paigey
That is a really good idea. My friend and me have our characters that we play only with each other, same race so story line goes together. We have other characters we play and play with them sometimes but we level these two together and have since the beginning of the game. It was a lot of fun doing it and we really enjoy seeing the game that way. I hope you enjoy it also. I am on a NA server or I would join up with you to do it.
I do agree with hearing the “As long as we are unified” bit. I think they need some better writers to where after some point we realize that yeah we need to be united but this is some problems we face in doing it instead of saying that all the time.
I hope the bigger content that comes in the future learns from this and it is designed to keep us in it so we dont’ start skipping video’s because they say the same thing just from a different person. lol
I agree GW1 was too simplistic, but it still drives you to be the hero, which requires being pushed into certain moral stances. It is also a little more obivious in GW2, but then again my views on moral stances may differ from yours so we would end up going on for days about that also.
You could also be right about the darker elements. I see some but they aren’t overly dark. This is again probably a difference in opinion and we could go on and on about it.
If the Charr weren’t a big part of the story (playable race) The amount of tech that is shown would probably be less. It is just like when we played proph, we didn’t hear about the Asura or Norn. They weren’t part of our story at the time and weren’t important. So I could see the tech being less known if the Charr weren’t a big part because it would be less important to our story.
Obsidian
Reading your questions above I will give my opinion on them.
_If we do, should we severely diminish the pre-existing human cultural distinctions in Tyria? _ This question right here has been discussed in another thread in the General Discusssion area. This is not ANET intent here. NCSOFT is the reasont he Canthan themed section was taken out of DR at the last minute. There was no time to make changes to it. Also, Cantha and Elona will make an appearance later on down the line. I think ANET team will make the changes required to bring them back.
_Do we really want to introduce more modern technology into the game? _ Charr never liked magic. We have known that. So why would it not make since for a race that doesn’t used magic much, to not move along with tech. They also learned a lot from the drawves as was stated above. Well drawven ruins.
_Should we downplay the significance of the gods because the plot actually allows for it? _ If you look at it, the gods were already on the way out when EotN came out. They seen how things happened when they helped to much. Also the dragons consume magic, and with the gods being as powerful as they are, the dragons would target them if they did come back to the world in some sense and this would put all the races in even more danger then they already are.
_Should we eliminate inherent conflict themes for the sake of a new one that has no historical context? _ Within any history, there are stories where two groups who didn’t get along or had bad politics with each other unite to fight a greater threat. They would have never united if the threat hadn’t presented itself. We this is GW1. Asacalon and Kryta didn’t get along at all, and we know they put those differences aside to help against the Charr.
Should we downplay darker elements of the game to bring in a younger audience? Not sure on this one. It seems to me that GW1 and GW2 each share about the same in dark elements. Don’t know what you are talking about here.
_ Should we subtly push the players into a specific over-arching moral code? _ Now this one makes no sense. All games push players a certain way. It is the hero aspect of the game. Not many games give you the choice to be bad or be good. GW1 did the same thing. This thread has been talking about changes made from GW1 to GW2. Nothing on this changed at all, this is the same as GW1.
Actually what he says makes more sense then whay you say Obsidian. Since the three GW1 games are stand alones, the lore from Prophcies gets changed in Nightfall. Same principle here, the lore from GW1 gets changed in GW2. It is all based on having more information, learning more as new things come out. It is the same as what I stated above.
We learned more information in Nightfall that changed the thinking we got from prophcies. How are you having trouble understanding the concept. It is the same thing. How many of us have to explain the concept and give you examples before you either give up trying to force your point or see where we are coming from.
I really like the idea of Guild Towns. I guild purchases a hall which is at the center of an instanced map. Then members of the Guild are allowed to purchase house that create a town around the Guild Hall. This would allow the guilds to group up together and see each others houses if they have the permissions.
Also have instanced neighborhoods that would allow players not in a guild or just wanting to have their house away from the guild area to do it. No one gets left out. Now the the guild areas could be used for GvG stuff and knocks out three things with one stone: Guild Halls, Player Housing, GvG
I will have to say I really like your idea. But the idea of them being on the map won’t work with GW2 in my opinion. I think a really good idea is to have the home instances be used for housing neighborhoods. This would allow multiple players in each neighborhood and would also help with the overall amount of players on each server. You could have neighborhoods in all the major cities and even do Guild Hall neighborhoods or in the same one.
But housing will need to be attached to the main cities I would think for ease of use and development and just create neighborhoods similar to LOTRO did to help with the number of players.
I never said it “has” to make some old info false. I am just saying in this case it did. Not everything we learned for GW1 has changed. We just learned some things humans thought were wrong and with the new information we know what they are.
Plus you are making an assumption that a lot of ANET people left. I have never really seen that any where before. Plus all the lore that was used in GW1 and the information that wasn’t used would be documented so when time came for new lore or expansions to existing lore they could review it and make decision where to go. The decision was made to add new information obtainable by the PC that proved that some aspects of GW1 human history was wrong and we now know the difference.
I am not a RP’er in the since that you are stateing. I don’t go around acting or talking like I am that character. But I view the world of Tyria through his eyes and learn the lore through them also.
But a game world is a living place, not static, and always has room to grow or change. That is what the writers did here, they grew and changed things to continue the story of Tyria. Most of what changed can be explained in how I was talking earlier about having more information.
But I can tell that my opinion on it and yours won’t match up. But this is how I see the world of Tyria and the information we have on it.
Ele is my main and I haven’t played anything but staff with him after learning all the weapon skills. The main thing with playing staff is dodging and making sure not to get hit at low levels. Also if you get a tough mob make sure you are cycling through the attunements and using the crowd control right before a dodge to allow you some extra damage on the mob. I played in fire most of the time using water and earth on the tougher ones.
I think a died a little bit more then I did on my ranger, but not a lot. It just takes a little time and practice on learning how to use the different skills and when to dodge with the skills.
When I play, I am my character. I am looking at this from the PC. If I look at it outside, then all the GW1 campaigns don’t make sense, they don’t line up right. Nothing in GW2 makes sense either.
But that isn’t how we are supposed to look at it. When looking at the lore of a game, you are supposed to be looking at it from the point of view of the PC. That is why you make these characters, to play as them. That is the purpose of an RPG. Your point of view is right when you just look at them from the outside looking in, but that isn’t the way they were designed to be looked at.
Retcon is what the writers use to describe a change from the original telling, but in game it is a change based off of new information being presented to the PC, just like how I used my example above. You are trying to make more out of this then there needs to be. All lore should be viewed from the PC perspective not ours here in RL.
After reading this discussion, I don’t see how the lore of GW2 doesn’t fall in line with GW1. The human history part of that is human history. They haven’t been in Tyria (world) as long as some other races. They wouldn’t know the bloodstone was created before the gods used it and broke it. So their history reflects this, and their belief up until new information came out that this is how it was.
A RL example would be dinosaurs. Growing up everyones belief was they had skin like snakes and lizards. But as new information was found, we found some of them had feathers.
In GW2 we have a lot more information then we did in GW1. The new races showing up, Asuran from underground, the Kodan from way up north, and many others have been giving us new information and it changes the ways human look at the world around them.
In my opinion, I think the lore in GW2 falls in line with GW1, we are just learning new things that wasn’t available to us previously.
Whether or not they are having trouble meeting deadlines isn’t important. What is important is they are trying. We get something every month. Whether it is big or small isn’t the point. We are getting the WvW stuff this month, yes they said it was going to be Feb, but they realized it wasn’t ready and pushed it back. There was still a content update and some fixes.
If they have to push something back because it isn’t ready then that is fine with me. Pushing content out every month has gotten to be labor intensive, so if something doesn’t make the deadline then it is fine if it comes in the next one. I am just really happy with how they are trying to get stuff out to us the way they do.
That idea is kinda cool. GW1 had Guild vs Guild battles that were fought in the guilds halls the the guilds. I think this is something they will add to GW2 later on down the line when they finally get around to adding guild halls. But a yearly Guild Olympics would be really cool to do. Have each event last for like 3 or 4 days to give everyone a chance to do it and then post points to each guild. I like it. Good Idea
I have to agree with both CassieGold and TheBluel. On my first toon I decided to to the completionist way of playing. But I did hit every node I could find while doing it. The amount of fine materials is lower this way. I used the weapon and armors I picked up along the way. I also did Chef and Artificer on this toon. Chef levels pretty well because of the shear number of recipes he has. Now on my alts I have taken a different path where I am playing them for the fun on it. I also have mats left over from when my first toon played through. This has allowed me to craft my own weapons and armors and have a lot of fun doing it. I have three alts which each one covers the remaining 6 crafting professions. I actually had enough mats from my first toon to take Jewelry from 0 to 400 in one setting without having to get anything else. So I am able to craft jewelry for any level of toon and My other professions are moving up as my characters do as they get more materials. So I should finish off all the crafting professions around the same time. So I think it is more a matter of play style as stated above if you can craft while leveling to keep your character in stuff.
There is another NPC that needs to leave when the other do, SHe is usually dead and needs to be revived and she will leave also. I am remember this was talked about on another thread previous. But three NPC’s need to leave for the event to trigger.
NPCs Bill Kinsey, Hekja Ravensbeak, and Lionscout Jenny. I can’t remember where Jenny is exactly but she is out of the way and people miss her sometimes.

There is already a thread on this.
Lets try to keep it all in one thread that way ANET really sees we want them to get to Cantha sooner then later.
Why can’t Ele’s have a second weapon set on the Hero screen that is not linked to a button. That way when we are out of combat we could just hit H and go there and select the second set with one click. It is more of ease of use then anything else plus that would free our inventory for other things.
I may not be understanding this totally. You are saying bots went out and farmed for gold and then bought gems to drive the price for gems up.
May I ask why they would do this. It doesn’t make sense to me. First off, the bots were farming to get gold they could turn around and sell it for RL money. Now if I was a gold seller I would want the cost for gems to go up so more people would use me, but at what cost and time frame.
It would make more sense that they would just sell the gold they got and not worry about the cost of gems. I don’t even see this as a possible idea. I have seen gems prices spike (when something new comes) and I have seen them drop. I have also watch the inflation which has been a steady rate. That is very possible as players earn more gold through play, which in turn they buy some gems. If the bots did as much damage as you are thinking the price of gems would be 3 to 10 more gold then they are now.
I agree with this. When doing dungeons with my guild, if we decide to share a potion or food with the rest of the group we have to send two messages then wait to be able to send the others. I think this needs to be looked at and something changed.
In my previous post I said I think we will get Elona and Cantha. But the first expansion is going to open up the rest of the current map and fight at least Jormag or Krak. (Could be the first two expansion) After that I think we will go to Elona first. Now this could be in a living story where we have to take on Pawla Joko (need spelling checked). Which I think would make a cool living story since it would be weird to have an expansion that fights him and not another dragon. I think the last expansion will be going to Cantha and trying to get their help in fighting the DSD.
Now I do think we will get more races to play later on, but the professions will be the one thing that may not change. Currently I think the only profession that could be added would be the ritualist. The reason for this, is they use a different type of magic then the other profession and this could be added to the game, but the other profession would be hard to add since the ones we have currently cover everything. ( I really want the dervish back) But skins and new traits I see being added with time.
@Tiger,
Hey I found this in another forum.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/account/No-guild-leader/first#post1571625
I think this is a good sign they stuff will be coming in the future to help you.
I am in 2 guilds. (Technically 3 if you count the one I started) I started a guild at the beginning of the game got up to about 15 players and then it slowly died. I kept the guild since I had put my time in getting some of the upgrades and everything. I then joined a larger guild which I represent 90% of the time. They are always doing things and I have a lot of fun, but they don’t require representing 100%. Now I have joined another. I found my GW1 guild and all the people I used to play with. They also don’t require 100% representation so it is nice to be able to play with my new friends and my old friends.
I can see some guilds that require 100% representation. I can see this for the wvw guilds and even some that do the orr stuff so they can get everybody together to accomplish this. It is anyones choice on which guild they play. If you are in a guild that requires 100%, and you don’t like it find another guild. If you want to be with those players then accept the rules of that guild and enjoy yourself there. The choices are so easy.
Now for the small guilds. I know it takes longer to get upgrades, (I learned that when I was running a small guild) but if you really want them, you can ask the players to donate some coin and buy the influence to build the upgrades. I think this is one reason guilds have the option of buying influence is to help the smaller guilds kinda keep up with the larger ones. I have used this on my 2 person guild just to be able to keep the upgrades going to it is maxed out (just in case i decide to recruit and play there again in the future)
They’re going to make one big mega expansion and be done with it.
I highly doubt that will happen. This first and possibly second expasion will finish the current map we have. We still have a lot of areas to open up. (Just my opinion, haven’t heard anything from the devs on this one.) After the crystal desert is opened up, or even when it is opened up, I think we will get Elona. It makes sense to do it that way since we have more information about it then Cantha. I think the final expension (Which would be 4 or 5) will be when Cantha will be opened up and we deal with the DSD and other things. Just my opinion on it.
Edit: After posting this I seen Inculpatus cedo’s post that I was looking for. Guess I don’t need to look for it when I get home. Thanks Inculpatus!!!!
I have seen it go both ways. Some of the DAoC expansions were cheaper then the original box price.(not alot cheaper but cheaper) and then I have seen some of them be just as much. Some of the DAoC expansions had close to the same amount of content that the original had. I think it depends. Some will and some won’t, I think we will just have to wait and see what they do here.
I didn’t use to watch the video’s. So it is in text somewhere. I will be able to do more of a search when I get home. I have a habit of saving articles that I like or want to share with my friends, so I have almost every article I read about GW2 still saved in my favorites.
@Beorn and @schizandra,
I also remember pre-launch that it would be expansions and not campaigns. Also the Canthan Expansion was planned (The reason Diviety Reach had a Canthan district) but was dropped do to NCSOFT saying something before release ( the reason we have the Great Collapse). I will also look for the information to post on here about the expansion comment.
Rytz,
I think you are confusing your Support account and your Forums account. Your forums account is the same as your game account. If you are banned you are also banned for the forums. But your support account is a different account that you for filing reports as Gaile stated. I have a different account for support. I think a lot of people are getting these two confused. I know this is a number of days after the fact on those post above but thought I should put this out there.
We should add this to the other post about Last Online Date. That way all the Guild stuff is in one place and we can keep it on the first page instead of trying to keep multiple post on the first page. I will go add this to my post on that page so everything is in one place.
Well we need to keep this thread on the first page so more people can post on it. Maybe even change the topic a little bit to include the other Guild features everyone wants i.e. Guild Calendars, Guild Mail, etc. etc. That way we can get more post and hopefully keep in on the front page so ANET see if like the others ones that have been pushed back. The longer it stay in focus on the front page the better.
Edit: Ok, some more ideas we should include in this topic about Guilds, Guild Capes and Alliances between Guilds. Everyone talk about it here.

@Lutinz
Cool thanks. I have yet to finish my personal story (got side tracked doing other things), which could be why I didn’t realize that. If Zhaitan can do it, I would think the others have a way to do it also. Which would make Primordus the dumbest of all the ED’s like Konig said. LOL
@Konig
Where did we learn about them “learning from those they corrupt”. I don’t remember reading that any where. I don’t see how they absorb the intelligence of the creatures they corrupt. They don’t seem to physical touch the creature, more of their essence that is used to corrupt.
Not trying to say your wrong, I just don’t remember seeing that any where.
Hey guys, just posting here to bump this back up to the first page so it doesn’t die like the other posts about this.
ANET needs to get this in game with the next update. Shouldn’t be to hard, they already have a model for it in GW1.
I am getting the same thing. Thought it was on my end at first until I was able to bring the forums up. ANET can we get a time frame on this getting fixed, or is it just overload and have to wait our turn. I got 21MB downloaded before it stopped.
Agreed, I hit every node I see on my characters. My first character I did cooking and artificer. The cooking seemed to level quicker and I got to 400 on it realatively easy. But I also banked a lot of crafting mats and I have started leveling up my alts in crafting as I am playing them. This is also allowing me to stock up on mats again so when I start my next alt and pick their crafts I already have a lot of the mats I need. So far it is working out really well and I usually sell or salvage everything they make. If I can get a decent price for something I sell it other wise I just salvage it to put the mats back in the bank.
The xp earned off of crafting is just a bonus.
I have yet to run out of butter. I bought a lot of it when the game first started before they took it away from the Master Chefs. But it drops often enought that I add 15 to 20 a day from playing usually (that is an average, some days I may on get one and other days I deposit 40, usually on a weekend). But I get a lot of bandits in Queensland when I am playing my alts.
I personally don’t think dueling is a gamebreaker. It is something that would add some depth into learning your class better for when you do sPvP and WvW. I think it needs to be done in some type of arena. But open world duels would be fine too, except for the annoying people who use the map chat and whispers to harass everyone that walks by. I think this feature will be implemented and don’t think balance issue will be that bad. It will be another area they can use the numbers from to help balance all classes. It may be bad at first but should help them in the future. I think a lot of the features we want will be added. Just remember the game is only 6 months old. Lots of MMO’s didn’t have the feature they do today. Just give it time and we should see what all ANET has for us in the future.
That I don’t know. I think it is like a lot of other games that run their course. The one saving grace about GW is that the way it was designed you really didn’t have servers you played on like here. Now I know there are servers. So I think it would be easy for them to keep the server one for a long time. They may be able to keep it going the life of GW2. But once the time is up and they shut it down, we will lose everything that is my guess.
I think they will at some point, but I bet that will be years down the road. Nothing anytime soon.
I play staff all the time, but when starting the dungeons I did a little changing because of the enviroment. But all in all I found the staff, at least for me, to be the most effective in the dungeons. I have a 30-0-0-20-20 Build I use with it. It helps keep the DPS up and then just make sure I dodge enough to stay out of the line of fire.
I go back about once a week if I can. I am still working on titles there and finishing out the hall of monuments if I can. I want all the mini-pets that you can get from that in GW2.
The shadow behemoth isn’t being farmed by level 80s though. I think this should stay on our list for now. It was broken for a while and when I go there, there isn’t a lot of lvl 80s around.
I will continue to do this on my 80 and see if I can get some more players there with me when it comes up.
The very fact that ArenaNet explained away their disappearance to such a minor degree shows that it’s not just a simple “forgetting” or “ignoring.”
I totally agree with this. I personally think some of the other creatures that haven’t made an appearance in GW2 will show up somewhere else in the game, or have something written about them to explain what might have happened.
Gargoyles have stuff written about them so they either moved (went under ground or to another area that we don’t have access to yet) or they died off. Since they are associated with Grenth and the underworld, Grenth could have recalled them ( just a guess here, not sure the the lore backs it though)
But the other creatures (dinosaurs, hydras, behemoths) could have either went extinct or migrated to somewhere safer with the rise of the dragons. So I think as more content is added we will find more out about the different creatures and give us a better idea about the why and how.
monk […] making a glorious comeback (the general feeling is that monk class is a must)
However, Monk will never ever happen. Why? Because Guardians were made to replace monks, and the game doesn’t support the concept of a dedicated healer. Dervish is unlikely to return due to lore reasons as well (dervishes, by nature, are followers of the gods – Guardians are the closest thing you’ll get, via being magic powered by faith; you’ll never see a charr dervish).
I totally agree with this. Guardians fill the role of a smiting monk, using faith as the means to their magic. There could be a chance for the monk to return but I highly doubt it. Dark Age of Camelot had the Monk, Paladin (which is really like a guardian) and they had a Ministal. But in that case the monk was a dedicated healer and the smite build was nerfed so it wasn’t very useable.
As for Dervish’s, I don’t think they will make a return either but they would have a greater chance in my opinion then the monk. I think in the 250 years since GW1 the dervish would have had to change some for it to be able to come back and they would have to have the lore in place before hand for that to happen, otherwise it will never make it back as things stand now.
Another thing I thought of also, We don’t really know if the “dragons” are actually dragons or some other type of magic balance. From what I read about the history of magic in Tyria, it has always been here in some form. That is how the bloodstone was created or why, and also when the god gave humans the ability to use magic, I don’t think he gave them magic itself.
Knowing this, plus not knowing the true age of Tyria or the ‘dragons’ makes me think they came about to balance the amount of magic in the world, so this makes sense in how they awake and then go back to sleep.
I am not fully entuned with all the lore of the game. But the dragons don’t seem to as being the 6 gods. Currently we don’t know the age of the dragons. They seem to have been here a really long time. We kinda know when the 6 gods came to Tyria and it was either right at the end of the ED last awakening or right after it. Also it can be assumed that magic is some natural part of Tyria (planet) as we can see from some of the history. This would make the ED’s being more a part of the planet then beiing the 6 gods. If magic is part of the natural world then the ED’s might be the way to balance it out since they eat magic. I personally don’t think the 6 gods and the ED have any relationship other then what we try to give them.
I have a way at looking at it. In the real world things don’t change difficulty very much over an area, lets say your home state is your beginner zone and going to other state should raise the difficulty. No that is just stupid. I really like what they did here. It makes where ever you are about the same difficulty (matter of speaking, not totaly true). This makes any zone playable and still fun to be in. In other mmo’s I played going back to the beginner zones wasn’t fun, it was boring no challenge at all. So for some of the player base ( people like me) this is a lot of fun.
I am currently leveling some of my alts. This allows me to be in the low level areas. When I see the shadow behemoth chain start I bring my lvl 80 over so I get the chest with drops for am 80. I have currently done the Shadow Behemoth 4 times now this week. I will continue to do this every time I know he is up to help with the search.
