I would have guessed there are about 1000 concurrent players but how could that be possible if there are only 500 people on the planet?

Oh boy, what a well thought out thread. I bet you think you are perhaps the first person to come up with this “idea” too. Since all vets have played PvP long enough to get many tomes, I am positive your video will come in very handy in showing them how to use it to level up instead of complaining about the recent changes. Turning off the High Res Textures didn’t do anything for me, and I’ve messed around with all of the options with no luck. ISP says nothing is wrong and all the tests I’ve run show everything is fine on my end. It’s so bad right now that my dude doesn’t even feel motivated to stomp anyone. He just stands there over a dude that’s bleeding out as everyone warps around him and tries to figure out why none of his skills are going off.

If we’re going to start making complaints like this then I"m just gonna throw out there that the new font on the launcher is obnoxious, giant, pay to win, click to play, and all sorts of other clearly derogatory things.

WvW and PvP is currently unplayable for me. PvE is a bit random with the lag, sometimes I do not have any lag and sometimes I get a quick lag spike for a few seconds. My ISP says everything is normal and all tests I’ve run have shown me that it’s not a problem on my end. I simply just stare at people in PvP and WvW as everyone warps around while I try to activate any skill that will refuse to go off.

Yes, several of my friends and I are currently experiencing severe lag spikes (especially in PvP and WvW even if there is no action going on) since the patch. You should post in this thread:

It doesn’t mean that some form of it won’t eventually find its way here but it’s also possible it really doesn’t make it here.

That’s still too early. Top PvP players (veterans) couldn’t handle swimming and it resulted in an entire map getting removed.

That wasn’t the actual reason, but it’s still funny to think of it that way.

It’s a bug. It shows me that I have several weapons from every weapon set even though I do not.

They will not lose money. The metrics have told them that these changes are highly desired. Working as intended.

You should scroll up and read my previous post on why your kind of thinking is flawed. That said, there are plenty of ways Anet could implement an optional tutorial for motivated vets without making it part of the new player experience. It could even be something as simple as a mini game (sort of like the shooting range contest that doesn’t work in Divinity’s Reach) where the player is tasked to perform certain objectives that would translate well with advanced group work (ie: positioning, blasting fields, dodging, managing cool downs, positives/negatives of certain types of builds, gear, and traits, etc).

I approve of these changes as we will eventually have an end to the brain dead and “press 1 to get loot”/“only wear Zerker” players we see plaguing the game. I have enough lv 20 scrolls to bypass most of the tutorial stuff now added to the game for three brand new characters.

I just hope it gets even better for new players and the game teaches them how to dodge properly use conditions/condition removal/healing skills and combo finishers and fields.

I’m equally as sure that many vets don’t feel the same way as you do either. Don’t take this the wrong way but, you’re quite naive in your way of thinking. There will always be players that will spam 1 and there will always be players that try to improve themselves. It will always be the responsibility of the player to undertake that challenge. Anet cannot and will not ever be able to teach a player on how to dodge properly or learn other game mechanics if the player does not want to. “Tutorials” can only help so much, as in, it’s helpful for players that are already motivated to improve and learn. It does absolutely nothing to solve the issues that you are bringing up (hence your flawed thinking). If it was possible to do this, many other games would have already found a solution, and I feel like it almost certainly wouldn’t resemble anything like what I see in this feature pack.

With these latest changes, the only thing that is certain is the high risk of alienating a portion of the veteran player base. You don’t need metrics to know that a veteran player who decides to create new characters without using boosts will eventually feel frustration from having to deal with these changes. Using boosts is avoiding the problem entirely and that isn’t something Anet should really be proposing as an alternative. Bearing this in mind, I’m convinced Anet has made a grave misstep and I feel like they really need to revert most of these changes or simply make it an option (of course, without using boosts to skip it). Sometimes, companies make dumb mistakes with good intentions. It happens all the time. I’m thinking this is one of those times.

GW2 is my first MMO. I’m still fresh. I would have absolutely quit and uninstalled this game if it started out the way it is right now thanks to the latest feature patch. Dat sense of progression from getting my fifth weapon skill tho amirite? Downed state is too overwhelming amirite? Elite skill at level 30 is too soon amirite? All new players are dumb amirite?

In general, it’s a great approach for Anet to announce new features in this way. Such a simple thing like locking the announcements can garner a lot of hype and word of mouth without Anet even doing anything. It keeps people constantly talking and spreading information to various websites. However, if we’re talking about this feature pack specifically though, I’m pretty sure Anet dug themselves in real good. This is probably one of those situations where it would have been ideal to hit a magical “undo everything” button and just announce a bunch of the “features” at once and finish the announcements within a week. It probably would have preemptively squashed a lot of the raging. It’s important to consider what exactly you’re creating hype for.

I get a bunch of key from leveling a character to lvl80 and doing map completion. Obviously at a much slower rate. So there is still ways to acquire black lion keys.

Whining and criticizing has proven to be somewhat effective with Anet. Players being unhappy with something in this game doesn’t mean that the best response should be to tell them to quit. Take a look at how the vanity tags got changed after the outcry on the forums. Sometimes, really dumb changes are made. It’s fine to love broken pieces of a game, but that doesn’t mean you have to love all of the broken pieces.

You guys, downed state is overwhelming. It scares new players away. Also, people get lost, they need more directions. This feature pack is absolutely vital and the slow release of announcing these changes (even though all this stuff already came out in China) was totally necessary. Anet pls.

The past two announcements have left me in a sour mood so I’m just going to rant (and it will probably get lost in this thread anyway). I’ve pretty much hated all of these recently announced changes. I personally don’t believe these changes will make players want to stick around if they already weren’t invested into the game. That said, all of my characters and classes are maxed out at level 80 so I won’t ever see a bunch of these changes meant for “new players”. I feel like I’ve been shoved to the side yet again (I’m used to it already considering that I play WvW more than PvE). Leveling was already easy, maybe I’m missing something? Wow, I had no idea so many players got lost and confused that they needed their hands held. “Downed state is overwhelming”. What are you even babbling about lol?

Anyway, even though these changes never affected me, now indirectly I might be affected due to potentially losing the key farm. I regularly spend an insane amount of cash in the gem store but I’m not going to pay for a chance at getting a measly ticket scrap. Not every gem store item needs to be behind a pay wall. Good 2 years indeed. Going from Dress Wars 2 to China Wars 2 will be a sad day.

P.S. I realize I am overreacting, coming off as selfish, and that I’m making many assumptions. I still don’t care. This feature pack has been a good joke to me that I will laugh about when I’m standing around in LA wondering what color to use on my vanity tag.

What? If the focus of this feature pack is about PvP and WvW, I would imagine this topic would be for the glory points that used to be in PvP. Maybe they are once again messing around with it.

I have the same thing happening to me right now as well but I don’t think it’s dependent on character location.

I think of these exclusive armors as the same as the GW1 gold trim capes. I can’t help but feel that top players should have certain exclusive things (legendaries are just kinda meh at this point given how many people have them) that the majority of the player base can’t have access to. I guess they can do exclusive titles but that doesn’t really stick out visually.

What is your gripe with the log in? I totally don’t understand. I load up the launcher and click on “Log in” and then “Play”. Wow it’s so hard…

I think those armor skins look like absolute garbage. That said, I’m glad the tournament winners will get something exclusive. I don’t really care for spvp (at least this iteration of it), but if players are able to compete at the highest of levels and come out on top they should be rewarded properly.

I’m constantly hovering around 90 charges. I don’t even do map completion anymore. I suppose if I stop playing spvp (and I only play it for the daily achievements) I will be able to sympathize more.

While we’re on this subject, I want a title for not having a legendary. Anet pls, I want to feel like a special snowflake!

I’ve probably only put around 200g worth of rares/exotics (only what I received as drops) in the toilet. However, I quickly gave up on that. I ended up getting my precursor in WvW a few months ago.
