One of the point of mastery points is to challenge you in various ways across Tyria (and the HoT maps). It’s not to have you sit in one place and grind out MP’s. You’re against grinding achievements (only do them once) yet you’re not against grinding Teq (killing him 5 times for 1 MP)?
you misunderstood, the point of this article is about people who hate achievements and dont give a kitten about them, for some of us we just like killing the same thing over and over again!
Think of them as quests then. You do such and such to be awarded a single MP.

I think the concept of the mastery system is great and it gives us something to do in terms of endgame, However, I feel the game is very limited in the way we could earn mastery points. For the base game tyria mastery points, it seems the only way to earn the mastery point I need is to grind achievement,. However there are many of us and me included that really dont give a kitten about achievement. hence, please arena net, add a way for us people who really dont like complicated achievement system to earn mastery point a different way!
AND HOW ABOUT THIS, MAKE SOME BOSSES A REPEATED MASTERY POINT, LIKE IF WE KILL WORLD BOSS TEQ 5 TIMES WE EARN 1 MASTERY POINT. PLS RETHINK THE SYSTEM THANK YOU!

Dagger/Dagger in PvE is viable, but is one of the worst PvE builds available to us. It has less sustained damage than Staff and Dagger/Focus, less burst than Scepter, and less survivability than Dagger/Focus.
If you just want a weapon set to run around in open world with, D/D will work, especially because it has high mobility thanks to RtL. However, for fighting anything stronger than a vet, or for group content, you will be better served by running Staff or D/F.
Again, D/D is definitely viable, but in PvE it is outclassed by Staff and D/F in both damage and survivability.
But to answer your question, zerker gear is still the top DPS gear for ele. Staff and D/F both have enough defensive abilities to keep you alive even with your squishy armor/health, so there is no need to gear for more survivability. That being said, if you find yourself dying a lot then you can switch to Marauder’s gear (Power/Precision/Vitality/Ferocity) for a boost to health with minimal losses to DPS. If that is still not enough survivability then feel free to swap out some zerker gear for Knight’s gear. Just remember that this will drop your DPS quite a bit, and is not necessary if you learn to use the ele’s active mitigation abilities properly.

Okay this isn’t something HoT related but a general issue I’ve been having since day 1 and it hasn’t changed.
I keep having long load screens, I keep having fps issues in lions arch and can only play the game on low-semimedium.
My specs are:
geforce gtx 650
amd phenom II x6 1075T
4gb ram.
I NEVER get why the game is so slow and only playable on low. Is my PC way too weak or what else could be it? Maybe it’s because I got a hexa core?
yeh your pc is too weak buddy! buy a new one and just make sure its not apple because apple computer are weak!

I have saved up 400 heroic notary points now I cant use it at all! Why would you do this? tell me you have not nerfed it????? I played 24 hours stright everyday to earn it pls tell me why!

MMO is a grind there is no escaping it. I have always enjoyed good MMO with a good grind. I had high expectation for heart of thorn and so far I must admit I love every bit of the mastery system grind it is simply brilliant. As a matter of fact i dont feel like I am grinding rather I am working towards some mysterious big goal! My only complaint would be I feel there is not enough grind!

1) too difficult, i have friend who have spend over 30 hours trying to kill the first boss and all they got to show for it is whip after whips!
2) raid boss too small, if you look at wow raids, the bosses are huge and that give you an epic feeling.
3) pls do not nerf exciting builds!
Almost all MMO nowadays have mounts, i wish guild wars 2 will let us have playable mount, but I want it to be hard to get, for example, it should require at lesast twice amount of resource to craft than a legendary weapon, and you have to have achievement above 10K! Cant wait for mount and make it hard to get!

For all you who complain about the price of heart of thorn! Here is what I have to say! The game is not expensive, and to be honest I have no problem paying 100 dollars for it!
Think about it once u buy the game you are going to spend at least 1000 hours playing through all the content, and if you calculate it in terms of movie ticket, an 50 dollar worth of movie ticket will only give you an enjoyment of at most 10 hours of film.
Inclusion to all those who complain about it being too expensive I say go get a job and work!
the ultimate grind is Diablo 3 but they can get away with it because it is so Fing FUN!
I like grinding and have spent over 2000 hours farming the necessary mats and gold for my legendary weapon! i strong feel it is the best part of the game. As a matter of fact i feel there is enough grinding! For example it should be made that leveling from 1-80 should take at least 100hours! And crafting should be at least 3 times as expensive 1-400 as of now! in conclusion i wish there is my grind in this game! THANK YOU!

I have played over 4000 hours of GW2, spend over 1000 dollars on gems. I find the game at its current state very relaxing. I hate games like wow because all the elitist jerks and the bad graphic. Yes true wow have very good raid, but the best content is inaccessible for 98% of the people and the best gear are all take by the 1%. Pls dont make this game like wow. Pls dont turn this game into an elitist fest thank you!

2 days ago i purchased the expansion heart of thorn and there was no problem. Today I tried to purchase some gems, but i keep getting an error message! the error message give no explanation of what is wrong! Pls help me! There is a really nice set of armor i would like to purchase with gems!
i dont agree! if arena net creat the content that you say! The game will scare off a lot of players who are already playing this game! Beside if people are really looking for such difficult content they would be playing another game such as wow! and if you are going the wow root this game will be dead! Because no game can creat wow better then wow!
Why are you associating hard content with Wow? other games can have hard content and it can have nothing to do with wow.
Also casual =/= easy, it just means it only requires a low playtime to complete. You still have to be competent to complete it (even a “casual” game is still a game where your personal skills are the main assessment).
FYI
I’m playing Guildwars 2 because:
-No level cap raises ever
-No gear treadmill
-Less non-endgame grind
-Story and loveI did not sign up for all easy content, I want the game to be trying to beat me and I want to be able to be an elite as in any MMO.

I see two problems regarding difficulty in content.
One problem is that Arenanet does not want to create content that is grindy, or gate content requiring you to grind. The reason why Ascended is only 5% better is because you have to do a massive grind to get to it, Fractals is also very grindy. You can consider them endgame, since overtime your gear improve and your Agony Resistance increases.
Another problem is since how all content is not gated by grinding stats (which consumes a lot of time), you can pretty much pub stomp every PvE encounter pre-80.
However, Arenanet has created some content that is difficult, but at the same time very fun. There is a problem, however. Overtime as the difficult content ages, more and more players familiarize themselves with how the boss works, increasing the chance of their win rate (Triple Trouble is a special exception, since I’ve never had the chance to beat it even through multiple tries)
Let’s take an example, Vinewrath. It’s been about 5 months since this little guy has existed, and I’ve ran plenty of runs throughout the months to examine my experience. Between 1 to 3 months being released, it was fairly common to see the Breach and Vinewrath fail. But when mid April hit, I’ve observed that the win rate is pretty high. As of now, I’d be surprised if I see the Breach fail and really, really surprised to see Vinewrath fail.
You may create the argument “Vinewrath and the Breach is always easy for me!”, sure. However, it’s not the same situation when you have 100-200 people on your side and having enough coordination to beat the boss.
I would absolutely love Arenanet to create these giant, epic bosses and to have them absolutely heart-wrenching difficult. It will harden the players, and overtime will make them more skilled, resulting in smoother dungeon runs, better win rate for Triple Trouble (the Triple Trouble boss is perfect for a true endgame boss), and more engaged gameplay. I believe Arenanet has created a mistake by making things easier. Arenanet should gate content by skill and group coordination, not by stats. Why? Because they’re Arenanet. I’ve played Guild Wars 1 (not as much as GW2 now), and while the level cap is 20, consider yourself dead if you don’t have the proper skills and the proper team to beat the content.
When I play Heart of Thorns, I want to see players being killed by everything until we’re hardwired to understand the mechanics. The defiance mechanic is amazing, and encourages teamwork instead of zerging bosses until they’re dead. So far from what I’ve seen, Arenanet has stepped their game up in terms of mechanics and difficult (their post-launch bosses are seriously good), and it’s our job to step it up as well.
TLDR: I disagree, OP. Overtime content will become easier as more players learn how HoT content works. Arenanet should gate content by skill and group coordination, not by stats.
i dont agree! if arena net creat the content that you say! The game will scare off a lot of players who are already playing this game! Beside if people are really looking for such difficult content they would be playing another game such as wow! and if you are going the wow root this game will be dead! Because no game can creat wow better then wow!
It wouldn’t scare them off at all, there’s tons of things in-game that these “casual” players can still do.
What about those of us that have sunk hundreds or even thousands of hours into the game? We’re not all content running the same easy content day in day out, we like to be challenged.
As it is now, i can’t think of anything in-game but level 50 fractals that actually require me to be alert, everything else i do in-game can pretty much be done auto pilot, i can pay little to no attention and still do well at. It’s a game, i should be focusing and concentrating, not treating it like I’m playing farmville on facebook by mindlessly pushing buttons and clicking away.
if level 50 fractal is your thing, then go play level 50 fractal! why should a game cater to the 1%? explain that to me!
I see two problems regarding difficulty in content.
One problem is that Arenanet does not want to create content that is grindy, or gate content requiring you to grind. The reason why Ascended is only 5% better is because you have to do a massive grind to get to it, Fractals is also very grindy. You can consider them endgame, since overtime your gear improve and your Agony Resistance increases.
Another problem is since how all content is not gated by grinding stats (which consumes a lot of time), you can pretty much pub stomp every PvE encounter pre-80.

I love the friendly guild war 2 community! PLS dont make the next patch of content so hard such that 90% of the player base cant beat!
I lover guild war 2 and I think it is the most beautiful rpg out right now graphic wise! Even though guild war 2 vanilla lacks hard pve content! I still play guild war 2 a lot! I have spend over 200 dollars on guild war 2 buying skins making my character look beautiful! But what really separate guild war 2 from many other games such as world of warcraft is the friendly players and the friendly community! In other MMOs such as wow or tera rising the players are very mean! they dont help new players out, they will boot you for making 1 mistake in dungeons or raids! If you go on the main chat in any of those mmos the players not only will not help you but they will give you wrong answers or tell you lies just to screw with your head!

Hi I am kind of new to this game may I ask is staff elementalist any good for high fractals?
I have a very pretty elementalist she is currently using a legendary staff, however I have come to the conclusion a staff despite being beautiful is no good for very high fractal or hard dungeons!
Currently I am looking at either Dagger dagger build or some kind of dagger and offhand.
All the guide I have seen despite very detail on everything else does not tell me at all which character stats (agility, power,spell,critical ,etc) i should be concentrating. So please enlighten me on the stat priority for my elementalist.
and here are the two guide i am reading up on but if u know a better guide please enlighten me thank you! oh yeh by the way I am also interested in PVP!

I just bought my first ascended Amulet. I am wondering if i put infusion rank 1 and later if i find infusion rank 9, can i take out the rank 9 and add rank 1 to my amulet?
For legendary weapons is it true that you can change the infusion? for example if i got infusion A and letter i find that infusion B is better can i change to B?

My question is what stat should I be concentrating on? is condition damage any good?
Is berserk set good? Should I go with traveler runes or divinity? please help me as there is not much talk about staff elementalist and by the way I am also fire, water and arcen (30,20,30)!
