So I did an experiment, I used an ele and fought another ele (in spvp, where direct dmg has not been nerfed) we used scepter and spammed water auto at each other. I was using berserker while the other ele was using settler which was typical because that ele was using a condi build. We tested it out, I had 3 might the whole entire fight and only managed to won with 1k hp left over. Therefore I conclude that this is completely unacceptable and shows how op condi classes are. They have toughness and vitality to take all your dmg while spamming condi at you, <—- don’t deny this, most of you condi people run dire.

You were both in water, spamming the auto with like 0 condi damage scaling, you were in a glass damage array, they were in a defensive array spamming an attack that did not scale off of what offensive stats they did have, you win and you conclude condi’s are OP?

Yes i concluded that condi’s op, the condi ele was built for condi, i used berserker and was built for dmg, I had 3 stacks of might the entire time and only managed to win with 1k hp left, this shows that condi builds can negate most of the direct dmg. If the ele actually applied condi to me i would have died much faster. Also don’t tell me to use condi removal, when i actually fought that condi ele (not just spamming auto attacks, a real fight) I used ether renewal never once was i interrupted while using it, so i enjoyed the full effect of ether renewal, which removed 8 conditions, plus the conditions i removed while in water form. It wasn’t nearly enough, condi was quickly spammed on me as quickly it was removed.

You actually replied to the statements? Probably shouldn’t have even acknowledge it. He is literally using scepter auto attacks on two character with entirely different trait set ups as a basis to claim balance or imbalance. You cannot take that seriously.

As well, you can never take anyone seriously that claims to tell you what everyone in the entire game wears for gear.

Dire is the what most people use for condi, it gives you vitality toughness and condition dmg. Also this just shows that as a berserker i needed 3 stacks of might to be able to beat a condi ele and i only won with 1k hp left. I don’t know but that makes condi sound pretty op to me, the condi ele doesnt even need condi to win.

Personally you should probably remove 2 from dueling and put it into inspiration, this way you remove 2 conditions every 20 seconds. Due to the cast time with the mantras, it’s simply better to just have it with your heal.

You would get the trait where it removes 2 condi with heal
Get shattered conditions, 1 condition removed per clone shattered.
null field stand in it, it’s like weaker version of berserker stance, but it also removes enemy boons.

the highest is 0.55, they are so low, no one uses them in power builds for their dmg, people use them in condi builds, because the condi from the nades are far superior. If you played spvp at all you would know that after the patch dmg with power builds like rifle have increased because they scale well for people to actually notice for example:

Nade dmg is so weak to begin with, and plus no one with nades ever actually have much ferocity (crit dmg), the dmg increase is so minuscule that is not really noticed. Unlike my example from earlier, my iswordsman crit for maximum of 4.5k where now it crits for maximum of 8.5k, which is a huge dmg increase, rifle landing dmg for engineers crit for 4-5k now crit for 6-8k.

Thus, before you kitten tell me that i’m uninformed actually look at the kitten stats. You are the one who is actually uninformed.

An important thing to remember: 0.55 scaling isn’t very high on its own, but you do need to multiply the damage total you get from the calculation by the number of nades thrown.
This is why Lava Font is a very powerful skill for Staff Eles – it does 302*(0.9scaling) damage, but deals this damage every tick of the AoE. When traited with Persisting Flames, this gives it damage of 302*(5.4scaling) damage to anyone who stays in the AoE for its duration. That’s… a lot.

With the pretty spammable nature of nades, up to 3 hits per kit skill, all the damage ticks landing at once, and the 1500 range, this makes the direct damage from nades really very strong – even with lower Power stats.

But do realize do to the cast time of nades and the time it takes to aim. No one uses nades in power builds.

First of all what build are you using? What ele build are you fighting? These are all accounted for when you fight eles.

1.For D/D (dagger dagger) S/D (scepter dagger) builds their attacks are so telegraphed, you can dodge them quite easily.

2. Dagger/dagger, scepter dagger air form has a knockdown, eles generally use it when they use ride the lightning (turn into lightning and charges towards you) you should dodge :P if they use the knock down they are knocked back for a brief second as well, if they don’t use it just beware and prepare to use stun break when they do

3. D/D and S/d also has the air aura, if you see it up stop hitting them, you will only get stunned, unless you have stability don’t hit them.

2.If you see any ele using ether renewal, if you don’t know what it looks like look it up on youtube. You can stun them, daze them and they stop healing.

3. Don’t use your full burst combo, wait until they go out of water form

4. if they are using scepter/dagger, scepter/focus, when they go in air form, they will usually pop their lightning combo and stuff, you can actually dodge the lightning, since most eles use it immediately when they are in air form, dodge the moment you see them going into air.

5. Dagger/ Dagger, Scepter/Dagger might charge an earth attack, this can be devastating, sometimes they will cast it and then use lightning flash to you, so just because you are out of it’s range doesnt mean you are safe. either block, blind them, or be prepared to dodge

Take a berserker stance, because the burns might be devastating

Follow these steps and you should be fine :P

Actually grenades scale better with power then condition damage. This is fairly common knowledge.

Tool kit, grenade kit, elixir gun, bomb kit, rifle, P/P, and P/S are all doing the same or less damage. I was simply stating the fact that the engineer is not doing any more damage in sPvP.

I was simply responding to someone stating that every professions skills are hitting harder. Your telling me I am wrong. Yet i would suspect you have not tested this.

I have seen no evidence that every profession has any base increased damage outside of issues with pet and pet like skills.

Experience on my thief, warrior, and guardian today, have displayed no signs of a damage increase in general skills either.

Simply taking a picture of your character will suffice,
It’s absolutely impossible to reach 3.2k armor with 24k hp and 50% crit and 190 crit dmg and 2200 power, this is only achieved through ascended armor, achieving this without food, without might stacks is impossible: http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fJAQJARDGAAAQDTODA-TBRYgA0KB50FAo8DX9HA-e
Full ascended armor 54% crit chance, all berserker, armor is only 2.2k, power is 1.9k, doesnt matter what you mix, cant achieve those stats :P unless you have enough trait points to take all traits.

nvm the skill editor just bugged, the cri chance wont go up more than 39%, but still with no ascended you can’t reach those stats. Doesnt matter how much gold you use, the stats for gear are the same. Toughness like that cannot be reached without ascended, or without sacrifice of either crit chance or power.

The damage in wvw got nerfed so hard I would recommend full zerk if you wanna have a chance against condi bunkers. And btw your power is incredibly low. With food I almost have 4k power on my warr. But interesting weapon combination , axe/mace and Hammer sounds pretty good even though I never tested it.

Don’t know where you get that much power from, must be from bloodlust and migth stacks

Turrets work as part of a build, turrets have a higher rate of fire, and it’s used in certain situations. Most people use turrets with rifle, and cleric stats. Making them really hard to kill and the constant dmg from the turrets wears people off quite fast.

How is every class hitting harder? Some skills took a specific damage nerf. Some skills got a buff. To state that every profession is generally hitting harder is extremely poorly thought out.

The question is, is there a reason some or all phantasms are hitting harder?

Have you been playing the game? The damage is pvp is insane from everyone right now. It seems it has something to do with the ferocity change. You are complaining about mesmers when a thief can take another glass to 0 with one backstab.

It is not just mesmers.

There’s definitely something wrong with the ferocity change, it seemed to increase everyone’s damage. DancingMonkey, skills getting nerfed or buffed as nothing to do with the dmg bug. Atm pvp dmg seemed to increase alot before the patch. My iswordsman used to hit 4.5k max, now it hits for 7k. Other classes are the same, hammer warriors supposedly got nerfed, but there dmg remains the same. Backstabs seem to hit for more than before etc.

I am not sure why people keep saying it is just mesmer phantasms when every class is noticeably hitting harder.

I totally agree with you are saying, it seems in spvp all dmg seems to have increased. However the problem is our hp have not changed, hitting huge dmg gives a player no chance to make any mistakes, which is really unbalanced.

Yes… and 9K from a iZerker while the mesmer sits in stealth.

I agree with the dmg is too high, but izerker can’t hit 9k no matter what you do, and I would know because i got 30% dmg increase (max for phantasms) with traits. Without it having huge stacks of might it can never do this ^ Also mesmers cannot sit in stealth. Name one stealth ability that can be spammed. Even with pu this can’t be accomplished.

My iswordsman deals 7k without might stacks, but it does have 30% dmg increase from traits. This is pretty kitten high considering it hits every 4 seconds. However, I only have experienced this in pvp (not wvw pvp), so there must be something bugged about these crazy damage.

This is a L2P issue.
Like a hardcore L2P issue.

You have stealth, invul, block, protection, teleport (x2 if you have a staff) and if you bring it a knockback as well as a daze…

You should never have trouble with a hammer warrior as a mesmer.

Invulnerability high Cd, lose all my phantasms.

you make it look like im using pu, because only pu has all of this ^

The main point is the warrior didn’t dodge any of my max damage phantasms. Yet I’m the one to die.

How do you lose against a hammer warrior with a mesmer?

With the staff you have a teleport every 8-10 seconds. With the sword every 10 to 12 seconds you have a 2 second evade. You have blink every 24-30 seconds. You have kitten near permanent vigor. You have stealth a quarter of the time. You have distortion. If you went a PU build you have aegis and protection. Mesmers have an assortment of cripples, stuns, immobilizes and dazes.

I am assuming by what you said he went hammer/axe. That means they have zero mobility and you should be able to kite circles around him. If he killed you with one combo then something is probably wrong with your build. Either he went mostly zerker (which should mean your phantasms should of made quick work of him, unless you have low power) or more of an average build (which means you probably need more toughness and vit).

I’m sorry but your whole rationale of “Class X” beat “Class Y” so Class X needs a nerf is just stupid. Especially as a mesmer who have so many active defenses and who are supposed to be the counter to warriors in a 1v1 scenario.

First of all I went max phantasm dmg, doesn’t work at all, you need to realize that the warrior also has damage negation, and you make it sound like i can avoid it all the time. Sure i have blink and evade, but where would i get block?

What is with warrior’s hammers?
They offer too much of dmg and stun.
I fought a hammer war, dodged every single of his stuns until the very end when i ran out of dodges, he killed me instantly with the full stun combo -_-
I was playing phantasm mesmer, I watch him get hit by all of my phantasms’ attacks, by missing 1 adrenaline stun I die, I mean if i get hit by most of the stuns it’s l2p issues, but come on how is it possible to dodge all of them, and the warrior’s other weapon set skills.

you have to dodge the stuns every few seconds
axe you have to dodge evicerate every few seconds
I don’t think I have enough dodges for this.

That’s not how you use that heal -__-, you use it with staff ele, use “geyser” when in water form then use arcane brilliance for a blast finisher which will heal you about 7k :P

mesmer push back needs to be removed lol. You need to l2p, you can dodge the pushback, dodge the phantasms, don’t hit mesmers on scepter block, don’t hit clones if they have condi on clone death, kill the phantasms. Mesmers aren’t that good in 1v1 as people think they are, they are only good if you are a noob who can’t dodge the phantasms.

Clones can’t evade lol, mesmers are so easy to find they are the ones casting the clones dodging, it’s so obvious where they are, these are obviously issues regarding your skill.

However I do have to admit if you are a noob you can’t win against a mesmer on the same level as you, all of their phantasms will hit you doing massive dmg because you can’t dodge it.

I think we can all agreed that currently thieves are stealing (no pun intended) all the attention when it comes to damage dealer/roamer/squishy.

Their OP superb damage coupled with spammable blinds, teleports, dodges, stealth, backstabs is driving to extinction the few eles and mesmers that remain (today we lost 2 top mesmer players due to this, on top of the countless nameless elementalists which plead for fixes long time ago after getting the boot up their …..feet)

Backstabs, without any kind of interaction on the taker other than bending over and taking it regardless of skillfully blocking it, blinding or evading the attack.

Blinds, which reapply on literally every second and then there is the fact that every ranged skill on thieves (except autoattack) applies a blind through this field.

Teleports that cure conditions and break stuns, rendering any form of CC, soft or hard, useless. On top of not only having one, or 2, or 3, or 4 , or 5……. just as many as initiative permit, on top of 2 freebies on low CD.


You cant give one class all the best tools for survival regardless of stats, give it the best single target damage and then allow it to take anybody else’s role and call it a day.

Suggestions; blind fields, same treatment the earth storm ele got; once every 4 seconds.
Teleports, increase initiative cost, give it 1/2 or 3/4 seconds precast, 1/2 activation.
Damage and boon stealing; needs an ICD and the damage needs some shaving down, specially spamable skills, something not along the lines of 8%, but rather 15-25%.

Thoughts?

lol i disagree with this thread completely, I think thief is well balanced, I’m not saying this because i play thief, I do really well against thieves using other classes.

@OP: As a Mesmer, you shouldn’t be complaining about anything other than group support. Be quiet and hope ANET doesn’t realize that Mesmer is the best 1v1 class in the game.

Why? Because 1v1 is one of the game modes?

No 1v1 is not one of the game modes, which means that you shouldnt be complaining, 10 sec of boons isn’t alot at all when fighting in teams, mesmers have pu, should it be nerfed? Mesmers have high damaging phantasms, have you seen the dmg with these phantasms, they hit for 3-4k even when the other person has 2.8k armor. Mesmers also get great shatters, which used properly can probably take the thief down to 3-4k hp, so no the steal buff is not op.

If you are good enough you can always dodge.
