So Anet did not balance this game for 1v1, they intended to balance the game around “team fights”. Then you realize the ones that are good at team fights are usually decent in 1v1s as well.

Now you look at thieves, upon character creation, they tell you that you are supposed to be deadly in 1v1s, but you are not… So you must be good in teams? NOPE…. The lack of aoes and team support makes you useless in team fights, and the constant passives of other classes makes you useless in 1v1s.

So basically I wanted to test out the thieves’ dmg, I went in pvp and asked a maurauder amulet druid to stand there and let me hit him and all he does is heal, so every few seconds he passively applies weakness to me, and let me tell you I could not kill him. Imagine if he actually moved around, there is no way a thief can kill the ranger. Then I asked him to attack me with his bristleback pet, which almost one shotted me…… Seriously wtf?

Conclusion: Thieves are weaker than ranger pets.

New Thief Bunker Meta

Hey guys, since there are so many bunkers out there, thieves need to go bunker as well! To do this you simply grab all the stealth utilities, shadow arts trait line, daredevil, and acrobatics. the idea is to permanently stealth and evade all day. This is the best bunker possible and it’s better than any other class bunkers as you can’t take any dmg so every thief player needs to be using this and go play some ranked matches and win!

um there is no way he can hit you that hard if you have 3200 armor….. Unless he has might + bloodlust + you have vulnerability + other traits increasing dmg done to you.
Assuming his weapon strength is 1166 (Max according to gw2 wiki), the hammer 2 ability has coefficient of 2.25 (this is for the final impact which has the highest coefficient). Using the equation (acquired from the wiki):

dmgdone = weapon strength*power*coefficient / armor
dmgdone = 1166*4000*2.25/3200
dmgdone = 3279.375

This is assuming that he actually has 4000 power…. he cannot achieve this without alot of might + bloodlust + traits. This is also assuming that he doesn’t crit. So let’s assume that it’s a crit and he has 250% critical dmg (Assuming he actually can achieve this amount which is not possible without traits and other players buffing him). Meaning that we multiply the base dmg done (3279.375) by 2.5. This will make him do 8198.4375 dmg.

So as you can see, I have assumed that he has very high stats (4000 power + 250% critical dmg) and he only did 8198.4375 dmg, however this dmg does not factor in vulerability. Let’s assume that you have 25 stacks of vulerability which increases dmg done to you by 25%. The total amount of dmg that could be done is 10248.

To conclude in no kittening way do you have 3200 armor because I gave him absurdly high stats, and gave you 25 stacks of vulerability. You also said that you dont have any blocks, so there is no way cruel repercussion (rev trait) can activate. But if it did, it would do around the amount shown in your battle log (this is very unlikely because he would need absurdly high stats, you need to have 25 stacks of vul) So I determined that you are full of crap.

Actually he didn’t, because he used a wrong way of how damage modifiers stack, or better yet, he did not use all of them. Also he used wrong damage coeficient for third hit on CoR. Even so, we can take the base damage that he calculated:

3279 (with correct damage coeficient of CoR it’s even higher).

And now we use the CORRECT way of how damage coefficients stack and ALL of those that this Rev had, we get the following:

3279 * 2,5(assuming 250% crit damage) * 1,07 (7% damage from Ferocious Agression) * 1,5 (50% damage from Cruel repercussion) = 13156 damage

Tadaaa. Without vulnerability.

So yes, damage on screenshot is possible on 3200 armor.

OR HOW EXACTLY MY DMG COEFFICIENT STACKING IS WRONG? I will admit I did not include Ferocious Aggression, but 3279 * 2.5(assuming 250% crit damage) * 1.25 (25 stacks of vulerability) is 10248, which is exactly what I said it was on the post before.

But the huge point you are missing here is the fact that 4k power + 250% critical dmg is not achievable. With Assassin’s presence (+150 ferocity or 10% crit chance) and full zerk and scholar runes you will end up with 237%. Note that you have to be using full ascended gear which I doubt many people has for their revs at this point. Try getting 4k power and 250% crit dmg on the build editor, you won’t ever reach this kind of stats. If some one achieves this absurdly high stats, they deserve to be doing that much dmg, because they have 0 survivability. Also, the dmg calculations done was using the highest possible weapon strength for the hammer, so the actual dmg would be even lower.

Also the creator of this thread said that he does not have blocks, so cruel repercussion will not be activating. The only thing missing is the Ferocious Aggression, if you include that in the damage calculations, you will only be getting 10965 dmg.

Everyone was raging about Dragonhunters in PvP and now with the release of the PvP system I’ve watched them all but disappear from play. Even in the ESL there was only what, one DH? On EU the meditrapper build seems to be nearly gone and it’s dropping a lot on NA too.

I’m not saying DH is bad, but other specs are obviously much more powerful in PvP scenarios.

Funny how things change in just a few weeks.

I applied all abyss dyes to this armor set and you can see that the Mistward armor (from becomming lv 80 revenant and completeling the special collections) has completely different colors from other armors…

Seems fair. 1 is an elite that is a flying thingy that be killed and kinda gives the engies postion away. The other is a dark feild wich can be blasted (done that many times when I go revealed, blast the heck out of it so enemy’s are blinded)

Um….. the only way for you to keep doing the blast finisher is by using cluster bomb, and if it hits anyone, it’s going to reveal you. Considering that the whole point of thieves is that they are masters of stealth, you would think that they are able to have more stealth than an engi or actually have reveal abilities. Seriously, shadow refuge completely gets nullified by using facet of darkness (rev herald)…..

Also with that elite argument:

Basilisk Venom: 45 second CD for a 2 second stun……… There is a huge list of stun abilities that are not elites that are just way better than this. I mean right on top of my mind is Engi’s turret drop, and necro’s aoe freeze.

Pulmonary Impact: This is a terrible elite and nothing else needs to be said about it.

Thieves Guild: thieves have low hp and don’t do much dmg, the only thing nice is the scorpion wire and black powder from the theives. However all this for 180 second CD!!

Dagger Storm: Using this skill is just like asking to die, maybe if you time it right it would be super good against a ranged class, but you can’t dodge otherwise it gets canceled. So during this while you cant dodge, they can kill you with melee.

Good job you actually read what I typed. I said I do blast it when I got revealed… (typo go).

By blasting it, you are just wasting initiative, no one is going to see the slow cluster bomb falling down and still stay in its range… Since you did not reply the rest of my post, I assume that you either didn’t read or can’t argue with the fact that thief elites are just crap.

um… you can’t decap in stealth? No class can, not even thieves in stealth. As for the second part of what you said, I have no idea what you mean.
However, Yes people can see you moving around the map because the stealth gyro is still visible, but consider this: engis can stealth rez players by stealthing the downed player and himself using stealth gyro, he can also prevent stealth rez by using the reveal from the stealth gyro, which thieves cannot do at all. So considering how strong this stealth gyro and scrapper is, I doubt the fact that people can still know where you are when using the gyro is a problem at all

And another post about DH lol if you really die to one you need to find a different game. I main thief and yes thief isn’t in the best of spots but DH are not difficult to take down if you don’t numbskull button mash into their traps. My god most dragon hunter players you can keep shut down with interrupts. I can tell more people are having to go into pvp to try to get their stuff for legendary crafting. Let the real thief problems be addressed and hope anet mods are smart enough not to listen to the 1 mashers. Dragon Hunters are good at killing bad players and can hold their own against some classes while getting destroyed by others. Thief has issues in its current state, but just because it does doesn’t mean we as a thief community need to stoop down to the please nerf everyone else level that most classes forums are. Btw thief main since release and sin main on original gw.

I don’t know what kind of dh you have been facing, but the actual good ones don’t die to thieves. I played some pretty good thieves and they cant kill me at all. I bought hot thinking that thieves would be greatly improved, but I was really wrong, thieves problems are never going to be fixed, and dh will probably always be op, so I’m done playing with thieve’s active play style, time to go passive. The devs don’t know how to balance properly. From what you have posted, you sound more like a guardian main than thief, but I don’t care about that I’m joining the guardian army

Switching from Thief to Dragon Hunter

I have been playing thief for years, but lately thieves have become a terrible class, weak dmg, no survivability. I decided to change to dragon hunter and see why they do so much dmg and able to have good survivability. I played some hot join and rekt everyone I faced, the trap heal ability can heal 8k on a 24 second cd and it also grants you regeneration retaliation and gives enemies dazed and blindness. it’s so rediculous I even manged to beat other people who played their classes for a long time just by spamming traps. I don’t know what my skills do, I didn’t care I just pressed whatever was off cool down. I had a lot of success during the 3 hours I played dh so I’m going to stop playing thief for a while and play some of these brain dead elite specs.

The devs wanted to just nerf the withdrawl CD without adding anything to it. They purposefully added the heal increased by 10% part so that people won’t think the nerf is so bad, but they are never going to give that 10%.

- Dodge – never gonna get a straight answer
- Steal – Acro nerfed to create Daredevil
- Initiative – never full
- Trickery – when they said a nerf is a “masssssssive BUFFF”

My build, just a bit more toughness and vitality and critical chance. And a tad less power and ferocity (Comparing to your build IchigoHatake). Still keeping an eye out for fine adjustment and such to the build but it work for me.
Also, no +stat infusions (except AR and MF)

Your build has more toughness, vitality, and does more dmg than my build. But the thing is you are using a signet to boost precision so you are not using blinding powder, the stealth from it is very good for survival. Your are using critical strikes, and trickery trait line is a must these days so you are either leaving deadly arts or shadow arts, shadow arts is kind of a must as well otherwise you have only 2 condition removal which is the signet (removes 1 every 30 seconds) and shadowstep (removes 2 every 50 seconds) which is not nearly enough condition removal. If you leave deadly arts, you can’t apply weakness and your skills dont have a chance to recharge (improvisation), so you are leaving out alot survivability out, so I don’t think it’s worth it to have that extra bit of dmg and bit more toughness over useful traits and utilities.

However, if we compare just stats from gear only (no food, no traits, no signets). I have 7% more critical dmg and a tiny bit more crit chance, you have 100 more armor and a tiny bit more vitality, Our power is pretty much the same if you actually use infusions that gives you stats So between our two builds it’s just a personal preference really, each gear setup is pretty good!

Yeah I think 15k hp with 2200 armor is perfect. Thieves have the lowest hp pool and lowest armor in game, there is literally no point in sacrificing all the dmg thieves can put out by increasing hp or armor. Unless you are planning to play wvw, stick to zerk.

I use vamp runes because it’s a life saver, I realized that with vamp I can pretty much beat any thief i face. The health leeching is also pretty nice. I mean I can hit incredibly high stats: high armor, high power, high crit, high ferocity, 15k vitality, but then you would have to use signets and critical strikes (trickery and deadly arts for d/p is pretty much a must, I feel like i need shadow arts for condi removal) :P so that isn’t really an option.

Shadow Form: Activates only when you are revealed.
Passive: Apply blinds in a small aoe

Abilities:

Turn into a shadow (kinda like mist form): become a shadow on the ground, cannot be targeted by players, immune to attacks, cannot attack, remove all condition currently on player

Shadowstep: switch places with an enemy and blind them

Shadowbind: bind the shadows of all enemies in an aoe, immobolizing them

Shadowburst: charge an attack to do massive aoe dmg, takes you out of shadow form.

And? Every class has ranged and melee attacks.

but warriors specialize in melee, their melee attacks does alot of dmg compared to other classes’ melee. Rangers should specialize in ranged weapons (it’s in the name) so buffing warrior’s ranged weapons just makes rangers more and more useless.

Best amount of Toughness and Vitality?

I don’t think I lose that much dps, the only reason I use sentinel is because it gives me lots of vitality and some toughness. I feel like having only 2000 toughness isn’t very good.

20k hp? lol thieves should not have that much hp unless they are condi. the first build I posted has 1k more hp and 100 more armor. The second build I posted has 7% more crit dmg, and around 5% more crit. Which one is better?
