Perhaps in future we could come up with a compromise and have ‘regular’ and ‘prestige’(hard) versions?

Am I the only one who fears off my team in MK?

in Halloween Event

Posted by: Ickorus.4518

Ickorus.4518

I do that, I’d feel bad if it wasn’t so funny.

I did manage to hold off on doing it once when my entire team were in the perfect spot for all four of them being feared off the edge, only reason I didn’t do it was because I was in a rush and wanted to get the boss down, would have been hilarious though.

I wouldn’t do it if it caused repair costs or anything, but it doesn’t so we all have a good laugh.

I would, but I’m the sort of guy that uses aoe swiftness on his friends to cause an overshoot on jumping puzzles, especially funny when it’s from a great height.

I can’t imagine it being the same next year, a lot of the story for this year was about the Mad King being MIA for 250 years and they can’t really do that again unless everyone in the game suddenly suffers from amnesia.

OP: Go and do the puzzle, you’re not to blame because other people are bad are trying to blame their inability to complete the puzzle on other people.

For me: I’m petty, I did it on my Charr Warrior and received a bit of abuse so I grabbed a banner and used swiftness at the most inopportune moment causing a bunch of the people running it to fall off the edge.

Why aren't we able to zoom out this far?

in Halloween Event

Posted by: Ickorus.4518

Ickorus.4518

The problem with this is that Arenanet built the game around a certain camera distance, any further and in the game world we may sometimes see things we’re not supposed to (out of maps, over walls with nothing behind them, etc) and it also opens up the possibility to be exploited in WvW & sPvP with people being able to see over walls easily. Also it gives an advantage to people who choose to zoom out to such a ridiculous level forcing anyone at all serious about the game to follow suit even if they don’t want to.

Besides, they already increased distance during one of the beta events and I quite like the more personal feel of being closer in; after all, it’s an RPG, not an RTS.

Ickorus.4518

I agree but the only complaint is that for example beating the mad king in the dungeon is not worth it. I solod it because I can’t group and basically it was a waste of time, since the only achievement you get there is the one when you enter. Loot was absolutely abysmal. :/
Otherwise it’s all good, just the common mistake in GW2 of dungeons not rewarding people anything.

I think the thing Anet are trying to drive home for people is that their game isn’t an endless grind for loot, you’re supposed to play the dungeon because it’s fun, not for the reward it offers.

I for one loved it and I got greens that couldn’t be used by any of my three regular characters.

Real PvP is when both know what is about to go down.

If i fight someone irl i dont charge someone from behind with full force, i’m not a bi*ch and i’m not weak.

Be a man you girls, the only real PvP is when both knows what is about to happen.
:)

Pretty much this, ganking lowbies or blindsiding unsuspecting foes does not make you a real PvPer.

Though I do admit I’d like to see an area that blends PvP and PvE together for cool rewards, something like the hunger games event during the beta but more fleshed out.

The “They didn’t tell us the chance” argument is rather silly really.

After opening 5 – 6 chests and not getting anything you should have realised the chances probably weren’t too high; the real issue is you didn’t have the restraint to stop yourself and the blame for that sits squarely on your shoulders.

Anyway, yeah, loving the events so far and looking forward to the ones coming.

in Halloween Event

Posted by: Ickorus.4518

Ickorus.4518

I would but I’m not particularly bothered by how things are at the moment, just how the system is at the moment.

I will admit that I think the Black Lion Chests need to be overhauled to provide a better risk/reward factor though.

For instance what I would do is have most of the current rewards available in the gem store and have the chest give people some tonics, a random booster and an item from the gem store.

Cheap items would have a much higher chance of dropping than expensive items but the chance for expensive items would exist, if I was feeling particularly devious I might even make it so costume set items are available but only single parts of the set each chest so players have incentive to put more in for the chance of recieving their full set of gear.

I would also keep items such as the permanent express bank and other similar rewards unique to the Black Lion Chest with a very low drop chance so players would have yet more incentive to purchase keys and would feel special for getting the item if it drops.

The reason I’d do it like this would be so players would be able to get most items if they want them but they can get the chest for a chance to get a bargain and Anet would be clear from blame if someone decides to spend ridiculous money on keys.

Everyone is a winner.

Halloween related crafts should be attainable through Halloween related items and events so people that attend the event are able to get it rather than just the people who grinded for ages before the event began or have lots of excess gold lying around.

But it’s early days yet, perhaps we’ll see more options for getting special loot towards the end of the event.

I’d like to see reputation grinds (like in the first game) put in to help keep players interested, special rewards, titles, achievements and gear would help give players a fair incentive to level reputations.

And to help deal with excess money I suggest having something like borderlands 2 style slot-machines implemented and perhaps have mini-games such as keg-brawl feature a mode where people put money in a pot and the winning team share the profits.

Weapon Set Changing during tpvp - should it be allowed

in PvP

Posted by: Ickorus.4518

Ickorus.4518

Yeah that’s another thing that bothers me. Your build should be a commitment once the game starts, to encourage people to run balanced, adaptable builds. Otherwise you can just go ‘oh gimmick 1 didn’t work, but gimmick 2 counters them hard’.

Agreed here, I think the best solution would be to allow players to alter their weapons in the preparation phase of a game but remove that ability as soon as the game properly starts.

I would also suggest players be totally unable to switch classes during a tournament, even in the preparation stages of matches; you should be making a good, well rounded team for the entire thing, not re-rolling each match to suit the map and team you are against.

I’d love to see a couple of Octopus pets, I know Octopi aren’t in the game at the moment but a pet would really work well.

I’d have them with similar stats to the wolf, one of them would have an F2 skill to latch onto an enemy and cause Sink and the other would spray ink and cause blindness. (In the same way as the Ranger Harpoon Gun skill, spray ink and launch itself away)

You could also consider one that could stealth itself but I prefer the other two.

So, either I missed it in which case it needs to be put somewhere more obvious, I’d vote in the support menu, or it doesn’t exist in which case it needs to be created.

Just to note, he was going over double regular speed.

Too much damage placed on single abilities.

in Thief

Posted by: Ickorus.4518

Ickorus.4518

One last try here, after this I’m just not going to bother because you guys must be being deliberately obtuse.

My suggestion for Heartseeker isn’t a nerf, it would add depth to the ability that isn’t there at the moment, I would like to see the ability used to either flank an enemy who is already fighting and deal high damage to them or to deal with fleeing foes.

Pistol whip would deal around half the damage it does now but would get more CC capability which would synergise much better with the rest of the Sword/Pistol abilities.

And to answer your questions: I main as a Ranger in Tournaments but play Thief, Warrior, Guardian and Elementalist outside of that when the mood strikes me.

I like the way the thief plays, just not the way that if I want to be effective with my build I have to use a single skill for the vast majority of my damage. (Sword/Pistol & Shortbow)

Oh and before you say it, my Ranger has little trouble dealing with most thieves and other burst damage characters, I load a bunch of conditions on them then evade their burst whilst my pet nibbles on their legs; when the burst is spent I go back to loading conditions then repeat.

Initiative system is designed to be able to spam the ability you need when you need it. If it wasn’t they would have just use the recharge system of every other class. Why does this get beat to death, rise from the dead, and get beat to death again. No matter what you tweak, whatever the current flavor is people will use it. If you change these 2 abilities everyone will just use haste/unload or backstab builds, or scorpion wire/cluster bombs.

I’m not petitioning a change to prevent thieves being able to spam a single ability, I think if the situation calls for it then that’s fine but at the moment with the way some skills are set out ‘that moment’ is every moment and frankly I find that boring to play and boring to play against.

Notice how my suggested change to heartseeker doesn’t actually prevent spamming, just makes it less effective when the ability isn’t used intelligently.

so you want to ignore the intended mechanics of the thief class cuz you disagree wit them?

Not sure where you got that from…

No. I want those two specific abilities altered to make them less spammy and more tactical.

For instance I’d like to see people using heartseeker intelligently by positioning themselves behind the enemy in a fight and doing heavy damage then melting back into the shadows.

Pistol whip just doesn’t gel well with the rest of the sword/pistol skills in my opinion so I’d like to see it changed so a thief can use them and remain mobile and of course actually start using the other abilities on the bar (I rarely see any thieves bother with 4 & 5, for instance, I know I certainly don’t except in the rarest of occasions)

in Thief

Posted by: Ickorus.4518

Ickorus.4518

I really like the concept of the thief but I’ve noticed when I’m playing and playing against a thief a lot of their damage is stuck on one single ability; I personally think this is a mistake as it just leads to thieves spamming a single ability in combat at every available moment, even I’m guilty of this as much as I try using other abilities.

We all know the two worst offenders here, Heartseeker and Pistol whip and here are my suggestions for alterations to these abilities:

Heartseeker should deal lower damage from the front but higher when behind, I know we already have a backstab ability but Heartseeker also fits this role really well; keep the increasing damage depending on target health.

Pistol whip should have a very slightly longer stun, only strike once or twice for moderate damage and not lock the thief to the floor.

I don’t think lowering variables X and Y will fix these abilities, I think they need a proper change to being them into line without breaking them.

Huge flaw in Ranger bow attacks

Ickorus.4518

As anyone who has played Ranger for any decent period of time knows if someone changes direction immediately after we fire an arrow that arrow will completely miss, that’s fine, I can see why that would happen.

The problem is, and this is something I have tested personally to confirm this is the case, if a player rapidly taps A and D so they’re constantly strafing from side to side most of our bow attacks will completely miss them, I feel that this may become a huge problem as more and more players realise this and start employing the tactic against Rangers.
