How’s about giving the mesmer spot to the ranger (when portal is not needed)? Hur hur hur…

This is not the place for a bad mesmer rant
Anyhow, I’m gonna keep my full zerk + ranger runes and opt to stack some precision. Lalalalalala…

My group usually has 1 or 2 eles but sometimes none of us feel like playing it. We arent so worried about taking a minute longer for each path especially as we dont rush to every dungeon. The runs take pretty much the same time no matter what composition we use. Casual day for me involves chatting on ts, doing some dungeon runs, maybe a fractal and taking it easy. We will often spend 5-10 minutes between dungeons doing absolutely nothing in game while deciding what to do next. Such is the way of the casual!
You forget to mention the Ruin Carousel in Borderlands!
Nooo! You must have misspelled Asura. PW is too legit on Asura Thief. I have derailed thread enough though :P
Don’t think Ele will be irrelevant after the FGS #4 is changed. It will still be a high source of DPS, Group Might/Fury, and Vuln.
The Phalanx setup seems like it could have some strong applications in longer encounters, although some group DPS numbers would be nice to see for comparison. I can’t see it being useful everywhere though. Some things die fast enough that a Might sustain is unnecessary. Some things do outlive an initial might stack and complications can make re-stacking fall through. Those sorts of situations could benefit from a Phalanx setup. The trait swap in the patch makes this entirely hassle free.
So really it’s just about picking and choosing when it’s useful. Not really any different than before except now it’s hassle free.
When FGS Rush will be nerf (if it will), there will be no more reason to stack elementalist in record runs, 1 will be more than enough.
Well, compared to a mesmer who virtually has no damage, a LH and Staff ele duo team is OP. There will be, in fact, no reason to stack more than two ele in record runs, though.

Feedback works, but sometimes the pull goes through and I don’t know the reasons to it.
Spinning warden works, stationary warden doesn’t.
Curtain at exact her position works, curtain elsewhere doesn’t.
6/4/0/0/4 is still the best for untraited wardens. They spin more often, and work flawlessly even with only two to keep 100% blocking up time.
- doranduck, 2016 on Lore in Raids
They still get aggro (dragon’s tooth) but they can still evade the attack most of the time. So I have at least 2 attacks per phantasm.

Torch abuser. Casual :<
- doranduck, 2016 on Lore in Raids
Phalanx would be nice in Fractals. Most of the time, your ele cannot keep up 25 stacks of might without being extra mindful of their own survival. Unless you are in a really good care of an excellent guardian.

Overall, a nice discussion. I have learnt a lot from all the sources. My opinion with the stealth skipping build is overkill. This is what I was instructed to use in Arah p2-Spider room with much success:
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fhAQRAsd8fl0npMtFrxRNcrNyqhcqlokSfJSAA-ThwMwAnV/Bw+DAA-e
Place Portal, swap Portal out for Decoy. After the skip, swap Decoy for Portal and use the Exeunt.
The similar build was used for the skip to Brie, but this time I would swap Veil out for Mantra of Concentration, or keep Veil if there is another mesmer :p
Regarding to Phantasm Haste, I find it excellent against the first Subject Alpha when the group has no FGS.

In fractals, survivability >> cap might stacks.
I always feel it way easier to break away from my rotation to dodge when using D/F than using LH. One prime example is against Archdiviner.
And D/F’s direct damage is superior to S/F + LH’s direct damage. The latter is often chosen because it has greater might stacking capacibilities.
Only when I can land Burning Speed every single time it is off CD plus being able to stack at least 15 stacks of might with Sigil of Battle. But it is in only a very very rare occasion when I have a good group, RNG, visibility and no latency problem.

Nuu… FGS rush isn’t what I mean, FGS auto attack has a 900 range, which is good for when you are wondering what to do when the platform around him has broken. Yeah, sometimes the aggro-man doesn’t know that he gets aggro and forgets to kite away from the boss, causing the platforms around the boss to break. That is also why I’m so against using pets and golems here, they add not much extra DPS, yet becomes a hindrance for melee players.
An alternative way is for the staff ele to always aggro the boss first and try holding it, since staff ele still has amazing DPS at range. It is worth the risk if the rest of your party has great melee DPS potential.

As Dub said, just go for D/F. It has a better range than LH (300 vs. 150), also cleaves well, one burst plus evade (Burning Speed) and a lot more CC than scepter (chill, immobilization). Besides, the attack rate is amazing against Fire Shaman boss.
I see you’re in BG. Add me to the list and I can run with you.
For some of the bosses you have mentioned, you can go with 2H staff perfectly fine, but if your group is severely lacking in reflection/ projectile blocking, you’ll be in for a lot of frustration:
1. Mossman: his Dancing Dagger bounces between targets who did not dodge, which is also a OHKO. Immobilization and chilling allows one can kite him while the rest DPS from behind. Invulnerability like Obsidian Focus is essential when he’s in stealth and relatively close to you. Slot in Earth Elemental when you need an extra tank to relieve his pressure. However, staff is slightly better at pest control.
2. Diviner: The first boss has a swing-hammer-causing-projectile attack called Cursed Grasp. You can block it with Swirling Wind. The bone fiend attack and some of the chanters’ attack are projectile as well. Especially dangerous are the chanters; they cap vuln on you quickly and kill you fast.
3. The Anomaly: if you’re not the target, you can melee him well. When the platform around him is about the break, run away from him and focus on surviving from the lightning attack. I usually slot Ice Bow if I find a safe spot to range this guy. FGS works, too.
4. Mai Trin: There are a various tactics discussed. The lazy and lame one I’m using is called the ‘sitting duck’ tactic. One mesmer who has no aggro from Horrik will stay in one side of the room and block all her shadow shot attack. The ele will conjure Earth Shield, stay max melee range and tank her in the lightning field using the invuln from skill #5. It takes two people with two earth shields to tank her alternatively once, then the group can focus on bursting her HP down. I use FGS to escape if you have troubles during the cannon phase.

I decided to give this it’s own thread, I’ll have it closed after April4th when winners are announced
Okay folks, it’s that time again:
Lilith’s Fashionable Springtime Run Challenge
Here we go!
Take a screenshot in a dungeon (something that could be, aesthetically, construed as springtime, such as TA, CM, Cliffside, etc). This screen may be edited and enhanced with photo altering programs. You can be of any race, gender, or class, but you must be dressed appropriately for the springtime weather.
Rules:
- Each account can only submit 3 entries. The winner will be the person who impresses me enough that my wallpaper becomes their submission (it’s gotta be that good!).
- It must be inside a dungeon
- It must have at least one character inside who is a part of your account
Posting Guidelines:
- Each image must be prefaced with a short description of that character or group of character’s actions. I would like this to be somewhat poetic.
- With each image, I require the dungeon, path, and how much you have progressed in that path
- Please also place the name of your character
Format:
Name of character
Dungeon name and path
Description of actions…Prizes:
The first place winner (and there can be only one), will receive the weapon skin of their choice priced at below 100g. You will receive the honorary title of Fashionable in the Spring. This will be especially nice for those of you excited for the wardrobe unlocks!Second place will be the under dog category. This will go to the character whose race, gender, class even, that is surprisingly springy. You will receive the title of Fashion Underdog (Sylvari females cannot win this category) This winner will receive one lovestruck pistol.
Third place will be the poetic category. If your story is so darn good I cry, I cheer, or I just love it to pieces, you will receive the title Fashionably Poetic. This winner will receive 10g, so that they can stop being a starving artist. <3
Entries open up as soon as I press “Post reply” and will end on Friday, April 4th at 11:59PM EST.
Anyone is welcome to enter. Please have fun with this! I want to see you all fashionably shine!

Iris of Statics and Delvert, feat. Jerem The Light
Arah, path 3
While Jerem was dancing passionately with Madam Lupicus Giganticus, Delvert decided that it is time to do a a bit of spring cleaning in the audience row. Joining him was the little miss Iris, as both enjoyed the approaching finale of Madam Lupicus’ Swan Lake under the clear spring sky of Arah.

Wow, fiery greatswords, that’s so interesting.
Can’t wait for that trash weapon to be nerfed, it’s pathetic.
I didn’t expect such harsh reaction from you. FGS Lupicus is not easy, FGS Abom is not easy and much less so with Alphard. Maybe playing ele for a change?
P.S.: Love both of you, Dub and hendo.

Hmm… my group happily gets dredge all the time. We had 3 or 4 precursor drop there before (not to me though >.>). For the bomb path, we have a dedicated thief and mesmer who would switch to war and ele for the clown car. I guess I’m just super lucky to find a regular group like that. I cannot imagine how to pug in that fractal
- doranduck, 2016 on Lore in Raids
@xsquared: totally!
@deSade: your ranger looks gorgeous with those. Why not have all ?
@spoj: I’m having the dagger and tempted to buy the staff and the scepter as well. But I already have my meteorlogicus and Kasmeer’s staff and they still fit nicely, QQ… Now I only wish for a character slot sale so I can farm the keys and buy all I want (at least 4)
@Lilith: I need your service. Which daggers of all these one would you prefer?

Howdy dungeon and fractal running fellas,
Last time when I asked for help with the Grawl Shaman boss, I received so many wonderful advises, all of which have given me various success. I feel compelled to enable this knowledge more widely shared to our elementalist community, yet at the same time not to be lost in the forgotten archive. So, I want to start this initiative where we discuss strategies against some of the most difficult dungeon and high-level fractal bosses. This discussion is encouraged to be based on our past experience, i.e. not theorycrafting, regardless of builds or weapons of choice, though they should be clearly stated. And one more thing, there will be no endorsement for unskilled practices such as safe-spot ranging or exploits (although I still think Lightning Flash + FGS works as intended). Furthermore, let’s keep this thread on topics, out of any flammation, nerf/buff complaints and off-topic debates.
The format will be discussion around one question at a time. I’ll compile the answers (as url) for that question in the front page.
That said, if you are an ele who has a healthy passion for dungeons and Fractal of the Mist, yet finds it difficult to deal with them bosses sometimes, I hope this is the place for you.
1. Grawl Shaman boss in the Volcanic Fractal :
- Some principal notes: Bubble shield is peeled by number of skill uses, which includes healing skill. At high level fractals, clearing the lava adds fast is the priority. Reflection is saved for the add phase only, so dodging the fire arrows is strongly recommended.
- Tip for camera issue when melee
- Reaper of Grenth to slow boss in melee
- Staff and ice bow when clearing adds is the priority. Not for breaking the boss’ bubble shield.
- Detailed guide for melee with D/F by DEKeyz
2. Next, how to encounter Mai Trin? This boss is extremely unforgiving to the elementalist given how:
- Her spin attack can two shot you and is difficult to see the tells under all the particle effect.
- Her shadowstep is un-dodgeable and our block has high cool down.
- Her melee range is as large as our max melee range and it is impossible to range the kitten.

- Staff build has an early access to all the necessary damage modifiers when compared to other builds. Take Internal Fire, Vital Striking and Bolt to the Heart when unlocking the first book, Pyromancer’s Aclarity and Arcane Lightning for the second book. When the OP is 60, you can unlock the third book and try out other different builds. Fresh Air and Evasive Arcana, which are pivotal to numerous D/F, S/F or D/D skills are only accessible with the third book. Another option is Persisting Flame to boost the staff damage significantly.
- Crit chance/damage is badly scaled at low level, as your starting gears only provide a small bonus of precision and no crit damage. A sub 40 will find it increasingly difficult to melee in the open world with Lightning hammer while dealing with both ranged and melee enemies. Learning how to group them up, deal damage and survive is the must. Sometimes it’s OK to stay at 600 range (not 1200) to avoid getting cleaved by mobs.
- OP can tag pretty well with staff in WvW. Take Glyph of Storm and Ice Bow for more AoE damage.
- If OP has friends to help with dungeons. You can start leech in any dungeons as soon as you hit level 30 and unlock Fiery Greatsword. A lowbie ele can be useful in providing aoe fields, might stacking and conjure weapons, even though most of your hits will end up ‘glancing’ >.>
- doranduck, 2016 on Lore in Raids
I have both human and asura eles and confirm that it is very difficult to recognize the meteor shower animation (or any, if that matters) with my asura. Asura also look ‘faster’ than norn due to the size restriction for moving animation, i.e. they move at the same speed but the size creates an illusion of small ones being faster than a hulk.
- doranduck, 2016 on Lore in Raids
(( Oh god, I have both the sword and the mace, but I have no use for ’em. I feel guilty now. ))
Edit:
@Lilith: Your ranger is always my most favorite. Love her in actions. Were I not already very fond of my ranger’s look, I’d make a muscular and powerful ranger like yours. Very original concept.
@Lind: Stereotype!! Which mesmer in the nine worlds would bring a scepter to dungeons?
And here I’m thinking of passing the anomaly to my mesmer and craft the spirit link for my ele hehehe…

(edited by Iris Ng.9845)
I stay away from a group that has more than 2 warriors. Two are already excessive.
- doranduck, 2016 on Lore in Raids
Well, at high level fractals, the aoe vuln, blind, condi removal and cc is really valuable to glassiest classes like thief and ele. Chances are the other party members already provide cleave, it’s down to staying alive a bit more comfortably at melee range to kill everything. For example, stacking against the horde of chanters in cliffside. I think necro have some unblockable attacks that works really well against some mobs like the supercharged golems in the Aetherblade fractal. They also have the flesh golem to tank pretty well. Maybe I haven’t come across a decent ranger to compare with my resident necro who is very good at her job. So yeah, my opinion is biased.
- doranduck, 2016 on Lore in Raids
I say necro contributes more to the group at high level fractals. ‘The group’ here is consider both pug and semi-organized groups.
- doranduck, 2016 on Lore in Raids
24 might stacks on a build like yours is like putting lipstick on a pig. And FGS without a wall to rush on or a large hitbox, in a pug that isn’t going to kill fast (and thus make stuff like blinkfgs kinda useless) is a bad weapon. The fact that you’re even mentioning FGS while talking about fractal 49 pugs… I’d love to hear about which bosses you corner stacked with your fgs there. I’m sure you did a lot of fgs good on archdiviner and grawl.
You don’t seem to have much in the way of damage modifiers traits so like I said, you’re trying to compare a ricer tuned smart car to a ferrari. Your build has no damage, giving it 25 might stacks and fury will not make you comparable to a guardian that actually has a damage build no matter how you slice it.I’ll stop here because any more time given to you is time purely wasted. The fact that you mentions “20k” as a big number or imply that guardians don’t have sustain.. the high frequency of 5 to 8K? you should take a look at sword auto it will be enlightening.
As smexy as ever!
