I would still like to see any evidence to support this.
You mean me? Personally, I always get one-shot it doesn’t matter pre-patch or post-patch. So I only make an assumption if what OP said is true.

Lindybear is in SEA timezone. He’s active when most of our NA folks are asleep. Poor guy
- doranduck, 2016 on Lore in Raids
Look, hun, his time is almost twice as long as that with the team comp stacking ele. It’s your lesson of the day.
I’ve heard Frostgorge Sound (FGS) is an endgame map. Of course, it IS hard for us leechitist. Imagine the pain when you have to run for your life to cross it to Fireheart’s Rise.
Vocabulary: leechitist = leeching elitist, who exploits all his connections, such as friends and guildmates, to get a spot in a dungeon or a fractal run with a sole purpose of getting the end rewards with a bare minimum participation and/or effort. The common practice is to power-leveling alts with dungeon end rewards.

Dude, I’ve told ya. The scaling system is a mysterious creature (after the feature patch). If it soothes you, you can always get your revenge in AC.
An average run of 45 mins to 1 hour at level 49 is … I don’t know, rolling eyes… and solo Arah daily isn’t a better indicator either. I have seen people who don’t follow meta, never set foot to Arah yet have done a wonderful job in fotm. I also have seen guildies selling Arah daily yet wiping the floor with their warriors even faster than my ele at a boss in fotm. So our best bet is to adapt, I suppose.
P.S.: I got my shiny backpiece when I was around level 30-ish. By the time I hit 49, I have enough to make a second and a third one as well. It isn’t a skill indicator either…

I’m thinking of a possibility to swap out Arcane Blast for Arcane Power and modify your rotation to something like this:
RtL>Updraft>Burning Speed + Arcane Wave+Arcane Power> Fire Grab (crit!!! unless missed)+ Swap to Water > Frozen Burst + Swap to Earth > Ring of Earth
At this point, I should have stacked a fair amount of condi (Burning, Poison, Chill, Immobilization, Bleeding, Cripple) and would be ready to interrupt the enemy’s condi cleanse or heal. The next Earthquake would still be under ES effect, immobilize the target and I would cast Churning Earth at about 300 range for the final touch.
All of this is just a bit of theory crafting. I haven’t tried them yet.

That skill point vet still gives me troubles even as an 80. Take the Earth Elemental to tank for you. Try to kill the adds first, then kite and dps him the last. You may want to take d/f for 2 cc/interruption, 2 projectile mitigation and an invuln.
- doranduck, 2016 on Lore in Raids
Elementalists are the King and Queen of the hardcore PvE realm. If we look at all the dungeons speedclear records, the absolute minimum requirement of a successful team setup is 2 elementalists and sometimes 3! In fractal 49/50, the most desirable team setup always has an elementalist (others are mesmer, guard, thief and war). It is much harder to play an ele in a competitive pvp setting, but most competent ele I came across can easily own a 3-5 man team in duo or by solo.
My opinion is: Try it!
- doranduck, 2016 on Lore in Raids
For leveling, I recommend D/D, which has the highest mobility and nice damage across all the attunements. Burning speed is really good for damaging structure. If you need projectile negation, swap /D to /F. Use Rocky against multiple Vets or Champ (if you solo them), or you can always try yolo with FGS.
- doranduck, 2016 on Lore in Raids
I always have strength runes on my warrior for a casual run when no ones but me happily becomes a banner bi—-.
So, last night I forgot that I had swapped out Phalanx Strength to try out the pure GS build. The pug ele didn’t do a single might stacking rotation during all the run. So while everyone complained about how dry they felt without might, I was all mad and yelling, pinging my victorious 25 stacks of Might. It was awkward to find out I didn’t have Phalanx Strength equipped during first half of the run, hue hue hue…
- doranduck, 2016 on Lore in Raids
I would sell AC p3 1 copper less than Sam in EU. +4 slots, 50% off in NA, because it’s my old turf and less leechers than in EU…
Just to say how hard AC is these days.
/swag popcorn.
- doranduck, 2016 on Lore in Raids
The nerf only irritates me at high level fractals when mobs are technically higher level than players. But dungeon wise, it has been a breeze. Every run has been faster than ever, even an ele can solo AC now.
- doranduck, 2016 on Lore in Raids
The mes is a nice idea. I have run with a setup of three mes before and could see some uses of them. They cut down the time spent on the lightning puzzle, but a thief, as demonstrated, could be faster. I don’t know * shrug *.

It wouldn’t be that hard, Mel. Everything below level 10, with an exception to Dredge and Mai, can be completed within a reasonable time. You can do it!

You look hawt, Mr. Ruse. You need a mini bear to increase your manliness.
- doranduck, 2016 on Lore in Raids
Kitten you Saint, kitten you Sander. It’s not how you should answer the OP.
1st Swamp – everything will one-shot or two-shot you
2nd Molten Furnace – everything will one-shot or two-shot you
3rd Underground Facility (Dredge) – everything will one-shot or two-shot you
Bonus Captain Mai Trin Boss Fractal – everything will one-shot or two-shot you
The reason is all the mob at fotm level 49 have higher level than you. A normal one is already level 82-83. Remember how the Risen in Cursed Shore nearly one-shot you if you’re level 75 or so and set foot there for a first time? Yeah, it works that way. The scaling system is a bit mysterious but it’s not a bug.
It is a FEATURE.

I main an ele in PvE and run an engi in PvP soloQ and TeamQ. My team often has an ele to cap mid and shuffle between capture points. From my point of view, ele is a strong team play profession, quick at de-capping and assisting, but lacks resilience for a long 1v1 fight. Every time I see an ele comes at me alone to pick a fight, I think it’s cute. The class is not omnipotent and definitely not as cheesy as a warrior or a thief but it has its role. It is not a weak class.
- doranduck, 2016 on Lore in Raids
Reading around the forum and I find it ironically hilarious. While I almost yank all the hairs on my head out worrying that I may fail my upcoming trials, others are claiming that: dungeons (pve) are too easy, ‘have no hopes’, ‘stacking dumbs down players’ skills’ and ‘speedrunning guilds spread toxic gameplay’, etc. Wow.

I congratulate every participants of this thread on all accounts. You all have done an excellent job. I have been wholeheartedly entertained and our queen has spoken:
This isnt the game you’re looking for, move along.
It’s about the gameplay. It’s about the rewards you get from gameplay. If it wasn’t I’d just play tetris. It’s fashion wars 2, baby, and I’m freaking winning it.
I hope the OP will win the bingo prize. Good job!

Lilith, you may want to step back…
- doranduck, 2016 on Lore in Raids
Umm… well, I’ve tried the build, simply because I have an extra set of runes of strength, sigils of strength and battle. It is pretty ridiculous to stack 25 might and keep it up during an entire fight in Fractals (Mossman, Asura, Grawl) or in a quick dungeon path like SE p1 or p3. Even in p3 where we AFK range the clown car, I only had to drop down Fire field with my long bow, using warhorn, FGJ, war banner, disc banner, and 22-25 stacks of might easily… I had great fun playing phalanx war in a casual run. I’m sold.

Well, OP, you haven’t broken my record of three straight weeks getting absolute nothing from the daily chest. Nowadays, even I think getting a ring is receiving a blessing. Or at least, Anet has made me believe that.
- doranduck, 2016 on Lore in Raids
Mesmer still makes a great FGS holder. After thief.
My one cent.
- doranduck, 2016 on Lore in Raids
I love my ele. She is probably the most fashionable and thoroughly used across all my characters. She didn’t even started as my main but now I’m dead set on getting all the legendaries equipable by ele for her. Has a war or a guard been my main, it would be even more expensive to gear.
- doranduck, 2016 on Lore in Raids
Any LFG that asks for AP is purely moronic.
- doranduck, 2016 on Lore in Raids
2. Crowd control: not particularly amazing in comparison to guard, mesmer or ele. War sacrifices DPS for more CC with hammer. Thief and guard can blind.
Tremor hits five targets for a two-second knockdown which can be enough to give the party breathing room.
Tremor is good against trash, as well as blind (except for dredge, but projectile blocking is OP there). Knockdown is good against the kitty golems at the Raving Asuras where Baron is the most concerned. However, mesmer and ele can stunlock him pretty easily.
3. Battle res: Rare. Rally is faster.
And what if you have nothing to rally on? You know, like some of the bosses?
I can only see Mai as one of those situations. However, if you run with equally good players, it is really not necessary.
6. Archdiviner/Mossman: why would anyone want to take a hit from them?
Because people aren’t perfect and either get lag or make mistakes. Cut the tryhard BS out, not everyone can dodge every single hit.
There you have said it. Taking hit does not benefit the group at all. It isn’t a good quality to place warrior above all other classes. Warriors are still recommended for people who have latency problems.
7. Warriors have fun at Grawl level 49.
Playing a warrior is fine for grawl @ 49.
True, it doesn’t affect personal skills. They have it fine under the protection of other classes which bring projectile blocking during the adds phase.
In the end, I just want to echo Spoj’s statement. In fractals, having the right utilities is OP.
- doranduck, 2016 on Lore in Raids
If I had to go for an ideal setup that doesn’t include swithing characters for certain fractals along the way (like bringing a thief in for dredge). I Think I’d go with one guardian, one mesmer, one thief and one of the new phalanx warriors.
Spot number five is open to discussion for me, mostly because I don’t have that much experience when it comes to elementalists or rangers in fractals for example. But from a theoretical standpoint I’d most likely go with one of those two.As usual you can substitute particular skills and utilities with those from other classes, but those usually do their part extremely well. An engineer can probably actually cover a lot of that the other classes do if you are lacking anything in particular. They can be Jack of all trades, but of course most classes will outperform an engineer in their particular field of expertise.
I’ve seen a lot of necromancers in fractals, but most of what they do the mesmer or the thief can do equally well if not better and they bring additional things to the table the necromancer can’t do. Sad as it is.As for equipment, as most already said, berserker is mostly the way to go. Though I have to admit that I like to throw in some knight in the higher levels.
The “true” fractal crowd might berate me for this advice, but I like the additional safety that comes from that in the face of screwups. And those can happen, no matter how well you might be playing.
A good ele in fractals:
- sustains themselves
- kills things fast
- makes full use of D/F and staff
- knows when to put up Swirling Wind
- stacks might
- applies blind, chill (except for 38), cripple, immobilization, weakness
- uses CC intelligently
- shares conjured weapons
- knows when to use FGS or Earth elemental
- understands the class beyond the meta dungeon speedclear

Tier 1: Guardian, Mesmer
Tier 2: Thief, Ele
Tier 3: Warrior
Tier 4: Ranger, Necro, EngiMesmer >> Guard with untraited warden, blink, portal, focus pull.
Guard > Mesmer with aegis. Why on earth is a class that can apply a good amount of weakness, CC, battle-res, perma-25 stacks of might, soak up damage on a switch in dredge fractal and take a hit from archdiviner/mossman and not be plastered all over the walls at 49 tier 3?
1. Weakness: D/F ele with Glyph of Elemental Power
2. Crowd control: not particularly amazing in comparison to guard, mesmer or ele. War sacrifices DPS for more CC with hammer. Thief and guard can blind.
3. Battle res: Rare. Rally is faster.
4. 25 stacks of Might: Phalanx war is OP. Kudos to any wars who run Phalanx in fractals.
5. Switch puzzle at the dredge fractal: group doesn’t have to take any hits if there are thief and mesmer. 7 minutes max.
6. Archdiviner/Mossman: why would anyone want to take a hit from them? Tanker and Reflection are pretty OP here.
7. Warriors have fun at Grawl level 49.
I would consider bring war to tier 2 if they are 1. Norn and 2. Phalanx.

Invites sent.
As a reminder, our guild works as a contact group. I believe each mentor has their own free time and expectation. Please read the first page for the details. Students are strongly encouraged to seek out for the mentors suitable to their needs.
At the moment, I’m looking for a solution to add an entirely separate Fractal category. Any ideas?
Edit: I have freed up the Graduate rank; Lind has helped manage the guild a lot and is promoted to Coordinator, and so is Guan. Langrim is a veteran Fractal runner and always looking for an addition to his group, he’s a Fractal mentor now. Liahm is now a meta mentor as he has been working as a trial officer of [DD].
Any mentors interested in teaching only Fractals, please speak up so I can move you to the right category

How’s about giving the mesmer spot to the ranger (when portal is not needed)? Hur hur hur…
Well why would you take a mesmer in the first place when portal is not needed?
I believe that our opinions converge. My point is, stacking two ele is still en vogue. But let’s not derail this topic into personal inquiries
