My suggestion is that arenanet should look at the suggestions forum once in a while
i feel like this thread is kind of spiraling out of control haha…
but sure, get all defensive and be fan boys. I’m sure ANet is really grateful that you guys are sticking up for them, and basically dismiss every feedback they receive. You guys should get paid for what you do, really.
well i expected people ot get all defensive
the reason why I had only compared the specific weapon group is because in reality, i wanted to compare it to league of legends.
If you had been following LoL as long as I have, you’ll notice that when the game first came out, the skills were very one dimensional. Look at Amumu, Nunu, Tristana, Master Yi, etc. Look how simple those mechanics are. Not saying that those champions are boring, but the lack of exciting skills eventually leads to getting bored of the skills.
If you compare the skills of those old champions to those released more towards when the game has started going viral, you’ll see that the skills are getting more complicated. Look at Lee Sin. Look at Hecarim, Vi, Elise.
Referring back to Pozmol’s incredibly short sighted post, he’s so used to this whole notion of ‘press this button for this debuff’ that he can’t fathom the idea that the bow skills could be more exciting than that, without having to ‘shoot fireballs.’
what about charged shot? certain attacks reducing the cooldown of another? skill shot? there’s plenty of exciting mechanics to explore, rather than ‘press this skill to shoot this arrow that applies this debuff’
With axe? ‘press this button to throw axe that applies bleed’ ’press this butotn to apply chill ’
war horn? ‘press tihs button to apply DoT on target’ ‘press this butotn to apply buff’
Short bow? auto attack for bleed, ‘press this button for stun’ ‘press this button for poison’ ‘press this button for dodge’
list goes on.
I think everyone who has done a fair ammount of pvp in this game can tell you that there are some big balance issues. I’m pretty sure if they introduced arenas tomorrow, in a week you would see all the top teams full of maybe 3-4 of the best pvp classes.
Mesmer
Theif
Ele
??? – probably anything that can throw alot of CC to set up for theif/mesmer burstWithout conquest game mode, we would see less necros (aoe not needed as much), probably no eng or ranger (yes they are capable of spike almost compareable to theif but lack survivability in glass builds) and probably no Guardian. ALthough they do still have strong CC ability and survivivablilty.
In short, I would hate for them to release arena before addressing balance issues. a 3 theif vs 3 theif arena sounds like a horrible thing to watch.
It would almost never be 3 thieves dominating in arena. Just because you think thief is good, 3 thief would dominate in 3v3’s? That’s a simple minded and a short sighted way of looking at it. Guardians would definitely have a place thanks to the great buffs and survivability (last time I checked, survivability helps you get people back up) and necros would also do fine thanks to their great survivability and corrupt boons for those darned stability.
As the title says, that’s how i feel. I feel that it’s also the reason why it’s one of the more unpopular classes.
Let me elaborate. Many of our skills are ‘press this button for an arrow with this type of effect’. For instance, an arrow that stuns, an arrow that poisons, an arrow that bleeds, an arrow that makes you jump back. Unlike many other classes’ attack skills, none of ranger’s skills really play off of each other, and simply said, are very one dimensional.
While the overall combat system in GW2 is great, I feel that the devs were not very creative in designing skills for both long and short bow for rangers.
Just my thought.
I know for a fact that ANet and most of you don’t care about my opinions but I just feel that the current long bow game play of the rangers is a little too one dimensional. I have made my own modifications of what would make the class a lot more interesting. Do let me know what you think!
attack 1 – same, with dmg increasing with longer distance.
attack 2 – fire multiple arrows at a target.
attack 3 – shoot a highly explosive arrow at a target area. the arrow blows up knocking the enemies back away from it when stepped on. triggering the ability again blows up the arrow.
attack 4 – ranger pulls back the bow to charge for an attack that goes in a linear line (skill shot). The range, damage, and the knock back distance depends on how long the ranger charges the attack for. ranger must stay still while the attack is being charged. The range, dmg, and distance have a cap.
attack 5 – hail of arrows. with a short cast time, shower the target area in a hail of arrows (non channel) that slow the enemies within the area. For every second the ranger remains in the area, the cooldown of attack 2 and 4 decrease.
glad you guys agree!
it would also make the competitive side of the game more popular, since it’s a lot easier finding a couple of good players among your friends to join arena with. Finding 4 players is exponentially harder, hence the limited number of competitive friends.
I have fond memories of playing 2v2’s and 3v3’s in WoW Arena, back when Blizz tried to balance pvp and it was part of the MLG. WoW was in a constant struggle to balance (when I quit, almost every team ran rogue-mage-priest or a variant in the top) but I think GW2 would do very well in terms of balance in 2v2 and 3v3 compositions.
What do you guys think?
‘You assumed that “many people around you” means “majority”. That’s a strawman fallacy. You also assumed that being backed by majority means it’s right, which makes for a bandwagon.’
Except a vast majority people DO want more hair styles, which is also reflected by those around me. There was no fallacy here.
‘I think of games as mediums for storytelling no different from books or movies. The creators should never bend in their vision because the fans say something different. Would you think it fair if Harry married Hermione because the fanbase would prefer that?’’
You’re missing the point completely. How can you compare a plot driven book to a video game? Obviously a company like ArenaNet should take feedback to further grow and improve as a company. That’s why there’s a forum section called suggestions. Trolls like you are so offended by the fact that someone may even suggest that they’re not doing something right that you roam around the forum, trying to nit pick at wording. The thread is about giving feedback to ANet for the hair styles for the characters in game (specifically human female) right now and trolls like you try so hard to make the opinion sound like it’s not the majority’s opinion that it’s hilarious.
‘Check the box on ’ad hominem’. Just because I am not a successful game designer with a multi million company under my belt doesn’t make me wrong’
I never said it’s because you’re not a successful game designer that you’re wrong. You’re wrong because you make stupid points and argue with reasoning ability of a goldfish.
‘So you’re a strawman riding a bandwagon?
Nice to know.’
If I voice the opinions of many of around me as well as mine, it’s ‘riding a bandwagon?’
‘If ANet starts doing things just because the majority wants it, not only are they giving up their pride in their product, but they’re also giving the implication that there is nothing that cannot be changed if enough people argue for it.’
What is this high schooler logic?
Why do you think companies take feedback from people? There SHOULDNT be anything that cannot be changed if enough people argue for it. Maybe one day you’ll grow up and face the real world, kiddo. If ANet has the same attitude as you in running their company, they would be bankrupt in a second. But there’s a reason why they have beta tests, and have a forum section called ‘suggestions,’ running a multi million dollar company, and you’re living pay check to pay check.
Just wanted to throw that out there.
Lots of the hairstyles are…. I guess you could call them elegant but I find that good looking hair styles are really limited. I’d love to see more hair styles released in the future. This is also good for ANet’s business, as more people would be purchasing hair style coupons.
Please and thank you!
Isn’t “viable” a subjective opinion to begin with? Plus they already have more hair styles than most other characters with 23 option, other characters are around the 12-20 mark, male human get 24.
Don’t get me wrong, more is better, but it isn’t fair to say that there is no options because of personal opinions.
it is a personal opinion but it reflects a vast majority of the female human players’
most of the hair styles are…‘elegant’ i guess. if you’re making a class like a warrior, there’s little option outside of those elegant hair styles except really short hair

seems you didn’t read the thread at all!
i am definitely pvp oriented. I only pvp’ed in WoW, i only pvp’ed in aion, i enjoy League of legends these days. That said, pve in gw2 is something i am looking into given the dynamic combat of gw2.
i guess if you’re a 12 year old conspiracy theorist, you could say i am a ‘mole.’ Some people are actually able to see the good AND the bad, rather than just bashing on a game or forming a religion around it.
The way that you present back-handed compliments here, I’m pretty convinced your a mole of some kind. Like Blizzard is paying you to come in here and say,“Ya, it’s great, but don’t you want more?” and disguise it as an actual player with a concern.
Take your hate out the door, your busted.
best comment of the year
fractals? no.
i was just grinding pvp (which itself was a disappointment – grinding for ranks, then buy pvp items with glory? grinding is never fun, even in pvp) until they announce further plans for the pvp. And they did, which was the paid pvp, where the winners would get paid in ticket and gem. This already spelled disaster for me, due to the unchanging pvp content and lack of match making system, so I quit. I honestly haven’t gotten past level 40 in PVE.
But it’s excellent to hear that they will be pumping out both PVP and PVE content in the near future. I’ll definitely keep my eyes open because I really, really love the potential this game has. I preordered this game for myself and probably 4 of my other friends. I’m really hoping for a good reason for us to come back.
thanks for the detailed answer. it sounds like the same ol’, really. one thing upsetting for me is the grinding it takes to get these ‘bragging’ rights in gw2. At least in other mmo’s, this grinding is in a large raid, and the ‘bragging right’ is more than a simple aesthetic appeal.
i agree with you in that it’s a fantastic game. the combat is polished, graphics beautiful, and overall a very engaging gameplay. it’s just too bad the way they set up the content kind of backfired on them in that most of these open world areas provide hardly any end game experience, though they are, i’m sure, excuciatingly time-consuming to create.
I essentially quit the game because I wanted to get into this so called ‘e sports pvp’ style that arenanet had promised didn’t live up to the standards. I recently kinda started missing the game and its gorgeous world. One of the complaints I had seen from many people is the lack of end game – that is, at max level, people didn’t really have much to do except visiting the rest of the world. Granted, the world is a lot more exciting to go back to than many other mmo’s, but at max level last thing i want to do is to help some farmer kill some bandits.
I noticed that the pvp system was improved, but still far from exciting. Did you PVE’ers have better luck with the PVE? I noticed that lots of new content was added in, but how much did the new content have an affect on the end game play?
Thanks in advance for your comments, guys.
pop the oh kitten button
in any game, if the other guy is popping every cd to one shot you, you pop every cd to survive
Because the sPVP, I felt, was such a lackluster. I wanted to come back after hearing that there’ s a new map coming out.
Is there anything else new? Are new rewards out for the Paid Tourneys? Did they remake ranger as they said they would? Any new features apart from the paid tourney+new map?
i agree as well. personally, i identify enemies because of the red name overing over them but hey, each their own right? some people play without name tags so they absolutely need the uniform
I have no issues with the gems being rewarded but 4 tickets for winning the first match seems excessive
That is, as long as you win one out of four first matches, tournament ticket wise it paid off.
Now, a part of me is happy because even if I get facerolled 75% of the time, I can continue without worrying about the tickets being the limiting agent.
But it also makes me question the purpose of tickets in the first place if you are rewarded what seems like an infinite number of tickets if you are an average team (average team meaning you will probably win half your first matches)
Any thoughts?
it’s not so much that thieves are the problem. after all, it is a team oriented pvp system and i can see how current pwhip isn’t all that great in a team match (it’s a channeled ability without any reflect)
however, it is overpowered in 1v1 situations like the one mentioned above, and 1v1 is quite frequent in the game as well.
also, updraft often has to be used defensively when the mist form is down.
they are simply having fun in the tourney and decided to share their fun experience.
they are obviously in no way arguing that this is a pro build (hence the sarcastic ‘promancer’)
so i don’t under stand why some of you are literally jumping out of your panties arguing that they were against noobs, etc.
1. sound argument. i accept that
2. i do use valkyrie’s amulet. hence the 14k hp
3. elemental is hardly a protection against a thief. especially if the guild is used
phantaram gets oneshot during quickness pwhip too.
you argue that if mist form is up, quickness pwhip is averted. but what if it’s not up?
look at these following cases:
1. mist walk not up, quickness not up => sound duel
2. mist walk not up, quickness up => death in one 5 seconds by thief
3. mist walk up, quicknessnot up => sound duel
4. mist walk up, quickness not up => again, sound duel
i believe that in no situation should an elementalist get killed without being able to lift a finger against another.
You mentioned phantaram. He runs one stun breaker: mist form. Again, because he has to run damage heavy (and heal heavy) at the cost of low hp, and no stun breaker to be viable.
1. i had it wrong, mist form is 75 sec cd
2. we cannot heal to full in water attunement. we have no kiting abilities in water attunement (except the long cd frost armor), so we can heal to a point (many a times with poison on us) while slowly walking away, and thief bashing on us from behind.
3. i’m glad you brought up our heal, because elementalist is the only class that cannot reduce the enemy’s healing. this forces us to kittenage heavy.
4. water attunement does nothing without lots of healing power, which I have. This results in further vitality and/or toughness and/or damage
5. we can’t save updraft for guild. besides, no thief uses it out in the open unless they’re bad
they did hit me with full hasted pwhip.
quickness has 45 second cd? big kittening deal. the problem isn’t the cd. no class should be able to kill another by spamming one button every 45 seconds.
Haste has a 60 second cooldown, not 45. And like i said. Mist form for a hasted a pistol whip.
1. mist form has longer cd
2. by the time you react with your mist form, you lost a lot of hp already. (and don’t give me bull kitten about how you can react fast enough to avoid any damage. that’s only possible if you react to other random stuns as well with mist form.)
3. if the first pwhip engage fails, the thief simply pops guild of thieves to stall time until next quickness pwhip
they did hit me with full hasted pwhip.
quickness has 45 second cd? big kittening deal. the problem isn’t the cd. no class should be able to kill another by spamming one button every 45 seconds.
“pistol whip has a 130 range.”
i stopped reading there. the range doesn’t affect the skill in any way.
60 sec cd defence against a spammable number 2. makes sense
any more kitten rebuttals, please?
roll an elementalist and tell me how to get out of pwhip plz
from my experience I’ve gotten more slivers from higher animal rares than lower. Personally i don’t remember getting any from rabbit rares.
I’m sure that’s bad luck on my part, just as it is on yours.
bump for knowledge!
Glad I helped! If you guys have any questions I’ll keep checking the thread till the end of today.
Btw he put a TL DR at the end of the thread which is quite useful for those of u that didn’t read his post. I was having trouble getting slivers, so this should solve that. thx for the help
you’re welcome! glad it was of help
Im disappointed in the Heavy Armor sets in the PVP locker.
The reason being when I tried them on my female human character, all the leggings became skirts + tights underneath.
I don’t really care if some armor pieces are kittenier looking than others (refer to light armor sets) but…every single heavy armor set having skirts? Some of them don’t even look right with the skirt, because you’d have thick plates on your chest, then short skirt plate leggings.
For a company that shows openness to homosexuality in its lore, it’s surprisingly leaned towards female identities as having to wear skirts
I have seen way too many people complain both on the forum and in general chat. Many of these are legit cases of just being unlucky.
However, I have seen my share of ‘omgehrd I opened 20 copper chests and no sliver’ as well.
If you’ve no clue as to how to get’em, this will be a long read but do give it some time.
it’s not so much the quality of the chest. it’s the quality of the items you get from it
I’ll use tourney token weapons as an example
There are four tiers to the tourney tokens.
1. The default ‘PVP’ weapons. E.g. PVP bow, PVP pistol etc.
2. The priory pvp weapons. E.g. Priory bow, Priory pistol, Priory Hammer, etc.
3. The vigil pvp weapons
4. The whisperer pvp weapons.
There are four tiers like this for almost every token. The dolyak token weapons include forest, flame, … well you see where I am going with this.
To create the first tier, you need 5 dusts + orb + animal/tourney token + armor/weapont oken
You have a chance to proc second tier.
With crystal you have a chance to proc third tier, with a high chance of getting second tier. You will not get first tier.
You get fourth tier if you are lucky with sliver, but will get third tier most of the time.
And that’s essentially how it is with salvaging.
If you salvage a fourth tier weapon/armor, you will have a chance of getting dust, sliver, animal/tourney token, or weapon/armor token
If you salvage a third tier weapon, you will have a chance of getting crystal/sliver, animal/tourney token, or weapon/armor token
It salvages into one of the components that you would use to craft it. So it is not possible to get orb from salvaging a third tier item like Vigil. (as a note, due to a glitch, priory/vigil hammer have a chance to give tiger token)
The reason why you buy gold chests is to increase your chance of getting a rare item, which means higher chance of sliver
I am rank 23, and I have gotten somewhere between 30~40 slivers. I have a full set of mist walker set, which is a tourney token 4th tier armor set for medium. It works for me, it will for you as well.
TL DR;
orb -> tier 1 (maybe tier 2)
crystal -> tier 2 (maybe tier 3)
sliver -> tier 3 (maybe tier 4)
salvage tier 1 item -> orb, dust, token
salvage tier 2 item -> orb/crystal dust token
salvage tier 3 item -> sliver/crystal dust token
salvage tier 4 item -> sliver dust token
it’s not so much the quality of the chest. it’s the quality of the items you get from it

you’re right. i’ll put up another link
i also think this is balancing issues yet. some skills are clearly better than others in pvp, and arenanet would encourage variety in that.
for example, wolf has AOE 2 second fear and that’s very good in PVP. the down side to this is that the wolf is the only one with this fear skill (in addition to having a charge skill that involves knocking the opponent down)
guardians are op in my opinion as well. they can be too tanky for the amount of condition removal / buff application as well.
the guy who mentioned above that rangers coutner guardian is just a terrible guardian. good ones i’ve seen keep the retal on at all times and as the fastest attackign class in the game, this is trouble.
it’s not that they’re stupidly rare, it’s that people don’t know the method of getting them and blow all their glory on garbage items
Bump in the hopes of people trying out the build
only newbs think necro is bad. if they kicked you, excellent.
necro is really the only defence against guardian heavy teams – which is quite common. corrupt boon is by far the best boon remover in the game and they’re dumb if they think necros are bad.
You’re welcome! Glad I was of help
i dont like the idea of this. to me, rank is meaningless. many pros are low ranked and many noobs are high ranked through glory exploits.
there’s already too many people acting high and mighty in spvp. visible ranks would make the community a lot more judgmental i think
excellent idea!
