Even when the changes were good
Such as?
this.
the WvW community is exceedingly toxic towards any devs that post here.
when Devon first took over from Habib he was actually very involved and posted quite a bit, however every single thing he ever said got massively kittened on so it’s not hard to understand why he stopped posting altogether.
Maybe the WvW community would be less “toxic” if we got even a tiny slice of the attention the PvEers and sPvPers get? Also that was not my experience. Maybe take a look at the old threads people dug out recently. There was no toxicity there, because everyone was optimistic about Devon’s appointment. We do give new devs a chance.
Also stop collectively overusing that phrase. It’s the equivalent of “noob” at this point.
Give me tomes for badges or give me death!
The GM trait costs are a slap in the face to sPvPers.
It’s only been asked for since day one, along with many other ‘quality of life’ improvements, but the part time intern can only work on half a problem at a time.
They announce a huge QoL update but save for Acc-WXP completely forego WvW commander QoL that has been asked for for two years.
What an utter joke.
i think duelling in open world is indeed toxic.
if you always see people fighting you dont feel the big band anymore that connects
us all, we all fight against something and if we fight against each other we loose
the feeling of building an alliance and community.if the duells are in a place where noone execpt the players who want to fight
or who want to watch someone duelling can see it its good for everyone.what i would surgest is that we get a pve/wvw duellin arena in that you can invite
someone.i like duelling but i dont like it in pvp because the numbers and builds and
the space you have are different in pvp.
in pve/wvw i have more room for my play and the damage numbers are different.
thats why i would like to see pve/wvw duelling arenas in that you have a lot of space
and your pve/wvw equip.just for example:
in the charr main city there is a big arena, if we could go there and sign up for a duell and then duell there that would be great.
there are a lot of other places where this could be implemented, so there will always be “different” arenas, some with some high and low parts, some with obstractions, some without . and you could watch the duell from above the arena and cheer for the duells.
you could even do duell turnaments, 8 players sign up and the best gets a little price .
Well I think lootbag farm trains are more toxic in the open world.
I don’t think RP reasons were ever a good one to not include a much demanded feature.
builds barricades
They’ve had this nailed down for months, but refuse to implement it because it doesn’t work on Mac OS yet.
maybe someday there will be a game where the mode we all love is the one and only focus of the devs.
maybe someday i will CU guys there…..
;)
I’d also like to come. A lot.
Yea because a thread with less than 20 posts from less than 15 different people representing less than 1% of the people who frequent this forum who themselves represent less than 10% of the people playing this game are totally the majority……
He asked about the new stuff within that year. How can one be not let down by that?
If you actually read his post instead of selectively quoting, he said “ideally, by the end of the year”. Which means it would have been ideal to get it done by then, but he didn’t say it would be.
So what he said was true, and still is. Things have happened in a less than ideal way, but that’s life.
We are already one third into a new year.
In the time frame since his post, PvEers have gotten several new semi-dungeons, a giant tower, a completely redesigned LA, more SAB, new Teq, Wurm, Marionette, Scarlet, etc.
We are not only angry at the lies, but also at the faceless higher-ups that so blatantly misallocate resources. If Devon et al got some real support from their company going, I’m sure he could so some magic on a proper time scale. It’s not primarily about the devs themselves.
Getting an honest two way dialog requires mutual respect. The amount words get twisted and misquoted it’s no wonder the devs don’t post as much as we might like. So many times I see people complaining that the devs aren’t replying, when those same people have engineered the ‘conversation’ so that the only sensible response is none at all.
So in short, grow up show some respect.
Trust isn’t free. It’s earned. There wasn’t a single update targeted at the core WvW audience since the ruins change last September — and that wasn’t very well designed.
What would be lost by merges of the small servers could be recreated if the game implemented guild alliances. You could just call your alliance “Eredon Terrace” or w/e.
I think people against merges for the lower servers live in some idealistic rosy bubble. Or only play during the 1h primetime window when there are actually enough people around.
Thread meant NA but in EU it’s even more aggravated because they have less internationals and most people play in one time zone only.
Simplest answer I can give is that it just isn’t as high a priority as other things we have been working on.
Why do you feel custom arenas do not work for those that want to duel?
I own a custom arena..
never use it.. ever.. well on monday for 2 hours on spvp night.. but other then that.. wouldn’t use it..
The whole idea of custom arena’s is great, but not if you have to pay for it.
Why not simply create a few servers with different setups.? any other pvp game in the world has a variety of pvp games, composition, gamemodes you name it.. all for free, and all used..1v1 no map rotation – 3 map rotation. no respawn time – wave/individual
2v2 no map rotation – 5 map rotation. "
3v3 no map rotation – 5 map rotation. "
etc..It really isn’t that hard to create it.
It’s just a matter of letting the custom arena stuff go.. (kill your gem store babies)
Custom arenas should have a free base version.
Just lol, thinking they need to milk their remaining 2000 PvP players. The LS gemstore sales should be more than enough to subsidise the Custom Arenas costs. It’s called an investment.
As I predicted circa 7 moths ago, it won’t happen overYEAR. Yeah. Wish I were just some cynical prick instead of a realist.
It’s true, every MMO dies, but GW2 ages like milk whereas GW1 aged like wine. I am one hundred percent certain that daily PvP numbers where higher in GW 2011 (six years after release) than in GW2 2014.
1 thread with about 50 posters = they don’t put in perplexity runes.
5000 threads with hundreds upon hundreds of posters = they won’t get rid of skyhammer.Where is the logic
This reminds me of Warlocks and Green Fire in WoW… they are intentionally ignoring us because of defiance.
I think the PvP devs don’t want to go to their higher ups and tell them that their Skyhammer was a waste of resources and they need new ones. It could cost their jobs.
Despite it being only a fraction of what they have to churn out for LS, which has a shelf life of 2-4 weeks.
I wish people would stop digging up old posts that aren’t going to be addressed!!!
It doesn’t matter anyway, the points are still just as relevant.
Season achievements were probably meant as replacement but that doesn’t excuse why the old ones aren’t, then, just removed. Or fixed for that matter.
It’s ironic that despite (or because, I wonder) gamers being probably the most cynical/jaded customer base a product can have, video game companies are allowed by far the most leniency among multi-billion industries when it comes to track record, professionalism and customer relations, as the red words in this thread once again prove.
See ya. I didn’t even realize you were the community coordinator for WvW too till now.
Upboated.
You could generalize the idea and give the players almost total control over most parameters, like letting them deactivate cap points or other map features.
Of course building the tools would require a certain effort from the devs. But ANet is experienced with outsourcing (since they apparently can’t do it in-house) so please hire a PvP studio to create the editor.
The game has 3.5 mil+ sold. Even if no non-GW2 player ever understood the mechanics, there’d be still a plenty large audience — if most were still active and the PvP were actually good.
Adding to the animations-readability (idea) versus fireworks (reality), no competitive framework, and plain lack of a good game mode:
They decided they don’t want a trinity. But then they design classes as if they were still there. Huh? Why should an ele or thief have much lower health pool and armor class in this new paradigm? Why can’t all classes be equalized in stats and differentiate themselves by their actual mechanics?
A large part of the design issues this game has stems from that alone. Eles are unusable, thiefs survive on their instagib gimmick, rangers are statswise all around worse than everyone else if you take their AI away (lol relying on AI), while warriors and guardians are always preferable, especially in WvW (and PvE).
If you remove the trinity but don’t change anything else, all you’re doing is making the heavy classes overpowered compared to the rest, which then have to rely on crappy gimmicks that make the game experience horrible to remain competitive (insane DoTs, insane spike damage, decap shenanigans, etc.)
If they hypothetically had retained the mana system (not saying they should have or shouldn’t) you could’ve atleast equalized this by making the lighter classes superior at resource management … but there is only one resource, health, and again it’s doubly buffed for heavies.

Outside the Living Story (bi-weekly updates: currently on hiatus) content additions that end up in a massive zone-wide blobby Press-1-to-win scenarios, the game world is dead, OP. I’d be surprised if you stay active for longer than 2 months.
Buying gems 2013 onwards.
OP you can get a refund.
I actually like your idea of quite literally “holding the line” to be an effective battlefield force very, very much.
With fields like this they could also include more pulsating ones.
It’s just not the focus of this company. If you want a game developer that cares about RvR-style gameplay you need to, well, switch games. Just a few days ago one where that is the case released. Others are on the horizon.
I suggest a switch.
Playing it internally, we’re all paying more attention to taking notes, writing up bugs, and whatnot. When I first hit this on my personal play account, on my home server, I stood around…and as you all say…was overwhelmed right in the feels. I love working with this team!
Dude, having something as work and hobby at the same time would kill me.
If I were working for GW2 I’d go bearing or fish hunting in my off hours. Atleast that’s what I imagine is a proper pacific northwest pastime.
WvW-ers have the OS.
I’ll sit here and let you ponder for a few minutes why OS definitely is not a replacement for duelling in WvW.
PvE only players shouldn’t care much.
Nice of you to speak for a multi-million crowd. Do you desire the PvEer presidency, milord?
There’s no reason for 2 and 3 to team up against 1 because one party of the two gains nothing by it. They would just help their more immediate competitors secure a (even larger) lead over them, while their difference to Nr 1 decreases only relatively at best.
Ergo, 2 and 3 cannibalize each other over place 2.
Seriously. It’s not hard to figure out. This works only in a system where the parties can also actively lose points, but ANet decided for some mysterious reason (probably the same that explains all their other questionable game design choices) to use a scoring mechanism that makes underdogs vs leader completely infeasible.
Whatever it is, I’ll be enjoying the trainwreck.
The PvE area is coded to be non-competitive. You’re talking about redesigning a huge section of the game, not simply comparing statistics.
Costume duelling works fine though.
I’m going to give you the benefit of the doubt with regards to realizing they’re not the same thing.
And your argument why they aren’t similar in the context of the open world is?
I’m in favor of this idea.

A big NO to armor and stat info. That’s no different than asking for an /inspect feature for dungeons. It becomes a mechanic to promote discrimination, elitism, and exclusivity (i.e Commander screaming: “Stop following me, you rally bots! Get some real armor and real skills before you enter WvWvW!”). Nope, nope, nope, and nope. I’m a commander, myself, and there’s no way I would want this ability in the game.
Ummmm, are you saying a commander doesn’t already see whether his followers are uplevelled and running around in trash gear?
Nice strawman!
Nice use of term most of you don’t really know.
I neither distorted the original point of the argument nor hyper inflated the point. I merely pointed out that in most mmos with open world dueling it comes down to high levels fully buffed requesting duels repeatedly from low levels. I did not claim all of them do it, nor did I claim that duels in their entirety are bad.
You do not know what a strawman argument is judging by your response. It has nothing to do with distorting original points or hyperinflating others.
You attacked some fiction of PvPers you created in your head. You attacked a strawman.
It’s a really boring rheotircal “technique”, you know. You can so very easily dismiss it. It’s like saying all PvErs are braindead achievement grinders. Which of course isn’t true and doesn’t even warrant a serious response. Which is the reason why you’re getting ignored in this thread.
Seems reasonable to me. They are trying to encourage more players to go into PvP.
It is hard to advertise yourself as an E-sport when only like 0.01% of your players have ever actually PvP’d.
I don’t see how that logically follows from what we were discussing. PvEers don’t play no PvP because they found the rank emote grind so bad, but because they don’t like the PvP.
If we assume that a match at average takes about 10 minutes, that means 10940 minutes for those tPvP matches, which is about 7,5 DAYS constant playing. I would say that is absolutely enough.
It’s ~180 hours.
Which means someone who plays a paltry 1 hour tPvP per day will get the very highest rank within 6 months.
Someone who plays 6 hours a day will get Dragon starting from a brand new account in just one month.
It just went from being an object of prestige and skill (atleast that is what it was supposed to embody, judging by GW1) to just another carrot from a achievement checklist.

On Elona:
Indeed. The only presence MENA regularly gets in fantasy is as an exotic (i.e. non-central) desert setting with turbaned camel herders adhering to vaguely Islamic beliefs.
Nightfall is sincerely the only fantasy video game that I can think of that made a believable, non-clichéd rendition of MENA and African culture. It was a fresh splash.
Sigh, I wish we got another company with the creative force of ANet circa mid-00s.
The problem with trousers is, basically one design fits it all. And they’re hidden beneath buttcapes.
They’re just boring. With flowing dresses and skirts atleast the designers can get creative.
I’d like to see something along the lines of Viper Leggings or Vigil Leggings for light armor on Females.
That’s not pants. It’s underwear and stockings.
In the UK it’s pants.
We gave the exact same feedback 2 years ago. The PvP in this game will never change. I see zero willingness on the developer’s side to do that.
The OS etiquette:
-Don’t interrupt duels at the duel spots, or finish a downed foe who was clearly involved in a duel
-Don’t grief GvGs
-Don’t spawncamp
-Don’t expect people not to attack youYou fourth rule runs counter to your first two.
No, since the (you meant to say first three) rulings supersede the last one. Law 101.
Just wanted to call some attention to this thread.
It is confusing for me to see this kind of mixed messaging. A ton of people agreed in that thread that there are too many moving parts in this game to balance it well enough. Now you guys are in here saying that removing jewels equates to dumbing the game down.
Can you guys do me a favor and try the game out after the features are in the game before assuming removing this is going to ruin everything?
Why don’t you just ask people instead of trying to do what boils down to reading tea leaves? Don’t you have an invitee balance forum anymore?

Why? Because most of you will not be fighting friends. You will be bugging PvErs. Thinking you are hot stuff when you take out a Ranger who just started playing with your 80 fully buffed with food, sigils, stacks and runes Thief. Just like in WoW. Nothing but Rouges and Ice Mages running around challenging low levels in front of Orgimmar.
Instead of playing Stat Wars with your insanely buffed builds. Go to the mists and actually try out PvP. Where you can not buff your health to 30k due to food and stacks on sigils, or a attack value of 4k. Learn to play in Spvp with lower stats and you will not even need those things for roaming in WvW.
Nice strawman!
So you sacrificed trust with PvPers for PR with PvEers.
Disgusting. Just shows where the heart of neo-Anet beats.
And don’t for a second think this was just a forums-thing. Every single PvPer in the actual game was disgruntled by the removal without replacement.Playing pvp without rewards is crappy, but leaving the old rewards in-game would only hurt the value of our pvp-unlocked skins.
What has that to with what I wrote?
