Makes no sense. I have a group of peeps I play with every night, and none of them are getting this. Yet, I just played an hour of Street Fighter IV with no problems whatsoever. Possibly a conflict between GW2 server and my ISP?
I’ve run speedtests, played other MMO’s, and everything. The problem is not on my end as far as I can see. Every time I hit a skill there is a 1/2 – 1 second delay before it activates. The game is pretty much unplayable like this. I’m not complaining. I just want to see if anyone else is experiencing this tonight.
I have been playing with the meta build off and on for a couple of months now. I understand the rotations, the need to break rotations, interrupts, cleansing w/ cantrips/water attunement, how to stack might, etc. – but I cannot kill anything. All the studying in the world isn’t helping because of how long it takes for me to get set up. These are usually the scenarios that happen to me when I’m in a 1v1 encounter:
- It’s a burst class, and I’m killed before I can get through any part of my rotation. Can’t get might stacks, can’t do damage, and breaking my rotation to play dynamically just causes even more problem. This is especially true vs lb ranger & s/d thief.
- It’s a bunker build, and I can’t damage him. I get might stacks up, position correctly, but nothing does enough damage to burn him down.
It seems the only place I’m able to have any success is in a 2v2 situation because I cause so much chaos. However, I usually get cc’d in that scenario (even after I cleanse out of it) and beaten down. All the wins I’ve seen in videos make sense until I try those strategies myself and fall on my face. I’m really frustrated. I keep hearing how powerful this build is, andI like the jack of all trades aspect of this class so much, but I feel like I shine in no situation. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks!
PS – Here is the build I’ve been using: http://metabattle.com/wiki/Build:Elementalist_-_Dagger/Dagger

It’s kind of silly that we don’t already have this option. I think we can all agree this is a QoL update that is overdue. Just my thought.
So, I’ve been reading in map chat all day that ANET confirmed longbow for Guardian in HoT. Is this the true?

Hey guys. What is the best way to make gold w/ the following “currencies”:
- Laurels
- Skill Points
- Karma
- Badges of Honor
- Guild Commendations
- Fractal Relics
I appreciate any/all advice. Thanks!
I left right as the Living Story 2 was coming out to play other games for awhile. Having returned, I am wondering a few things…
- My world completion is now at 99% due to them adding something. Where do I need to look? I have a needle in a haystack situation here.
- Have there been any significant changes to SPvP & WvW? It seems like I got an email a few months ago about something like this.
- The marketplace looks way different now. Is that just an aesthetic thing? Was anything improved?
- Are people still farming Cursed Shore events?
- What’s up with the new dailies?
- Is lifesteal necro still a joke?
- I heard something about a new class (possibly a Shadowknight). Are these just rumors?
I appreciate any and all advice/comments. Thanks!
Thanks again for all the replies. This has been a very helpful discussion thus far. So if I were to migrate away from the Dervish idea, would Warrior/Necro be viable? I’d like to play a melee class with life taps akin to EQ’s Shadowknight or WoW’s Blood Deathknight. What would best accomplish this, or is this just not a realistic idea in GW1?
I have the Trilogy which has them all. I just wanted to play through the first game (Prophecies) as a Dervish. Is this impossible?
Thanks again for all your help guys! I have one more question: To start as a Dervish, I have to start in the Factions campaign. Is there a way to start the Prophecies campaign with the Dervish class?
I must say, not being able to spin the camera with a left mouse click while running to see what is behind me is pretty terrible. Otherwise, digging it so far.
This is all very encouraging. I’m going to go ahead and make the purchase. I don’t mind the complexity behind Dervish. I’ve been playing MMO’s since Ultima Online, and usually prefer the more complex classes in games. Plus it wields a freaking scythe! So for soloing, you guys are saying that Ritualist would be an ideal secondary profession?
Thanks guys! I just downloaded the trial. A couple other questions:
- Can I solo through all of the content in this game?
- Dervish looks like a lot of fun. How is this class in general? Does it solo well?
I never played the first Guild Wars game, and I’d like to go back and try it out. A few questions:
- Is there still a community, and is it still worthwhile to go back and play?
- Is there some kind of combo pack I can buy that would have the game and all of its expansions? If not, what all do I need to buy. I looked at the website, but with no reference point it is a little confusing.
Thanks!
Hello all. I’m curious as to the benefits of zerging the old WvW maps over EoTM. I seem to get more of everything (chests, ranking, etc.) from doing EoTM. Am I missing something? I understand that some people prefer WvW for things such as world completion, server standing, roaming, and small group play, but I’m speaking from a pure zerg rewards standpoint here. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks!
Arena Net. AC has bugged 12 out of my last 14 attempts. NPC’s just freeze. Are you serious?
Before you ask, I have over tons of AC completions and DM title.
TL;DR: Wuh happuh’nd?
In your opinion, what profession/build is the best for soloing “higher difficulty” PVE content? This could be soloing dungeons, champions, large packs of veterans, etc. This is not a question as to which class farms the fastest, quests the quickest, or roams solo in WvW the best. Please assume equal gear & skill in all scenarios. Thanks!
…to have a shot at getting two of the Mist-forged Hero weapons? I am just getting back into the game after a very long break, and there are a couple of these I really like. Being that the tournament is winding down I’m not sure that acquiring these is a possibility for me. How much WvW participation would it take for me to farm the 600 tickets it would take to pick up two of these bad boys?
I hardly ever post on the forums, but I had to voice my frustrations this time. I’ve played every class in the game (pve & pvp) extensively. I started this game as a necro main and eventually ended up moving to guardian (my main now) solely because making a solid synergetic build for necro is nightmare versus the other classes. I appreciate the tweaking that ANET did this time, but the biggest problem is that our traits are all over the place and there isn’t a whole lot of logic behind how they are setup. The minor behind-the-scenes mathematical fixes are fine, and I apologize for the negative tone of this post, but I feel that the core issue has been severely overlooked once more. I would really love a good reason to play Necro again.
0/10/0/30/30 works w/ staff as well as D/D. I love this versatile little build, and highly recommend it.
This question is for PVP, SPVP, & WVW. Since D/D is such a hybridized style of play, this armor-type seems to fit perfectly. I use it in SPVP now with good success, but I was wondering what everyone thought before I buy an exotic set for PVE/WVW. Thanks in advance!
Completely agree with the OP, and FOR THE LOVE OF GOD… Guardians start wearing armor and push F to loot every now and then. Breathing also helps you keep from passing out at your keyboard.
Why does Knight’s give toughness in PVE but vitality in PVP? Please explain.
So I my character is completely geared in exotics, so pretty much done w/ stats minus ascended gear. I have some laurels saved up which got me thinking… Should I be buying ascended items w/ offensive/defensive slots or utility? The magic find would be nice for day to day stuff, but the other is needed if I want to do fractals. My question to you guys is which do you think I should get first?
Is there such a thing as this? (Level 80) I have researched, but cannot find. If so, where do I get it? If not, is there a berserker back piece, and where would I get that? Thanks for your help!
So, I am just getting my guardian up to 80, and I can’t decide between these two. I run a very crit-intensive AH build (0-0-30-30-10) using mostly GS & Staff. I plan on doing everything the game has to offer. I’m not obsessed w/ DPS, so I was leaning towards Knight’s to give me the balance I am looking for to survive while still letting me run support & keep crits coming for more might/vigor buffing and AH heals. I’ve also heard some people run a mix of the two. Would I be better off going in that direction? Say, Knight’s armor w/ Berserker jewelrly? Any advice is very appreciated.
That isn’t really what the thread was asking, but thanks for the input! I agree you shouldn’t play a class that bores you or play a class just because it is popular. Anyone else have an opinion on the best overall solo professions/builds?
From my experience & research, I’ve learned these are best:
Minion Master Necro
AH Guardian (Also awesome for group play)
Shatter Mesmer
D/D Elementalist
Any thoughts? This is for both PVE & PVP.
Completely agree. It’s ridiculous that this feature doesn’t already exist.
-bump-
9/10 Thoughtful and phonetically pleasing.
My Sylvari Necromancer: Witherius
I have a minion build that I’m very much loving for questing, spvp, and general roaming/soloing. My group experience in GW2 however is quite limited. Is there a way to make minion build work in dungeons, or will I need to head back to the drawing board to find a build that will be excepted in parties? The build is based on power… not condition damage. Any advice is much appreciated. Thanks!
I’ve been thinking of using a staff as my off-weapon to give my build a bit more variety. While looking at the skills though, I noticed a lot of the damage is condition-based. Are staffs suitable for player outside condition builds? Say for power or crit? Keep in mind, this will not be my main weapon. Thanks in advance!
See subject line. It’s awesome. I love it. Don’t change anything (except maybe Scepter #1 projectile speed).
Sincerely,
Satisfied Gamer
Any other thoughts?
What activates this sigil? It does not specify. I assume it’s crits just because the rest of the similar sigil are. Can anyone confirm?
This question is more towards tackling tougher content solo. Not who farms/levels the fastest. Your thoughts?
Agreed, but if you were going for that condition-style route wouldn’t you be better served foregoing dagger in your mainhand for scepter? It seems like it has better synergy.
I am really big on aesthetics in MMO’s, and I love the look of dual daggers. I see on the forums a lot of people making builds that center around D/D. I just can’t see how it works better than a focus in the offhand. Dagger 4 & 5 skills are centered around conditions which seems to have better synergy w/ the Scepter mainhand. The focus has a chill which helps you keep enemies in melee range and a regen which is never bad. I really want to use dual daggers, but just can’t see how it would outweigh dagger/focus. I’m interested to hear everyone’s thoughts.
Blackgate has been waiting on the Skritt skillpoint in Queensdale to be fixed now for two weeks. I have posted this in the Bugs forum several times to no avail. Could you guys please fix this? I’d really appreciate it. Thanks!
It has seriously been unobtainable for over a week now. Please fix this. Thank you.
Has anyone had success w/ this weapon loadouts? I am looking for a build that utilizes these weapons and is versatile enough to work in pvp & pve. Any ideas/advice are appreciated. Thanks!
You don’t get a new set of cooldowns when you swap if you aren’t using a different weapon. You’d be wasting 2 slots by not having something on your offhand.
Bah. That kind of hurt my d/d build idea I’ve been working on. Thanks for the info though.
Does the movement speed from the trait at least stack w/ the passive from the signet?
I’ve been trying since beta to make a build that is not focused on damage, but life-siphoning melee. The idea would be something a bit tanky and obviously not set on dps whatsoever. I wanted survivability in pvp & pve similar to that of traditional blood/shadow/death knights in other mmos. The obvious choice for mainhand was dagger w/ either focus or dagger in the offhand. Both have given me severely lacking results when paired w/ every single trait & skill combo I can think of. I’ve studied builds from forums & put them to use. I’ve theory-crafted my own builds. I cannot make this build idea work whatsoever, and it is ruining my fun. The healing given from health-drains is practically nothing when compared to the damage you take. I don’t want to play a glass-cannon to have a chance at pvp in this game. I love the idea of attrition and simply outlasting your opponent, but it appears this has no place in this game. Has anyone else had different results they would like to share on this particular build-type that might ease some frustration? Thanks in advance.
Great. Thanks for the quick reply!
Both remove 1 condition every 10 seconds. Do these effects stack? Thanks.
Also a great post from a hardcore raider’s perspective here:

Thank you for this. It was an excellent find, and a great read.
