Hey gang. I just leveled up an elementalist (which I am absolutely loving by the way) with the intent of taking him to raids as a dps, and I’ve got a question. Am I safe to go ahead and make an ascended set of berserker gear, or should I wait to see if the new meta is going to shift towards the new grief gear (power/prec/condi/ferocity)? I’d like to gear him up now, so he’s not sitting on the bench till PoF, but if it is a better decision to wait, I’ll do so.
Rune of the Trooper’s shout effect does not seem to be working w/ “Your Soul is Mine”. Is this a bug or working as intended? It seems to work with the other shouts.
The correlation isn’t fully causal. I will say that spamming daily fractals gives you funds to make your characters look a lot better, but that is certainly not the only way make said funds.
I respectfully disagree. They are one of my favorite parts of the game.
I’m sure this has already been asked, but why do we not have customizable preset loadouts for gear, traits, and skills? I change these constantly depending on what type of content I’m doing, and it takes forever. Are plans for this in the future?
I know this will probably be met with a large amount of opposition, but I just don’t like DH. Prior to HoT, Guardian was my favorite class in any MMO. I honestly thought it was perfectly balanced and great to have along in any content. I feel like DH turned us into something completely different than the design philosophy of the core class, and the power creep has made taking DH become pretty much expected of all Guardians.
So how have I dealt with this? I still main core Guardian. I play a shout support build for most PVE and zerg WvW and meditate build for sPvP and small group WvW (though I hardly sPvP anymore). I am still having a lot of success having cleared all Fractals 1-100 (quite easily). However, every now and then I run across players who freak out when they don’t see the little arrowhead next to my name.
I guess I am just wondering if any of you other Guardians feel the same way or have had similar experiences. Don’t get me wrong. I know DH is great and that a lot of folks love it. It just isn’t for me.
Hey there! I was thinking of starting a Druid and thought it might be fun to try a flexible build that could do good damage and drop into support as needed. I really like the idea of GS and Staff together. This is mostly for things like Fractals and Open World (not dedicated raid healing) Any thoughts?
It is absolutely worth getting into. The cool thing for you is that you’ll be starting the game fresh and experiencing all the things that are old-hat to us vets for the first time. This MMO is unlike any other. My first playthrough of the world map was one of my favorite experiences in MMO gaming (or gaming in general, for that matter).
This is not a game like WoW where you feel like you are being left behind all the time. The endgame treadmill has been pretty much removed from this game (comparatively speaking). Since that is the case, the game is very inviting to newcomers even this far along in the game’s history.
Do yourself a favor – Take it slow. Complete all the maps for fun. Explore the world. Try a bunch of classes. Try a bunch of builds. Find all the jumping puzzles. Try sPvP & WvW. This game is seriously a departure from the rat race that most MMO’s push on people, so you won’t miss out on anything by taking your time.
Oh, and stay the hell away from BDO. That game is toxic. (Source: Beta tested and played to endgame at launch in a large guild)

Hey gang. I haven’t played since a few months after HoT release. I logged in yesterday and have begun trying to re-acclimate myself to everything. I have Fractals cleared up to 75 and some beyond that mark. Are there certain Fractals I should do each day to optimize my rewards? Should I just do the dailies? Also, does 150 AR still suffice to get me into everything? I would appreciate any advice on these questions and anything else you think a returning player such as myself should know. Cheers!
Gotta say that I disagree. I thought the patch notes were hilarious. They are the top topic in the subreddit.
Logged back into FFXIV.
Sounds expensive.
$12/month isn’t expensive. LoL
You’re all missing the point.
The problem is not the disconnect, the problem is that when you DC or crash you lose everything, your map, your rewards, your time, all for nothing.
This is actually ruining the game since the expansion content depends on people staying in the maps for large periods of time, often several hours. In such a system there must be a way to preserve progress because if something can go wrong, it will go wrong, that’s just the nature of life. Always better safe than sorry.
Maybe I have a slow computer?
Maybe I have a bad internet connection?
Maybe I crash from out of memory on the 32-bit client?
Maybe the game had a bug?
Maybe there’s a power or net outage? Please stop assuming everything is okay for everyone and add mechanics to keep your map slot and participation for a short time. Its really neccessary.
This. Why was anyone confused?
…played 45 minutes in the DS meta. Got d/c’d after 45 minutes (net connection was fine; all other net programs kept working). Finally got back in to no rewards. No thanks ANET. Fix your game. Logged back into FFXIV.

I agree with your points, and I dislike the raid system in this game presently as well. However, you have to remember that raiding in WoW didn’t start w/ a LFG tool. Raiding in WoW has evolved heavily over time. I suspect (or maybe just hope) that this will be the case with GW2.
It’s good, but I personally think FFXIV’s story kills it (and every other mmo’s for that matter).
Just dont eat the bacon….i hear it is iffy at the moment
Well played. #auricbasin
This game has such a fantastic community. Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
Two Rangers in a party is completely fine, especially if one of them is a Druid. Any party that would kick you guys for that is a party you wouldn’t want to join anyway. Also, if your wife can manage to make it through 80 levels of Guardian, I think she would really like Dragon Hunter. It is a light-based ranged bow class with traps. Not exactly an elemental bow as you mentioned, but about as close as it gets considering that your attacks all passively burn mobs. Hope this was helpful. Welcome to GW2!

My old-school meditation guard is doing just fine.
Hey there. I also main Guardian and Necro. Opinions are pretty polarized on DH right now, although the vocal majority seem to think it is very OP. In my opinion, it has its place in PVE and is a good noob-killer in SPVP. I honestly still prefer old-school medi Guardian for SPVP though. I have not come across a single DH I have lost to on my old build which probably means one of three things is going on. 1. DH is not nearly as OP as people are saying, 2. DH is OP which is causing many unskilled players to flock to it and thus get wrecked, or 3. old-school medi Guardian is a good counter to DH. Either way, the only place I really use DH is for fractals, since the AoE of traps is hard to pass up. Your mileage may vary. Happy hunting!
I am going to try a mix of knight’s and cleric’s tonight. I will post results.
Hi there! I’ve tanked the new raid. It’s nowhere near as hard as people make it out to be. You need two things.
1. The highest toughness in the party (for threat generation)
2. Enough mitigation to survive (you can do this with minimal toughness)
As you can see, the irony is that the toughness you need is less about survival and more about threat generation, because of this game’s lack of threat generation skills. I don’t think that is a bad thing though. Anyhow, to answer your question, you can absolutely tank in exotic soldier gear – quite easily. Happy raiding!
P.S. Hypothetically, if you could hold threat, you could face-tank the Vale Guardian w/ a hammer in full zerker gear. :p
First off, Blood Necro is awesome at soaking up damage in raids. If you can get threat, you can facetank stuff. The problem is just that… threat. It appears that threat is based on armor rather toughness. As such, it’s tough as a cloth class (even w/ high toughness) to hold threat. Anyone tried this out w/ results they could share?
I played thieves 100% and you make me reach enlightenment and know how foolish i am well nothing matters anymore i will just accept it and move on like an enlighten monk
Edit:Typo

I haven’t done the raid yet, but for those who did and used a guardian as tank – did you feel that you need the toughness for survival or just for aggro? If it is mostly for aggro can one get away with using full zerk but with toughness infusions and/or toughness consumables?
Aggro only. Especially if you use hammer. The problem is that without high toughness, you stand no chance of holding threat unless you are in an organized (and honest) group.
Thanks for the replies, guys!
I honestly don’t care much about optimal at this point, as I play this game 100% to relax and have fun, not to win any contest or be that one toon that stands out. I do try to play to the best of my ability, but a typical game session for me translates to “wander the map for x hours and do hearts/vistas/POI, maybe an event if I happen to be in the vicinity”.
Yes, I am that boring. My job is stressful and I need a counter for that. I’m also getting to the point where I can consider myself one of the older crowd and my twitch skills are beginning to deteriorate, so high-maintenance classes are more of a chore to me than actual fun.
Note: I don’t expect to be able to faceroll anything.
I’m more looking for ease of play.
I’m going to give the Guardian/DH a try, thanks again for the answers!
I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised. Happy hunting!
Hey guys. I have a set of Knight’s armor already built, and I was thinking of trying my hand at tanking the new raid with it (using mostly hammer for melee). My only concern is the low hp on the knight’s armor, so I was thinking of pairing different types of trinkets with it. Do any of you guys have a good feel for what a comfortable hp level would be for raid tanking?
Does each person get his/her own loot? What can drop? From strictly a rewards perspective, is there any reason to do raids over other content?
DH can still bring almost all (if not all) the utility old-school Guardian brought while still having respectable dps, so I don’t see why not.
Well I think it would be hard for a ranger to give up some LB skills. DH has a good set imo as well but the feel to each is quite different. DH puts everything in single punches where Ranger has more defensive options.
In PVE DH is by no means the higehs DPS choice but a fun one that still can bring some hurt.
I moved to DnT condi guardian build yesterday, tweaked it a bit to my likeing and its pretty sick.
so if you want to shine in pve he longbow is not that of a good choice if you plan on camping it.
I respectfully disqgree. If built right, DH has excellent LB dps. Also, the burst that traps offer is pretty incredible.
I have both classes fully unlocked at 80. The short answer to your question is yes. Dragon Hunter can be a ranged powerhouse. We even have a trait in the DH line that gives you more damage the further you are from your target. Give it a try.
Would it be too much to ask to be able to see the cooldowns of your utility skills while in death/reaper shroud? I don’t think it would be OP by any stretch of the imagination, and it would certainly be useful.
I understand that ANET has to make money (believe me, I’ve given them plenty), but 400 gems for one bag slot for one character is crazy. I think the fair thing here is to make bag slot purchases account bound.
As I understand, Druids are the kings of out going healing these days. I am curious how well they do with self healing. Is their sustain/damage ratio good? How well do they perform when soloing tough mobs in open PVE maps? Better than standard ranger? Any thoughts are appreciated!
You keep the passive. The active changes to pulse Burning on whomever you have tethered. It’s pretty easy to test for yourself
That makes more sense. Got it. Thanks for clearing that up.
So, no burning on hit w/ Spear of Justice? That’s pretty lame. Why would they give a pulsing near-body aoe to a ranged spec and take away the on-hit burning?
If I take DH and thus get Spear of Justice over Virtue of Justice, will I still the burning per every so many attacks? Is the 6 second pulse that burns enemies near me (in the skill tooltip) in addition to the per-attack-burn or does it replace it?
In my experience, d/d ele, medi guard, and blood necro seem to be the best for soloing tough mobs like hero point champs. What do you guys think?
What do you do with that condition damage from celestial in PVE though? Torment doesn’t seem so great outside PVP.
So far, so good. Just hit level 80, but dinged into a full set of ascended gear (leftovers from guard). I’m interested to see how well we can solo difficult content (i.e. champs, dungeons).
Character: Solstius (Asuran Revenant)
Likewise. I interrupt well cast with a dodge, and the well goes on full cd without ever casting.
Hey guys. I just started a revenant, and I am loving it. I am curious though, what do you guys use in group situations such as fractals for AoE dps? Are hammer skills the best option? Staff cleaves, but the damage is pretty lackluster with it being a support weapon.
Speaking for PVE, I would think that a mix and match of other gear that gets you a bit more power without any condition damage would work much better in a hybrid type build. Maybe a mix of knight’s/berserker’s/cleric’s?
(edited by Jarvis.9540)
Hey guys. I am big into classes that have a high level of self-sustain. I love doing things like soloing champions and dungeons as well as being the last man standing in a group fight that goes fubar. How well would you guys say Revenant stacks up to the other classes in this regard? My main right now is necro (though I have 7 80’s) mostly because I love all the sustain it has. All thoughts are appreciated!
So, my bar says 5,000 xp to level, but when I kill stuff or take a point I get multiple thousands of xp. Where does that xp go? Is it scaled down or something?

The added quickness needs to work with the Ritual of Life trait the same way that the protection from the Vampiric Rituals trait works with it. Please patch when you get a chance. I love this rune. Thanks!
