They should rename the game to QQ2 cos everytime Anet does something people asked for (account bound dyes), people find something to QQ about it.

90% zerker build with some cavalier
I mostly roam in wvw but I run with zerg as well from time to time. I don’t change my build for zerging, imo, even in full PVT gear, your passive defenses are subpar to other classes.
Zerging is pretty fun, cluster bombs down so many people and dagger storm hits like truck as well but I am a toast really fast if many people focus on me. We lack stability for effective zerging, not extra armour.
Well I just transferred to T9 Euro server Vabbi to see how things are here. The WvW is pretty good actually but the PVE areas like Gendarran Fields Vigil quite are VERY empty. I only saw 1 other person next to the bank. Compare this to T1 Euro Server Seafarer’s Rest. At least 10 people near the bank area on the same map same time (I guested).

Most are very predictable, they try to backstab just before their stealth ends, so try to either evade/dodge or c&D off them.
Half of d/p thieves kill themselves by jumping into my cluster bombs I shotgun under my feet. One of the reasons I prefer sb to other sets.
Keep moving to make landing backstab harder.
Use mobs as a meatshield (if there are any around) for same reason as above.
If the thief stacks stealth, you can try to hit him in his bp, sword’s range is enough if you stand just outside bp.
Best to attack him in the short window when he just got revealed. C&D + steal usually takes 30%-50% of his HP, and daze from sleight of hand prevents him to use bp again for a while.
You can try d/p for just couple of hours, I find it a lot easier to fight classes/builds that I tried myself.
If you find yourself fighting a thief that just stacks long stealth to keep his HP at 100% and then attacks, then just walk out from there. No point wasting time, imo.
Dagger storm 95% of time for the reflect, works great against certain classes/builds. I don’t need to fight some warriors, they just shoot themselves :P Also dagger storm in middle of any larger group fight hits like truct with a zerker build.
Very rarely I use basilisk, usually against other thieves. I don’t use lyssa runes so I don’t need BV for the cooldown.
TG only when I was leveling, in WvW maybe against a heavy class player that I want to aggro or they use the hounds elite. I consider TG to be kinda cheesy so I don’t use it in agreed duels.
I am not entire sure why so many people see this as a bad idea. On lower tier servers, this concept would be great.
Yes, there are some players that wvw during off-peak hours too, having EB running 24/7 would still allow them to play.
I have two accounts, EU and NA, 1. cos I have friends in US and 2. cos I don’t wanna do pve ONLY during night in wvw. I play wvw for the pvp side, not just flip camps and get points. Ever tried wvw in T9 during late night hours? It’s BORING.
Due to this kittened ppt system, Vabbi is considered dead, eventhough we often dominate other servers during prime time. Come back in the morning, and other servers are 20k ahead. You can say “play for fun, not ppt” but most people are discouraged by losing to overnight coverage, they simply transfer or don’t play as much.
The problems I see with this suggestion are:
1. Anet would have to determine which servers are suitable for this and keep eye on servers’ population. Too much work for Anet.
2. Determine what hours are “hardcore off-line”. On Vabbi we have enough people during the day, it’s the 1am-7am lack of people that kills the ppt.
3. Some people just don’t like EB.

Plus only a few people really care about PPT anyway. Most just want to have good fights whenever they play.
That’s why I like his idea, it would actually make fights possible during late night hours Currently all I can do is flip a camp and hope that maybe someone comes there to flip it back.
I know this won’t be implemented, since it’s too much to do for Anet and since players from higher tiers think that what applies to wvw on their servers, works same for the low ones too.

Just try few of the mentioned builds in the mode you play and see what works for you. I find S/D in WvW still viable.
Would be awesome if we were able to select WvW title from all those we got so far so I could be “invader” and troll people even more.

Ranger and ele.
Ranger – most rangers just use longbow and once you get close to them, they are toast. So I approach most of them as “free food”. Once in a while I jump on a ranger thinking he’ll be an easy kill only to find he moved on from the pve mentality and can actually fight. These rangers are really tough to kill.
Ele – by that I mean non-staff eles. Good ones can burst me down in 0.5s, no other class can kill me that fast.

Not only in T1 or T2, T9 has lag issues past few days as well. Haven’t had lag in T9 until now.

Nobody can fix your weapon choice for you.
One time me I was flipping camps on EB with my guildie. When we got to Speldan, we couldn’t flip as it was fully upgraded with 3-5 Yak Bend guys constantly guarding it. They built balistas and acs. Everytime we killed one, they hard rezzed him and taunted us with laugh emotes. So I lured that tree champ that spawns nearby into camp, it killed all the npcs and the players too for us
The first time I was moa’d, I had no idea what to do and reading skill tool tip would kill me so I just spammed all the skills and watched the mesmer being pecked to death
Last week Underworld zerg decided to flip our keep, tons of golems, the usual. In these situations I try to at least give them hard time killing the lord. My HP was low when I got jumped by S/P thief. I am zerker so PW hurts a lot, didn’t expect to survive, heal and everything on cd. Then last refuge kicked in, the PW still hit me once or twice before I got out… with 1HP letf! I don’t have shadow reju so all I was thinking was OMGKITTEN KITTEN. Somehow none of the random aoe and other dmg flying around hit me and I got out.
I wanted to reply to this post a while ago and say that guard is your best option.
I leveled a guard just for commanding and at first I found the survability just amazing. Guards are awesome for jumping into the frontline and still be able to walk out from there alive.
Well, after few runs commanding our zerg, I won’t recommend a guard/warr. Why? If you play a thief, you’d probably find other classes boring. I can play my guard for maybe an hour and then I have to switch back to my thief. Maybe that’s just the troll in me though :P
If you like your current class and can decently survive in a zerg, just stick with it. You’ll die more than a heavy but there is no point playing a class you don’t enjoy, imo.
It’s true people don’t like following thief commanders. I heard so much kitten about thieves the first time I was commanding on ts, though I understand why. We die fast (and then the average zergling is lost and doesn’t know what to do), and we move unpredictably and most people find this annoying.
If you are on a server lower than T1 – T2, you could try tagging up on borderlands, it’s a lot easier to stay alive in a small zerg, the EB one can get massive (yeah even on Vabbi).
Some people (including me) have dual accounts to play on EU and NA as well. I wouldn’t want one of them removed.
The thing with Underworld is that you don’t actually need more players, but I’d say more skilled existing ones. As much as I hate generalisation, you guys mostly need twice or thrice amount of players to take enemy group down.

Great server for anyone looking to move down few tiers, Vabbi needs more enemy invaders to kill :P
He is already using S/P, which is better for PVE and leveling than S/D. P/P is alright for ranged single target dps.
Try key binding your heal and utilities.
Reading the previous posts, I am sure I get reported daily for using my class skills.
There are ez solutins to each of those problems, I am sure that the balance team will choose the best ones (and that it will happen very soon):
1. increase skill ini cost
2. return ini regen to normal
3. change stun to immoblize
4. return steal CD to normal
5. reduce damage
6. remove evade (bug anyhow- its not mentioned in skill description)
Do you realise that 21s steal with boon rip requires 30pts in trickery line? The reduced cd on steal is not for free.
PW roots the player so without the evade, it’d be a suicide skill.
Nah, I’d say a not spammable but consistently… reusable evade weapon ability with no hard cooldown is definitely a staple of some stinky cheese. Fighting a character where for almost literally 70% of the fight (when he hasn’t teleported away for you waiting on init regen, and you’re not hitting him anyways… the good thieves who exploit the kitten out of their ability to teleport everywhere as well as evade everything.) they’re evading… I get kittening sick of the “evade evade evade evade”. That’s what kittenes me off about thief.
Maybe try not wasting your cd’s when you know he is evading? Timing and reactive play would help instead of spamming skills the moment you see a thief near you.

I have two accounts: T2 NA and T9 EU so my lag could be affected by the server size as well.
I don’t lag on the EU server (playing from UK).
My NA account is on Sea of Sorrows and most of the time I have a very slight delay, I notice this especially when using keep/tower portals or shortbow teleport or with some thief combos – they don’t connect. On some days or on reset nights it gets a bit laggier and I just don’t play my thief cos of this.
Haven’t noticed the lag with other classes (mesmer/guard), except the keep portal lag.
I sometimes get loud noises and pops when i fight in large groups (pve and wvw)

This happened to me few times in past 3 weeks. Usually in combat, suddenly the game sound stops working, all other pc sounds work fine. So tried restarting the game and it doesn’t let me cos GW2 is apparently already running (but doesn’t show in task manager).
Will try the map change next time.
You don’t really need S/D, bountiful theft is usually enough. Sometimes it’s difficult to use FS among clones/illusions cos they get hit and die, and I get condis on me. Also to burn a lot of ini for 1 boon is just not that great.
I find the fight easier when I stay close to mesmer as much as possible and play aggressively to force mesmer play defensively. Most players when they start panicing, they just try to run away and give you their back. GS aa also deals more dmg the farther you are from mes.
Try to use terrain to break line of sight and when using shadow refuge – I drop it next to wall/cliff etc so the mesmer can’t push me out of it. Or dodge inside SR.
I think x/D is better for dealing mesmers, C&D alone deals nice dmg (I am a zerker though, my C&D hits for 4-9k).

global server alliances … pffff I have EU and NA accounts, and there is a big difference in latency. On some days I can’t play my main (thief) cos of this, other classes seem fine but thief is just unplayable sometimes.
I transfered from Blackgate to T9 for a reason, no need to kitten up T9 with blobs from higher tier servers.

I think it’d be completely fair to reduce the cast time to 0.1 sec or even better, code it like withdraw so it’s instant assuming you’re not stunned. These kinds of changes would just be for quality of life rather than making any build stronger.
Imagine they’d actually do that. The raised skill cap would allow thieves who know how to play sword well to even further frustrate other players, who usually just want an easy loot bag.
Tbh, I think the main reason for Anet to add cast time was to remove the combos with instant IR – they said it themselves. I doubt we will ever see instant IR again, Anet doesn’t want more QQ from people even if it means dumbing down the weapon set.
I always thought the thief should get more of a bonus to backstabbing and flank attacks when out of stealth as a baseline. Sure, IN stealth it should be higher.
I would have Side strike do 7% more crit damage from side and 15% more crit damage from rear.
That would pretty much put the thief back in place.
I believe the game recognises only front and back. But it’d be nice to get higher dmg for more skillful play.

There are already incentives to play small group, its just not something that incentivises you as you reference loot, xp and safety as being important.
If however you are looking for more lag free fights, running non zerg builds and having a greater responsibility on the outcome of engagements(generalisations, but you get the point)….you would be small scalling already.
Personal preference is enough.
I didn’t say xp/loot/safety is important to me anywhere in that sentence. It is certainly important to a lot of people, otherwise zergs wouldn’t be so popular.

The outnumbered buff is pointless imo, who thinks about having extra MF when you get killed right outside spawn.
I don’t agree that it should give stat advantage to players, I want fair fights with other roamers.
Instead, outnumbered should somewhat negate the effects of having less people, ie:
increase sup carrying capacity – takes few seconds for a zerg to build siege, the outnumbered “zerg” of 1-3 people takes several minutes to do the same.
buff siege – either faster skills or higher dmg, pvding often takes gate down faster than 2 rams

Even when outnumbered, individual/small group has a chance against other several people, but not against a zerg, that usually equals to death in 0.034s.
I care very much about PPT.
Flipping a camp/tower is often the only way to get fights. The opposing servers always notice the only 1 vabbian camp on the whole EB.

I will answer this post from the point of view of an S/D thief as this is my main.
I lose to mesmers so often I actually avoid them in wvw. I am not a great player but not that bad either. Still, unless the mesmer is a very bad one and starts running away from me, doing literaly nothing, I hardly ever kill a mesmer.
The reasons are:
High, ranged dmg – if I get caught when low on initiative/cds, I am dead. Other classes that can deal a lot of dmg at a range, well, they don’t give me so much trouble because that dmg comes from projectiles and most of the times I can counter that by using dagger storm or warrior stolen skill. Can’t do this with mesmer.
Some of your skills hit thieves even when we stealth – this is a killer for me. Being S/D, I don’t have access to “perma stealth” and I don’t use stealth that much as I am not a big fan of it. So my use of stealth is rather a reaction to what is going in combat, to either clear condis, or when low on HP. While condis are easy to get rid of when fighting a mesmer (C&D off the illusions), stealth is no use when low on HP cos I still get hit (if you use the skills before I go stealth).
100% mind bust – this is a mesmer class mechanic to confuse and well, I works great against me xD. Usually it’s not that easy to target the player among all the illusions.
I used to lose often to necros as well, so asked my guildie to duel with me, I adjusted my build and since then I don’t have problems with necros.
To learn how mesmers work, I made one myself. Got her to 80 a week ago or so and so far I find the class fun to play. I will see how much it can help me fight other mesmers.
