My thinking is this… it doesnt matter what you do with scrolls. THey are goign to get converted into spirit shards whether you use them or not.
I think the thing to do TODAY is to go out and get all the skill points you can from the maps. If you get like 60 or whatever on a level 80 char, you are effectivlyl giving yourself a spirit shard tomorrow, and a hero point when that change comes. If you wait till after the hero points come into play, you will only get a hero point from those skill challenges and you will miss out on the spirit shard.
Am I right?
Can I get an amen!

Does it mean an alt account? Has it been confirmed either way whether or not it can act as an alt account?
Sorry if this has been asked or addressed in another thread. I just dont have the energy to wade through the torrent of posts regarding the char slot thing.
I dont fully understand the new hero points system. Ill figure it out when the time comes. My question is, is there any compelling reason to squeeze in total world completion now vs after HOT comes out? I have a level 80 necro with about 20% world completion, and with only key skillls and traits unlocked. Will I lose my skills? Will it be harder later on? Thanks
Best part about the beta inclusion system… I didnt get the drop, but I did have a ton of fun on an organized dry top map!! Hit tier 6 twice in a row! I never liked dry top before, and now I’m a believer. A good commander and people following directions => very cool experience. I hope I can get on another organized map tonight.
I cant find anything written on this. Is it known if we will still have MF items like auger stones, philosopher stones, crystals, ect for MF forge recipes? How will the MF be handled in face of the loss of skill points?
I often, but not always, crash to desk top when I’m simultaneously crafting (usually refining mats in bulk quantities) and buying and selling stuff on tp. (I gotta do something while the refining is going!). I Will also happen when I salvage a ton of items or open up a lot of bags or something like that. Again not all the time. I get the same message each time. Something like “a serious error has occurred. Pleas send report to anet” I do that but just wondering if other people experience this. Maybe it’s my computer I don’t know.
Will this in any way get around the new account limits that are in place?
I bought a second accound that I essentially dont play except to do crafting. It is so much easier and cleaner for me if I dont mix my flipping and crafting TP orders.
My problem is my main account and this new crafting account cant give each other anything whether its crafting materials or gold becuase my new account has some sort of a new account transfer limit. I dont know if this is lifted with time or what but it is very frustrating. I really dont want to spend time actually playing on this new account.
So this 500 gold limit thing is a Tyrian first world problem I dont think will ever have an impact on me. I hope it undoes these new account transfer limits that are in place.
If you got to play that stress beta for HOT, you had a chance to shoot sniper rifles as part of an event with a range of like 20k and doing tons of damage to husks. Give me THAT for my thief!!!
Very quickly, my experience.
It was fun, I was surprised how pleased I was when I got the email.
My in game beta experience was fine. No problems with lag. I played the second hour of the second session. I played revenant. Since I had no idea what I was doing or what to expect, I cant be sure that everything was working properly, but it seemed to be.
I played to bitter end at which point I was kicked to my character select screen. WHen I came back on with my guard, I did have significant lag. I think my guard was sitting outside of the ascalonian catacombs entrance. I switched to my necro, and had no problems, and a bit later I went back to my guard and had no problems.
Only comment I’ll othewise make is that I had no idea how to open up the masteries menu. I really did try. I figured it wasn’t enabled, but reading other posts I guess it was. So I’d advise you make it more noticeable.
This is why I dont really want another legendary. For the price of a legendary, I can craft all the ascendeds I could ever possibly want with exactly the stats and sigils I need for any dungeon or fractal.
One cool idea would be that a legendary could bank sigils. So if you had a sigil, you would put it in, and then that would then become avaliable for switching. So you would have to buy it, but you wouldnt loose it permanently if you replaced it with another sigil.
I recently finished the luminescence collection. I do like it, but it feels limiting to me that I can only have it on the carapace armor. I’m not a huge fan of the carapace armor as an overall set. Certain pieces are great, (heavy shoulders, light female chest),but I dont like the leggings so much in any of the catagories. Obviously though, if I use other leg skins I like better, they wont be luminescent, and such a fashion faux pas is unthinkable. Even worse, someone might dare to think I DIDN’T have the full set (gasp), and I just couldnt live with that.
So my idea was that if you finished the entire collection you could be awarded luminesce effect dye that could be applied to any armor piece. I’m sure people would want this. I look at the high price for the oozont’s neclace thing which gives you that luminescent look as well. I think it looks ridiculous because its so monochromatic, but the glowing effect is cool. How awsome would it be to have the ablitiy to selectivly apply the effect on whatever piece we wanted??
Answer: Very.
What utility infsuion do people like to run and why?
My thoughts:
Magic find: Hard to argue with, but how much a difference does it really make? 20% MF yes, but when you consider it in the context of overall MF for a player is it worth it? I dont know what average MF is for a typical player, but most people in my guild who casually play have about 150 or so. You run some MF food, and now we have the other MF halloween utilities, (pumpkin thing, crystalized nougate, ect…) You add banners adn teh occasional bonfire and you are now 200-300 MF. To my mind, the 20% from the utility infsuion is less attractive as it may be only a 10% overall improvement or so. I’m not sure there is any easy way to quantify this in terms of how it results into more rares/exotic in the long run.
Gold: I recently bought this one, and I"m haivng buyers remorse. 20% more gold from monsters. How much money are we getting from regular mobs anyway? 80 copper or so? Not a heck of a lot. 20% increase of a pittance is still a pittance.
Experience: Maybe the least usefull in my mind. First, you arent goign to be able to equip it until you are level 80 anyway. exp is very easy to come by in other ways that are much more effective and not influenced by this infusion. (events, dungeons). that being said, I do see some way it could be good. More exp would translate into more skill points, and skill points can be converted into gold quite profitably thorugh MF promotion. So maybe its something to consider, but i have some doubts.
Karma: I think most people dont carea bout karma, have a ton of it and dont know waht to do with it, so this would be the least useful. Depending on what you want to acheive though, I think it could be helpful. I go through a lot of karma. I like to make ascended gear and have made legendaries in the past. this takes a lot of obi shards, and the easiest way to get obi shards is karma. I figure this infusion could be effectively used when farming events, whether cursed shore, silverwastes,. Also map completion doing hearts, and certaily EOTM if you are on a karma train.
Opinions please!
OP here. Thanks for the responses. I really liked that video from Brazil. I’m totally excited to try out that build. I’ve watched his videos before and would have expected the “necromancers are useless” message. But to hear him say that his condi necromancer build is jsut about his favorite build in the entire game sold me. And also thanks to the guys commenting about rangers feeling different from an MM necro. Very helpfull.
So I rolled a necromancer and leveled her up to 80 in the Mad King labryinth this past halloween. Shes been nothing more than a plant food crafting mule since then, but I think its time to get her out there exploring Tyria. Other than being level 80, she is a blank slate, wearing a hodgepodge of rare armor that dropped for me.
I chose necromancer because I wanted a profession fundamentally different from my thief and guard which I’ve played up until now. Eles and Mesmers are plentiful it seems, and necros just seem a little different and, imho, cooler.
I came to necromancer forums expecting to read people defending the profession, but how surprised I was to read how critical the crowd is, even among those who main necromancers! But I digress….
I’ve been reading a bit, and the two builds that interest me are minion master and a straight up condi build. Both seem sufficently different from what i’ve done with my thief and guard.
So a few points and a couple quesitons.
I really only plan on using her for open world pve content, primarily solo map completion, and some orr farming. No dungeons, no fractals. Do you guys think MM and/or condi builds are suitable? Do you think they would be fun? I just want to avoid extreme frustration.
I was thinking sinister stats. Any reason not too? I went with the berserker meta on my theif, asassins on my guard. For the necro I want to keep things on the offensive, but with a different flavor.
Lastly, can anybody comment on how an MM build on necro compares with having a pet on a ranger? I’m thinking my next toon will be a ranger, and I want to try to avoid a deja vu feeling. Variety is the spice of life.
Believe it or not, I’ve made a bit of progress. I have no problem with the spreadsheet, and using this guys example
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/79348276/GW2Spidy%20API%20Google%20Drive.pdf
I am able to bring in his example price of gossamer bolt. So I’m going to fiddle with it for a bit. Seal, I will PM you if I get stuck. Thanks for the offer.
I’m not sure whether to post this is this forum or the API development forum, so I posted it here figuring more people will read it. If its more appropriate for that forum, sorry.
So I know there are threads out there helping people construct spreadsheets with links to current prices. The problem is I don’t really understand the conversation. To a degree its like someone who doesn’t really know how to swim going into the open ocean.
In any event though, I’m motivated to learn. I just want to make a simple spreadsheet to monitor the profitability of the dozen or so recipes I like to craft, or material promotions I like to do. I know such thing already exist, but I want to have it tweaked to just the way I want it. Plus I guess I just want to do it for interest’s sake.
So I guess I’m asking where to start. Are there resources out there that can teach me how to do this that don’t assume much starting knowledge? Excel for dummies is no help. I need help with the linking, not the spreadsheet part of it.
also, is it easier to work with google docs vs Microsoft? Seems like it might be, but I’ve only ever really used excel.
any help you can send to this desperate soul is much appreciated.
You know, this is a perfect example of something I’ve thought for a while. So many people who don’t game want to badmouth video games, saying they make people zombies, or isolate them or someother nonsense. Well Sylv’s story shows how this can be the exact opposite. You can develop real relationships, even if its online and in guild chat. Yes its different than the people in your "real life’, but its perfectly legit.
In fact, sometimes people an be MORE honest with guildies than other people. For example the other night guild chat consisted of people talking about how messed up their brothers and sisters were. We talked about drug abuse, mental illness… really serious stuff. Maybe the “distance” created by online chat makes it easier to talk about these deeper feelings.
One last example of how video games help people in concrete real life ways. 100% true story what im about to say. I used to play the game clash of clans which has clan chat, essentially the same guild chat. Similarly, you develop relationships with your clan mates. One of my clanmates was terminally ill with esophageal cancer, and was too weak and debilitated to really do anything except play video games. He died a few months after I “met” him. Some people in our clan did the whole Movember thing to raise money for cancer research, I personally donated. Also, in the weeks after his death, his mom would get on clan chat on his account to talk to us, to talk about her grief, and to thank us for “being there” for her son in his final months. I still get emotional thinking about it.
So with this in mind, I’m happy to be spending my free time having fun, building relationships, and taking down dragons.
Prayers and love sent your way Sylv
I’m not sure where to post this. I remember there was a thread about people griefing maize balm farmers in Rata Sum, but I cant find it for the life of me. In any event, some guy has been there for hours, clearly a bot, simply preventing the farm from happening. I made a report for botting. Is that all that a player can do? Very frustrating.
Also, is there anyway to get into a different megaserver? I tried guesting to another server and reentering, but it didn’t work.
oh well. Thanks for any help…or at least letting me vent.
Reading that thread on unexpected precs raised a question. Some people reported getting them out of loot bags from various places. Is that influenced by the level of the character opening the bag?
I recently leveled up a Mesmer, and I noticed that along the way the loot I got from bags was about the same level as my character at that time, including rares. Since all precursors are level 80, is it possible for a level 50 character to get a precursor from an exotic loot bag?
Also, for clarification, magic find doesn’t have any effect on loot from loot bags, right? Only from actual drops is what I understand.
Thanks
Can someone confirm? If its gone, too bad. It had some functionality no other site had.
Really great, thanks. I do have one suggestion. When using the ingredient sell function, consider having another column that lists the overall crafting profit percentage. When i’m trying to decide what to craft, I dont really care too much what the profit per item is, I care about my overall profit and that im using all of the mats efficiently. I"m at work and not able to really sit down and think about it fully. Maybe the info i’m thinking about corresponds to the profit/item you already have in there.
I’m really glad to see a dev post on this thread.
I really think the current system needs to be changed. No system will be perfect, but the current set up can too easily be abused. I’ve absolutly witnessed meanspirtited kicking from parties at the very last moment of fractals, and then a guild member of the kicker come in and get the reward. Its infuriating, and i’ve never even been the victim!
As I said, I dont know the best solution. I was thinking maybe that when the little green check mark comes up for kick, maybe there could be a red no vote symbol like there is when someone requests to join the party.
A 3 vote could also work well I think. I think the benefits of a 3 vote to kick would FAR outweigh any problems. When guys are AFK, I really never find disagreement in PUGs as to whether or not to replace him. Usually there is a little discussion first, and we qucikly realize we are thinking the same thing and the guy gets replaced. Also, I find that most of the time, when one particular guy is messing up a lot, and cant hack it, he leaves on his own in shame! So kicking those sorts of people isn’t an issue. And if they really are that bad, and the other guys want to kick them, they still can.
On the other hand, while abusive unfair kicking could still happen with a 3 vote, you would now have to have 3 jerks in collusion instead of just 2. I’m certain this would reduce the overall number of negative events.
Lastly, I’d tend to lean towards a 3 vote rather than party leader system. Its kind of like a dictatorship…if your lucky and you get a benevolant dictator, all will be well, but you cant count on that alwyas being the case. My fear is taht more often than not you will get some eliteist wannabe punk and they will make 20-30 min of your life miserable bossing everybody around, making threats, ect.
It takes 100 charged lodestones to make Bolt. When I was making it I thought I would farm them as well, but like the above posters said, you just cant really. I got to know CoE well, and I still enjoy running it, but you cant count on it to get that many charged lodestones. In the end, I got the vast majority of mine through MF promotion.
I crafted bolt, which i think its probably one of the more expensive legendary weapons. Zap cost me 1200g, and it also calls for charged lodesones which are FAR more expensive than any other. I did it all in game, no real money. I really had fun in the process. I LIKED the grind.
I agree with the idea that legendarys should be difficult to get, whether that means time, gold, materials, whatever. Its a goal to shoot for, but only dedicated players should get it.
My thought of Pre crafting is go for it! Make it hard, let it drive up the T6 mat costs adn everything else. By driving up the mat costs it will STILL be hard to get, and so legendaries will still be a luxury type item. The advantage is if they do it right, it will be a more interesting and fun way to get a precurser vs the current methods.
I’m new to guardian, and excited to get to get to know a new way of playing. My question centers on the use of WoR. When running dungeons with my guildies, they are telling me to put up WoR at certain points, but I’m not seeing ranged attacks happening. Specific examples include 1) Kohler, 2) Sider Queen 3) The 3 golems right before Tazza in SE P1. 4)The golems right before the lasers in CoE.
I suppose Kohler does have a ranged attack when he spins, but thats all i can see, and they are telling me to put it up as soon as he reaches us. Queen has her webs she shoots out, but i think thats it, and the golems seem to me to be 100% meele. Am I missing something or am i getting mistaken advice?
Is aoe damage classifed as ranged? I mean in cases like the queens poison AOE, not symbols.
Also, tell me if i’m wrong, but WoR (or any blockng skill for that matter) wont work well with retaliation skills like pain reversal, as i suspect you have to take damage for the retaliation to kick in.
So cool learning the ins and out of a new profession. Thanks in advance
This is admitedly probably wrong, and will sound paranoid, but i’ll throw it out there anyway. I’ve had the thought that part of the priority as to who’s items are sold at a particular price might be, in part, influneced by being logged in. I log in several times during the day, both peak and nonpeak hours. OFten i’ve logged in with no coins waiting for pick up despite several hours of being off line. Then, within 30 seconds of being on line i’ll start making sales and have coins to pick up. Maybe is just coincidence.
The wiki doesnt clarify this: Is there a stat differnece between quiver of swift flight adn quiver of 1000 arrows if I choose berserker stats? Also, is there a diffence in appearence? I think the screen shot is exactly the same.
To a large degree I’ve stopped flipping items on the TP. I have a job and a life, so I get a limited time to play each day. I’d just rather be out there DOING stuff than sitting there babysitting the TP. I do know of a couple niche items that I discovered along the way that I can buy and sell passivly over the course of a week. I stick to those for stable consistent profit, albeit modest. I also know of one item i can consistently and easily craft to sell at a profit. So between those two things I estimate I earn 1-2 gold per day. If I want $$ I run dungeons. I can bust through AC and COF all paths in less than 2 hours with my guildmates. Sell my rares or salvage for extos and I"m good for 15 gold for my time, PLUS experience, PLUS karma, PLUS tokens, PLUS its way more fun. So for me its a no brainer.
Yes, you buy its once and you never have to worry again. Unlimited use, any type of metal. And you get a cool graphic to go with it.
I bought a pick and I love it. Very expensive. Exchanged 100 gold for the 1000 gems to get it. It will probably never pay for itself, but I dont care. I never have to worry about running out or if I have the wrong level pick equiped. Also, I save space in my inventory. Next time they are avaliable I’m going to get the axe if I have the $$.
I agree its probably not worth it from a monetary standpoint, but I cant wait to get it for convenience sake. So if its on sale, I’m grabbing it.
I think its like the special harvesting items. I bought a harvesting pick for what works out to be 100 gold. It will be a LONG time if ever that I harvest enought stuff to be making a profit on it, but I dont care. I love having it. I love never having to worry about running out, or that I dont have the right level pick for the map I’m on. So I expect I’ll feel the same way about the salvage o matic. Now I guess I need to run a bunch of dungeons to get the $$ to get it before the sale ends!!
thanks for the great response. Just to clarify, I didn’t buy 60 golds worth of exotics. These were all drops or things I got from the mystic forge. My plan moving forward is to Sell my rares, not drop them in the mystic forge and then buy cheap exotics at about 1 gold or less.
In terms of the BLSK, I’ve only gotten one in my daily chest. I’ll use it strictly for exotics if I do get one. At some point I’ll have to sit down and do the math as to whether or not its worth it to buy them from the gem store at an approximately 10:1 gem:gold ratio.
I’m trying to craft ascended armor, and I’m having a huge problem getting globs of dark matter. I’ve salvaged maybe 20 exotic items, all level 80, all with master salvage kit, and I have 5 globs to show for it. I could have sold those exotic items for probably over 60 gold, making a glob of dark matter worth 12 gold each!!!
What am I doing wrong????
I agree with a previous comment. The biggest problem here is a lack of communication on Anets part. I can understand and forgive the presence of a bug. I can’t understand and forgive neglect and silence while so many of us are so frustrated!
