OMG guys I just had the best idea ever~~~

Night shift NPC guards as a guild influence activated bonus.

Once you activate it, the keep that you claimed gets a bunch of level 82 NPC guards who do the following

1. Man cannons (random placements), burning oil, mortars (random placements)
2. Repair walls using in keep supplies once the door/wall is under 40%
3. Man at least 2 arrow carts and 2 balistas per gate (random placements)
4. Extra level 82 NPC guards at the lord and outside the gate
5. Waypoint to this keep is always opened even when contested as long as that player has an outmanned buff!
6. Extra lord body guard similar to Commander Siegerazer who calls for help as a map announcement.

NPC siege weapon shooting ability should not be perfect. But at least on par with an average player playing casually.

They should be reasonably expensive so that even the largest guilds cannot use it more than once per 24 hours. Can be separated into several different upgrades (Siege, NPC, WP, blah blah) and separated for Tower, Keep, Castle

With these upgrades, it should require some coordination even for medium sized zergs to break.

Finally, we can sleep and not lose our keeps to 10 man squads who face zero resistance.

Ok let me tell you a real life scenerio which just happened

Friday Dec 14th 2012 – SOS vs SBI vs JQ

For me, it was 9pm. I had just gotten off work, had been in the office since 10am so exactly 11 hours.
I go have dinner with my gf for about 30 mins
I had a conference call organized at 11pm with overseas subsidiary office.
I was supposed to go have drinks with a friend for thier birthday later that night.

10:30pm, I recieve a Whatsapp message:
“Jedahs, we need you to lead in SOS BL, JQ is taking everything and have closed the gap from 15k lead to only 7k lead. If we do not fight back, we will actually lose by reset in 8 hours.”

So what do I do?
- Cancel mid night conference call with overseas office
- Cancel birthday drinks with friend
- Tell my gf: “sorry gotta go” “work problems???” “no, game problems” “…..”

I got home, we played and played and played. In the end, we won by a crazy small margin of 3,000 points. Very good effort though JQ, very good.

My top officer and commander played for 18 hours straight. 18 freaking hours!

I played from 11pm to 7am in the morning. Not to mention I had just spent about 11 hours at work. I only played for 8 hours but I had been up for 20 hours by the time I stopped playing.

You say “lol you could just not play”

If the online remaining players didn’t play all the way through Euro time, all the efforts for thousands of people that our server had put into the weekly matchup would have been wasted. That’s 144 hours of our time wasted if the few of us who had the ability to push on didn’t.

Now, my friend is not happy I didn’t show up for her party. I am not sure how the overseas office is doing because I had to postpone the meeting. My gf, well she is so used to it since GW2 came out I’m surprised she hasn’t dumped me. Hundreds of players are burnt out. My officers have taken the whole weekend off. Look at our opponent too, they’re completely burnt out because they didn’t sleep and pushed so hard, and they still lost which I am sure is very demoralizing. Seeing from this weekend, it seems like our opponent have given up as well.

Very close call on the last 10 hours of the last match. I wonder if the landscape has shifted on JQ server?

I want to congratulate Sea of Sorrows on their victory as #1 champion in WvW for 4 straight weeks in a row. You are proven that without one time event distracting our opponents, without opponent burnout, without ex-HOD holding our hands, you are still able to hold your ground and win. Last week proved that we are a true community. Your legacy is solid.

A shout out to MERC, normally I don’t shout out to my own guild…but you guys proved to be amazing last night. More than anything I had ever dreamed of. Even when your lazy guild leader went to sleep. You guys kept fighting hard, in full force. Even when you stupid guild leader couldn’t do the maths and was confused if we were going to lose or not, you said “who cares let’s just keep fighting”. Extra pat on the shoulders to the officers, when I said hardcore, I didn’t mean THIS hardcore, lol.

And so we begin another week…

P.S. I would also like to apologize for acting like a jerk at one point last night, that’s what happens when you play for over 18 hours I guess. My last few hours was wandering around aimlessly without the ability to make speech on VoIP….

People, let’s stop blaming each other for hacks and exploits. Obviously as players we cannot stop poor behavior of individuals.

For example we’ve already reported a certain exploit user at least 30+ times, but he’s still doing it 4 days after. You’d think someone from Anet would look into it? Please? Can’t fix it? Ban him. Can’t ban him? Suspend him. Can’t suspend him? whisper him to stop.

If there are no players on during Euro prime time why do you need to be on? Let the graveyard crews of the servers fight themselves without an addicted daytime commander leading one of them…

Because if some other organized guild decides to stay up late and destroy us, we are screwed. It takes a good organized guild less than 20 minutes to wipe out an entirely upgraded Boarderland if left undefended.

I am in tier 1. We are against the best of the best. We all came here to win. I’m telling you though, it isn’t working for us. We spend 2-3 weeks in tier 1 and we already see only 2 ways out:

- Quit the game
- Go to a Euro Server and PvDoor

A part of being a good commander is also knowing how to delegate tasks and trust other people’s abilities to handle the situation. Sounds like you’re trying to take all the responsibility to yourself without relying on the other people in that server.

The good thing about having a more organized community is that when you’re taking a week off or otherwise aren’t playing WvW, yet have a significant impact into it, you can just state that to the others and they will take over. Try to work on it instead of changing the game by individual efforts, it’s probably not happening.

Nope, there are simply no players on during Euro prime. This is why i need to play during Euro prime along with my guild. We should be sleeping during these godforsaken hours.

No one to delegate to my friend. So stop telling me to delegate.

The only way for it to work is if we recruit a Euro guild to join our server. But then what? How about all the other servers? Seriously if SOS gets 1 or 2 Euro guild we will dominate WvW #1 forever. Does that even sound reasonable? Does that sound fun? I don’t think so.

You know what is the hardest part of commanding?

When you have full capped. The zerg is celebrating… yay you won the day.

But you know…that as soon as you log off or change maps, the enemy will cap all your empty towers…

So….you wait….1am….and wait….3am……and as commander you gotta entertain the zerg with jokes and riddles or they will leave…..and you wait…..5am…..

Why? Why does anyone need to do this? 24/7 WvW? don’t kid yourself it isn’t 24/7 Raging hardcore WvW. It’s just whoever sleeps less staring at a empty boarderland.

This suggestion has been made earlier and it even got an official response. Merging EU and US was not possible due to one server being in NA and another in EU which cannot be merged, that is what I remember.

The North American and European data centers are different in one important respect: they are located on different continents. North American players connecting to the NA data center (and European Union players connecting to the EU data center) will generally experience lower latency and a higher likelihood of playing with larger groups of other players, as those in the same data center tend to operate during similar times of the day. So there are real distinctions between the data centers which their EU/NA affiliations make clear and for that reason we will not be removing their continent designations.

We don’t match up worlds from multiple data centers for similar reasons. Ultimately, the server that runs a WvW map must live somewhere in the world and the players who connect from that same continent will have a distinct advantage over those connecting from another continent due to lower latency. In order to keep things as fair as possible to all involved we keep the matchups within each data center.

Of course it is always possible for an EU player to choose to play on an NA server, or vice-versa, but in doing so that player is choosing to take on the burden of additional latency. That situation is vastly different from our matching system placing an entire team at a latency disadvantage without their knowledge or consent.

tl;dr: data centers are on different continents, latency is an issue with inter-continental connections, data center distinctions are here to stay.

We appreciate the official response, we understand it is difficult, and we have tried it.

But we are telling them: Sorry, not good enough for your customers. Please change.

Its not really our responsibility as customers to think about such technical issues. Anyways some USA guilds play on EU and vice versa. No problems reported so far.

If you want to make it your responsibility, submit a resume to Anet and make it your problem to solve.

Previously, a topic regarding the failing health of myself and many other top tier guild leaders and players due to excessive play in WvW non-prime time in order to cover for the 24/7 game time and falling player numbers was closed because the argument was “derailed”. However, some great suggestion was made by a particular individual called Jaxon caught my eye. I’m surprised Anet didn’t think of it. Somehow Anet dreamed of 24/7 WvW but did not create an environment that naturally allowed this to blossom. THAT is the biggest flaw of WvW design. Not your spawn camp issues, not jumping puzzle camping, not even little hacks and culling. You simply created a world that was not sustainable for the players. We are forced to leave due to exhaustion and burn out.

So let’s discuss it again, The Jaxon Method

The main point about a casual game with a really great game mode in WvW is really not casual enough.
I wonder if they could link an NA server with a Euro server when you entered WvW, the same way we can sPvP with anyone. That’d help everyone.

I think this is a great idea. Technical difficulties can be resolved with money. You want to invest now to save the game or have you reaped enough to abandon your investment? Only Anet knows. So far it seems there isn’t a separate EU and US distribution, so it seems that server merging across territory will not affect the financial and legal structure. I’m sure Anet, a large corporation with capable legal advice and an eye on the media knows this, it’s not that simple. It’s look at a simple court case.

Tobacco company produces cigarettes. Smokers become addicted not knowing it was addictive. Smokers sue Tobacco company claiming they gave them an addictive and harmful product without warning. People say “lol you’re addicted to cigarettes it’s your fault”. Does Tobacco company pay? Yes! Is industry more regulated? Yes! Are you, the citizens, getting taxed more? Yes!

The biggest flaw is that Anet advertised this as a “Casual Game” yet created an environment and scoring system that is exactly the opposite of casual and promotes hardcore playing. Lawyers will have a field day. Simply put: “In America…”

It’s time to review your policy Anet. I love this game, I don’t want your ship to sink like SWTOR. I want it to last a long time. Let’s take this in a positive stride. We are your top players, I’m sorry to tell you in an elitist fashion. Your guild system is horrible but the guild leaders are still trying their best to hold the communities together. Without community, how else can we get people to play between your amazing one time PVE event down times? It’s communities that create MMOs in the long run, not game play or graphics. Don’t burn us out, don’t force us to leave.

The problem is not really delegation. The problem is I need to sit there in WvW, on a fully capped map, because we are all afraid if we log off all our efforts will be wiped out in a minute. All people need to sleep. Our players are playing until 5-7am in the morning waiting for our USA partners to get on for their shift.

The new “Break Out” system is just going to make it worse. Because the efforts of 100 people can be overwritten within minutes by several people. Making it harder for us to sleep. I understand Anet is trying to resolve the spawn camping problem, but their solution also creates a new problem. Please think on both sides.

Guys just read the threads about tier 1 and 2 match ups. Sleep deprivation is a common theme.

It’s the only way to win in this game. Infact, it’s like that in real life too. You spend all your time on something, be it studying, work, relationships, you will be more successful. Read about all the successful CEOs who sleep like less than 3 hours a day.

1. We have 30 officers in the guild for 1000+ people. Every officer is incharge of different things. But officers are leaving the game, etc. Yeah I even still talk to them after they have left the game. But they can’t really help like they did before. Why are they leaving the game? There is are many threads out there on "stale WvW’ already. Also, these officers are normal people too, they wake up and go to sleep. They need to sleep too. I don’t expect everyone to play until 5-7am in the morning to wait for Americans to come online.

2. I am the co-owner of a real life company with over 500 employees. I believe I know how to delegate. It’s the only reason why I can still afford to skip real life work. The problem is there are time zones where no one covers. In real life there are business hours. People can get off work and go home. In WvW, no sorry, there isn’t.

3. Next you will say “just find someone to cover the Euro shift”. Well, if you are a serious WvW player, you will know the difficulty given there are Euro Servers. In real life terms, basically there is a huge labour shortage for the “Euro Time Zone Labour Market”. In real life, we would either avoid the market (can’t thanks to Anet), automate the operations (can’t its called botting) or outsource to another partner (this is the only way, Euros, we need you!).

I’ll keep this as short as I can. Here’s the situation

- I am in the Oceanic Time Zone
- I am on a tier 1 server
- I am a guild leader of a guild with 1300 members
- I am a commander
- Since Friday reset, I’ve been playing everyday at least 10 hours a day.

I play because:

- Many players and commanders have left the game recently because they are fed up with the lack of improvements in WvW. I lost at least 4 oceanic commanders in my guild.
- I major guild has left our server out of boredom and stale gameplay, we lost at least 3 oceanic commanders.

The problems:
- I can’t sleep
- I can’t go to work
- I am disappointing real life acquaintances because I am missing or late for appointments
- I can’t go out to dinner with my friends and family
- I’m at work now but I’m always checking the score and ready to get back home if needed.

I can just give up and let my timezone crumble. But you know I can’t let this happen. I have people I need to be responsible to, alliances I need to honor. But guess what, I have even greater responsibilities in real life and Anet, you are forcing me to choose. Why? A game vs my real life.

Someone is going to drop dead and die from exhaustion or lack of sleep. It’s going to happen. You said this was a casual game. Please do something about it. Not casual at all.

A casual game should be one where you playing or not does not affect your position greatly compared to your peers. As of right now, logging off causes major problems, especially if you are a commander and guild leader.

The recent announcements in WvW changes, especially the break out system make it worse. At least now I can take over a boarderland and leave it to the zerg to take care of it. Soon, there will be no sleep. Ever.

What’s the point of stacking more people in T1? I find it ironic there’s one thread crying about how WvW is becoming stale and then a few other threads from T1 and T2 servers trying to recruit and lock more people into these already overwhelming presences.

Wouldn’t the entire WvWvW ecosystem thrive with more competition? If anything, a few more guilds from T1 (maybe just a few from T2 too) should start looking at the lower tiers to fill those gaps. I don’t see anyone fondly reflecting on TA’s old deathgrip.

As a responsible participant in the WvW community, it’s my duty to voice my opinion and tell Anet about the problems, that does not mean I don’t do something about it on my own to offset their delay in reaction. We can’t just blame others, we need to have a contingency for the external setbacks too.

In this world, a lot of people like to undermine other people’s efforts and their ability without looking at the facts, just so they can give themselves an excuse for losing. Let’s look at the facts:

1. After the mass transfer, Sea of Sorrows has just as many NA guilds as any other server. During US prime time, our scores are relatively even. It is only after US prime that SOS seems to pull ahead. Why? Because our NA players put in extra time and effort to hold their ground well after other servers’ NA teams have gone to sleep.

2. Sea of Sorrows has just as many WvW focused oceanic guilds as any other server in Tier 1, 2 and possibly 3. Infact, our oceanic core WvW groups only consists of 2 major WvW guilds and several small-medium size guilds. We are in no better position than other top tier servers. We don’t night cap all maps when other sleep, no one can do that after reaching tier 2. Again, we pull ahead infront of other servers after Oceanic prime time when our Oceanic, European and Asian players pull extra hours everyday, sleeping at around 3am – 5am every day after a long day of work, to hold our ground.

So you can keep trying to attribute our success to windfalls or acts of God. But no, we did it through hard work and persistence and our eye bags and beaten bodies is testament to it.

Seriously Anet. Most of the people on this forum bought this game for WvW.

Apart from bug fixes, nerfs and a bandage over exploits (orb issue) WvW has received zero attention.

Meanwhile, sPVP got a complete revamp and PVE is already receiving their 3rd one time event…. 1 time event. Seriously you guys are spending so much time and effort on ONE TIME events, I don’t get it at all.

If you want money, just put up new costumes to sell every week. Infact, you should have made the Scythe Skin 2000 gems (it currently is 30g, which is roughly 1666 gems). You would be rich just from that.

Meanwhile you have created a truly dynamic environmental but you don’t seem to care about it at all. Is the WvW team really underfunded or something?

Why, you ask, is the world #1 WvW server still looking for more players?

Any capable and forward looking organization looks to think ahead. Like any organization in the world, employees come and go, customers come and go, funding is received and spent. Just because we are fine today does not mean we are fine tomorrow. Sea of Sorrows was not built overnight with an amazing hardcore WvW alliance like other top tier servers of old. SoS was built over several months of persistence, dedication and discipline. Many guild leaders pulled extra hours apart from game time as we put emphasis and recruitment, marketing, training, diplomacy, etc.

While SoS does not have any official internal guild alliance, it is perhaps the most cohesive environment I have ever seen in an MMO. There is no in fighting, no bickering, no drama. Yet we still reached number 1 without all the hardcore elitism. We all know our goal and our role to make it happen. That is why we are number 1.

We have no intention to let Sea of Sorrows fall into disrepair. So recruitment efforts will continue unrelenting.

So, ask yourself this: Is this a server community you want to be a part of?

Anet needs to make money sure.

But what in pve makes them money?

Halloween does not have to be a pve event. They could simply put seasonal costumes up and people would buy them.

You know what’s a huge money sink? commander icons and siege weapons. You have no idea how much money I gave to anet to buy commander icons for core guild members when the game was still fresh. I’m sure my account should have VIP status next to it if they keep track.

More importantly these one time event will attract some old players back but wvw is naturally dyamic and ongoing so it keeps players constantly hooked. Right now I don’t wanna buy new costumes cause it feels that soon there will be no one left to show off to

Anet, WvW is the only thing that will keep your game alive without major monetary investment. PVP, which is naturally dynamic by nature because we are playing against other people, with other people.

Instead you are only focusing on PVE content, which gets old with 48 hours.

I continue to love WvW and I’m not saying I will quit, but guess what? Core guild member status are all turning into Unknown meaning they haven’t logged on for a long time and everyday I am spending time recruiting to replace them, and THAT I am getting sick of.

Guild system is horrible, it’s like you haven’t taken any of the good things from guild management systems from other games in the past 15 years.

Multi-Guild system sounds great on paper but infact it’s probably the thing that’s killing the game right now, PVE and WvW. Members can basically leave or rejoin whenever they like so no loyalty is built. Without loyalty and representation to see guild chat, there is no communication between guild members and the community breaks apart when key members log off. Guild communication is like Lions Arch map chat. You see it when you’re there, you don’t when you aren’t. That’s not a guild.

Anet, you understand that even Blizzard doesnt churn out content as fast or good as you, but why is it that people never seem to get bored of WoW? Because we can chat and talk and have fun with our guild! In GW2….there’s no one to talk to….over 60% of my guild members are repping a guild with their 5 friends who they see every day at school/work already anyways. The online guild community can not help YOU keep them in the game. I can’t convince or help them have fun as a guild leader if I can’t even talk to them! This is especially detrimental to something like WvW because it requires a large number of coordinated players.

WvW has no rewards. Some people like me enjoy the thrill of PVP fights and the joy of commanding. But every commander knows, people need rewards to continue. When all the rewards for playing is clearly in dungeons, people will leave. When we don’t have troops, it’s over, even us hardcore WvW players will be forced to stop playing.

Also….badges, we have to pick them up? WTF? Do you know how much I’m doing especially as a commander? I estimate I have foregone at least 70% of my WvW bag drops for the sake of commanding. I don’t see sPVP players having to pick up their glory in bags do they?

Anet, refocus onto Guild and WvW and make immediate improvements. It’s the only way to save your sinking ship.

Just played 12 hours to WvW. Really tired.

So proud of MERC today for huge turnout and we finally were able to keep SM the entire night even while getting double teamed (and its very normal to be double teamed when you own SM, not blaming SBI and JQ for it)

If you are willing to pay 100g to get into WvW quicker, you are hardcore and probably deserve to be in there.

That’s how I feel it is.

In DAoC, owning a keep was something truly to be proud of. I remember the first time we took a tower in DAoC our whole guild would camp out there for days, taking turns watching the fort and building it up over time.

The problem with WvW in GW2 is that it doesn’t feel like part of the world. For example, as a guild leader…I don’t even know which camp/tower/keep/castle we’ve claimed. Infact, even if I enter that castle, the only thing I can see that seems like ownership is that generic flag we have up there. There are no perks. The guild buff is just an extra chore for the guild leaders to monitor and isn’t really something we are proud of.

Basically…I can come in at anytime, I can leave at anytime. It doesnt matter, because winning doesnt matter either. I can’t see it, I can’t feel it. There is no incentive for success. No ownership of the victory.

Fast pace is good, but the lack of guild interaction with claiming ruins the experience. Don’t even get me started on the horrible guild interface.

This is me whining on wuvwuv forums after too much champagne in the airport lounge…when the hell is my flight!?

Commanders also need priority queue. Being disconnected on a full map and logging back in with a 2 hour queue is devastating to your guild and the match.

Few things:

1. This victory belongs primarily to the hardcore Oceanic WvWers of Sea of Sorrows, most notably Jedahs and [MERC] and [OCX] but to many others as well, that have stayed with SoS since the early days and battled each week. The Oceanics of SoS had the most to prove as they were constantly doubted:•They couldn’t stand up to SoR’s Nine Dragons and CRS, but they did stand up, and stand tall.

•They would get crushed by IoJ’s Oceanics, but instead beat them three consecutive times to prove who has the best Oceanic WvWers.

•War Machine would roll over SoS’s Oceanics, but they didn’t.

2. Secondarily, many NA and other guilds, hearing the call of from the SoS Oceanics, joined the server, when it was ranked 10th or lower, for a challenge. Instantly we all worked together and communicated and shared the load. Even though most nights we always had a map with nearly zero coverage during our NA timeslot (and to this day virtually no Euro coverage), we typically had the best ppt while pulling double duty and constant all-calls. Much respect to guilds and alliances such as FoE, AoI, WORK, HuG, FANG, TSym, RMA and DiE (forgive me if I forgot any). We have many talented folks that, when they’re on the map, put in great work. The militia and commanders do a great job as well. I have witnessed extremely little infighting on maps during matches.

3. To JQ and SB, thanks for a great match and I salute your hard work and skill. You folks deserve to be mentioned among the best servers of all time in GW2 for your consistency. I can only hope that SoS shows such consistency at the top.

KV thanks for whipping our fat lazy koala bums into shape. Without your relentless kitten kicking we never would have been so driven to win.

I’m just not sure if I’m allowed to talk about it on the forums anymore cause it got deleted last time and to be honest that was a slap in the face.

Anyways, I do a lot of philanthropy work IRL and I’ve asked my assistant to prepare some charity proposals for me for when I return home from London on Monday.
