As Evan mentioned, make sure “Use Free Camera” is enabled. Then, if you use left click to pan the camera it will keep the same viewing angle. Using right click will cause it to snap back to its original follow position.

I just finished spending a few hours catching up on these responses. There’s a lot of good feedback here…and some…not so much!

I’ve seen quite a few posts mention the lack of bug fix mentions and I wanted to let you guys know that for the most part they’ve simply been excluded from the balance preview. Our designers have been and will continue to work on profession bugs all the way until this build is locked up and ready to ship.

I’ll touch base with the guys on Monday when we get back into the office and see if we’re able to provide any updates.

Ascended gear from wvw ranks?

As we mentioned in Friday’s livestream, the chance for obtaining ascended armor and weapons from WvW rank up chests will be increased in next Tuesday’s update. We’ll also be increasing the chance for all ascended weapon drops from Tequatl. Guild Missions will drop ascended weapons, armor, and trinkets more frequently as well.

I don’t see any problem with the way stealth works on downed players. There’s a lot of room for interesting plays with smoke fields + blast finishers or skills like SR – and there’s also a level of coordination needed to make sure they go off successfully. If there’s a thief out there reading this, I know at some point they’ve stealthed an ally who then proceeded to auto-attack immediately and get revealed. Doh!

As for counterplaying a downed body in stealth, not everyone has has the greatest set of tools for it, that’s true. Best bet is to cleave like a mad-man, and use CC skills like blowouts to prevent the rez. As for the OP, if you’re out of cooldowns when it happens, there’s not much you can do.

I may just be a skeptic, but I feel that increasing points per kill, at least in the current meta, would just push players even further into defensive/attrition builds rather than offensive. It’s safer.

Anyways, we’ve talked about the prospect of increasing points per kill before, and it’s certainly an interesting idea. Adding the ability to change score settings in CAs seems like a good start to test it out. There’s a lot of work that needs to be done in general before we could get to something like that, though.

Hey all,

I want to clear up some potential confusion that may have been caused with this thread as I’ve seen a few posters questioning the connection between this thread and the Collaborative Development Initiative. For those of you who may be unfamiliar with the term, the CDI is a tool that our designers use to gather critical design-focused feedback on a given topic that we then take into consideration during the development process, making the development of Guild Wars 2 much more of a conversational two-way street.

On the other hand, the main intent of this thread was to help me acclimate to the WvW community at large, getting a grasp on the things players both enjoy and dislike, and with that in mind I think the thread served its purpose well. World vs. World is a very complex machine in that it caters to many groups of diverse interests and play styles, and because of that there is no absolutely uniform list of high-concerns that players might have. The opinions and information I’ve gleaned from this thread have been extremely helpful in getting my finger on the many pulses of WvW. My job, ultimately, is to not only communicate things to you, but to also act as your representative to our developers.

On the topic of CDI, if you’d like to participate in the next one, Chris Whiteside will be starting a new thread that focuses on improving the CDI process itself sometime today or tomorrow in Guild Wars 2 General Forums.

Thanks for the post, OP. This is a fairly polarizing topic, but it is interesting nonetheless. It came up quite a bit in the 3 likes / 3 dislikes thread as well. Changing the way downstate works would have such a large sweeping change on the way the game is played – it’s sort of fun to theorycraft the ramifications!

Keep in mind, I’m just spit-balling here – none of this is in the works. I would just like to see some more conversation on the topic.

So, what if you only rallied allies when you stomped someone, rather than cleaving the body? This would be much more difficult to pull off in large-scale fights, but you would have added risk/reward for attempting. Would even-numbered fights still snowball?

It would almost always affect players in small-scale fights as well. I’ve won plenty of 1v2’s in WvW and PvP from downstate, getting that clutch rally at the right moment – but that would go away too.

What if you couldn’t hard rez downed allies? What are the positives and negatives?

Anyways, just rambling. Feel free to discuss! If you have any good threads on the topic that come to mind, feel free to link them for me.

I understand where you’re coming from. Heck, the ‘shower of responses’ on the sPvP forums is probably from me.

WvW is an incredibly complex game-type that caters to individuals with a wide array of interests, whether that’s coordinated large-scale guild groups, havoc groups, small-man roaming, roaming alone, zerg surfing, and whatever else floats your respective boats. I’ve been spending a considerable amount of time reading through threads in this forum – the good, the bad, and the ultra ugly. Getting your finger on the pulse of WvW can be difficult when there’s multiple perspectives on every issue. This is on me to sort through, and I want to make sure I do right by you guys.

In the meantime, please continue to provide feedback. This is essential. In case you’re wondering what I want for Valentine’s Day: I like lists, break-downs, and bullet points.

We’ll be talking about upcoming WvW stuff starting next week. Unfortunately, I can’t tell you what we’ll be talking about quite yet, but I figured at the very least I’d give you folks a timeline to go off of.

As an aside, we’re also expanding our bi-weeky livestream (Ready Up) to cover WvW in addition to PvP and balance. WvW will be the main topic on our next episode (1/31). I’ll officially announce the stream with a post next week sometime.

While Lich does a metric ton of damage, it’s also extremely telegraphed and on a rather long cooldown. If anything, Lich does an excellent job of area-denial – I’ll gladly vacate a point for 20 seconds or so to avoid it.

This is unrelated, but I remember a certain PvP team that ran 2 Lich necros and Time Warp mesmer (before the haste changes). It was brutal.

We’ve mentioned a few times prior that we’re looking at rebalancing the top-end of ranks to make them more attainable. We came to this decision after player feedback persuaded us to leave ranks into the game, rather than cut them.

The amount of rank points needed to hit 80 is too darn high.

The proposed changes to critical damage gear aren’t specifically PvE-focused, but focused rather on the stat weighting of critical damage itself. We’re not aiming to make crit damage unviable, just to bring it closer to other gear sets.

As for the first feature build, there will be other factors coming into play that could very well offset the changes, including reworked runes/sigils, the ability to use sigils in new combinations (including 2 on a two-handed weapon), and the profession balance changes. Just something to keep in mind.

To clear up the confusion, the balance updates will be in the next feature build – a build that adds features to the game. The next feature build will take place after the Living World season has finished. Today’s update added another chapter to the Living World story arc.

Here’s a quote from Colin’s blog post last year on the subject:

Due to the size and scope of the final four story releases in season one, the next round of major features will be bundled together into a large “feature only” release that will come after the first season of the Living World 2014 has finished. Once the story has completed, we’ll go into much greater detail on what’s to follow, but for now we want to focus on making sure our last four episodes shine.

The above is what we were referring to on the livestream with ‘feature build’. As I mentioned in my post on the PvP forums earlier today, previewing something on Friday and releasing it on the next Tuesday would give us an incredibly small amount of time to react to feedback – and that wouldn’t be fair to you.

The first ‘feature build’ as we’re calling it, won’t go live until the current Living World story arc wraps up. The next feature build will contain substantial PvP updates, the balance items we talked about on Friday, and hopefully even more things that we aren’t ready to talk about yet.

The scope of the balance changes going in is massive. Honestly, putting all of the changes we talked about on Friday straight into the game today would have been extremely kneejerk, and I’m sure many of you would agree that some of the changes needed additional eyes on them before they hit live. We want the time to go through the feedback and make adjustments, and we’re already doing that.

I’m sorry if we gave you the impression that there would be a balance update today – that was not our intent.

Thanks for the feedback, Countless. The whole reason we put the changes out ahead of time is so we can hear the arguments for and against the changes. If we didn’t care about feedback we’d just ninja the changes in on patch day.

When providing suggestions, keep in mind that we’d like to bring over existing stat combinations that exist in PvE/WvW already, but that doesn’t necessarily rule-out creating brand new stat combos. As we mentioned on Ready Up on Friday, the addition of ferocity could open up new combinations with critical damage as the heaviest stat.

Just something to keep in mind!

Got a question if you will, Josh. Lord Helseth mentioned on his TwitchTV (as well brought up by you guys at the first part of the Ready Up) Ferocity won’t actually make it into PvP. This means it will only stay in PvE/WvW and we PvPers are still left with Precision, thus thinking up new Amulets using Ferocity is a waste of time.

Is this true?

Ferocity will be in PvP – it will be weighted to keep the critical damage numbers relatively the same as they are now.
