Finals coming up soon! Stream Team (lots of familiar faces) vs Good Fights!
Hey mesmers,
For clarification: if you have 0-2 clones out and you dodge, you will summon a clone.
If you have 3 clones out and you dodge, nothing will happen.
@Sigil stacking – I guess we didn’t make it clear enough on stream – many of the sigils will be rebalanced to compensate for the ability to stack two of the same type.
aaaand he’s gone.
Not quite!
I’m still getting acclimated to the WvW team, and most recently I’ve been working with the balance team on the livestream we’ll be running tomorrow. (Which you’ll of course be watching, right?)
I actually ended up playing with dev in soloq… he was playing an ele and was doing fine O.o
Were you playing with Powerr? We won our first match-up in the 2v2 tournament last weekend with him playing D/D ele. He’s a great player.
As for elementalists, we’re not scared to talk about them, we just haven’t talked about any profession really (in regards to the next update). There are a bunch of changes coming down the pike for the entire game in general. I mentioned on the ele forums before the holidays that we think the main problem with elementalist is sustain – and that’s what we’re focusing on addressing. I mentioned on the ESL livestream today that our first step towards rectifying this is making Signet of Restoration function the same in PvP as it does in PvE.

:)
Very apt timing for this thread to appear as I’ve recently been enlisted by the WvW team.
What does this mean for you guys? I’ll be working closely with Devon and crew to act as the liaison between our development team and you – raising community concerns with the team, finding answers, being the good/bad guy, and whatever else!
For those wondering, I play engineer, I prefer to roam, I’m currently on JQ, and yes, I take bribes in the form of cookies.
Thanks for the answer, Josh.
Another Question: When can we expect the next balancing patch to be out?
Nice try. I don’t think we have a public date yet.
Personal question: Will a balance overview thread be posted in the forums?
They will be. We’re still fleshing out the exact changes which is why we’ll mostly be giving a high-level overview of where we’d like to take things. I don’t expect we’ll have the proposed notes posted until next week at the earliest.
Hey friends,
Fyi, I just posted the announcement for Ready Up in the Profession Balance forums.
Citizens,
This Friday at 2PM PST (22:00 GMT) we’ll be hosting another episode of Ready Up. I’ll be joined by Game Designers Jon Peters, Jon Sharp, Karl McLain, and Roy Cronacher.
In this episode we’ll be talking about a few of the things the Skills and Balance team is working on for the next balance update, including:
- Runes and sigil rework
- Critical damage changes
- New stat combinations for PvP (amulets)
- High-level overview of planned balance changes
You can catch the livestream at www.twitch.tv/guildwars2
As a heads-up, we won’t be running a Q&A segment during this show like previous episodes of Ready Up. However, feel free to leave questions/comments below and I’ll use them to guide our discussions on Friday.
We’ll see you then!
Would love to see some new teams in the ESL tournament this week. It is open registration!
If you don’t feel like playing (or can’t) join me in Twitch chat during the event!
All of the high-level weapon skins are available from the Mystery Coffers. This includes Dragon, Phoenix, and Shark.
A fix for this will going in with our next scheduled update.
As John mentioned previously, we don’t plan on retroactively awarding rank points for previous wins. We will, however, be rebalancing rank tiers to make them more attainable.
The abuse of Custom Arenas and the Skyhammer map in particular has been fixed.
We do not comment about account actions taken against players that violate our Rules of Conduct. If you feel that a particular player(s) is in violation of the Rules of Conduct, or would like to report an exploit, please send an email to exploits@arena.net with your report.
Locking this thread. Any additional threads with this same request may be closed.
We agree. There were some PvP-only changes for professions that made sense in a previous meta, but not so much now. I expect we’ll be looking very closely at some of these skills over the next few weeks.
Last Refuge is something we’ve been talking about quite a bit internally, and we certainly don’t like the way it can occasionally unintentionally punish players.
We’d like to keep the minor traits in Shadow Arts thematically the same (stealth based) rather than simply providing boons or something similar. Keep that in mind when you’re suggestions changes for Last Refuge.
Thanks for the feedback!
Grand finals coming up right now.
Tyler Chapman and I made it to the finals and got bodied by Caed and Tany. Very fun games!

The stream is live! Good luck, everyone.

This is the most comprehensive profession guide I’ve ever seen. I didn’t realize you were taking that many notes when I was teaching you how to play.
:)
Great work!
I said I’d update when I had more information! It looks like our next episode will be January 17th. We’ll have some of the balance guys on to talk about some of the proposed changes for the next balance update.
I’ll put a post up next week with all of the specifics.
We should have a fix for this included in the next update, barring any complications.
We haven’t really gone into depth on how luck will be used – I’m just saying that it will. I’m hoping we’ll be able to preview some of the new reward system soon.
It would be in your benefit to salvage the items from the chests for luck.
As Pyroatheist touched on, there are a lot of hidden mechanics to sigils that aren’t exactly clear to players – and this is something we’re going to change.
In the meantime, you can learn more about how sigils interact with each other at the Wiki.
After reading through the responses, I decided to log into our test client from home and try to reproduce some of the claims here. (This got me out of cleaning the kitchen, thanks guys.)
- Interrupted DT is going on a 6s cooldown rather than 4 – I stand corrected!
- As for DT doing no damage if you’re interrupted AFTER the cast finishes, I was unable to reproduce this. I tried CC’ing myself with Head Shot, Fear Me, and Earthshaker. I tried casting DT and interrupting subsequent casts (Fire Grab, for example) and I wasn’t able to get DT to fail, either. Every time I fully completed the cast the damage would land.

Hopefully this week or the next! I’ll post an update as soon as I know for sure.
I played with Dragon’s Tooth a bit after reading this post. If you cancel-cast Dragon’s Tooth or get interrupted in any way while casting it, the animation for DT will still complete, but it will not actually do damage. The skill will be put on a 4s CD rather than 6s. This is working kind of like how rez banner (Battle Standard) worked for warriors previously. So, in essence, the skill is doing damage when it should, but the animation can be misleading if you didn’t actually get the full cast off.
I’ll write myself a note to bring it up on Monday. Thanks!
Thanks for the responses, all. I’ve finished compiling my feedback.
If you’d like to start another thread on the topic, feel free.
I toyed around with an idea very similar to this before I joined ArenaNet. I think there’s something here, and I look forward to seeing what you can do with it. It seems like you have some decent support right out of the gate.
Drafting a clear and concise set of rules is going to be key!
Good luck!

Check out the sticky at the top of this forum titled “Lagging in sPvP? Report it here.” Following the directions there and providing the information requested is very helpful in diagnosing these types of issues.
Thanks!
I’ll be honest, I like tier lists, especially when they’re well-made. They’re an interesting insight into player perceptions at different levels of play (even if I think I have a decent grasp on it already!). I also accept that the lists are subjective and are often interpreted in various ways by different individuals.
I’d love to see a new version of this thread flourish, but I think it’s important that we provide context for the lists. Casting a wide net and saying “rate these professions!” is invariably going to cause some polarizing discussion, and I think it’s fairly obvious why. Instead of creating a tier list based off of professions, I think it would be more prudent to create a tier list that includes popular or ‘meta’ builds or even roles, considering that professions are able to be played in such different ways depending on how you build it. For example, there are a multitude of builds for engineer – some top-tier, and some low-tier, but they’re both under the engineer umbrella, and each provide varying levels of results.
Anyways, just my 2c! Try to keep things constructive.
Thanks for the suggestions, all. I’ll be compiling your feedback tomorrow when I go back into work, so if you’d like to suggest something before then, I encourage you to do so!
Hope everyone is having a Happy New Years!
We haven’t announced when the removal of the vendor will be, but we’ll make sure to give adequate warning beforehand.
If I’m understanding you correctly, you’re looking at the already condition duration modified tool-tips of Incendiary and Shrapnel. You should examine the traits before you invest the points into Explosives and modify the durations.
The base burn duration on Incendiary Powder is 4 seconds. Adding 30% condition duration from the Explosives traitline yields a 5 1/4 second burn.
The base bleed duration on Shrapnel (and Shrapnel Grenade) is 12 seconds. Adding 30% condition duration from Explosives makes it a 15 1/2 second bleed.
Hope this clears things up.

Most of the streams listed here are outdated/inactive, sadly. If you’d like to have your stream included in the “New to sPvP?” thread at the top of the forum, feel free to PM me with your details and I’ll get it added.
Stickied! Hope to see everyone there!
Great feedback so far guys! This kind of stuff is really useful for us. I’ll be checking back in daily to catch-up on the posts…In between vacation shenanigans, that is.
Good catch. I’m on vacation and losing track of time.
Next year!
We’d like to incorporate guilds into the ladder/season system when we come out with it next year, but nothing is very concrete yet. Personally, I think it would be awesome to look at the ladders and see guilds listed rather than individual players. That said, this could pose issues for more casual players who like to ‘team hop’ or pug about.
I’m probably opening myself up to some interesting suggestions, but imagine you’re in-charge of creating the ladder/season system.
- How would you design it?
- How would you incentivize teams to stay together?
- Would you penalize them for splitting?
- What types of rewards would you include for each ‘division’ on the ladder?
Note: I’m talking about futures seasons/ladders, not the current system.

If you’re experiencing lag, check out the thread stickied at the top of this forum and follow the instructions to report it.
A lot of the original Manvil Rockers moved to Jade Quarry.
Funniest thing I’ve ever heard in PvP?
Hard to say. Map chat in Anvil Rock’s Heart of the Mists at launch was like the wild west. I’m sure we could fill a few pages of quotes.
We should have a thread like this for each profession sepparatly aswell
a lot has been said but i think profession-oriented feedback threads could be an excellent next step into letting arenanet know what we think
could be extremely helfull for the balance team !
We’ll be doing something very similar to that next year. Probably around the time we get the new profession balance forum.
Nice work, Blu!
Elementalist: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Glyph_of_Renewal
Ranger: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Nature%27s_Renewal
Engineer: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Toss_Elixir_R
Can’t think of any others off the top of my head.
The good news is it’s a lot easier to breakdown chests without the salvage confirmation pop-up. I wish you and your wrists good luck.
Like I said on the thread you made for the previous update, this is an awesome way to present feedback – especially with the formatting.
I’ll make sure to keep this bookmarked and reference it in our first meetings next year. Thanks for keeping it constructive!
