While it isn’t a hack or a cheat, it’s still a part of the game that’s idiotic, and further unbalances a mode already in favour of the attacking zerg. Seeing 50 people come to your keep with Omegas and build ACs against your 6 defenders, while a “legit” tactic, is just pathetic, and it’s no wonder it puts people off.
I could be wrong, but I don’t recall ever hearing anyone complain that defensive siege was OP prior to this change being made.
But hey, gotta give the plebs their EZ mode.
Admittedly, people have been taking holidays, but that’s hardly the only cause of a number shortage. Maybe burnout, stagnation, lag has caused people to leave the game, maybe Gandara has plenty of fairweathers who refuse to play unless someone hands them their lootbags on a plate, maybe both, maybe neither. You’d have to ask the people who don’t play.
What I would say, OP, is don’t be so quick to criticise commanders. It’s a two-way street between commanders and players and, while some may be better than others, even the best commanders are reliant on the people who follow them, to actually follow, to listen, pay attention, drop skills when they should, and not do anything idiotic. Without that, a commander can’t do kitten. That applies to all servers, not just Gandara, but it’s something to consider for anyone who wonders why commanders may not want to tag up.
In the end though, WvW is a numbers game. If you don’t have numbers, your stuff gets capped. If your stuff always gets capped, fewer people try to defend, and fewer people log on. Then you have fewer numbers, and the cycle repeats.
Wow, losing one matchup and there’s two threads on the official forums by Sunday.
Yes, double-teaming sucks, but all servers double team sometimes. Some more than others, admittedly, but if you claim your server doesn’t, you’re wrong, and the more self-righteous you get about it the more ridiculous you look.
Let deso have fun with their duble team play
we dont need that to be best wvw server
No, you need greater coverage and karma trains. Not being salty, it’s just how it is, but it isn’t really something to brag about.
Oh, my mistake then. Evidently I hadn’t read the sticky thread thoroughly enough. It turns out the story is indeed progressing as planned so there’s no issue there.
It is still displaying Against The Corruption, Cathedral of Silence etc as level 70 missions however, hence my confusion, but that’s no biggie I suppose.
Thanks for the responses all
Hello,
I have just completed the level 80 personal story step The Steel Tide. However, rather than continuing onwards, I have been returned to the level 70 story step Against The Corruption.
My story journal only shows progress as far as Forging The Pact, though, obviously, I know I have progressed beyond that, and would prefer not to have to do it again.
I’d heard they drop from random enemies too, rather than just champion bags? It’d be nice to be able to get them from fights rather than PvD and the subsequent mad dash to tag the lord.
Honestly we should be able to get superior siege with WvW badges, as anything used in wvw should be obtainable from playing in wvw alone.
+1234567890. At least it’d be a reliable source too, rather than depending on RNG.
@Malediktus Have you had plenty of drops or are you going off what Anet said?
I feel like not enough is being said about the impact of the new spirit shards on superior siege crafting. Whereas before there was a guaranteed way of obtaining skill points for crafting them, it’s now largely down to RNG. Yes, you get 3 spirit shards for completing your dailies but you could easily use up the 21 shards you get in a week sieging up a keep once.
What are people’s thoughts on this? Are regular siegers and defenders annoyed?
From Anet’s perspective, is this a deliberate move to, for instance, lessen the prevelance of superior siege in WvW? Or a factor that they didn’t consider when implementing these changes? Or will the drop rate of spirit shards be common enough for the changes not to make much of an impact?
As others have said, right now it’s ridiculous that a zerg can simply place an AC on the outer corner of wall and clean the inside of a structure. If you try and damage or even disable it they can just nuke the kitten out of the wall.
Another option could just be to have the camera zoom/vertical positioning reset to default when using an AC.
If anyone is so against getting killed by other players that they feel the need to complain to Anet about it, they should go do PvE. There’s still plenty of events and no players to kill you. Otherwise, accept that occasionaly getting killed on a PvP map is the small price to pay for having endless karma and champion bags spoonfed to you for the minimum of effort.
With the upcoming importance of dolyaks in the upgrading of towers and such, dolyak [escort] mastery should become a thing.
Aren’t Dolyaks becoming less important with the upcoming changes? Structures will still upgrade with no Dolyaks, it’ll just be a lot slower.
I agree that they should be harder to kill though, right now it can be nearly impossible to save a yak even with a significant numbers advantage.
I’d be happy with a second siege masters guide that makes 10 at a time. Can’t be that difficult to implement, surely?
Well, you know.
They are adding a new PVE dinosaur-fueled god gun to the new map that breaks down all outer gates. Maybe this is Anet’s way of balancing one unnecessary garbage mechanic with another?
Whenever I feel down, I remind myself that someone at Anet thought “I know what WvW needs – dinosaurs” and suddenly I can’t stop laughing.
As for unstoppable auto-upgrades, yeah, that’s an absolutely horrid idea.
I opened a topic in the bug report forum, with screenshots. Seems to be happening only in EB, as far as I can see.
I saw it in BLs as well. Does it trigger a defense event?
Yep, which is what makes it irritating, especially in waypointed keeps. If it was guards just randomly having a fight it’d be fine.
Asurapult. Catapults Asura over walls to bypass defenses. Requires a Norn or Charr to activate.
Add a Ballista inside the structure and you have your minigame.
Quick question on this, as I missed the stream. Someone said to be that they’ll be replacing the three existing borderlands with one version of this new map, leaving two maps (this + EB) instead of four. Has this actually been said?
See if any of the servers have community websites/forums and join up to ask what it’s like on there for WvW. As Garambola said, if you don’t WvW then it doesn’t matter because Megaserver.
I think I read somewhere that the SAB will be back sometime in the future, but no idea when. I’m in the same boat as you, I fancy the King Toad GS.
As someone already said, it might not necessarily deter everyone from following a closed raid, but it’s a good idea and it’s hard to see a downside to it. It’d help organise the map and help players just joining the map to know what’s happening.
+1
Might not flip in primetime, but it will flip at some point. Waypointed keeps are usually prime targets for hungry blobs.
Cool, thanks for the reply.
Is there such a thing as a permanent custom PvP arena that can be purchased? I recall reading you can buy ones for 30 days for 200g, then pay 2g a day to keep using it, but is that it? For example, when guilds state they have private PvP arenas in their recruitment messages, is it those ones they mean?
Thanks in advance.
The top 6 of SFR, Deso, Kodash, JS, FSP and Gandara is fairly well established, but picking one out of Piken, BB, RS and AR is hard. As others have said, any one of those could beat any other on any given week, and/or push higher servers hard too.
If you’re going for rabid gear it’s probably worth buying the crafted (Draconic, Emblazoned or Exalted) armours from the TP. At around 1g a piece it’s a similar price to the WvW armour with the added bonus of being able to salvage it.
As for the perplexity runes, the reciple can’t be traded so unless you can find someone who has the recipe and offer to send them the materials for it, which might save you a couple of gold per rune, then you’re stuck with the TP again unfortunately.
Ony a WvW player is ever in danger of running out of skill points.
Sanctum Harbour in Lion’s Arch mainly. Has everything I need plus some rubble which is nice to jump on when I’m really bored, or queuing for a borderland. Despite this, I still nearly always run the wrong way when I spawn at the waypoint
How it was was just fine. It’s nice to be able to see the login reward track but why put it there? It’s only a minor thing but it’ll just get irritating having it there.
That in the PvE part of the expansion, players can get stomped by the monsters.
It’s about time that WvW leaked into PvE for a change. nods
Or make all Sylvari players in PvE killable by everyone else?
Often people in EotM don’t even try fighting. I’ve been in there with fairly big groups before and as soon as someone calls “inc” half of them run, waypoint or jump off the edge to avoid getting wiped.
Sure, I go in there with upscales to level them and sure it’s frustrating getting wiped, but it’s WvW, it happens. If everyone at least tried to fight when the fights came along then even if they lose they might learn something, and it might be them doing the wiping next time.
The lag issue seems to have reappeared for me in the last few days, so I’ll add my name to the list. Least it isn’t just me….
- Your location? UK
- Time and date of incident (plus time zone)? 18:00 GMT – 00:00 GMT, 16/01/15 onwards.
- Game World? Gandara
- Brief description of what you’re seeing? Skill lag, lag spikes, rubber banding, disconnects.
- Does the lag only happen while you’re in a PvP map? Does it also occur in the PvP lobby? Other maps? Experienced it in both WvW and PvE maps.
- How long does the lag spike last? Does it ever clear up? During the times stated it is pretty constant. Outside of those times the connection is fine.
- Of your last 5 GW2 play sessions, in how many of them did you experience lag? All.
- Are there specific times of day when do or you don’t experience lag? 00:00 GMT – 18:00 GMT no problems.
- When do you remember first experiencing lag of this severity in GW2? Had issues periodically but, of this incident, Friday.
- Do you also experience lag playing other games? NCsoft games like Wildstar? Don’t play them.
- Do you live in NA or EU? EU
- Are you playing on NA or EU servers? EU
- Was your account ORIGINALLY created on NA or EU? EU
Only PVE-players pops NOT-water fields in the pack of players while fighting Jormag
Is Jormag what you call the Bay veteran wurm on SFR?
Regarding the no waypoints suggestion, how about keeping the waypoints but making it so if you die you can only respawn in Citadel/EB Hill?
As a Gandaran player, I’d rather be matched against the higher ranked servers. There’s more fights, it’s more of a challenge and there’s more to do. We’ll lose the matchup, but so be it. Not like we’d get anything for winning.
As for the other matchups you’ve highlighted as being “broken”, the majority will probably be closer than you’re assuming. The scores now are already different than on the screenshot you attached.
The scores and ranks don’t tell the whole story.
Only a WvW player saves some of the pages of this thread for reading when scouting a tower.
Only a WvW player discovers Straits of Devastation just to gather Lemongrass.
Only a WvW player nips into the borderlands to use the bank, sees a keep contested and is still there 6 hours later.
Only a WvW player hears “big/small water” called, blasts and cries when “Area Might” appears.
