No Mordy fight in an xpac about Mordy is a deal breaker for me. I was not planning on pre-purchasing, but now I won’t even purchase on release until the Living World progresses to the point where he dies I guess. I don’t want a fragmented experience. I want to do it at my own pace whenever I feel like it.
And speaking of pace, if it’s gonna be 3 years to take down 1 dragon, we’ve got another ~12-15 years of GW2 just surrounding dragons to go. And given how quickly ANET abandoned GW1, it doesn’t look like GW2 will cover ALL of the Elder Dragons before it’s time to make GW3.
ANET made the mistake of making Ascended armor cost a ludicrous amount of gold. In GW1 you could buy max stat armor from Kamadan/Kaineng for a very small sum of gold. This meant that any changes to the meta were not as damaging to the time spent acquiring armor, as it could easily be changed. In GW2 stats matter. A lot. Nomad’s vs Berserker’s armor is a massive difference in kill speed.
I am against any changes that would force me to craft another ascended LIGHT armor set. A better approach would be to add stat changing to ascended armor, or make Legendary armor with stat changing, BUT only if existing ascended armor is required to make it.
I hate conjure weapons. I hope the ele specialization doesn’t focus on them. They’re just bad for reasons already stated:
• preventing access to 15 other skills
• only have 1-2 useful skills and then being dropped
• extremely long cooldowns
All maps give me (…) now. I do believe all have been megaservered.
If you don’t trust this system go to any random map and yell ‘what world are you from?’ At this point, you’ll get mixed replies from every world.
Developer confirmation is completely unnecessary for something you can verify yourself. I’d rather they work on Cantha.
Lol Cantha. That’s like Half-Life 3 pretty much…
Anyway, most people will remain oblivious to the fact that the megaserver is active everywhere due to ANET’s odd decision to enable hiding of foreign languages automatically. I literally had to ask how to turn it off because it’s HIDDEN in a part of the UI barely anyone ever notices or clicks.
Celestial is pretty much dead at this point. It was a nice all-round set when it had Magic Find on it, so you aren’t completely helpless… then they took that away and didn’t offer compensation to Celestial users.
The critical damage was the next best thing about it – now they’re taking that away as well, granted this time they are compensating somewhat, after a huge ruckus was made about it in dozens of threads.
But the bottom line is, you might as well make Soldier’s if you wanted Celestial for the defensive capabilities, whilst maintaining good damage output. I’m pretty sure I’ve seen someone on this forum already math out the Celestial vs. Soldier’s comparison and they were almost identical pre-Ferocity in terms of power. Which means, now Soldier’s will be the clear winner.
Well I currently have 10.5s recharge with 10 in arcana, so with 30 in arcana I would have like 8-9s recharge? I didn’t bother doing the calculation precisely, but 7 was close enough in my mind. Also I failed math in school. So yeah.
I was just thinking the other day that Elementalist doesn’t have an Elite Signet! Glad to see ANET actually came to the same conclusion)
The Active on it seems rather weak though… Recharge all attunements? On a 120s-180s cooldown?? (if it follows other Elites) That’s practically useless. Especially since attunements can be lowered to like 7s with proper traiting.
The Passive has potential… I’m definitely looking forward to it, since it will provide benefit in every single situation. Unlike the rest of the Elites which are completely useless while on cooldown.
Also, I 100% expect FGS to be nerfed in that patch (which will force people to switch to the new Elite) but also because too many non-eles are crying about it being overpowered. And ANET loves nerfing Ele when people complain of its power (RtL anyone?). But rarely nerfs Warrior coz so many people play that class, and they wouldn’t want to alienate their players, now would they
1. Elementalist
2. Ranger
3. Engineer
From a mehanical point of view, ANET cannot alter events and storyline steps because they need to be repeatable for new characters, and they have flat out refused to add 2 versions of maps because it would split the community… This poses a serious problem for the Living World – Orr, for example can never be restored, even though you do purify it at the end of the Personal Story. But there’s people who aren’t that far yet so they will have to keep it all ruined and infested forever, or it wouldn’t make sense for these people.
Same thing with events – why haven’t Zhaitan’s minions lost power or diminished in numbers after his defeat? Because for a huge % of the people he’s still alive as they haven’t bothered finishing the personal story!
These inconsistencies, make a Living World really just a failed concept when it comes to MMOs.
The search feature on this site doesn’t really work. At least I’ve never seen it work and always get “no results found” even when I search for a thread that’s on the first page. So yeah, it’s broken.
Exp means explorable mode
While heaps of players ignore the LFG descriptions, typing ‘experienced’ rather than ‘exp’ might stop the occasional player who thinks ‘exp’ = ‘explorable’.
I can confirm that most people think “exp” means EXPLORE, not EXPERIENCE. It’s pretty annoying really, most of the time they will even ignore you if you try to explain to them that they’ve joined the wrong group.
Not to mention there’s people who don’t know what AP means, so saying something like 5k+ only, means absolutely NOTHING to them, and they’ll happily ignore it and join with 800 AP.
If they can allow change to our legendaries, why not this as well?
Because GW2 is about grinding stat combinations and because they plan to make you grind for Legendary trinkets soon if you want to have the stat switching ability. There’s 6 trinket slots, which includes the backpiece, so you’ll have a lot of grinding to do!
PS: The Suggestions forum is permanently closed, that’s why you cannot post there.
If they worded it this way, it likely means they don’t want to tell you exactly what they did. From what I’ve heard other players say, the 10s invulnerability during the start of phase 2 has been removed?
That’s not an explanation for why Tequatl grew stronger after Zhaitan’s death though… unless I’m missing something?
I’m sorry to say but this is how it’s always been. Probably some limitation that ANET can’t get around.
On a semi-related note, the Light of Dwayna still can’t be infused… kinda annoying considering how ridiculously expensive it is.
Mounts could bypass jumping puzzle mechanics (especially if they’re flying mounts), and if they don’t, then they wouldn’t really be realistic or useful in any way.
As mentioned already, the WP system allows you to travel across the entire map in seconds
Any open world chest, like a JP’s chest, gives some Empyreal’s to lvl 80’s. It’s a farmable item for certain.
Not completely true. A ton of open world chests do not give fragments. Including puzzle chests like the Hidden Garden, and the chest behind the Champion Krait in Sparkfly Fen near Tequatl. Also Diessa Plateau – only 1 of the chests there seems to give fragments, and there’s at least 3 puzzles…
Also, 10 mins of concentrated jumping for 2-4 fragments is hardly a decent way to make fragments.
Secondly, we now have an achievement called “Worm Slayer” (kill 5000 worms) and one called “Wormslayer” (new mega boss achievement). Sloppy! The new achievement should’ve been called something different as well.
Worm is not the same as Wurm.
Worm – a normal worm
Wurm – a giant worm
Wyrm – a dragon, nothing to do with worms
You would be surprised how often players with over 10k AP join and don’t know how to do CM path 2 properly…. happened yesterday, with a 14k AP player.
I’ve never had problems with Dragonite Ore and I only do Tequatl and Karka daily. That’s 75 ore. If I ever need more I can just repeat Karka multiple times in a single day, as the chest can be looted by the same character for extra ore.
My problem are the Empyreal Fragments. I hate dungeons. I really REALLY HATE dungeons. The PUGs are just terrible at them and I can’t be bothered explaining it every single day for every single path. Worse still, in Europe a metric ton of people don’t know English, which makes it even harder to communicate dungeon strategies.
If anything, I would say we need more ways to get decent quantities of empyreal fragments. But this thread proves things are perfectly balanced as they are. Because different people have different results – some need more dragonite, some need more fragments. It all depends on how you play your game I guess. Did I mention I hate dungeons? >.>
Ascended should have just been Legendary Armor/Trinkets with stat switching ability and unique visuals and particle effects, but equal to exotic in terms of stats.
And before someone says that Ascended fills a gap between Exotic and Legendary – no, it doesn’t. Before ascended, Legendary had EXOTIC stats. It was only just a skin as it was meant to be.
This isn’t any different from discounting Bank Slots, Character Slots, Bag Slots, Transmutation Crystals, etc, etc, etc… Only this time, the discount doesn’t come directly from ANET, but rather the economy crashing the prices on the items.
I love it, as it means I can pick up some of the dyes I’ve wanted at more acceptable prices, and also I stocked up on a few dyes for when the promotion ends and prices shoot back up again. If you don’t understand any of this then I have nothing but contempt for you.
I will commend ANET on the story instance this time. Finally, we’re seeing some actual storytelling with character development. Hopefully this keeps up.
However, the way to these instances still feels disconnected. A single pointer in the upper right side of your screen telling you to go to Lornar’s Pass is just not enough. I want to see cutscenes with the Orders giving out commands and strategies to the players to go out and aid Marjory and the others in Lornar’s Pass. I want to hear them discuss HOW they obtained information that Scarlet is going to fly over Lornar’s Pass exactly this week.
“Go to this waypoint” is not enough for me.
I don’t know guys… looks more like Tequatl to me.

We still haven’t gotten an explanation as to WHY it got stronger after Zhaitan’s death.
I’m fairly certain ANET hasn’t thought about the consequences to Celestial when choosing to change critical damage to Ferocity. Their main focus was the Beserker META. So they probably overlooked the other sets entirely.
The fact that there’s no response still, and there’s been 4+ topics on this( all merged now), suggests that they know about our concern, but don’t have anything concrete to say yet.
…
to simplify i will not include the trinkets or back slot since there are no exotic celestial of this kind.
…
Wrong. There is exotic celestial gear for the trinkets slot. The recipe was added with the Bazaar of Four Winds patch. Here’s the wiki link for the pieces: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Exquisite_Charged_Quartz_Jewel
I was really looking forward to making ascended celestial armor, but I think this is the final nail in the coffin of nerfs that made me change my decision.
• first: Celestial armor requires Charged Quartz, which is an additional non-skippable time-gated material over all other sets in the game
• second: removal of Magic Find from gear provided no stat buff to the rest of the stat split on Celestial
• third: Ascended Celestial has no increase in critical damage over Exotic… even though they’re removing it as a stat, we still got hosed on it.
• fourth: changes to critical damage now will convert to even less stats for Celestial compared to the Ferocity that will be on Berserker.
Conclusion: Celestial gear is not worth crafting anymore. Its requirements are above and beyond all other sets, yet it’s substantially worse than anything else. Don’t even get me started on the fact that light ascended celestial requires 11-12 ADDITIONAL days to craft compared to medium and heavy ascended.
It has been like this since Closed Beta. ANET have not expressed any plans on ever fixing it. There have been many threads about it…
I never got why people thought there would be steam creatures. That hidden boss after FE doesn’t mean anything.
As far as the fractal, and my choice, yes I am very happy.
Lol. Clearly you missed the whole point of the place if you think the hidden boss has no meaning.
Look closer and you’ll see the creatures phasing in and out of existence. They also get a dazed buff which has a description of “This creature has been displaced from it’s original location” (or something like that) when they appear. This means they come from a different reality or spot in the world. Also strange portals appearing in all the reactor’s rooms spewing black creatures. Finally, the secret boss event is called Defeat the Misplaced Steam Ogre, indicating that all these things are linked somehow.
Every creature was misplaced. If it was a unicorn would you assume that the reactor must be tied to them somehow?
Try watching this video if you haven’t already. It explains it better than I can evidently, as you seem to be missing the point:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oiMFEqz3GQ4
But to answer your question: Yes, even if it was a unicorn that had the “misplaced” buff on it, I would consider it being related to the reactor.

This is probably the best writing since the Bazaar of Four Winds. Minus Scarlet being shoehorned into all of this…
It’s a shame that 90% of the people won’t even see this dialogue between Dessa and Kiel, because they exit the instance as soon as they get the final chest and the achievement. I even got kicked out since the instance owner left before the dialogue had played out. So I missed out on most of it. :/
I can understand that there’s logic behind the design of Scarlet – she is a Sylvari, the youngest, most impressionable race. This means that Sylvari are likely to commit acts that may appear as evil to the older races who have already established a sense of culture., all just to satisfy an interest that she fancied at the time. Unfortunately, her presentation has been less than stellar because of that.
…introduce new modes for the hardcore, not absurd grindcore for the masses.
They could easily have made ascended armor have the exact same stats as exotic, and just have it be the equivalent of legendary weapons/FoW armor from GW1. In other words, just prestige and looks for those that want to spend the time on it.
But unfortunately, the complaining WoW crowd ruined the whole idea of Guild Wars with their constant whining that there’s no endgame, nothing to do, no content etc..
Movement speed bonus in towns when wearing town clothing. (stacks with all other forms of movement boosts)
I don’t post often, but I’ll reiterate my understanding of the Living World concept anyway:
[The Living World Concept and the Expansion Model]
• ANET, you’ve stated before that you can deliver all the content a traditional expansion would contain via means of the Living Story.
• You’ve also stated that you’re not sure which approach you want to take – whether it would be a traditional expansion or slowly adding all the things that make up one through the Living Story.
It’s been a year now and you’ve added one permanent new area, and one permanent new skill (from today’s update in fact). Don’t you think it’s time to decide which direction you want to go in?
- Living World only serving as filler content between major boxed/digital download expansion releases
or
- Living World truly expanding the epic of Tyria in an episodic format that actually progresses the main plot of the game and leads up to new regions and landmasses of the world.
For the latter, I wrote a short example (in another thread) of how you can accomplish it. I’ll expand on it here. I’m sure you’ve already considered it yourselves but here it is anyway, laid out for you, with ideas on how you can connect things even:
[Route 1: The Campaign against Kralkatorrik]
• Start by opening the gate to the Crystal Desert (in the Fields of Ruin) and adding the “corridor” area that will connect Ascalon and the desert itself. For this segment of the Living Story you’ll have Zojja rallying Destiny’s Edge and its supporters to begin the campaign against the next Elder Dragon. Now, since you want to keep releasing new content every 2 weeks, obviously it wouldn’t be feasible to keep adding a new area so often. So, how about a new area every other month? Release the first after you’ve build up several areas in advance, just so you’re ahead in case something unexpected occurs.
• 4 episodes: the above means you’ll have four Living Story segments to play with before moving onto the next area. They don’t all have to be inside that new area, however they can easily be related to it (e.g. to prepare for the journey, the leading characters need to revisit the relevant dungeons to obtain artefacts/keepsakes to help them in the battles ahead; this means you can revamp the other dungeons at this time, while keeping the plot relevant to the main story of GW2). Then you can have a segment focusing on the securing of the new area from the Branded so you can advance forward… etc.
• Arrival at Glint’s Lair: an obvious choice to GW1 players. This would be the next area of the Crystal Desert. Can easily be added as a Living Story of its own. Episodes centered around the aftermath of Kralkatorrik’s meeting with its former Lieutenant. Exploring the ties to the Zephyrites even further, and learning more about Glint’s legacy. You can even have Scarlet crash on the party and explore more of her motives, making her less of an obvious filler villain and more relevant to the story.
[Route 2: The Unending Ocean]
For whatever reason NCSoft doesn’t allow you to work on Cantha. We get it. But, if they ever did give you the green light here’s how that could go:
• Opening of the Dominion of Winds – introduction of the new Tengu race. All about the Tengu finally opening up to the rest of the races and sharing their knowledge of new weapons and skills!
• Transportation to Cantha – through the ancient Tengu arts of the Winds players “ride the currents” to arrive on a small island off the coast of Cantha.
• First few areas of the continent will be in the style of the Bloodtide Coast (lots of water with a few island masses inbetween). Take this opportunity to revamp underwater combat (from scratch preferably). Introduction of new threats, enemies, maybe even a new dungeon that connects the island to the Canthan mainland via an underground passage sneaking into Kaineng City..?
I could go on, but I’m skeptical that any ANET person would even read this far so I’m just gonna go to bed now. In conclusion I just want to say that these are just 2 directions you could take with the Living World that accomplish your idea of expansions delivered through content updates, while at the same time creating a sense of an ever-growing, exciting, and living world, which is how I envisioned it when you outlined your plans for the game.
Since ANET really likes adding essential items like transmutation crystals and splitters to the gem store, can we please get an item that removes infusions from equipment as well?
Backstory:
I have a magical infusion on The Golden Lotus and I’d like to remove it without destroying the amulet or the infusion.
Now that I’m forced to repurpose the amulet’s stats, I think it would be best to move the magical infusion onto a Celestial amulet. But I already have one of them. I don’t need a 2nd… what should I do? I don’t want to just grind out a new magical infusion either. I thought ANET said there will be “as little disruption as possible” (source). Making me grind 20 laurels for a new infusion is not “little disruption”.
I’d like to know what resolution that is. Looks higher than 1920×1080. Even at small UI. Which btw, is impossible to read TP text with (ever since beta), and has not been fixed yet.
Actually, this happens in many many places across Tyria. I noticed it while doing my 100% exploration with various NPCs all over the place. Of course I didn’t really take notes of any of these occurrences as I simply attributed it to lack of polish, that will likely never see a fix.
I thought about making my own thread to post the following idea, but might as well use this one:
What if the Living World story worked for both the dragons and these seemingly pointless filler arcs? The way I would have designed it is as follows:
Let’s say our next Elder Dragon fight is against Kralkatorrik.
• Release 1 new zone per month – start with opening the gate in Fields of Ruin, next to Ebonhawke, to enter the first area of the Crystal Desert.
• The Living Story will revolve around Zojja trying to gather Destiny’s Edge and other supporters to begin the campaign against Kralk.
• Next month release the 2nd area of the Crystal Desert – the story advances by having new threats appear to hinder the progress of the campaign. For example: Scarlet’s Invasion COULD have been placed here. This would give us plot points about her motives and such.
• Continue expanding the Crystal Desert with 1 zone per month adding new mini-stories that may or may not be directly linked to Kralk, but by being in the way of the campaign against him, they are a problem that needs to be overcome.
• The Dragon’s Lair could get a month of it’s own for example: the place where Glint resided in GW1. More story about her ties with Kralk, and the Zephyrites…
This system also fulfills ANET’s vision of “expansions”. They’d actually be releasing all the things you’d normally find in an expansion, via Living Story instead: new areas, new skills, progress to the main story against the dragons, possibly even new races if they chose to start from Dominion of Winds for example (the Tengu).
same here, now we just lost the map because Hydra queen still broken (after months).
Do I need to wait for a server reset to complete my achiev cuz we have a boss broken there?
Hydra Queen is not broken. It just has ridiculous and unintuitive requirements. Lots of waiting between pre-events. And people just don’t know how to do it properly.
I made a complaint thread about it in the Dynamic Events forum a few months ago, but ANET still hasn’t changed the way that stupid meta works.
Yep, and it’s coming to the BLTC one day. Someone on reddit dug up the info from the game’s .dat file.
I don’t think it’s worth it. Here’s why:
• I only use Basic Salvage Kits on white items. I sell blues and greens to the merch.
• I still have to carry a Mystic Salvage Kit for rares.
• And I still need a Black Lion Salvage Kit for exotics (due to their runes/sigils), or Aetherized/Fused Metal Scraps that have chances for really valuable materials.
EDIT: The Infinite Gathering Tools were different because they were the highest tier possible, and allowed you to mine/log/harvest any node with no negative consequences. The infinite salvage kit does have negative consequences: lower rate of rares and the upgrades part.
Achievement points were a bad idea from the get go. Just the other day in LA there was a guy shouting the following:
lfm AC all paths. People under 5000 AP will be kicked!
And drama ensued…
Salad? Don’t make me laugh when all of the other races can be turned into sausages.
Also, let me set a few things straight:
If the sylvari were dragon minions, they’d be corruptible. They’re not corruptible.
If Ventari’s tablet guided the Pale Tree differently than intended, Malyk would not be a fairly decent person by Ventari’s standards.
Dragon minions CORRUPT. They do not grow, they corrupt. Primordus corrupts stone and lava, Kralkatorrik corrupts people and land with crystalline corruption, Jormag corrupts people and is able to corrupt snow as well, Zhaitan corrupts people, corpses, god statues and temples, and an entire undead nation. The Pale Tree grows. It does not corrupt humans or charr into a sylvari, the Tree grows a sylvari in a pod until they are born.
As an end result, whether the sylvari is Trahearne or Scarlet, they are unable to be corrupted by any known Elder Dragon’s influence. They simply die.It is interesting that they are incorruptible but it is more likely that they were created to fight the Dragons by an ancient and long dead race than being Dragon minions themselves.
Except that sylari ARE corruptable. The Nightmare Court can corrupt them. Just like Svanir corrupt norn into more svanir, etc.
Thanks for all the suggestions! Using the Fiery Greatsword with 1047 condition damage worked wondefully!
I’ll get right to the point – I only play elementalist. Anyone have suggestions on getting this achievement?
To my understanding the situation is:
Both Crude Salvage Kit and Basic Salvage Kit are of basic rarity. However, the new gem store kit is supposed to be an endless Basic Salvage Kit (88c at merchant), but ends up functioning as a Crude Salvage Kit (32c at merchant).
So either there’s a bug or ANET’s needs to word it better..
Hope hangs on champion loot fixing people’s motivation to do that world boss along with others. As it stands, it’s far too time-consuming and difficult for the lousy 2 rares reward it gives. Can easily do at least 3 other world bosses in that time.
I think they already answered why it will never happen – it’s because race is tied to your personal story and they can’t just swap your whole story by changing your race.
