Southsun JP Gone? Under New Management

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Just a flesh wound.3589

@JaFW: I logged in a toon on each of my accounts there last night. Got in, found no chest, logged out. Perhaps Anet added the kicked-out action afterwards?

If Southsun’s still broken, I’ll just run my toons over to the chest in the cave by Lake Feritas (sp?) until this is fixed.

It was a couple of days back. Perhaps I logged in when the map was offline and got kicked to LA for that reason.

I’m liking these account bound waypoints. It only took one play period to get all unlocked and now I can jump in to the map on any alt and play the whole map without needing to do waypoint runs. That, the waypoint runs, was a problem for me in the HoT maps. I didn’t want to bring a new alt to those maps when I only wanted to play so I stuck to the ones that had the waypoints already unlocked. I hope ANet has these account wide waypoints on all their new maps from now on.

Business Model Clarification

We want to be clear about our business model for future expansions now that we are approaching our first paid expansion for Guild Wars 2. We believe that to keep the game dynamic and vibrant with a constantly growing community, it should be as easy as possible for new players to get into Guild Wars 2. For Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns, we didn’t want the core game’s price to be a factor in a new player’s decision to begin playing Guild Wars 2. In the future, if we release further Guild Wars 2 expansions, we plan to offer all of the prior expansions, the core game, and the latest expansion for one single purchase price.

I will define it as false advertising if any of those 16 legendary weapons attatched to the legendary journies entry is put behind a 2nd expansion paywall.

Then I guess you’ll have to do that because they are unlikely to finish a set before the next expansion and imo the next Legendaries will require the new expansion since they’re going to want people to play the new content, not the old.

They’ve already stated that the remainder of the Second set of Legendary weapons will not require the new expansion. They will be available to anyone who owns HoT when they’re ready.

They’ll need the various Gifts from HoT I presume.

New expansion is released.
New Legendaries are released.

Cue multiple forum threads complaining about needing to leave the new expansion to go play in the old one to get the various, required HoT Gifts and how it’s impossible with no one on those maps.

As long as we still get the Legendaries and if they explicitly stated that the rest of the 2nd gen legendarys will only require HoT, then if they take a bit longer and come out next year, I’m not seeing the problem. You’ll still get the Legendaries even if you don’t buy the next expansion and are stopped at the HoT expansion.

Not everyone in Guild Wars 2 was going to have access to legendary journies and you know it. So adding the weapons to the game meant HoT

And when the next expansion starts in two months are so and new Legendaries are “added to the game” without a big blog post announcing them but don’t require HoT but do require the new expansion, how will you define ‘the game’ then?

The game is just a term meaning gw2, the game. When the new expansion drops the announcements will still say ‘added to the game’ when new things are added to any part of it.

Edit: how would you phrase it if something is added to the game but not added only to HoT timeline but will continue to be added in the new expansions?

“until the full set of sixteen has been added to the game”……… What game are they talking about when this statement was released? Wasn’t the core game…… Wasn’t a second expansion because that didn’t exist….. seems to me to be HoT. Remember legendary journies was a much hyped part of HoT and this 16 number was attatched to the legendary journies entry( legendary journies being a HoT thing and all)

I will say again that buyers should be wary when Anet starts giving you features for the next expansion.

I read ‘the game’ as Guild Wars 2. That’s what I mean when I say “the game.” If I mean HoT I say HoT.

I would say this https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/hot-new-legendary-weapons/ followed by O’Brien’s update implies they were part of HoT.

Doesn’t actually say though.

we will be releasing new legendary weapons in small groups at regular intervals until the full set of sixteen has been added to the game.

Regular intervals are not intervals that are short. It just means there is some schedule of planned release. That schedule doesn’t necessarily fall within this expansion.

Actually Anet said a set of 16 new legendaries with HoT

Not with HoT. The 16 legendaries were stated to be post-launch content, which would be released in small groups at regular intervals until the full set was complete.

But HoT is needed to make them right? so.. should they not finish HoT content before they release some new expansion?

There’s no reason to think that Legendaries released with the new expansion will require HoT. Just like the new Legendaries required HoT instead of central Tyria, any new ones released with the new expansion should require that.

Yeah. I’ve been using a teleport-to-a-friend to get to the new maps and wait till the guides come out to do the story since for me, figuring out all those little tricks is more aggravating than fun.

why do you even play the game if its all not fun to you
That 1 puzzle is just a tiny part of the instances and you arent under pressure while solving it…. you dont even have to understand it you can most likely solve it just by trying

And why do you do the achievements if you dont actually do them but just use 100% guides so you dont actually achieve anything yourself…

I understand if some people use dulfy for tedious achievements if they tried and cant do it themselves or cant find the last hidden items
But people who dont even bother at all to achieve anything and just instantly go to dulfy
I dont even understand what they play the game for anymore

No fun if there is no challenge

why do you even play the game if its all not fun to you

Are you actually saying everyone has to enjoy everything or else not play the game?

And why do you do the achievements if you dont actually do them but just use 100% guides so you dont actually achieve anything yourself…

Who said I was using the guide to get the achievements? Perhaps you could read what I actually wrote. “wait till the guides come out to do the story I’m using the guide to get past all the special tricks in order to see the storyline as the special tricks to progress the storyline aren’t interesting to me.

I understand if some people use dulfy for tedious achievements if they tried and cant do it themselves or cant find the last hidden items
But people who dont even bother at all to achieve anything and just instantly go to dulfy
I dont even understand what they play the game for anymore

(More words where you showed that you didn’t read what was said but instead commented on what you imagined was said)

Really, some people….
If the tricks and puzzles are fun for you, then great. But they’re not going to be fun for everyone. If someone wants to bypass a boring part of the story instances by using a guide it’s no skin off your nose. It’s entertainment not a job, and boring parts of entertainment can be bypassed.

Are the new weapon skins seriously 2 tickets?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Just a flesh wound.3589

Just a flesh wound.3589

Normally I can see the upside for a company for a decision but this cuts the value of Black Lion chest keys. Getting tickets is a major motivation for buying keys and halving the value of the tickets means keys are that much less desirable as the buyer needs twice as many to get the same number of new weapons.

Right now I have 3 tickets that used to be worth 3 new weapons, and now are only worth one weapon and maybe another in some unknown future time. That’s a pretty hefty devaluation.

If he wants it then he is free to get it the same way everyone else did. They are a thank you for plying GW1. Not a thank you for playing GW2.

The argument is as silly as someone demanding they have the pre order bonuses for a game they bought after launch, or buying the standard edition and demanding the items from the special edition. Do you understand now? You wouldn’t demand these things would you? That basicly what these things are. Or to look at them another way, they are bonus items for carrying over your game from the first game. You can’t get them any other way.

I hope you can now see why there is resistances from people about this. As it’s not just people who played GW1 for years to get these, but also the people who bought GW1 after to get these items that would be really annoyed by this. How would you like it if you went an spent some time and money to get something on for everyone else to be handed it? You’d be angry right?

Those are two different things. Just like GW 1 and 2 are two different games. Pre-order bonuses would also be IN the game that they are playing. The pre-order or deluxe bonuses are available in the Gem Store. There should be a way for GW 2 players to get ANY skin in the game, within the game, and also keep the crossover way through HoM.

I don’t think OP is asking for the sword skin to be handed to them, they just want a way that is within the game they are playing. Why not make that way very difficult? Even harder than buying GW 1 and getting points? But the OP probably wouldn’t mind the hard work, because they will have fun doing it IN the game that they chose to play.

For me, it’s because ANet told us there would never be a way to get these in gw2. That they were a reward to us vets for playing gw1, a consolation for losing all our account progress by switching games and a thank you for supporting them all these years.

Now I know that some people will say that that was years ago but imo, it was a promise to us that these rewards would be special to gw1 vets and just because time has passed by doesn’t make a promise less than a promise or something that can be broken because it’s convenient for the game.

They’ve always started at one ticket to the best of my memory then went up after the next new set was introduced.

These BL weapons have lost a lot of their value on the trading post due to how many get and sell them, so my guess is they’re trying to increase their value by decreasing supply.

The HoM rewards are a consolation reward for all the people who lost hours of account progress and well loved characters when they shifted over to this game because ANet decided to stop updating the game they were playing and make a new one. It’s purpose back then was not for new players to unlock items for this game, even though it’s allowed. In fact, before gw2 began there some talk of not letting new players get these rewards. It’s only later that it was decided to keep the HoM open and available for all who want to try for the rewards.

So, it was made to reward gw1 vets for playing and supporting the game for all those years and as something they could have for leaving their old accounts and characters behind. For that reason, it’s not appropriate for ANet to change the rewards and hand them out to all who haven’t played gw1.

Please use better design that respects inventory room when making events that require a token to get paid for doing the event, that is, the 10 different bounty notices. After getting the achievement most players will be doing these events on a casual basis when they see the events get called out in map chat and they won’t have the specific bounty notice for that event (worth 25 silver) in their inventory. Maybe instead the player can get the bounty notice as a reward for doing the event.

Gemstore Items: Questions/Assists

Just a flesh wound.3589

Businesses can use statistics on various selling models from other games and brick and mortar stores to see buyer’s responses to scarcity, both artificial and real, and non scarcity to see what model brings in the most money. They teach this sort of thing, using statistics and models, in college to business majors.

While “businesses” can, my point was ANET has not.

It is impossible to guess what sales one missed while the product was not offered for sale. ANET has never had a longrunning continous offer of several products to establish such a baseline. I’ll offer as example nearly half of the glider skins, or perhaps an even greater portion. They have been made available for a short period of time and then are gone.

Well if ever ANet decides that their system isn’t bringing in the money that is projected by the business model then I’m sure they’ll change it, possibly to one where items stay longer in the gemstore.

While having account bound harvesting tool slots would be nice, I’m not sure if demand would be enough to pay the price ANet’s going to want to charge. People who want QoL on harvesting tools already have account bound slots now. All they have to do to switch between chars is to remember to open the inventory at beginning and end of the play period and click on the tools in the account bound slots to equip/unequip. My guess is the gemstore price will be 1500-2000 gems for the 3 slots. Is there now enough people willing to spend 1-2 thousand gems instead of switching through the inventory account bound slots? It would be a QoL but the time and effort saved is minimal for the price.

Just a flesh wound.3589

A while back when Shared Inventory Slots were introduced many players thought you could use them for infinite gathering tools, but as we know they don’t work when put inside them, so it is not much better than using the bank.

They are a lot better than using the bank

Using the bank
1) waypoint to nearest bank
2) run to bank
3) unequip tools, put in bank
3) switch chars
4) waypoint to bank
5) run to bank
6) take tools from bank, equip tools

Using account wide slots
1) open inventory
2) click on non permanent tools in account wide slots which places permanent tools there
3) switch chars
4) click on permanent tools in account wide slots which equips them

Now account wide slots may not be perfect for this but it’s certainly far better than using the bank to switch.

I come up with a solution to the whole problem, yet instead of writing critique on that you argue on how much shared slots are superior to using the bank to move gathering tools?

Then don’t use hyperbole to make a false point. Stick to true statements and you won’t have people pointing out that what you said was false.

Otherwise I don’t see a problem with your design. It could work as stated.

I’ll give you false statement. I said “not much better” which can mean anything. As for you, your rant only applies if you have 3 free slots, if you have less you would have to do multiple relogs. Unless you remove some items from other slots, but then you would have to relog anyway to put them back in place. You also forgot about going to WvW to reach the bank. Finally some people have a little something called Permanent Bank Access Express, in which case the bank becomes superior to the 3 free shared slots.

1) it’s part of your OP and it’s part of the argument you were using to say that account bound slots are insufficient
2) since it’s part of your argument for the need for this item then it’s fair game to point out that it’s false for all who don’t own a permanent bank access and not necessarily true for those who do (I own a permanent bank access and for me the account wide slots are still better than using it).

May I suggest that in the future that you don’t bring up points in your OP that are both not true and that you do not wish to discuss, as everything that’s in your opening post is fair game for discussion.

Aha I knew it you are trolling. Because I do in fact have a Permanent Bank Access Express and I know for a fact that the bank is better than a Shared Inventory Slot. Because you can move things in and out the bank by double-clicking which is much faster than pulling it from one slot to another.
So you clearly have no idea what you are talking about. You just came here to annoy me, which I suspected from the start.

Actually it’s not faster

To use the bank access
1) open inventory
2) click on each non permanent tool in inventory to switch with permanent tool
3) click on bank access
4) click on each permanent tool to send off

To use tools from the slots
1) open inventory
2) click on each non permanent tool in account bound slots to switch

It’s 2 more steps to use the bank access (open up the bank and send the item off).

Edit: which is much faster than pulling it from one slot to another.
you’re not opening up the hero panel and dragging the tools in order to switch are you? You can click on the tools in the account bound slots to switch from permanent/nonpermanent.

Shared Tool Slots

That’s the foefire leaking out. ANet wrapped cursed human ghosts up in it to get that effect.

Personally I’m going to wait till I see it to decide. One still screenshot of someone holding it on their shoulder isn’t enough information for me.

Why did ArenaNet abandon Elder Dragon bosses

To go back to the OP’s post. One force of nature dragon can be an interesting storyline but after that, what can the other dragons do to be different and interesting? How many dragon forces of nature can the hero kill before it becomes the same story over and over? And, imo, that’s the problem with this game’s elder dragon story. The dragons aren’t distinct enough to have a truly separate and interesting storyline for each. Each is powerful, has lieutenants, minions, and corrupts those around it. The dragon story is the same story over and over. Only the details of how to reach and kill each one will differ. (And of course Taimi will pull a Deus ex Machina out of her back pocket to fix the overwhelming odds against us, which is another example of bad storytelling caused by the power differential).

Which is why if ANet is putting the dragons aside to explore other storylines, such as Palawa Joko, or Cantha or one of the other race’s stories, I think it’s a good idea.

It’s been a couple of years since I’ve seen this video so I might have been using the term “force of nature” wrong myself, but the term force of nature when referring to an antagonist in a video game doesn’t refer to anything like tornados or earthquakes.

Here is the extracredit video about force of nature villians.

Regardless of whether or not they can act in a rational sentient manner, the problem is the power discrepancy and what that does to the story. If a dragon can devastate the ground underneath by merely flying overhead then the story is going to have to require the dragon to either sit in one place and wait to be attacked or to act in an irrationally restrained manner because there’s no way the 5 races can take on elder dragons that are proactive. This forces the imposition of a non reactive storyline where the dragon sits or does little (behaves like a force of nature), which means that there’s only so much the writers can do with the story. The dragons have to sit and wait. They can’t fly far out of our reach. They can’t attack directly in a substantive way and they can’t combine forces, except weakly.
