What? You can’t see yourself bounding across the desert on a corgi?

Here’s a couple of pics to help your imagination. And remember, gemstore Lion Manes (for only 800 gems) will fit corgis also. Just imagine yourself on a stubbylegged, tailless, tongue lolling lion mount and everything becomes much clearer.

Of course, as the last picture shows. Small ledges may pose a problem with the corgi mount. Consider it a feature, not a bug.

There will be collections, full armor sets, new weapon skins, bounties, achievements, etc to earn. If you’re going to ignore all that by only doing the story line and the events and then leave then of course the expansion will feel light on content.

Firstly, support here are excellent. Ive encountered some seriously poor support in other mmos recently, Anet buck the trend and consistently so. I have had similar experiences where they helped me buy an armour set at a sale price after the sale ended. Of course i then found i already had an opened box of said armour in my bank a couple of days later….

Sevondly, top tip: right click your salvage tool and use the salvage all options there for salvaging where possible. Using that exclusively will guarantee never accidentally salvaging a precursor since exotic isnt in that menu.

Good advice. It usually works for me, except for the time I was salvaging Bloodstone Rubies (which have to be salvaged one at a time) and the game lagged for a couple of seconds and I salvaged instead an exotic trinket with a Poly-luminescent Undulating Refractor (Green).

Fused Weapons Skins coming back?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Bumping/necro’ing this just because it’s still relevant. Would love to see the Fused skins back available for tickets.

Anyone have any thoughts as to if this may happen, or is this now just a lost cause I need to save up money for?

Since this seems to be a weapon set that releases rarely you can either save up the gold or wait and hope, whichever seems to be best to you since no one on the forums can answer your question.

As a comment. This is a very old thread and the Fused weapons were re-released 7 months later, or not quite a year ago. With the re-release the prices have dropped considerably. At the time of the original posting, for example, the Fused Greatsword was selling for 3400 gold. It’s now selling for ~700 gold.

Maybe a meta boss chain. You’ll get a fair number of rares doing that. And doing events in a map such as Frostgorge when the map bonus is really good.

I don’t consider this a map really, but high level fractals is supposed to be decent income.

You sure about that? All I see is that it’s an elite spec for the Revenant that requires Hero points to unlock at level 80. What content in the HoT is required to unlock it?

Herald is part of the HoT elite specs. You can’t play Tempest or Daredevil if you do not own HoT, likewise you can’t play Mirage without PoF.

anything i can do? or i just have to get to level80 again?

If you have an empty character slot and if the char’s name isn’t taken you could ask for support to bring back that level 80. You could use it for level 80 maps then when you no longer need it you can park it at a chest or a node for a daily harvest and also use it for storage.

if not asking too much

We appreciate each and every person who pre-purchases our game. Please note that each person who does that will receive pre-purchase bonuses. I don’t feel it’s reasonable to ask for additional items. I believe (no, I know) the majority of players who are able to join the test will consider this a nice “bonus,” an opportunity to spend a bit of extra time in the game and will not feel entitled to getting additional or extra free items.

I read that first as “I feel it’s reasonable to ask for additional items”….. and started making my list.

And then I re-read it. Hopes dashed.

Mastery points in Gem store

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Just a flesh wound.3589

Just a flesh wound.3589

On one hand, we can argue that we did the content to get the Mastery points, so why not you.

However on the other hand it was easier to get those points with everyone doing them at the same time, including guilds actively helping guildies out with current content. It’s easiet to get help and someone to play along with when content is fresh than when it’s a couple of years or more old. Now players are going solo through old content and trying to round up people to help out with the harder bits.

It’s one of the faults of the mastery system that playing old, abandoned content is required for current character progression. ANet might need to look at a system to help out new or returned players to progress mastery tracks based on old content. If enough hit a stopping place where they have to solo play long stretches of old, abandoned content then they might stop completely.

Suggestion: Skip Talk

Just a flesh wound.3589

Here’s what the dev have said on skipping parts of a Living Story.

There’s a bigger technical issue—during “in game” scenes, the NPCs are moving around and things are happening (gadgets might be activating, props may be animating, etc.) and if you just skipped all that, it could lead to some really bizarre behavior. Trying to manually set a “failsafe” to teleport the NPCs, fire off effects, etc. to replicate what the world state is if the cutscene plays is extremely tedious and error prone.

That’s why the old style “dialogue cutscenes” (and the fancy but rare full blown l sequences, like the Order movies and racial intros) are skippable, because we aren’t doing anything to the world while the dialogue plays, so skipping it doesn’t have any effect. We’ve moved away from those, because the in-game scenes are a lot more satisfying, but there’s a trade off.

In fact, one thing I’m going to do once I have a mount and some time, I’m going to try to get a level two down to the most southern corner of Orr by simply running past them on my raptor. I’m curious if it’s possible, and I think it is.

Interesting. I’m going to guess that this may be impossible (not because of the mobs but because you’ll probably get at least one level from map exploration). I wonder how low you could be if you optimized your route to get as little exp as possible on the trip there. That would mean unveiling as few areas as possible and avoiding WPs and POIs I’d imagine? Which might be exceptionally frustrating if you die.

I’m guessing the XP from getting down there would be at least level 3 if not level 4, so level 2 can only be the starting level.

Probably wouldn’t be too frustrating to die with the changes to revive orbs. If you can summon the mount fast enough and get going, probably can get away.

That’s when a flying mount would come handy.

Here’s the article

“Having looked at how flying has played out in the old world in the last couple of expansions, we realized that while we were doing it out of this ingrained habit after we introduced flying in The Burning Crusade, it actually detracted from gameplay in a whole lot of ways,” Hazzikostas said. “While there was certainly convenience in being able to completely explore the world in three dimensions, that also came at the expense of gameplay like targeted exploration, like trying to figure out what’s in that cave on top of a hill and how do I get up there.”

Originally, Blizzard took out flying in Warlords of Draenor as an experiment, and Hazzikostas says he would have bet “slightly better than even money at the time” that they were going to bring it back eventually. But as they played the expansion and watched others play it, they discovered that they liked the game better without flying.

“The world feels larger, feels more dangerous,” he says. “There’s more room for exploration, for secrets, for discovery and overall immersion in the world. At this point, we feel that outdoor gameplay in World of Warcraft is ultimately better without flying. We’re not going to be reintroducing the ability to fly in Draenor, and that’s kind of where we’re at going forward.”

IMO everything here could be applied to mounts in general, not only flying ones.

And to be honest, WOW is the apex of the generic, repetitive, rigid, shallow and toxic MMORPG. For me, is the best of the worst. Anything that makes GW2 closer to that monolithic brainwasher of eternal grind is a mistake.

That’s true. I think the mounts in this game are too fast and in some ways are as bad as flying with the ability to bypass content. In a previous thread I suggested reducing the speed down to a regular +25%.

I’m already expecting to be able to run past mobs on my low levels that isn’t possible at this time. In fact, one thing I’m going to do once I have a mount and some time, I’m going to try to get a level two down to the most southern corner of Orr by simply running past them on my raptor. I’m curious if it’s possible, and I think it is.

My guess is now that we have superspeed mounts, flying will be the next expansion.

The Devs in WoW admitted that they regretted adding flying to the game. They tried to not add it to the last couple of expansions at all, but customer pressure made them give in. Even so, flying is only added to the last part of each expansion in WoW now. If ANet Devs are paying attention to what WoW Devs are saying about flying then that’s might be why they only added gliding to this game.

Change the color backpack.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Just a flesh wound.3589

Just a flesh wound.3589

Here’s the dev answer as to why. (And no, it’s not writing a “little bit of code”)

Substance E.

Back items also take damage like armor and thus are not the same thing as accessories or weapons. They never got dye channels likely for the same reason that we only had the guild backpack at launch, it was never finished.
Backpacks will remain un-dyable so Anet can sell black and white wing sets. Plain and simple.

If you need citation, then look no further. I’m the dev who concepted this glider! Granted, I’m an artist so I couldn’t give you the full technical rundown like Josh Petrie, but I do handle our engine daily.

Whether or not the equipment takes damage or not has no bearing on how the engine separates items. The engine sees armor as what is called a composite, it sees things attached to your characters like weapons and backpieces as items, and it sees gliders as a sort of middleground item/effect. Our file structure separates gliders as items, but because of how they pop into view, layer, and more easily allow for dyes it makes sense to basically treat them as effects. Now I’m not positive on this, but I’m going to hazard a guess that if we decided to make gliders as items, we’d have to retroactively alter the system in a way that would allow for weapons/backpieces to be dyed.

On its face doing this sounds like a great idea, since this is what fans want. As a fellow player I’d like this as well, but unfortunately our systems were not designed with this in mind. Not only would we have to go back and code each item so it can have dye channels/sufficient UI and prepare for the veritable bugfest that would ensue from altering a system that has years of work built on top of it, but we’d also have to retexture these items. Why? Our dye system is balanced around a red base color which has an impact on how every other color will appear when a channel shifts to it. Anyone who has played with dodging/burning in photoshop will know that red has some strange properties when it comes to shifts in values. Many dyes would have blown out/dull/oddly saturated textures as a result.

That’s just the tip of the iceberg. There’s SO much more to the process that I don’t have a firm grasp on.

The devs here are gamers and we love what we do. We want fans to get excited about what we make because we’re fans, too. However, we have players clamoring for every fix/feature under the sun so we have to do a ton of prioritizing. Game development is never plain and simple.

Edit: Thanks Aikawa! I designed it but Chelsea M. modeled it. She’s a rockstar!

I rarely post on the forums so I just had my account upgraded to a developer one. So Tidgepot is indeed a dev because I’m Tidgepot! My posts earlier in this thread still stand. I’m sorry about the confusion :P

Like I said before, I’m just an artist so I’ll elaborate on what I understand as best as I can, but I’m no engineer.

This sounds like a it could be good idea, but it doesn’t sidestep the issue of categorization and what certain types of assets can do. The older assets would still be affected. We’d still encounter a ton of programing challenges and bugs from altering a core mechanic of the game and the years of code built on top of it. Every player and many npcs use items, so the wrong bug slipping through can have a major impact on everyone in the game. Not to mention finding that bug could be like searching for a needle in a haystack because of how fundamental this part of our system is. We’d still probably end up having to re-author and retexture all old items (which would take a ton of resources) and even if we did do that, more players may end up upset by the minor texture changes to their current gear than those who can’t dye backpacks.

Maybe(?) a workaround could be a new asset type, but our engine is old and finicky— it would certainly take a lot resources to teach it to parse through something so fundamental.

I believe his argument wasn’t so much that each one is successively better or different in service NPC’s (though that was part of it) but that old, previous passes weren’t updated to all have identical services. The lack of updating to make them identical is what he considered “double dipping.”

I don’t think he was being reasonable, and looking at the services offered for each, he wasn’t being accurate either. /shrug.

As compared to Royal Terrace (I think this one was the first, so I’ll consider it baseline).

Havok’s heir (I think this was second): activity, guild armorer, guild promoter, guild weaponsmith
Noble’s Folly: this one’s might only be quick access to a new area of the world. (Including alts that haven’t done the story?)
Lava lounge: launch pad, activity, dungeon merchant, access to new area of the world.
Mistlock Sanctuary: the main feature seems to be the ability to return to your previous map, low gravity with special movement skills and a game inside there. Has the additional Guild NPC’s.

Lily of the Ebon: unknown. Might only be easy access to a new region of the world (probably including alts that haven’t done the story line and don’t have the waypoints).

How is something that’s not possible for them to change a “double dip?”

Because it sounds like a convenient excuse to continue selling “improved” VIP portal stones even if you already have one the next one is better and they never update the old ones, so they can sell you new ones every few months.

Are they improved? Except for the Mistlock one the rest have basically the same features. Access to convenience in a small area on a map. What, exactly, is the reason you’re buying multiples of these? Are you buying multiple scrolls to avoid the 2-3 silver wp fee to a map by spending 1000 gems (currently about 297 gold)? Are you buying multiples because the last one didn’t have feature X and you’d have to port to another map occasionally and spend portal time and wp fees if you didnt buy it? Because if that’s the reason, seriously, you’re not saving gold or time that way.

No, I haven’t bought multiples (though one comes with the deluxe/ultimate editions of PoF so I do have that one so I guess I have 2 now). Some of them have extra features over the royal terrace like the activities NPC, Dungeon and fractal vendors, etc. The only update they ever added to the royal terrace was the aesthetics NPC that is there to sell you makeover kits. They won’t add fractal or dungeon vendors to the old passes, but they’ll continue to add new conveniences to new passes because they want to double dip you. Whether or not you’re convinced or not and buy more than 1 pass is not the issue, the issue is the attempt to make you buy extras. It’d be nice if anet instead extended out some goodwill to those who purchased earlier passes by updating the royal terrace, airship, noble’s folly, instead of consuming/throwing away goodwill by blatantly trying to double dip customers.

I was thinking about this.

Isn’t it common enough in a business selling selling items that the next item they make is improved a bit. When the “new and improved version” is sold, they don’t then remake the previous old item and add new features to an old item that customers have already purchased.

Yes, ANet is selling more of these. Are items with identical conveniences going to sell or does ANet need to make each one a little different to get people to buy? These are, remember, completely optional purchases and if ANet is to entice people who didn’t buy the previous version then they need change it a bit to get fresh money. One way is to increase services. A new and different location won’t be enough.

Do you think people would buy more than one of these in the numbers they do if services were identical and only location was changed?

Do we really have to call it Minstrel gear?

One thing that the OP has not noticed, it’s not Minstrel but Minstrel Shows or Minstrelsy that was used to refer to blackface.

I’m from the US, born and raised in the South and what he’s talking about was always referred to as Minstrel Shows or Minstrelsy. The word Minstrel alone wasn’t used to describe the blackface entertainment.

Context and specific word useage matters.

The wiki suggests that the Exuberant dye kit will be the dye birthday present. Doesn’t have the Jormag dye kit, but still has some very nice choices.

I wonder if we’ll be able to get the Frostbite dye with this one.

I’m pretty sure that last birthday the most recent gemstore dye kit was one of the kits available in the Jubilant dye pack. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that the Jormag dye kit is included this year.
