How ANet is handling population migration?

My guess they’ll continue to handle it with dailies. Give rewards for doing events in map A one day and map B the next. Keeps people busy and population high on those maps.

this is happening to me right now! what did you do OP?? everything is account bound i even have everything to make gift of color, mastery, AND fortune. i been working on it for months! i never knew! how would other people be making their legendary for profit??

The crafting method wasn’t put in for people to make a profit. It was put in to get around the mystic forge RNG to get a precursor, to allow people to steadily advance towards a goal and (when it had a story attached to it) for a more immersive way to get a Legendary.

The outfit is clearly a reference to this NPC model in GW1

Yes but for some reason that pic looks great while there is just something wrong with the implementation in GW2. Even on a human there is something off about the outfit.

I’m going to guess it’s because they did a bad job with the dye channels on the outfit. You can’t dye the stomach plate, the undersection of the shoulder pads or the trim on the skirt separately. That makes these parts merge in with the rest instead of standing out. The loss of details makes it bland rather than interesting.

But, you assume wrong. The native weight of Outfit armor is neither Heavy, Medium, nor Light. It is its own weight. Which is the issue with mixing it with any existing armor(s).

I don’t think that’s true. Have you seen an official source on that? Making them have their own weight would seem to be inefficient to me. My assumption to this point is that each outfit uses one of the existing weights, whichever one matches the shape they’re trying to achieve. Obviously this doesn’t prevent players from wearing the Outfit doing their own weight class, but I think if you put a Warrior in an Outfit with a “light weight skeleton,” then it’s just a Warrior in a light armor skin.
(Snip)

Townclothes were a fourth armor class. I don’t think they’ve ever explicitly said but it’s reasonable to assume that outfits (which are not armor but are onesies that slip over armor) and which are a replacement for townclothes are not one of the armor classes but are the 4th armor class.

(About townclothes)
“It helps if you think of town clothes as a 4th weight class of armor”

Edit: and this sentence from the same post
“Outfits give us a way to create highly stylized looks that aren’t constrained to armor slots or weight class.”

I would buy a couple outfits only to get their boots and headgear. It would feel awful, but I would for a few specific ones.

Or you could have what the gemstore offers now, which is buy the items separately without the required outfit prepurchase, such as the Braham’s shoulder piece.

I have already bought what separate armor pieces the gemstore offer that I like. (I have bought most of them, really…)

But they don’t offer the Arcane or Ghostly Outfits cowl or boots in the gemstore, nor they offer Taimi’s, Sentinel, Lyssa or Balthazar boots.

Of course, the ideal for me would be to simply buy these as separate armor pieces and thats it. But I could EVEN be willing to buy the outfits if by doing that I can access that parts as mix’n match items. Just because decent boots for asura are so rare…

No doubt people would if that was the only option.

However nothing is stopping ANet from making armor pieces now and selling them separately. Artificially tying outfits and armor pieces together won’t make more armor pieces appear in the gemstore. People already snap up individual armor pieces so lack of sales is not the reason they aren’t in the gemstore.

At this time I think I should point out my signature. I personally see no reason to tell a company that they should change their current practice and stop selling individual $1 items and instead tie an unnecessary $8 prepurchase to the $1 item.

What you should be doing instead is asking for more individual $1-2 armor pieces in the gemstore, including parts of outfits as armor. Not asking for a company to artificially tie two purchases together.

Actually ANet has already tried something somewhat similar. Items bundled together in the gemstore as one purchase only where you had to buy what you don’t want to get what you do want. For example, the Bandit Sniper Appearance pack

Obviously they were trying out making you buy items you didn’t want to get the items you do want. It must not have worked out well as they’ve allowed the option to buy the items separately after that.

That cost can be in gold if extra 50-100 gems is so scary for people.
And we all know that even if you state that you won’t bother buying them right now, you will in future, because price increase would be minimal. All it takes for them is just to create an outfit piece that you would like and you would buy a whole outfit just to get that part.
As for it being unfair… lol, gambling and lockboxes are unfair, but people got used to them, so they will get used to extra little price too.

Extra 50-100 gems?

You have to buy the outfit first. That’s the hangup. You’re asking people who don’t like outfits or don’t like that outfit or who don’t have the money/gems to buy a 700 gem outfit, to first shell out the 700 gems and then have the ability to buy the the 50-100 gems item they want.

It’s not 50-100 gems. It’s 750-800 gems.

True, but it’s better for business like that.

Forcing people to buy things they do not want and won’t use that is up to 7 times more expensive than what they want to buy is poor business practice. Not only is it unlikely to generate repeat business but dissatisfied customers will verbally trash your business to future possible customers and discourage them from buying.

You can’t ask someone to first make an unwanted $8-$9 purchase before they can make their 62 cent to $1.25 purchase and expect them to be happy about it, or come back for a second purchase.

It is much better strategy than selling each piece for 500 gems like they did before, I can bet it was super unpopular because whole outfit costs 800 and one piece was selling for 500, now if you make them super cheap, but lock them behind the outfit purchase, it would actually produce much more customers than selling them separately for such high price tbh.

Nope. It won’t. It’s s terrible strategy, especially since the people who most want the armor pieces loathe outfits and would never buy them.

Again, asking people to first pay $8-9 for something they don’t want in order to buy a 62 cent item is not going to work.

Ain’t no one is going to do that. They’ll refuse to buy, you’ll lose the sale you could have made and you’ll lose their good will.

It’s possible the mounts when ridden are not separate from the player. There’s a whirl animation and the player disappears and the mounted player appears. It might be like the mounted NPC’s in HoT. Apparently they’re one creature, not an NPC on a separate mount. If the player becomes like that then it won’t be possible to hide mounts separately.

They’d have to rework the whole outfit UI to make a new outfit panel for outfits made of bits and pieces of other outfits, a wardrobe of outfit bits and pieces, and find the parts that don’t clip then make and sell them separately. Might take a bit more effort than you would think at first glance of your suggestion.

I wonder though, do we need to fill in the whole outfit? Can we run around in (outfit) shoes and shoulder pads only? If so, count me in. ^^

Nah, no new UI is needed, they can just add all those parts to gem store and allow those parts to be sold only if certain conditions are met (Just like they did with anniversary boxes for example)

Are you talking about making parts of oufits into armor pieces? If that’s what you meant, how is that going to increase the sales of outfits.

It is already stated in original post, they become unlocked for purchase only after outfit itself is owned.

That’s what I thought you were proposing.

If you think that people will want to buy a whole outfit just to be allowed to buy individual armor pieces, then you’ve not tried to force people to spend money on things they dislike or don’t want before. I guarantee that requiring buying the outfit in order to buy armor pieces will be the most unpopular concept in the gemstore, if not in the whole game, and many an outraged forum post will be posted.

No they stay on your block list and can see which map etc your on which is kind of creepy.

You were talking about people who haven’t played in years and wishing to remove them from your followers list. The people who haven’t logged on can’t see which map you’re on (since they’re not online, you know) and you can get them off your followers list with block.

True. But you said to just remove them to block list which is what i don’t want to do because i don’t like blocking people unless they deserve it. Besides that just moves them to another list which you can still see.

It’s unlikely that ANet will ever give us a way to move people off the followers list as it involves changing someone else’s account. (Your account name is on their friend’s list. You’re seeing part of someone else’s list). The best you’re likely to get is the ability to move it so you can’t see it on your friend’s list, which moving to block does).

“But you said to just remove them to block list which is what i don’t want to do because i don’t like blocking people unless they deserve it.”

They’re gone. According to you they haven’t logged on in years. Whether they deserve to be moved to block is a moot point. They’ll never know unless they happen to log on and they happen to message you, which is unlikely. They probably don’t remember who is who on their list after all this time.

Personally my real recommendation is to quit checking and looking at the lists since they are bothering you to the point that you’re making a thread on the forum.

My opinion. No on new professions. That’s what the elite specs can do. They can allow an old profession to have new mechanics. No on new playable race. Maybe one day they’ll do that but I’m not expecting it for this expansion at least.

I’m expecting it to be (in broad outlines) like HoT. That is, new elite specs with their new weapon per profession, new Masteries and new ways to travel the map added. New weapons and new armors, etc, etc…. Seeing as the last map had account wide waypoints I wouldn’t be surprised to see this in the new maps.

ToK in Black Lion Chests

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Just a flesh wound.3589

Just a flesh wound.3589

I’m actually disappointed with the removal of tomes from the chests and stopped purchasing keys as a result.

I loved using tomes to crank out those last 10 to 20 levels and get to fully customizing a character but outside of black lion chests I’ve barely ever got any. My server does very poorly in WvWvW (despite its population shifting between high and very high) so there’s no progress to be had on the reward track and whenever I tried to play Edge of the Mists in the past months it has been empty so nothing to be gained there either.

This leaves me with the daily login rewards and, well, that’s it.

Let me get this straight. Because you cannot get ToK from chests anymore, you stopped buying keys? Implying they are the main reason you buy keys. You think it was good to pay 35g and get two level ups at best? So, for your 20 levels, it cost you 350g at least to do it with ToK? You can level from 60-80 in a couple of hours.

Edit: Out of interest I checked how many ToK are on accounts; The mean is 193 per account, the median is 59, the maximum is 9144.

They stopped buying keys because the common rewards they would often get was no longer worth it. Same reason that you were complaining about not wanting to pay for the keys because they contained the tomes.

Exactly this. On average I got a tome on every third chest opening and that increased the value of keys for me immensely. Sure, it wasn’t cost-effective but keys in general are not cost-effective. If I cared about getting the most virtual bang for my buck then I’d just convert those gems to gold.

If you were buying keys to get tomes to level your char the last 10 levels or so it probably would have been cheaper to level that char by crafting.

Get some fireworks that give 10 % XP from everything (there’s two types so that’s plus 20%) and do the cheap low level crafting of each of the crafting professions. You can use a crafting guide to get the cheapest route and sell refined mats to recoup the cost.

Edit: do sPvP dailies. That will give you tomes on a regular basis from the reward tracks.

Reason why backpack sales are so low

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Just a flesh wound.3589

Just a flesh wound.3589

It’s because we can’t recolor them. They simply don’t fit the armors if they have different colors and as a result nobody’s buying them judging by your backpack discounts spam lately.

And yes, I’m aware that it would need some work to teach your old game engine to recolor backpacks, but the point is, until that work is done, very few people bother to buy them. It’s that simple.

So yeah, the choice is yours a-net, either make them worth buying or enjoy low sales.

Its not a clearance sale because nobody is buying them. That is only neccessary, if your unsold stock takes up too much storage, which isnt the case because they dont take up any.

Discounts do mean alot however, they have no reason to make discounts on hot-selling products. Yet almost all backpacks (excluding wings) get them.

If you’re basing your point on sales of old items, that’s not how it goes.

You can’t say sales of an item type is low because there are sales ongoing of old items. When items come out they get the initial buyers. After they’ve been out a while the price drops to get the people who are less enthusiastic about it or who have less money. This is normal to all things. New is expensive and then there are sales on the old.

Hint: If these items didn’t sell well they wouldn’t be making more of them. They’d stop and start making something else.

Put random glider checkbox

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Just a flesh wound.3589

It’s a interesting idea but you’d have one dye set for all since the game doesn’t remember the dye combos per item. I expect that would annoy a lot of people once they realize it.

I don’t know, it’s the same with outfits and people still use different outfits on the same character.

I know some people will change the dyes each time, but I also know others will settle for a dye scheme that looks ok on all their outfits. They could do the same with gliders.

I think it’d actually be less of a problem with gliders because not all of them can be dyed. I have 8 gliders, only 3 of them are dyable and 1 of those is the basic glider which only shows the first dye channel and the 2nd is the ugly wool glider which looks ugly no matter what you do. (The 3rd is the raven spirit, which I tend to pick vivid colours for, which may exacerbate the problem of the ugly glider…but it is supposed to be ugly, so that’s ok.)

Not a good comparison imo. A big difference is that you don’t switch outfits every few minutes or every few seconds like it’s possible to do with random gliders. Even outfit wearers want to look nice and I suspect most wear an outfit for a period of time with the dyes specifically selected.

Not that I care if ANet puts this in or not as I probably wouldn’t use it since I have gliders themed to my chars. What I was saying is that it’s bound to provoke a lot of complaints and I think it won’t have much use after trying it out, unless the player is the type to not care about a theme or a color selection. Considering how many complaints there are for non dyable backpacks it’s probably more than one might think.

ANet may give it to you.

It’s a interesting idea but you’d have one dye set for all since the game doesn’t remember the dye combos per item. I expect that would annoy a lot of people once they realize it.

That does sound like an annoying extra loading screen. It should be like WvW and the PvP lobby where you have an exit on the UI that sends you back to your map. If it had that I’d probably buy it as none of the others have this feature. It would be especially useful since they removed crafting from WvW..

I’m going to guess you’ll have to do some story first and that very likely will be accessed on another map.

Thinking about this, i’m not against having to pay for access, but my main concern with this, is how do u link wp’s to your friends/guildies etc to join u at particular part of the map for event or w/ever, when everyone needs to have these unlocked individually. I’m sure these wp’s will only be visible and accessible to you, the owner of the wp.

To me, big part of gw2 experience is being able to quickly link a wp to ppl in the world and individual maps to get to the events, guild missions etc. How’s this gonna work and improve the community experience that are meant to work together in many cases?

They are visible to all who have opened one up and I think they are visible even if you haven’t, although I can’t swear to it. I remember they were visible when I was standing by the vendor debating which one to buy first.

No, they don’t ping but that should be something the Devs can change. It wouldn’t hurt to make that an request in the QoL thread as that is something the game needs.

some of you may not notice that you can unlock more wp….just have to buy it. I have no idea who come up with the idea but its not player friendly at all

How isn’t it player friendly?

1) it only takes 40 orrian pearls. You can get those in a day or two of playing. If you buy the orrian pearl node you get 9 with each daily harvest.
2) after unlock you can bring any alt to that map and have access. You no longer have to run to each one with each char.

You know what takes less time than gathering 40 orrin pearls? Walking over the freakin way points. To me the new system feels like you went to a restaurant to buy a sandwich. You then go the next day to buy the sandwich and they raised the price. Is the sandwich still affordable? Of coarse. However, that is not why people will be upset about the increased prices. What you could traditionally get for free by walking over it, you now have to buy. If they want to add a way for alts to unlock way points, then they should add it as a purchase in addition to traditional way points, but most definitely not to replace it.

You know what you could try? You could collect Orrian Pearls on your way to those waypoints, unlock it once you get there and then have it unlocked for all your alts so they can just leap to those maps without having to run to them.

By the way, if you get the Home Instance Orrian Pearl node and then go and collect it you’ll get 9 Pearls right then. Those 40 Pearls will be paid off fast enough the 270 Pearls a month node.

You know whats even faster than that ?

Playing the map. You dont even have to buy the node….Literally grab yourself a harvesting sickle and go complete the story once you land in the map. Doing so will have you completing each heart this means you get 5 chance to buy pearls for karma. As well as jumping into the reliquary for another shot to get upto 51 pearls. More than enough to buy each shrine. That’s before even touching the (20 ? Not entirely sure on the exact number) you get just for finishing the story.

Oh yeah. I completely forgot about being able to buy Pearls with Karma. Good point.

You say the purchased wp’s are accessible to all your chars, but do they still need to do the story to get there in the first place and unlock the map? It would be great if they don’t need to play the story first, as i can’t really play much gw2 atm due an incapacitated hand. So it would help if i could struggle through with one char to unlock the map and that allowed my alts to just wp there without having to do the story.

No, you can’t post in using those waypoints. Truthfully, I didn’t do the story at all. I used a teleport to a friend to jump to the map for my first char and then used the portal scroll you can buy from a vendor to take my other chars there.

Siren’s Landing portal scroll. 1000 unbound magic and 50 silver.

So once you get there you can buy a portal scroll to get all your alts to that map. In addition, that same vendor sell a Living World Portal tome that you can use to put all your Living Story map portal scrolls in to make one single gizmo with multi portal use.
