From what I can tell, dungeons as they currently are, are designed mainly for people who are very familiar with MMO’s and spend a LOT of time learing all the mechanics and nuances of the game. For those who are not, dungeons are incredibly unforgiving.

A lot of people say, “look up guides” or “go with someone who has done it”, but isn’t the point of a game to experience it without any guides and be familiar with it yet still have as much of a chance as these other guys? It seems you’re supposed to be exceptionally familiar with the mechanics of a given dungeons before you even get a chance to play it! Talk about spoiling the fun. Even with some of the fractals you are going to be very frustrated if you don’t look up the mechanics of certain bosses or puzzles. The game supplies you with essentially no information on what to do. At least with games that get dungeon bosses right (Zelda for example) you have a partner who gives you helpful hints on how to deal with them.

Also, I’ve noticed that people expect you to be maxed out on your gear to be able to withstand the high damage/hp pools of bosses, but I thought this game isn’t supposed to be so gear dependent!

Yet another thing I find is that, if you’re having trouble finding groups to do it with, find a guild or have current friends to do it with! Well that kind of defeats the purpose of an MMO, yes? I thought we were supposed to be encouraged to meet new people and try things with unfamiliar people, yet instead (especially with dungeons) we are at a disadvantage.

I’m just saying that the OP has a point when it comes to the difficulty of dungeons. They suffer from horrible game design (one-hit kill attacks and enemies with absurd health pools) and unbalance. If you want to have fun, avoid dungeons at all costs.

Disappointed with lack of voice options

This is the one problem with having voiced player characters in that you’re basically stuck with whatever they (the devs) give you. I would love to be able to customize my characters’ voices a bit more, but I imagine that would not be cost-efficient for the company having to record so many lines.

The personal story is terrible in this game.

I pretty much agree with everyone. The personal story is easily one of this game’s weakest points. For me, I couldn’t really give two craps about any of the characters as they would just come and go anyway. I also don’t really like the pacing, as it’s usually do one part of the story, grind a few levels, do the next part, rinse and repeat. I know GW 1 stories had their flaws, but they were at least memorable.

Honestly, I hope they ditch the PS with future EP’s and just focus more on one single storyline, one that is well-written, well-thougt out, and interesting instead of a bunch of forgettable ones.

What kinds of things do you miss from GW 1?

Things I miss:

- The wide skill selection
- Skills not being tied to weapons
- Profession uniqueness
- The GW 1 Mesmer
- Heroes
- PVP Formats (I really miss Fort Aspenwood and I hope we get something like it at some point)
- Skill graphics/ sound effects
- Crystal Desert, Elona, Cantha (I’m sure we’ll get these eventually)
- Heroes
- Missions
- The Elite Skills (don’t care for this game’s elites)
- Heroes (I would seriously buy gems if I could get heroes)

I just miss the game overall. Yeah I could go back but I waited five + years for this one. I don’t hate GW 2 and I really hope it improves over time and they remedy a lot of the issues.

I keep coming back to this forum..

I’m the same OP, except that my first character was a Mesmer (which I guess could be considered my main). But my next interest was the Necromancer so I made a new character to play that, except that Necro’s are really gimped. I’d really like to play it further and I keep coming to the Necro forum to find some good news, but alas, none at all.

I'm sorry? Why do I give you more money?...

I’d just like to say that I have yet to spend a cent on the gem store and for very good reasons. See, I have been on a hiatus from the game since before November. I got a little burned out on the game and the lack of bug fixes/balancing was getting a little irritating. I noticed the ad for Lost Shores and my interest seemed to come back, but only very temporarily. Having read on the forums how lousy the update was, I decided that I wasn’t going to even bother. There are other things that I have been waiting diligently for, including class balancing/dungeon balancing, yet those seem to fall on the wayside for “new and exciting” content. Wintersday doesn’t even interest me one bit so I still haven’t touched the game. I do come onto the forums though occasionally to see what’s going on.

Anyway, the point I’m trying to get at is that I really have no intention of supporting Anet through the gem store right now as I’m disappointed with the direction the game is going (that and, well, nothing in the gem store really interests me anyway, except for maybe char slots). I was a hugely devoted fan to GW 1 and played it for years, yet GW 2 had caught my attention for only a few months, and with the direction it seems to be going I’m not even sure if I’ll bother much longer. This isn’t even a threat, just that I’d rather play other games that are more appealing right now.

And honestly, it didn’t really bug me that there was a sale. Sales are good, right? But you’d be more likely to have players spend money, especially on sales, if they are satisified, which I am not at the moment.

You mean there’s no more hand grabbing the bare boob? It’s not like there was an exposed nipple or anything. Not that it invalidates the armor as it still looks nice, but I mean she’s got exposed skin all over so what’s wrong with a little boob?

Elite skills don't seem so "elite"

I think the overall approach to Elites in this game was just bad. It’s not just that there are a lot of very weak ones, but the long cooldowns just takes away a lot of the fun. I’m not really sure what was wrong with the system in the first game and why Anet decided to mess with it the way that they did.

I hope the expansions work like they did back in GW1.

I think because this game focuses more on level progression than GW 1 did, new expansions without an increase in level cap would feel a little off. Though, I think the absolute limit for a level cap should be 100. Anything higher than that just starts to feel silly. Also, because most of the “expansions” in GW 1 were campaigns which were standalone, the addition of new starting areas, in some ways, gave the illusion that there was level progression for new characters at least.

Where did the cool skill names/effects go?

Anyone else miss some of the cooler skill names we had from GW 1. Migraine, Guilt, Shame, Mistrust, Ignorance, Arcane Languor, Crippling Anguish, Conjure Nightmare, just to name a few. Also, I feel that the skill effects in GW 1 were simpler but more varied. I mean, currently we have some nice effects, but I miss some of the simpler and subtler yet beautiful effects from the first game. Alot of the spells now are pretty much “illusionary this” and “illusionary that” and consist of there’s a repitition of effects. I just feel that there was more variety and more care put into making each skill unique in GW 1, something that’s not as apparent in this game.

As this is a rather subjective topic, I’d like to see what others think.

^ I’m not 100% sure if this was directed towards me and if it wasn’t then ignore me, but to answer your question, yes, I did play GW1. In fact, I invested over 2000 hours into it and I won’t deny that it had its difficult areas (such as UW, DoA as you pointed out) but that stuff was clearly designated as Elite Areas for those who wanted that extra challenge. The thing is that those areas did not constitute such a big chunk of the games like dungeons or other aspects of GW 2 and were fun to overcome. The difficult stuff in GW 2 is just frustrating and not really warranted. I will say that this game should have Elite level stuff for the skilled players or maybe even a HM for explorable areas/dungeons rather than excluding many players from even being able to experience the environments themselves because they are overly difficult.

To the OP, what Im about to say will probably come off as rude, but please kindly shut up and stop trying to get Aner to make the game harder for everyone else. You and your friends may find the game to be a cakewalk but there are so many others who are either comfortable with the game’s difficulty or would like it toned down a bit (I’m looking at you dungeons). I mean, of even the expl dungeons are too easy for you then perhaps this game is not for you and you should move on. Maybe proudly as you know you’ve accomplished so much on the game.

The Look of a Mesmer

The elegant look of the Mesmer is what attracted me to it so much in Guild Wars 1 and why I still love them in 2. Of course, since all casters use the same armors I tend to try and find the most elegant armors to use on my Mesmer. Currently I’m working towards leveling my tailoring just so I can create masquerade armor for my Mesmer since it fits the “feel” of the class so well. Also…purple butterflies/lasers/domes etc. ftw!

To the guy who said they can’t reproduce this bug, you are either ignorant or just a troll. Anyway, I would like to mimic gianz’s post and say that this method worked for me too. The only thing I did differently on my fourth attempt was that I cleared out the entire cave before talking to the second research team and thankfully the team followed me. I can only recommend to try this method and see if it works but I understand everyone’s frustration with this mission and ANET needs to get their act together and fix this quest without having to resort to players needing to try worksrounds that may or may not work. I’m just happy I can finally move on and I hope others can too soon.

Dungeons need two difficulty modes.

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

So, it’s pretty obvious by reading the plethora of posts regarding dungeons that there are two groups of people: those who find the dungeons too difficult and those who find them too easy. I, unfortunately, am of the former.

As of right now, I have completed three dungeons on my level 79 character, all of which have been exercises in frustration. Sure, I hear that dungeons are meant to be end-game, but is end-game meant to be synonymous with frustrating? The way I see it, is that dungeons currently should have a normal mode and a hard mode in order to cater to both groups previously mentioned. The difficulty of normal mode could be scaled back a bit from what it is now, while Hard mode could be either what the dungeons are now in terms of difficulty, or maybe even made a little more difficult. Of course, the rewards would need to be adjusted accordingly, but I think this would be fair for everyone.

Honestly, I would rather do a “comfortable” dungeon 50 times or so to get a set of armor than do a frustratingly difficult dungeon 25 times, whereas others would prefer the opposite so this would obviously suit different tastes. Also, some people prefer to do the dungeons for the story or for fun, so why subject them to the current dungeone experience?

I know I’m probably going to get a lot of negative responses to this, and that’s okay, but I just would like people to give it some thought and post their opinions on this. I, in all honesty, think it would be a step in making dungeons a more enjoyable experience for all types of players.

Was so looking forward to this patch in the hopes that I could finally complete this damnable quest with my character, but after reading how many people are still experiencing this bug, I just don’t even feel like trying. I’m not about to deal with a quest that gives the player some of the most incompetend AI ever seen in a game just to rack up loads of death penalty/armor repairs with the very small chance of avoiding the glitch.

Please, for the love of God, just let us skip this quest until it’s fixed for good!

The least Anet could do is continue to post and update us on this issue. Instead they tell us to keep posting in this thread but then leave us hanging.

Tried this mission again after a few days and made it to the researchers just to have them glitch AGAIN, as in they teleport back to their original spot in the cave and won’t budge. This is getting really frustrating especially since its such a long and difficult mission and I can’t get any further in the storyline.

And we shouldn’t have to jump through freaking hoops in the hopes that we can finish the mission, that is just rediculous.
