My biggest immersion breaker relates to your third point. I dislike how the zones feel so “disconnected” from one another as if they’re all in their own universe. Like you can’t swim from one to another that’s literally right next to the other and you can’t even see scenery from nearby zones, instead you just see the end of the world. For example, you should be able to see Claw Island from Bloodtide Coast but you just see endless ocean and similarly you should be able to see the Shiverpeaks from adjacent zones yet there’s nothing in view. There’s nothing that makes the land of Tyria feel like a grander world when there’s no sense of connectedness between the zones. Unfortunately, many zone-based games have this problem but I feel like there could be improvements that could boost the sense of immersion.
Maybe. Like a lot of people will tell you Black Lion Chests are a huge gamble. I buy keys from time to time primarily for the chance to get scraps/tickets and sometimes it can be hugely disappointing when you open ten or more and get maybe like 4 scraps, but aside from those the chests come with a lot of useful items from the gem store like boosts, dye kits, and identity kits. I don’t mean to brag but I once received a Permanent Black Lion Merchant that I sold for over 200g, but that was like 1 in maybe 100 chests.
I guess what I’m trying to say is that if you buy the chests solely for scraps and tickets you might be wasting your money, especially if you feel like the other stuff is pure garbage.
Why not? I use staff + axe/focus for my necromancer and even though the buff to staff is great you still inflict vulnerability with the axe auto attack.
I’d love to see the Marionette make a return. Out of all the World Bosses it was the most fun and engaging and a huge challenge (but in a well-designed way).
Unless they somehow incorporated them in-game, no thanks.
I wondered the same thing at one point. Since the theme of GW2 is facing the Elder Dragons one would expect that we would defeat them all before the game’s life ends. Unfortunately, the pace of the LS has been exceptionally slow in regards to the dragons and at this rate it’ll be years before we see them all, at which point a lot of people will probably have moved on with their lives or GW2 in general. If we see Mordremoth by, say Feb or March, that will have been 2.5 years for 2 dragons. Extrapolate that and it will probably be another 4 or 5 years before we see them all.
GW1’s total lifespan (until Anet stopped creating new content) was about 5-6 years so it’s possible that we’ll see them all, but will the majority of players care at that point? I don’t have a crystal ball so I can’t really say, but personally I hope that Anet speeds things up a bit and condenses each season a bit instead of dragging them out forever like Season 1.
I don’t really have anything to add that may be helpful, just that I’m having major issues with the launcher as well and can’t open the game at all.
I’m also affected by this. Can’t load the game with the launcher being unresponsive.
EDIT: Just noticed the other threads and the problem has been acknowledged ><
(edited by Justin.7163)
I’m experiencing the same problem. The launcher opens and then just becomes completely unresponsive. Closing it and opening doesn’t help at all. Didn’t have this issue before.
I liked how in GW1 many armor sets had matching accessories (like earrings, necklaces, bracelets, etc) that were visible on your character, so I totally agree with this. Of course there could always be options to hide them if you so choose especially if there would be performance issues (doubt it). Also, I heard of speculations that there may be legendary accessories released in the future. What would be the reason to obtain those if you couldn’t even see them?
Think of the cushiony protection a head of hair like that could offer.
I’m a tad biased because GW1 is one of my favorite games of all time so I’d definitely recommend it. As others have said it’s entirely possible to solo 95% of the content due to full-hero parties. Make sure you play each campaign for the best experience, preferably in the order they were released to reduce the chance of spoilers and to better understand the overall plot. Doing so will make understanding aspects of GW2 easier and will no doubt aid you in appreciating the lore/world a lot more.
I’m choosing to binge, because after almost two years of the base game I’ve essentially tired myself of the main content and with the LS format I’d essentially consume the few hours of new content and then wait again for two weeks which isn’t really ideal for me. So, instead, I’m planning on hoarding chapters of the season 2 until there’s plenty of new stuff to do and then hopefully get back into the game where it will feel fresh to me. Since there are no plans for any expansion packs I’m hoping that doing this will give the expansion pack feel once there are a decent number of chapters saved up to play at a later date. In the mean time I’m doing other things and indulging in another MMO while season 2 trickles out.
I just wish they allowed us to use the Styling Kits while creating a character.
Wow this thread has derailed pretty badly. Anyway, I wonder if ANet has ever considered the option of tying, let’s say, gem store armors to some kind of mini quest or something for those who would be more than willing to pay for the armors but don’t just want it handed to us simply by paying real life money? Maybe create some armors that are unlocked my paying gems but that still require some semblance of in game effort to acquire them, like through crafting for example? Obviously the biggest obstacle for Anet would be the need to put a little bit more effort into the process but I think it would work well in the long run and would give these gem store items more “meaning,” especially for those (like myself) who value gameplay and cosmetics as equally important in games like Guild Wars.
Digging the style of this new set. Even better is that they’re prettier than the new gem store set (IMO).
So definitely a big improvement this time around is a sense of permanency to the second chapter of living story. At the moment I’m still taking a break from GW2 while I do other stuff and play another MMO and I’ve decided that I’m going to wait for at least a few chapters to be released during this living story so that I can play it in larger chunks later on at my own pace (akin to an EP or similar kind of expansion). Of course I’ll do my best to log in during every release to unlock the chapters for free instead of having to pay gems
Just wanted to see who else is going to take advantage of this change to the living story and maybe your reasons why. There are definitely advantages and possibly disadvantages to doing so, but in the end it fits my personal tastes as I wasn’t (and still not) overly fond of the smaller two week updates.
Very few armors in this game really pop out to me, and this says a lot since GW1 had so many amazing armor concepts. This is odd to me since presumably the same armor artists worked between the games. Almost none of the gem store armors are remotely appealing to me aesthetically speaking (which is fine because Gem Store armor is a big no-no for me for various reasons) and even Ascended Armor is decent at best. I’m hoping that there are some real amazing stuff in the works but after almost 2 years it’s not looking promising.
Count me in. I was winning at 498 points when it decided to d/c me and now I also cannot log back in.
Edit: Yay fortunately my connectin lasted long enough that I still got credit. Also I can now log in again.
Expansion 1000%
The LS was an interesting experiment but that’s all it really was. If I wanted to experience a living, breathing world (which the LS didn’t even really feel like anyway) I’d go outside. From what I’ve seen of the LS thus far, it just doesn’t deliver the meaty, PERMANENT content that an expansion delivers.
I mean, if Season 2 and on prove me wrong by adding substantial content with a better story that actually sticks around then I will eat my words, but I’d still prefer actual expansions to be sprinkled about. And honestly, I’m aching to give Anet money for an expansion at this point. I’ve spent about 50$ since launch on gems, but wouldn’t it be nice to have that AND the money I’d love to spend on EP’s?!
The only thing interesting here is the free key.
EDIT: Nevermind there’s no second free key. What poop…

Seems that there’s something going on, whether it’s a tag limit or that the Champs scale rediculously high with more people so that you have to do an incredible amount of damage to tag them. Like, for example, when doing Claw of Jormag sometimes I’ll get champ bags and sometimes not even if I feel I’ve done a more than reasonable amount of damage to a certain champ.
Thought the champs in that event don’t drop loot and Jormag doesn’t drop a bag, but instead a chest and a floaty chest if you haven’t completed it for the day and participated in the event.
But some of the champs that spawn do indeed drop chests. Like last night I managed to tag a champ that spawned from the cliffs on the sides and a chest appeared (with a champ box inside) during the fight. I know that defeating Jormag spawns the little chest icons on the side but this was separate from those. The spawning of the dropped, lootable chests just seems kind of random sometimes.
I think the lower level World Bosses should drop a bit more Dragonite Ore to reduce to grind. Like, c’mon, the Jungle Wurm drops what…3 ore? I know he’s “easier” than the others (though not really since the higher level bosses are not hard at all), but I don’t think it justifies such a measly amount of Dragonite. Maybe allow us to convert karma into Ore? Having stacks of Bloodstone and Empyreal and having so little Dragonit is really bumming me out.

I haven’t really encountered some of the major issues that others have come across so for me the MegaServers are pretty great. No longer must I wander around zones feeling like the only person in the world! I guess the only issue I may have at the moment is that Boss Events can get quite crowded and it can be difficult to tag enemies, but right now it’s not a huge issue for me.
Unfortunately, as Clavicula alluded to, we are most likely never going to see elements of GW1 Mesmer due to the way in which the combat system works in this game (especially in terms of how most of our skills are tied to weapons). There’s some hope that we can see new types of utility skills that bring back more of a semblance of our first incarnation but the limited nature of 3 skills isn’t really going to do much.
Anyway, now to address the original post:
Ignorance, though great in theory, would probably be way to situational especially because not all players use signets.
Mind Wrack is already used as one of our shatter skills, so maybe a rename would be in order. As well, this concept would only work in PVP since, AFAIK, PVE enemies don’t have endurance.
Energy Burn would probably work better as a skill. Maybe something like a skill that burns away some of their endurance while dealing direct damage similarly to how it burned energy and caused direct damage in GW1.
Drain Enchantment would probably need an internal cooldown to avoid OPness, but other than that I think it would work.
Illusion of Haste is kinda weird since you’d basically be affected by it indefinitely the moment crippled hits you for the first time. Other than that a trait to boost our speed is a necessity at this point.
Love the idea of Backfire, though maybe it could apply to all skills but with lower damage per hit to avoid potential overpoweredness. Your suggestion would, again, prob be useless in PVE since enemies don’t have utilities (though not 100% sure on that).
Maybe rename Shatter Delusiosn to Signet of Delusions to avoid inconsistencies with naming across Signet skills. Other than that, neat idea, though it could possibly conflict with condition builds of team mates (maybe change so that it only affects conditions you apply?)
I have a few ideas for new skills but I won’t derail your ideas so I’ll keep them to myself for the time being.
So this idea came to me yesterday while doing Fractals. I like the idea that a group must go through 3 dungeons in order to complete a run. I think this idea would work well if applied to dungeons as well. By which I mean players could join a group and complete all the paths of a certain dungeon consecutively which would increase rewards for each one (say increased MF, tokens, gold for each path completed). In order for this to work I think that the group should have to complete the paths without being able to leave the dungeon at any time. It would definitely encourage players to explore the paths less traveled and would allow for a more traditional feel to dungeons (by exploring them in their entirety).
Of course, this would be entirely OPTIONAL since not all players want/have the time to complete all paths of a given dungeon consecutively. Thoughts?
Despite GW2 running okay for me for the most part there are two issues that I hope someone could explain to me/help me with:
1) So frequently while playing the game it will run relatively smooth for about 5-10 seconds and then for a brief interval (say 2-3 seconds) the framerate will drop low. This happens basically everywhere (though much worse in busier places). I’m confused as to why it happens like this instead of having a constant high or low fps.
2) Lately I’ve been having some pretty rough load times. Some times it may take up to 30 seconds or so to load a single map (again it’s worse in busier maps). Again, the loading isn’t really consistent for each map which seems kind of strange to me.
Saying this, I have a pretty decent Laptop (yes, laptop) which is only about 2 years old. It’s a Dell Alienware M14x for those familiar with the brand. I’m not sure what I can possibly to do remedy the issues. Changing graphics settings doesn’t really affect these issues since the FPS is pretty much the same regardless if I play on higher or lower graphical quality. Any help would be appreciated.
So lately I’ve noticed an increase in maps using background scenery seen from a far distance, like for example I was in harathi hinterlands a few days ago and I was near the northernmost part of the map and I could see tall rugged mountains in the distance whereas before it used to be just fog/nothing. You can see a similar thing in maps like Snowden Drifts where there are tall mountains painted onto the sky and some areas of Ascalon where you can see plateaus way off in the distance (and I’m not talking about the actual physical areas of the map accessible to players. So I was just wondering if anyone else has noticed this. If it is a new effect I think it adds a lot to the overall scenery in these maps and I hope it’s incorporated more in the future.
Well at least I had studying and an exam today/yesteday to help pass the time before the patch is released. Maybe I’ll hit the gym for a bit and hopefully it’ll be on when I get back.
Anet/NCSoft must absolutely love you.
Though wandering through an empty countryside alone can be atmospheric at times, having it occur 90% of the time on most maps (especially in an MMO) is not fun at all. I welcome this change.
Hopefully Anet reads this and takes it seriously as it brings up a lot of important points while also being constructive. While all are good points, #10 stood out for me the most as LS1 lingered on for far too long, leaving less time for more stories to be fleshed out and brought to us (Realistically, for how long do we expect GW2’s lifetime to last. There are still at least 4 Elder dragons remaining and since the theme of GW2 is the rise of the Elder Dragons it would make most sense for us to experience them all before any future sequels). I think, in the future, Anet should consider condensing their story arcs a bit more.
Signed. I’d love to be able to see farther than we currently can with the fog in place. It makes the game world feel claustrophobic.
Simple solution: Allow pieces to be bought individually but give a discount if you buy the whole set. Stores do this all the time.
Ya I don’t buy “skins” from the gemstore either, mostly because there’s no accomplishment in it. It’s basically like typing in a “cheat” (or in this case, your CC info) and obtaining something for accomplishing squat. The problem is exacerbated since the endgame is pretty much entirely cosmetic based. I do recognize that Anet have introduced Ascended armor/weapons (which is great) but over a year and a half its the only whole set they’ve released that have nothing to do with the gem store. I’m totaly fine with buying convenience items, but “skins” are off-limits for me.
I’ve been getting bouts of bad lag recently too. Not sure if it’s related but just thought I’d share.
I would have to agree, it would honestly go really well for a Human Guardian I have in mind. And it’s not like the style really screams “Norn” anyway so I don’t understand the exclusivity. The same could go for some other styles as well. (Welp, guess I’ll just have to save my money for now wink wink nudge nudge Anet!)
I’m in such shock that they gave the Male Norn (2nd haircut) the haircut I want (and I have it in real life!)
I call it my “Alex Shepherd” hair-do because it reminds me of the silent hill protagonist. I’ve always wanted it, now I have to have a someone who is a disproportionate human to have it.
I don’t think I will buy a hair kit :/
Reminded me of AS too! Looks good.
In all I think they did a decent job with the new hairstyles, but I would like to extend the suggestion that some hairstyles should be shared between races/sexes (particularly some Norn/Human hairstyles since Norns are essentially just giant humans anyway). Not really feeling some of the Sylvari ones though. They seem, I dunno, low rez maybe?
Was searching for this thread without realizing it got stickied hehe. I check this thread almost daily to see if there’s anything worthwhile and what I may have missed.
Tell your husband to man the kitten up. If he can’t handle his male character casting a few butterflies then there are other issues at play here that don’t have to do with the game.

Yup, same problem here. I just wanna defeat Scarlet already!
If all you want to do is get the ending and kill scarlet there is a backdoor entrance on the Diverse Ledges. You need to build the back piece up fine quality (which isn’t too costly) 1 and that should set you on your way to killing Scarlet.
1 – If you need help here are the permanent rich iron ore node locations
Edited to correct information.
Thanks for the info but this is an absolutely last resort option for me. Only my warrior has the back piece but I would largely prefer for my main character (my Mesmer) to complete the Scarlet arc since he’s been the one with whom I’ve been completing every story instance/event. And as others have said, this option will have me miss some (even if it’s miniscule) of the final confrontation.
To OP, let Anet’s accountants worry about their bottom line. This, in no way, affects you or any other player negatively.
I think I have just under 2000 hours and no legendary weapon. I mean, I would like one but the whole precursor wall makes me not want to even bother. Maybe when I’ve decked out all my characters with the weapon/armor combos I have planned for them and have no other real goal to work towards I may actually seriously start considering a legendary weapon but right now it’s not really a priority.

I don’t think DE’s were a suitable substitute for traditional quests, but I do think the two could work side-by-side and I would welcome such a thing with open arms. I’m just not sure how quests would work in a persistant world since various players may be in different stages of the same quest which may create some issues.
If Anet were to introduce quests again, they have to avoid what they did in GW1, which was giving the player hundreds of quests but little in the way of rewards for doing them (DE"s anyone?). Sure, many quests offered a rich experience in terms of story and character interaction but in a game like GW2 (or any RPG for that matter) there has to be some sort of “tangible” reward to encourage the player to do them beyond the “experience.”
I agree, but I suppose it’s nice for people who have 0 crafting for whatever reason and want a quick way to get higher in it.
My Mesmer was decked out with a Tormented Staff in the first game and I loved it! Unfortunately, that was largely due to the feeling of actually having completed challenging content to collect what I needed to obtain it which created a sense of accomplishment. Sticking these in the gem store and gambling for them strips away all the meaning it had in the first game. Oh well, I probably wont actively try to get these since I already had the chance to experience having a Tormented weapon from the first game and I really don’t feel like grinding or gambling for something like this.
Not being able to dye weapons is a crime against humanity. It was an option in GW 1 so why not Gw 2? I mean, sure, dying certain weapons would probably be an issue, but they could always just do what they did in GW1 and make it so that some weapons aren’t affected by dyes in order to maintain a certain “aesthetic” the artist had in mind for it(think Tormented weapons, for example).
P.S. And why should customizability be limited to just weapons? The game is lacking in customizability overall from character appearance options to skills and many things in between, IMHO.
