I would really like to see something like female Ritualist Vabbian armor. It’s pretty much all my ritualist wore in GW 1 and she stood out from the crowd since, for some reason, it wasn’t hugely popular (I don’t care if anyone though the hat made it look like my rit was donning a lampshade, I loved it!) Thumbs up to the designer for that one!
Here’s a link for those who want to see it in all it’s awesomeness:
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Gallery_of_female_ritualist_Vabbian_armor
I try and avoid WvW like the plague because of how horrible the performance is there. If Anet wants to push players to play this format more and enjoy the work they put into it then something really needs to be done so that it’s not a slideshow, which sucks all the potential fun right out of it. Of course, larger-scale battles in PVE could be improved as well since those can become quite slow and choppy.
Heck yeah my axe/focus build got some love! Now I won’t feel like as much of a loser for using them :P
Aww I was really hoping that the scepter would be buffed. I’ve been sticking with it since the beginning because I like it aesthetically, but there’s no denying it’s a little underwhelming. Not really sure why they have yet to get around to fixing skill #1 so that it applies confusion on the third attack like it says in the tooltip.
I would like a hero system for dungeons or some kind of scaling so they could be done with fewer or just one person. I shouldn’t be forced to group up at all (and don’t use that “well it’s an MMO” argument, because I play this series mostly for the art/story/gameplay. The presence of other real-life people is just a neat side aspect which shouldn’t hinder my experience in any way). Sometimes I don’t mind playing and grouping with others and will actively try, but sometimes it’s just nice to have the option to play on your own terms/pace without having to worry about others and forcing one to play with others to experience all the content in a game we choose to play is nonsense.
Staff ele is kind of fun and nuky if you like that kind of play. I also have an axe/focus and staff necromancer which is neat. Staff though on the necro can be kind of boring but it’s quite recommended and axe is often considered weaker than other weapons but I enjoy the playstyle and it suits a necromancer. Tried a warrior but it bored me pretty quick, though I expect I will level him eventually in the future since the warrior is pretty much meta at this point.
Yeah the dungeon as the final mission was kind of really dumb. Not only is it a little jarring to be faced with a forced grouping after a soloable storyline, but it’s also quite frustrating when often the game picks someone elses character as the “speaker” so you’re character is basically just in the background the whole time. Not to mention if you haven’t done the “story mode dungeon” questline then Arah makes no sense as DE makes references to your character bringing them all together and what not. Man, when I think of it, the main storyline in this game suffered quite a bit, but that’s a whole different discussion.
Do the community a favor and report these idiots. We need fewer of them in the game and one would hope Anet would ban them for such actions.
Obsidian armor was a nice long-term goal to aim for and the armor looked good on most of the classes. Though I think they should make a new kind of “obsidian” armor instead of rehashing old designs from the first game, like maybe Legendary or something with multiple designs for each armor level so we don’t have everyone running around in the same three designs at some point.
It’s the internet. It’s a vile, vile place that harbors the worst kinds of people.
I think that Anet needs to shy away from the pure DPS aspect of the game which has become immensely popular and make it so that shutdown and control become as desireable for players. Basically it boils down to “how fast can we get those red bars to go down” which was a similar problem with the first game and why a lot of builds/skills were never used in PVE. It’s not just about making the “weaker” classes do more damage and faster but also for more playstyles to become more viable by tweaking dungeon mechanics and other encounters throughout PVE.
Yup. Apparently a lot of players lack simple reading comprehension when it comes to a lot of LFG posts and such. That and there’s a real epidemic of impatience and intolerance when it comes to making mistakes or not adhering stricly to the “status quo”. So many players just suck all the fun out of everything.
Coming from GW 1 I was 100% certain all my characters were going to be human. Funnily enough, though, out of my current four characters, only one is human. (1 Human, 1 Sylvari, and 2 Norns). I know that as soon as I saw Faolin from TA I knew that the whole gnarled, dead branches look would look so cool for a necromancer, and it turns out making a sylvari is actually kind of fun. I may make another one if I decide to make a ranger. As well, the Norn fits really well for the warrior profession, and then the Norn females are just great (I have a thing for tall woman who aren’t afraid to show a bit of their masculine side) so I made a female Norn ele.
Saying that, I will most likely never make an Asura because they just do not interest me and I may only make a Charr if I ever try an Engineer. Other than those, it’s pretty much fair game for the other three races for future characters.
See, the main issue with most dungeons is that many of the boss/enemy encounters are very poorly designed. The difficulty that is present in this game is more cheap then anything else, like giving bosses stupidly high health pools and one-shot kills that are incredibly hard to spot. Now I don’t mind a challenge if it’s well-designed, but what Anet calls “challenging,” is what most would call “stupid and frustrating.” And honestly, if you managed to do everything in this game then I would suggest you give yourself a pat on the back and move on instead of clamoring for the rest of the community to become more frustrated with more of Anet’s “difficulty.”
No. Orr as it currently is is interesting, ominous, and different from all the other zones. Making it all happy sunshine and rainbows would just ruin the feel and would become too similar to the other zones. Also, I am to believe it would take a very long time for the place to recover, I mean not even Ascalon has recovered fully from the Searing.
Although it is a minor issue, the sarcasm/condescending responses in this thread are out of hand. Good job Guild Wars community! Always impressing!
Anyway, yeah the square-shaped maps do seem kind of unnatural and weird, especially viewed from the world map. It doesn’t really leave a whole lot of mystery when exploring since you know exactly where the maps will end. There were quite a few oddly shaped maps in the first game and it was particuarly neat coming across random zones that were far off from the main path the game took you through. Now all the zones are clearly labeled on the map and easy to guess how far they’ll take you. Though I honestly believe the maps are this way due to making map completion less of a P.I.T.A. Remember how rediculous cartography was in the first game to the point that most used a mod to help them out?
I agree! Lions Arch is boring and laggy. I’d love to see a real reason to visit one’s home city besides the beginning of their personal story/map completion.
Well here’s a fancy idea. Why doesn’t Anet make a “hard mode” version of all the dungeons for those seeking a great challenge..but wait…make the rewards all the same as normal difficult! Surely people would do it “just for the challenge,” no? This would make everyone happy, until the people who are “looking for the HARD stuff” complain that they aren’t getting rewarded enough.
I know, they should give the people who accomplish this little badges they can pin on themselves saying “I AM SPECIAL!”
Hi,
So this has been kind of bothering me ever since I made a female Sylvari. I’m not really sure why they have breasts as there is no biological or survival reason for having them. They don’t have children so that rules out the need to breastfeed and as far as I know the Sylvari don’t follow the same conventions of sexuality as other races do. Surely the devs didn’t add them for sexual appeal for players, right? Unless you’re really into that sort of thing. Just curious if anyone has any suggestions why this could be.
Some jumping puzzles have issues, that’s for sure. I have to agree that this one is one of the easiest JP’s so you may have a lot of issues with the others, but often it’s not due quite to the fault of the player. Camera issues, random slippery slopes that don’t appear slippery, pointless guesswork in where one must jump, and difficulty in judging the gap between jumps are just some of the issues plaguing jp’s (at least for me). I think it just will take you some practice, but in some cases practice isn’t going to be enough and it will just involve trial and error in some cases, which is kind of silly.
Oh, and the thing I miss most is my armor:
White Elite Elegant (http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Fevered_Dreams) and Elite Canthan (http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Gallery_of_male_mesmer_Elite_Canthan_armor).Gaul. I’ve got to start Guild Wars 1 up again for nostalgia’s sake.
I had a female Mesmer in GW 1, but I have to agree that the male mesmer Elite Canthan was one of my favorite designs for the male. It really had that exotic feel to it. Now that I think of it, this game is lacking suitable masks for mesmers as well.
Gimme gimme the Crystal Desert. I loved that place. And then the Maguuma Wastes.
I miss basically everything. Somehow they managed to turn the game’s most complex debuff/shutdown class into a kitten proof direct damage class that’s completely broken for all forms of pvp and ridiculously boring to play in pve.
I have to agree. I often get bored quickly with my Mesmer in PVE because it’s essentially now a pet class that relies heavily on shattering. I think the Mesmer lost much of its feel when they removed the hex system for this game as Mesmer’s relied heavily on crippling their enemies with many amazing hexes with very different effects. I do still have hope that the Mesmer will evolve and transcend the simplistic nature it has currently.
Regarding direct-damage, I also have to agree which may be why I find more enjoyment in the elementalist because direct-damage is more suited for the elementalist role. Sadly, even though the Mesmer was my main and my favorite profession in GW 1, I find myself playing the GW2 mesmer less and less now and will more likely pick another class for my main.
(edited by Justin.7163)
Oh I miss that too!! I actually loved how every class had their own way of casting spells and different dances and all that jazz. The twirl definitely made the connection with how mesmers were supposed to be “theatrical” or “dramatic” mages.
I actually miss some of the hexes we used to have. Being able to completely shut people down was so much fun when done correctly (and many of the players who have never played gw1 definitely wouldn’t complain about the mesmer’s here in gw2 if they had faced the mesmer’s that stopped you from activating any skill at all)
All of this is on my list lol. I too miss how every class had their own unique spell casting animations, but I think that it may have changed due to no longer being rooted on casting spells. Though I do wish my Mesmer returned to that “theatrical” feel as he feels a little too aggressive and it doesn’t seem right. But yeah shutting down was my favorite aspect of GW 1 Mesmer and kitten other players off hehe.
@skcamow.3527 As much as I would love to play GW1, I invested over 2000 hours in it and have done pretty much everything I wanted in it. Now I just look back at it with very fond memories while continuing my legacy with GW2.
I miss when my Mesmer in GW1 would do fancy twirls and gestures when they casted their spells. It gave the impression that they were kind of dainty but not to be messed with.
What else do you GW 1 players miss about the Mesmer? I know I have a whole list of ‘em, but I’d like to see others’ ideas. GW 2’s Mesmer is nice in its own right, but just misses some of the charm from the first game. This is not meant to be a negative thread so I hope people will remain civil about it. Anyway, share!
^ My scepter still says that it iniflicts confusion on the third hit, yet it doesn’t.
Both are nice, but I think you could totally pull off the evil look with TA armor. Maybe use darker dyes. It is called Nightmare Armor after all.
Not really sure why shooting musical notes at someone would make them bleed. Confusion made more sense :P
Hearing crap like this makes me so disgusted with these types of players. Serious oversight on Anet’s part anyway to allow this kind of behaviour.
Totes agree OP. I did TA explorable for the first time today and God forbid I watch the cutscenes to enjoy the content. My whole group ran off without me and skipped all the mobs so I was pretty screwed trying to make my way. The mindset of gamers these days is a little disheartening that they’d sacrifice the journey just to “try” and get the end reward a little faster. I say “try” because our group ended up taking quite a bit longer because they had to do the last bit of the dungeon (including the boss) without me as I was dead along with another player and we couldn’t get past all the mobs that were skipped.
^ Please tell me you didn’t just say that people should expect to pay for bug fixes. That’s the most rediculous load of crap I think I’ve heard in a while. Developers are expected to fix bugs if they expect people to pay full price for their games.
Please tell me you did not just ignore the entire point of my post in order to reply with something that refutes nothing I said.
Your post’s point is that people expect free stuff, yet you included bug fixing as one of the “free” things people expect. I don’t think you understand what point you think you are trying to make.

If they ever released a Legendary Armor set I would like them to go with the approach they had with Obsidian Armor in the first game. Even though Obsidian Armor was the most expensive armor by a long shot, it wasn’t ever really over the top. My mesmer had Obsidian Armor and she looked exceptionally classy but still had that “powerful” feel yet she wasn’t covered in spikes, she wasn’t glowing, didn’t have rainbows coming out of her butt, etc. Some of the professions’ Obsidian variant was also their best, like the Paragon and the Monk.
Absolutely not. GW 2 is a good game, but suffers from too many flaws to make it worth a subscription. IMO a game has to basically be problem-free for me to even consider paying a subscription and needs a buttload of content to justify it, and not just those lame tactics MMO’s often use to extend game time like stupidly slow leveling speed, endless grind, etc, etc. Not saying GW 2 has these features but just referring to those MMO’s I’ve either played or heard of.
I haven’t done a lot of JP’s but I recently did the Skipping Stones one in Southsun Cove and that was pretty cool. I typically hate timed stuff like that because it makes me all jittery but when I made it to the end it was quite rewarding (I actually made it to the last platform before the chest and somehow fell down the first time, that frustrated me to no end). The epicness of it was pretty neat as well.
Just a question though. Does anyone else feel that they need to look up the location of the JP’s in order to do them since most are pretty well-hidden and not that obvious? The only ones I’ve done were the ones connected to a vista which are quite obvious. The Skipping Stones one I looked up the location where you start it. It would be nice if there was a more obvious sign saying something like, “Hey, here’s a jump puzzle!” Or something along those lines.
I have a nice little plot of land in the farms located in the Gendarran Fields were I plant my gold seeds and then harvest the gold from the crops once they’ve matured. Takes a lot of hard work and dedication but it’s worth it in the end.
WvW is not what I hoped it to be. A laggy zergfest is in no way fun; therefore, I agree with the OP on that point. Dungeons do need a lot of work as well. Hopefully one day they will improve this game to be on par with GW 1 and I would hope you would come back for that.
As it already were, finding a group for certain dungeons (especially story mode) is quite time-consuming and tedious. So God Forbid I try to advertise in map chat for a group to do a dungeond just to be suppressed due to “excessive messaging” when I only did it like five times, not even in a row. I waited a bit between each message, yet apparently this is “excessive.” Not only that, but I forbids me from doing any kind of communication with anyone around me. And to make matters worse, even after around 20-30 minutes I’m still suppressed! What kind of stupid kitten system is this? I know spamming can be a problem in certain circumstances but this was hardly spamming at all.
Erm, don’t Elementalists have the weakest healing skills in the game? Granted I only play a staff, but geyser and healing rain don’t seem that powerful nor does my self-heal skill which heals for like 1/6th of my total health even with 30 points in water magic.
Don’t really have much experience with bunkers so I’m guessing most of it has to do with them, and I hope the the staff gets some nice adjustments to make it less crowd-reliant and give us a little more strength for single targets.
Edit: And for the love of kittens please make air much better for the staff. I use it the least out of all the elements and usually only for the speed boost skill. For single-target damage and crowd control specialty its pretty freakin useless.
(edited by Justin.7163)
I go 20/0/0/30/20 and I do pretty well. In fact I’m often alive longer than others when I group with them. Though even with fire at 20 I find my damage still kind of lacking. (I use a staff by the way.
The matched PVP sounds interesting. I honestly avoid PVP because I feel like I would get owned hard, but if I were matched with others with similar skill level I could potentially find some enjoyment out of that.
Other than that it’s pretty vague about what we’ll get PVE-wise except for the Guild Missions which intrigue me.
I hear a lot of requests for these “raid” dungeons, but all I’m thinking is that the last thing we need is more content that involves a large mob zerging its way through an objective. I’m looking at events like The Shatter, etc. Those aren’t really fun or involving in any way. The fewer players required for content the better.
Normally I’d say this is a little silly to expect new armor sets so soon and considering how many there are in the base game, but being as I’m not overly impressed with a lot of the current armor designs I’d really like to see them put more in as soon as possible. Not sure what happened since GW 1 had so many incredible designs (mostly post-Prophecies).
Cantha was one of the most unique regions I’ve ever explored in a video game and even though Kaineng city was pretty ugly from a aesthetic point of view (cardboard city!) it was still quite a delight to get lost in. Echovald Forest and The Jade Sea were absolutely marvelous from a design point of view and I would cry many tears (not really, but I’d be pretty bummed) if we never got to re-explore that beautiful continent.
And maybe it’s because I played them first before Prophecies, but I more readily associate Cantha (Factions) and Elona (Nightfall) with Guild Wars than Tyria so it’d be a shame never to see them again.
Before Anet adds any more improved graphic options, I’d prefer if they focused on making the current graphic options run better on peoples’ systems. GW2 doesn’t have the best graphics so there’s no reason it should run as poorly as it does, and my computer is mid to high-ranged.
If there were an agree button I would press it so hard.
Professions feel far less unique in this game than they did in GW1. It’s not just the armor, but it’s the mechanics of the professions as well, since they all pretty much do the same thing but with slightly different skills and traits. Nothing truly sets them apart.
I’m guessing they didn’t want to get with profession specific armor because they would pretty much have to make 8 unique sets per dungeon as apposed to three, along with the many tiers of crafting. And also because there’s more of a progression-based system of armor rather than the standard max versus elite max armro versions of the first game.
Yay for random titles!
But it actually is relevant. What I’m getting at is that it’d be nice if there were some sort of sound effect to let you know when someone either whispers you or invites you to a party as sometimes I’m too concentrated on something to notice and I end up ignoring someone unintionally. I know GW 1 had a nice little “ding” sound when someon pm’s you and I thought it’d be nice to have one here as well.
I’m not sure if MMO gamers are too heavily rewarded but I have noticed a trend in games such as this where every bit of time spent doing something has to ensure some sort of reward. Far too often people seem to sacrifice the fun aspect of gaming with the reward aspect that one would expect more in real-life endeavours. Not to say people shouldn’t feel that there’s something to work towards as that creates a sense of fun in its own way (and I’m sort of guilty at times of this too, particulary in my later days of playing GW1), but there should also be a pursuit of fun as well to balance it out a bit or else people start forming a negative attitude as they play the game (I’m sure there are plenty of examples others can think of).
I think some people are forgetting that for gems to be released into the game, someone had to buy them with real life money at some point, so even if someone bought an EP with gems, the gems that that player bought with gold had been purchased by someone using actual money. Though I still wouldn’t expect them to sell them in the cash shop to be quite honest.
