Activating skills will occasionally trigger in-game dialogue from the legends, and the player character will sometimes respond with race-specific dialogue of their own. Depending on the legend your revenant has summoned between fights, you may also hear some small talk out of combat.
As far as I could tell, in the BWE the only part of this was actually available was the legends occasional “dialogue” when you use a skill or channel them. My character never responded to them, nor did I experience any out of combat dialogues.
Given it was a roleplay article I’m beginning to wonder how much of this was intended to describe roleplay as opposed to actual gameplay.
If it’s finalised, would be cool of Roy could maybe comment on this so I can manage my expectations
Yea it’s absolutely a personal thing, I’m not normally bothered by asymmetry but I’ve found in GW2 I just don’t like it. It’s especially so when one shoulder is absent a piece of armour.
As I said this is a beautiful skin and I may end up using it despite my preferences
Yea I’m not a fan of the asymmetrical shoulders, I especially dislike the ones that completely remove one shoulder guard because it looks so empty.
However, this is one beautiful shoulder skin. I truly wish there was an option for both shoulders because I think my disliking of the asymmetry will make me not use it
I believe the Flameseeker referenced in the name “Flameseeker Prophecies” was Khilbron so to call the elite spec Flameseeker wouldn’t be that lore based (in fact it’d sorta be weird from a lore perspective).
I’m not a huge fan of Herald, but it works.
Many of my guildmates received their gems right away. The transactions are handled by a second party, yes? So… WHY is it taking so long to get my gems? It didn’t take 72 hours for my money to be taken…
If you’re talking about the Ultimate edition, mine were instant. You’ll have better luck contacting support though as they’re the only ones that can make it happen
I guess upkeeps will be something like -3/-4, so you can activate 2 and still not be out of energy in 8 seconds.
Well at least i hope you can keep at least one permanently with still a low but positive energy regenSome are cheap, some are expensive. You’ll be able to keep multiple up at the same time. A lot of the inspiration for the skills came from what you might find a bard style class doing in other games.
I’ll be showing it all off plus some extra things on the POI this Friday which will give a much better idea of how everything works.
I am also pretty curious what did you mean by that “some extra things”
At the very least I’d assume he’s showing the underwater weapon and at the same time will probably go through how the different legend’s skills work when you enter water (Ventari is probably disabled). Just a guess based on the fact that we got info on underwater stuff in the article.
I suspect the only methods would be to either activate a load to drain your energy faster, thus letting them expire, or swap legend (or use the active/burst and throw it on cool down). I suspect the idea is you’re supposed to decide when’s best to have one active and picking the right moment for each one to properly manage your energy. Then decide if you’ll need that facet soon or if you can afford to put it on cool down.
It all sounds really interesting, but like with the other elite specs I think I’ll need to see it on Friday to really get it. The article wasn’t the best to follow at times, Anet’s blog post tomorrow might go into more/better detail and be easier to read.
Also hoping they won’t individually be enough to put us right into negative income, so that we can have one up “indefinitely” at the expense of slower energy income and then a second or third for negative income.
I’m hoping the facets don’t put you into an outright energy drain. Like maybe do -3 energy, so you’re still earning it but slow and then if you activated a second one at that point to go into negative income.
A few things of note:
- I didn’t really see a new class mechanic in there. I saw the Facet of Nature (which he eludes to being a mechanic), however this seems just a skill. It doesn’t seem to change anything at all, just compliments that individual legend. Hoping there was something missing here, otherwise it seems Revenant won’t really have an Elite Spec. as they’ve been defined, but just another legend only accessible by this line.
- Agree with previous statements of stability. Hopefully we see stability featured in one of the facet’s boons. The breakbar is cool and all, but it roots you, so practical use is very limited (aside from things like a bunker build)
- Seems like these facets function like Signets for which you pay energy to activate their passive. I’ll have to see what the upkeep is before I make judgement. What I worry about is that since weapons also use energy that with this legend you’ll be putting up a facet, then auto-attacking a lot to avoid losing all of your energy.
The Facet of Nature is presumably an F2 skill and will be available on all legends (while specced for glint). This fits with how chronomancer and tempest both got off-hand weapons and an addition to their mechanics as opposed to a makeover of it.
Guess it depends what it does? We have no solid info on it other than a few text entries for skills (that may have drastically changed from when they were datamined), some skill icons and a shield model.
Also worth remembering that elite specs are the new method of adding on to professions going forward, so if the first one is “can use any utility” that’s going to be hard to top, or even equal, in the future.
He enjoys it really.
I could be wrong but was it not implied somewhere in GW2 that she was a corrupted dragon as opposed to simply being created? Like dialogue saying she regained free will, as opposed to just gained?
It seems highly unlikely because if you can pick your favourite skills on Glint then why would anyone not pick Glint?
“None will ever hear her true name spoken properly”—-this is part of the caption from the Facebook post they made linking the same picture
What’s everyone’s take on this? Everything points to glint, but this throws me off.. glint is formerly known as glaust and has gone by no other names.. the only argument is to say they are referring to kralkatorrik. The problem with this is glint Is only a champion of
kralkatorrik, and is no way her “proper name”So that throws me off a little. Any thoughts?
Edit:I’m still convinced it’s glint, but why do you think they included that line ?
Yea I mean it’s definitely Glint legend for Revenant. Roy retweeted it saying “HYPE” which means it’s got to be Revenant related :P
When I read that extra sentence of facebook my initial impression is they were referring to her previous name as Glaust. But then the word “properly” throws me off bit, like has everyone been pronouncing her name wrong or something :P. They might be teasing some additional lore we’re getting in HoT or maybe I just don’t know something really obvious?
It’s also possible they thought it sounded cool and actually has no significant meaning.
Yea the problem with Scarlet was the way they presented her. Shame came out of nowhere, practically rewrote bits of lore to fit what she needed to do for the episode, could do anything you’d ever need to do and spent a good year leading us on a wild goose chase while all the heroes became randomly dumb. It wasn’t really until the final four episodes where she started to become an interesting character, which was far too late for most of the player base.
I imagine if the devs remake Season 1 then they would alter her introduction and other parts of her presentation.
Leveling masteries with Tomes of Knowledge?
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: Kaiden Valor.7163
Yea food and boosters work fine to speed it up, but anything that would directly add exp won’t work (like tombs of knowledge or writs of experience).
I actually recall plenty of interaction with Zhaitan through his minions, and had some pretty fun missions in the personal story where I was genuinely excited to take down one of his minions because it felt personal. In fact, the only disappointing thing about Zhaitan was the horrible end fight. I know Anet says he is truely dead, but for me it would be EPIC if Zhaitan rose again as the final dragon to challenge us.
See, I’ll agree some of Zhaitain’s “intelligent” minions provided some interesting moments but on the whole Zhaitan and its minions were pretty dull and boring. In fact the only one I really recall would be the Sovereign eye and that’s only because he hit me right in the Tybalt
By contrast I’m finding Mordremoth has been presented much better. Even if we gloss over everything Scarlet did, he’s shown himself to be a much more significant threat by attacking areas and even waypoints during season 2. He even attempted to take out all the “world leaders” at one point, but settled for injuring the Pale Tree. The story has done a really gold job of showing that this Elder Dragon is a threat. Much of what Zhaitan did was either pre-game or we got told about and never actually saw.
I think there’s always going to be a lack of direct interaction, but as long as the indirect stuff like what we’ve seen so far is good then villains like the elder dragons can work.
But for me it’s not necessarily the villain that matters, and I realise not everyone will share the following views, as long as the story surrounding the villain is good then I don’t care too much if the villain sucks. It’s like with Abaddon, in Nightfall is a practically non-existent villain as we only deal with his agents and then when we meet him all we do is attack him but because the story surrounding him was decent he gets remembered and no one cares too much.
So back to GW2. I feel season 2 was a step in the right direction, with ups and downs. But from what I’ve seen in the HoT beta, between the open world events (which really are part of the story) and the story instance I feel ArenaNet is heading in the right direction for a better story and better story telling. I’m sure there’ll still be slip ups for the lore buffs to rip apart though

I completely agree with that logic, it’s the same reason I didn’t play those elite specs and just focused on the Revenant.
All I meant by it was, they’ve got to reveal them all. So just have patience and they’ll reveal Engineer in due time

Why is everyone telling him to be patient? By the time they tell him the details, the expansion will effectively be out.
And if it isn’t then he will have waited almost a year since the expac was initially announced. As it is, there are people who have pre-paid real money and that was a month ago at least.
The best we got for a release date was “definitely this year” and that doesn’t bode well for anyone, especially after money has already been taken.
Engineer is currently my main (although I am admittedly considering swapping to Revenant when HoT launches). I would love it if they did the engineer reveal this week or next week… But I’m not going to make a post saying “Do it instead of a reveal other people were looking forward to”. Hence why I said be patient.
As for people who pre-purchased AND are unhappy with the amount of info reveal so far. All I can say is those people need to learn to be more responsible with their money. If someone isn’t happy with the speed info is coming out and the lack of release date then they should not have pre-purchased until they were happy with it.

finally we will find out about those signet like looking skills :-)
I’m more curious to know what the class mechanic change/addition will be. Are they going to alter how energy works? Change legend swap? Add a third legend to the legend swap?
But I do want to know the skills too
Since we only get an offhand weapon, following Tempest and Chronomancer, the class mechanic should get something added instead of something replaced (so unlike Reaper and Dragonhunter). Just a theory.
So maybe Glint will be on F2? Or we may get additional passive effects when channeling a legend (like 10% damage reduction on Jalis)?
NapTooN does raise a good point about a third legend making base Revenant redundant, but then the same could be said of Tempest and Chronomancer. The only thing you seem to lose on those is one of your chosen trait lines (I’ll never get used to calling them specializations).
I dunno about passives too… I recall a dev (probably Roy) saying they had experimented with that early on and found it just resulted in people picking legends for their passives. I’m guessing that was before they settled on the fixed skill bar idea though, so maybe they’d revisit it with elite spec? I guess it seems the most likely thing so far though.
There’s also energy but I don’t see what they could do with it aside from some sort of bonus from using it or saving it up. I guess if Glint is getting signets, and in GW1 they didn’t use energy, so there’s a possibly synergy there between a reworked energy mechanic and the new legend… But then it wouldn’t translate back to the other legends so, seems unlikely.
I’ve honestly never felt I needed leaps for OOC mobility on any class and I found Impossible Odds did a good job during the BWE. I didn’t bother using legend swap to regain energy because Roy said it’s getting a OOC cooldown on legend swap, and I found energy fills back up fast enough for impossible odds to be viable mobility.

Two miles down the road, take the first left, then at the junction go right. If you follow that road for another mile then go right again you should reach the Engineer’s elite specialization.
But seriously, just be patient. The argument that you don’t care about the other elite specializations is irrelevant, other people are interested in them. They’ll get to Engineer eventually.
Stun breaks aren’t needed if you have a guardian that knows when and how to use Stand your ground, which i normally always do in a group setup.
This is bad thinking IMO. The game is designed around the notion of not needing another class to do things for you, hence the old “no dedicated healer class” that they bring up all the time. The Revenant’s stun break is useful to a Revenant because not every group has a Guardian and not every Guardian uses that skill.
Need projectile destruction? Here you go, hope you enjoy the other 2 utilities though that could be potentially useless for this fight, oh, you also give up your heal for pittance and you now have to micromanage a god awful gimmick.
The issue you have in that scenario is you want a projectile blocking utility, but you’d like to keep (for example) shiro’s skills and you don’t want to have to swap to Ventari because of his other utilities/playstyle. So let’s say they added a “neutral” utility that any legend can use that blocks projectiles. What reason do you now have to swap to Ventari? Or what about if you used that “neutral” utility with Ventari, you’d have a lot of projectile blocking.
In that scenario I just don’t see how they could give you what you want without fundamentally breaking what the Revenant is (and I don’t feel the design of the Revenant is the problem). There’s definitely some utilities that need more work (Jalis taunt for example) and I’m also not a fan of Ventari’s micromanagement mini game so far, especially as GW2 can be quite fast paced . They’ve said it’ll be useful in this “challenging group content” but I don’t know if that’d make me a fan of it.
I’d guess after all specizalations are out.
Still got glint, warrior, thief, ranger, and engineer. Every 3 they take a break to. Maybe one during break and another after
Well actually they did the Tempest all on its own so the “3 at a time” rule is completely out the window.
Given we’re going straight into an elite spec I wouldn’t be surprised if they’re the focus now, with a 2nd beta weekend after the final one. That’d give just over a month for them to implement the feedback they’ve received and get the rest of the elite specs ready for testing.
The main reason I think that is because this test was four elite specs + full revenant. So effectively five professions to test, there’s five elite specs remaining. Also if you split them in the middle it sorta leaves 2 left out.
Either way I would expect the next beta weekend to be in September.
(I’m currently expecting release to be November or December unless they have to delay it into next year).

I’m still in the beta…
Same, I’m able to play on my beta revenant and even are able to represent a guild.
What blue dye is that?
The blue dye is Enameled Sky. I mixed it with some Abyss and Celestial.
Also, I dc’d again ankitten ot able to log back into the beta char, so ANet has fixed it now :P
Thanks, I’ll have to give it a try next beta weekend as it looks pretty good. Didn’t spend too long on my dyes this time but I’m aiming for a blue theme to it.

I’m pretty sure they said (or meant) the first story instance. I don’t feel like re reading it to check, but basically we can only access the first story instance. The rest you’ll have to wait for the expansion.
First impression on the story instance
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: Kaiden Valor.7163
There seem to be some pretty significant differences in the story, depending on your race. Sylvari can actually hear Mordremoth’s whispers, so for example during the first bossfight, the cutscene towards the end (with the tendril/worm thingy spitting out more enemies) does not have any spoken lines for non-Sylvari PCs. If you play a Sylvari, you’ll actually hear the dragon and his minion talk.
I quite liked that.
Wow, definitely going to make a sylvari and play that before the beta is over.
The way Impossible Odds currently works seems fine for OOC movement to me. Even without swapping legend to get instant 50 energy, the time it takes to regen isn’t bad at all.
As far as I recall reading, Roy only said that the legend cooldown would be added, but the skill will remain the same? (if he has said more than that could someone point me to it).
I know
But it looked cool so I didn’t care.
First impression on the story instance
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: Kaiden Valor.7163
Yea there seemed to be more anti-sylvari sentiments from some of the NPCs than in previous Betas.
Also the lip sync and characters looking at each other was a nice improvement. I didn’t realise what was happening at first when my Charr randomly turned his head but then I realised he was talking to Rox and she was in that direction.
I used it at the same time as a smokescale and it looked rather cool. Because we both kept shadow stepping to hit each other it resulted in us moving around the immediate area in a shadow stepping battle.
I got myself stuck in cliff (well I think it was a large rock just next to a cliff but they were practically the same thing) after using it on an enemy that was stood too close I guess. Should’ve taken a picture for the devs, if it happens again I’ll definitely remember.
I’ve been primarily using it to swap between ranged and melee. Engage with sword/axe and shiro, then if things are looking bad swap to hammer and use shiro’s “Riposting Shadows” to get some distance. Maybe also swap legend to get some healing in (I’ve been experimenting between Jalis and Ventari, unsure which I’ll stick with). Or just use impossible odds + enchanted daggers to get some quick hammer attacks and healing in.
I’m finding Shiro and Jalis work kinda well together for me. Malyx just isn’t my style and I’m currently feeling Ventari works best if you’re primarily using him and playing a support role with a different legend as more of a backup plan (but I haven’t played with him a lot).
But yea for me the addition of weapon swap has been an improvement to how the Revenant plays.
4 beta char slots - can't create Revenant?
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: Kaiden Valor.7163
It’s definitely available and on more than just human this time because I made a Charr Revenant
I don’t know if it is restricted on the other races though?
actually, ive seen more people say about how OP the mobs are, you just assume its just 1 player..typical :P, and won’t post, knowing how rude, condescending, and brutal the forum knights are, just because they don’t specifically agree with 1 thing.
At the start I noticed a lot of players following old zerg strategy of just swarm in a mass and hope it goes ok, but because of the narrower areas and mobs being better it isnlt working.
I’ve also noticed a lot of Revenants seem to think sticking to Shiro and sword/sword will allow them to get past everything (there were a couple of people complaining in chat about how Shiro hasn’t “saved the Revenant” when really they just don’t get the Revenant).
The snipers right at the start of the instance are the only ones that gave me any trouble but that’s only because I falsely assumed they’d be weaker then they were. They definitely require you to pay a bit more attention, but otherwise they’re not a terribly difficult mob.
Also the NPC allies seem to be dishing out more damage than they have in the past (or at least one of them was).
(edited by Kaiden Valor.7163)
If the serial code you used to register the core game came from a retail vendor (rather than buy.guildwars2.com or in-game) and was applied to your account between January 23, 2015 and June 16, 2015, you’ll also be eligible for a free character slot if you apply a Heart of Thorns pre-purchase serial code before the expansion release.
I am reading that to mean if you bought & applied the core game between those dates.
I also found the cutscenes extremely quiet, this wasn’t helped by the fact that the map’s background music continued playing over them at normal volume.
I’m also experiencing bad audio quality with the voiced Mordem enemies but I’m assuming that’s just because they haven’t finished cleaning that all up? (Volume is fine, they just sound like really low quality audio).
Or what Ayrilana said.
You’re supposed to start in a special instance of silverwastes and then it’ll guide you to verdant brink. Which then kicks off the initial story instance for verdant brink.
If it didn’t do that and isn’t providing a way to get in you might have to just recreate the beta character.
Roy’s comment on how energy works vs how it will work the next time we play it, for those that missed it:
The energy mechanic is kind of weird when out of combat right now and that’s something we’ve already addressed internally. In the next iteration you’ll see it’ll have the updated energy bar.
Basically, you can’t use the upkeep skills right now because you don’t have the upkeep to spend to use them because when you are out of combat energy upkeep drops from 5 per second base to 0 when you are resting at 50% energy. In the new version you will always be at 5 per second base, it’ll instead just cap energy at 50% out of combat. Which should solve a lot of the weirdness.
The answer is no.
6 hours 20 minutes
I would expect that, much like the Heroic Edition upgrade for the base game, the Deluxe Edition upgrade will remain available post-launch. (However I don’t think there’s any official statement anywhere that says that).
EDIT: Forgot to say, yes the upgrade is currently available in game.

I always struggle to convert anet’s time to local time. So I made timer for upcoming Revenant and Stronghold Test Weekend.
- Starting time converted for all timezones: http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/fixedtime.html?msg=Pre-purchasers%3A+Guild+Wars+2+Revenant+and+Stronghold+Test+Weekend&iso=20150710T12&p1=234

Your timer says 18 hours until it starts, I believe you may have set the wrong date/time as it starts in just under 7 hours from now.
Q: Why this long of a wait? Why the pricing?
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: Kaiden Valor.7163
TL;DR – The reason it took “three” years is because were working on other projects.
Why three years? I think we can mostly agree that Living World Season 1 especially wasn’t exactly content worth anybody’s time or looked like actual effort was put into it. Season 2 improved quality overall, but it was very bare bones.
So why three years since release for the first major expansion?
Well, the answer is kinda obvious. They had to realise that Living World (season 1) wasn’t delivering what a lot of people wanted before they can shift focus to work on an expansion. It’s pretty clear their original plan was to have the Living Word function a replacement for expansions, it didn’t quite work out like that so they took a look at their plans and adjusted (which is presumably around the time they decided to work on an expansion).
There was also the Chinese release being worked out during that time. They just had their manpower tied up in other projects. Regardless of if those projects worked out or not, that’s why it took “so long” for them to begin working on an expansion.
I also think that Living World season 1 could’ve worked out if it was focused more on permanent additions.
For example if the tower of nightmares had been constructed in an entirely new zone, with some of the open world events (and the tower’s interior content) being in that new zone as a permanent edition then I believe people would’ve been more receptive. Same with the molten alliance dungeon. I really enjoyed it and it would’ve be a nice permanent addition to one of the maps. Marionette? Same, people liked it and if it had been added as a new world boss people would’ve been happy. Etc, etc, etc.
So I don’t believe Season 1 was a complete failure (well, ok I really hated the story with Scarlett most of the way through, for me it only got mildly interesting towards the end). There was a lot of great content in it that unfortunately we’re probably never going to see again, even if they add replayability to Season 1.
Edit: noticed a typo!

I want to see one single thread where lordkrall is not defending this game in a cheap way.
His point was entirely valid though. Whether or not you’re interested in what they revealed in those 8 weeks, they still revealed some information about the game. The pretty big one being Guild Halls.
