It is a good change for PvE unless you are on a top 3 server or in a raiding guild.

I for one am not in regards of both, so I am looking forward to the mega server. The boss schedule might be a bit tight but I do not think it is set in stone forever this way.

I have absolutely nothing againt TTS. But in fact, it was nothing more than a band-aid for a borked raid encounter.

I am happy they fixed the borked encounter, if it works without a band-aid now, why would I be sad?

They didn’t fix the encounter, instead I guess they’ll have the opposite effect if every guild will stop doing Tequal and the wurm because of the stress it will cause to organize everything. We can say godbye to the wurm, maybe only Tequatl will still be killed on some lucky servers since it requires less people.

The wurms have never been killed on my server, and Tequatls sits in his cage for 15 minutes since he was patched.

At least people will get a chance to just spawn in the right instance full with people to actually do the event. Success or failure is secondary. There will be an event, not just a deserted boss fight.

People who want to do the world event will come together without any artificial step, which is the first step into the right direction.

They will open the encounter to thousands of players who have been unable to do the event on low population servers unless they joined a one-trick-pony guild.
You can manually start the event now, so adapt your schedule a bit and you will be fine.

Opinions on the Entire GW2 Patch Update?

It was an update (sort of a feature patch) for Star Wars Galaxies called “New Game Enhancement”.

The NGE is mostly seen as the reason why SWG failed. So putting it in the title makes the whole discussion sort of biased.

Via release, GW2 was far superior in poplarity than ESO, it got better recieved by the majority, it got better recieve by the media and it quickly became the most commercially successful MMO since 2004’s WoW. ESO won’t change any of that, neither will it become close to those milestones and if you really believe they will, be ready for some disappointments.

Why are we talking about ESO so much?
The mmo that I see as the biggest competition is Everquest Next.

Yeah, the funny thing is, ESO is not even on sale in stores (only headstart right now), and he predicts what’s going on in the future.

I know, the hate for ESO is big on this forums, but people do underestimate the impact it can have on the online market.

As always people only see the copies sold that they are impressed by.
I am waiting for the official data of NCsoft for the first quarter of this year. We will see very well, in what state GW2 is by that point.

Because everyone who have no point in this forums and who is bored enough to hate go by with ESO as an excuse. It is not the hate for ESO that is big, it the amount of haters who have left the game and have nohing to do but flame on the forums.

Why do you think people have no point? Why did they leave? Why did they leave for something so inferior as ESO? Why would they flame the forum instead of playing this game or another?

There is an elefant in this room, but hey, you seem to prefer not to talk about it…

Nothing in this game should be hard period.

People who really want hard content are playing other games. Hard content in this game is deserted.

Old Arah, old Orr, too difficult, got nerfed.
Tequatl and wurms, both dead events on many many servers.
New dungeon path inTA? Noone goes there anymore.

People just don’t want difficult content. My guess is, that they are avoiding it because the rewards are so, wait for it, non-existent.

Doesn’t matter, hard content in GW2 is a waste of DEV time.

With all due respect, this feature patch will hardly bring anyone back to the game, let alone make them leave another one.
The result of these changes is too marginal to have any impact at all. You said you like the game and you like the changes, which is great. What ANet has to do though is convince those people who stopped playing, that it is a good idea to come back.
The new player train for the West is long gone with the game not offering a new boxed expansion.

My first comment stays true: Too little, too late.

You do not convince people to return by just putting some make-up on to cover the age.

I think people, in general, underestimate how much work goes into a patch like this.

People just do not care how much work goes into patches like this. Why would they. They care about themselves and what the product has to offer. That is how the economy works.

People do not get excited about bug fixes or balancing, they are expected. A hundred minor fixes or QoL changes are still just a hundred minor changes. Nothing big about that.

I have a hard time to see any meta changes incoming for PvP. It will still be all about condition bunkering. Maybe some new toys for some classes, but still, no meta change.

People are tired of the “wait and see” mantra, they want something to really look forward to. Those features are not sufficient in this matter.

In the end, the thing that people can not deny is:

This “Big Feature Patch” offers very little for existing players. Most of the changes are a result of the China release. Some minor QoL changes like a wardrobe, accountbound dyes (should have been like this from day one) and the loss of the laughable repair fee.

The new trait system would have been good if it was part of the release, but now? Who cares? They reworked it for the China release, and now they just put it in the Western version too, even though it makes litte sense. It punishes new players and give old players an edge. How does this make any sense?

The only thing big about this feature patch is the way, ANet has announced it. Calling it big was one reason for the hype. They should have called it a minor upgrades to some game systems.

But ANet tends to suffer backlashes from their own marketing constantly and they seem to not learn from it.

What stays is a bad taste in the mouth, disappointed players, and happy developers of other online games.

Thank you ANet for the “Big Troll Patch”!

GG

I couldn’t disagree more. New traits, changes to rune sets and changes to sigils including being able to use two on two handed weapons is pretty big. We have no clue what this will do to the meta.

And you know whether they’re making it for China and we got it too is completely 100% irrelevant. What’s relevant is that we got it. It doesn’t matter that in your opinion things should have been in since launch. They weren’t and now they are.

You don’t like and haven’t liked this game for a long time. So when a patch comes out that doesn’t change the features you like you say its’ s a small patch. There’s nothing at all small about this patch.

And we don’t even know everything about it yet.

The first few new trait after 18 monthes is a big thing? One per trait line? It is nearly as impressive as all those new skills we got…

Not being able to use two sigils in 2h weapons was an oversight that has been a topic on the forums since beta. What is this going to change? And the runes, they now give you less freedom for your build. The meta was melee DPS in PvE, the meta will be melee DPS in PvE. PvP meta won’t change either even though I do not care for PvP anymore.

And you got one thing wrong, I actually like the game itself, just the fact that it has not evolved over the last 18 monthes is really frustrating. This game is going nowhere.

Dungeon design is one of the best I’ve ever seen in the mmo landscape. They blow the dungeons of Guild Wars 2 out of the water.

That’s the thing I’m looking forward to. Though let’s be honest, blowing the GW2 dungeons away is not difficult at all. A highly limited combat system, an unpolished release and 1.5 years of total negligence make no recipe for success.

Yeah, it is hard to understand why people would play GW2 for the dungeons. They are boring and feel all the same, mostly because of the “everyone melee DPS” stacking nature.

It is because noone is playing the game, but shhh, don’t tell anyone.

They will tell you to guest on a full server and everything is ok. This seems to be the temporary solution. If you want a permanent solution, buy gems and migrate to the top 3 servers, otherwise you are pretty much borked on PvE content.

Nah, they will say, if I don’t like the game, I should play something else. Problem, I like the game somehow, just not the countless flaws. Like why do we not just merge all those empty servers? Because we expect millions of players to come back out of the blue some day?

I do not know.

A.Net has a small team compared to most major MMO developers (Blizzard has 4700 employees). They were focusing on important fixes, then trying to figure out what makes the most sense.

They have given plenty since launch of the game. I for one look forward to see all that comes from them.

If you want to swin in the AAA games pool, you better prepare for the sharks in there.
Having a small dev crew that can only achieve so much, while acting like you have the bestest updates might hurt you, if you get compared to what other games offer in bigger updates.

The good thing about ANets core system is:

You can just forget about the game for some monthes, and when you log back in it is still the same old same.

Even after the feature patch, for old players, things will be mainly the same old same.

To somehow cover that, ANet invented the LS, which is the same old same, just time gated for the rewards.

The bad thing about ANets core system is:

At some point, people get bored of the same old same and will move on. In theory they can come back at any time, but they will just see the same old same, get bored and play other stuff.

In theory, other games might be inferior to the core mechanic, but there is only so much old a player can take before he gets bored. New shinies are exiting.

Mesmers get as many illusions as Kasmeer. Thiefs stay as op as they are. Necros cast pets like Trahearne. And engineers can shoot with two rifles (which will still fail).

If all that gets included, you can have your copy of a skill of another game, maybe.

Well, I tend to critizice gamplay relevant decisions. Story, gear progression, game progression in general.

I have never ever critiziced the gem store itself (well I have critiziced the sprocket gathering tool, as it was a special case, but ANet dropped that model). It is a necessary evil for the developers to keep the game running.

So this topic is no critic on the gem store, rather something I have realized reading the first feature patch notes, and confirmed after the second.

Don’t worry, when the game goes P2W, I will leave a comment here or there, but we are – for now – far away from that.

And this whole post is moot now. Things actually got way less gem store dependent. Account bound dyes? Less dye pack purchases. Retrait anywhere? No need to by instant trait resets.

I do not know if you realized, that dyes will be very hard to come by now. The mystic forge or the gem store. Taking them out of the world, is obviously a move to make the other options more commonly used.

And the wardrobe, we will have to wait and see. I bet there will be stuff on the gem store for it, they will probably add a function where you can buy many skins directly for the locker somehow in the gem store. At least that is what I would do, if I was ANet.

Nope, warrior profession is easy to learn, easy to master. And it is super strong on all aspects.

It is the PvE overlord. For everything. The most played class for a reason – it is the favor of the month, just every month.

Playing anything else is just weaker. Why would people not understand that there needs to be balancing. And nerfing one class is easier and safer than buffing seven others. Especially if one class is just totally out of place.

If ANet is serious about balancing, there will be more and bigger reasons to whine incoming.

What players want is a break from the terrible LS, which they now get.

They want a break from the bad stuff and more of the good stuff.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Kaiyanwan.8521

This is often called “Altitis”, which simply means, that you like to create new characters for various reasons. Be it the looks, the class mechanics, disliking later content, or whatever.

I do not think most GW2 players have this, as people tend to level at least one character to max level to see what the game offers.

From what I have seen, people with altitis tend to give up at one point, as they have a hard time to break a certain level barrier and therefore missing out a lot of content. Restarting new characters can only entertain you for so long and areas start to get boring.

I am actually more of the opposite, as I usually have a main that is there for everything and very few other characters (well I once manged to level a necro to 80 as second main, but the game already felt repetative).

My advice is not to stick to one character, but you should choose one of your toons and level him each playsession just one level. After that, play whatever you want. This way you will eventually reach the level cap and be able to see all content.

Im doing that on my ele build. Exacly sacrificing 20 trait points to achieve that. And really it is 8% nerf which is the buff overall with crit dmg reduction (on these THIEVES you are losing 31% crit dmg)… Needeles to say wihners gonna whine. 270 hp per sec (after nerf) to like 130 on ele… Btw armor is strictly sustain stat.

It’s funny how you compare ele’s signet to warriors as eles also have access to water attunement. That’s two more sources of healing. You can’t compare the two directly as you need to take into account all sources of healing that the class has access to for balance purposes.

How about an ele in water attunement will do exactly no damage, while a warrior with his signet on will just not have to sacrifice anything as long as the signet is equipped.

Where is the point? What’s next, telling other people to trait for healing just to get the same healing results as warriors slotting a passive?

Because they said they will be available from an NPC, dude. But I agree with what someone said. It’s funny how people believe this look4pay bullkitten. GW2 is obviously p2w from the moment they allow you to directly buy gold.

You can buy gems and convert them into gold, where is the difference.

And they said, you will need gold AND skill points to unlock traits at a trainer. So selling traits on the gem store will safe you spending skill points on traits. New players and new characters in genereal are short of skill points, so they could safe them, if they purchase traits on the store.

Selling stuff like that is fairly common in games like LotRO or AoC. I do not see any P2W. It is just a shortcut, which is cool with me, as I prefer to actually play the game for rewards, than to buy them and be bored.

The thing is, at least I see features added with the feature patch being more of an possible upgrade to the gem store, to make it more interesting. Which is good. This game runs on the store, it should offer some stuff people want besides cosmetics.

From what I have seen so far with what is coming in the feature patch (and what is still to be announced and might be as in the China beta), I get the feeling that the feature patch itself is just an overhaul of the game mechanics to create more things ANet can sell on the gem store.

Buying traits on the gem store for example is a new possible option and I will eat my mesmer clones, if this will not be introduced. Many other F2P title have similar offers.

I also expect there to be a wardrobe (to be announced next monday) and account bound dyes, that will work like in China.

Don’t get me wrong, I am OK with the idea of a stronger gem store, as ANet needs to make some coin somehow. P2Convinience will become P2Shortcut. Which is fine too, as long as you can somehow earn most stuff while playing (like with traits).

So this is no rant, just something I thought more people would have realized by now.

Maybe my brain fools me, and I am just seeing things that are not there, so feel free to correct me.

Patience is everything, in EVERY game. I personally can wait and hope for something good in Season 2.

You mean I have to create my own carrot on a stick to keep me entertained in a theme park MMO?

That is some new approach to the genre. What is next, do I have to imagine conversations between NPCs myself? At least Braham would shut up then.
