Why did you buy the recipe for Tailor that requires Damask? Armorsmith/Leatherworker would have been a billion times cheaper (and it makes 0 difference which profession you use to craft it).

Well you need the profession at 500 don’t you?

Thing is, most of the material costs are set by players, not Anet. About a year ago, getting copper and iron and whatnot was a fraction of the cost of what it is now. These prices increased because of the demand of the players and the people who play said market.

This is why there is no ‘set cost’. Because as long as materials are controlled by players via the market, there will never be such a thing.

Nah, this is because crafting damask takes just so much more stuff than crafting other ascended ressources.

Yeah, tailors are pretty much effed with the upgrade. Leatherworking is like how much cheaper?
Balancing was never a strength of ANet, be it classes, items or the market.

I keep hearing people say: GW2 has bad AI. But I have no idea what people mean by that. Do you mean the variety of abilities that a enemy has? Cause that’s not AI. Do you mean stacking? Since that seem more to be a dungeon design issue than an AI issue.
Really I’d like to add to the conversation but I think the vocabulary needs some refinement.

You are up to something. It is hard to call what we see in GW2 AI. I think people talk about the scripting.

Quality wise it is the greatest. We all know what those korean MMOs offer and the western market doesn’t accept them. If you like gear tradmill though, it is not about quality anylonger but personal preferences and Gw2 isn’t for you.

What is ignorant in this thread, is that a whole game gets critisized as trash becasue of one aspect.

Quality wise? We have still tons of bugs some of them from even before release. The mesmer class alone can fill a whole patch notes worth with them.

The quality of the current update is abysmal, half of the stuff didn’t work at all the first day, and some stuff took a week to fix (of content that exists two weeks).

Bashing other games won’t help. They are successful because they convince their customers. GW2 seems to fail on that topic.

Guild Wars 2 is the leading MMO in the genre at the moment, wether you like it or not.

Wut?

Name another title, lol

GW2 is a little fish in a big pool full of sharks.

http://massively.joystiq.com/2013/12/09/blade-and-soul-surpasses-1-8-million-concurrent-users-in-china/

Seems to be ahead by about 14 million users. Not even counting Korean players.

Blade and Soul is the most generic trash I have ever seen. Guild Wars 2 had the right ideals but again, did horribly on executing them. Rewards are incredibly lacking as well.

That is your opinion, over 20 million people seem to enjoy it.

And the point was to show, that GW2 is not the greatest MMO on the market.

Who are we to say the Western market is the only right and important one. I am fairly curious how the release of GW2 in China will go.

All that beside, GW2 needs real content, people are bored or already gone. The LS was a disappointment, and most people do not even want a second incarnation.

So why is it, that ANet is against a traditional approach to delivering content, be it a big content patch or a real expansion. I just don’t see a good reason for it.

When did you see a number of concurrent players or active accounts of GW2 the last time?

How would you know how successful the game is? NCsoft reports tell us a different story.

ANet should have a plan and stop experimenting around. Players don’t want to be lab rats or beta testers for experimental content, they just want content. Good content.

To answer the question of the title of this thread, we shout for an expansion because if we don’t, it might never happen. The higher-ups need to see demand before they invest the funds to create the supply.

You’ve got it all wrong, man. ANet is doing expansions. That was always the plan. What they said at the start of LS1, and what they’ve been doing ever since then, is releasing expansion content as it is ready for implementation, rather than making us wait until it is all finished and releasing it all at once.

You are getting the expansion right now. You’ve been getting your expansion all along. The only difference between what ANet has been doing and a traditional expansion model is the release schedule. The content is going to be the same. The only difference is when you get the content.

Look at the release schedule for WoW:

Initial Release — 11/2004
Burning Crusade — 1/2007 (26 months later)
Wrath of the Lich King — 11/2008 (22 months later)
Cataclysm — 12/2010 (25 months later)
Mists of Pandaria — 9/2012 (21 months later)

It’s approximately 2 years between updates. That’s pretty typical.

GW2 was released in 8/2012, 19 months ago. It is way too soon to be comparing the two models. I understand there are some items on your wish-list that haven’t come out yet. Be patient. It’ll happen. By all means let ANet know what kind of content you are looking for. I am also looking forward to seeing new Areas and Zones, and would love to see a new playable Race or Profession. But complaining that it hasn’t happened yet, at this point in the life of the game, is silly and unrealistic.

Shouting for an expansion is a waste of your time and energy. Instead, try posting helpful comments about what kind of content you want to see prioritized in the upcoming year.

You are not seriously pulling the WoW card are you. Just look what was added as content in between expansions.

It might have taken them two years till the first expansion but just look what people got:

http://wowpedia.org/Patches/1.x

How is what we got in the last 18 monthes getting even close to the sheer amount of content that was patched into WoW.

If you are referring to this paragraph, ‘Territory-wise, the lack of releases also manifested in lower sales and revenues. In North America, quarterly revenue fell from ?71 billion ($67 million) to ?25 billion ($24 million) year-on-year, while European revenue fell from ?51 billion ($48 million) to ?11 billion ($10 million).’, this isn’t about GW2, but about the company as a whole. So, we really don’t know what GW2 alone did. Pretty sure the ‘lack of releases’ is a big clue.

2012 West:

GW2 → $112 million
NCsoft → $67 million + $48 million = $115 million

I am pretty sure that those $3 million dollars from other NCsoft titles in the west broke the camels back – seriously.

Probably because the game is not in a good state? He/she bought the game, he/she has as much of a right to state his/her opinion as you.

Who are you to judge people if they should or should not speak their minds.

The game not being in a good state is an opinion, not fact. I’m enjoying the game just fine. I think ESO and Wildstar are jokes of MMO’s. But hey, that’s just my OPINION.

Nope, it is a fact:

Where did you get that title? Did you make it up? This is the actual title of the article: NCsoft annual profits up 3% to $150m

I think any game’s revenue would be down compared to its launch quarter.

It is not a fact. 4 million sold copies is a bad state, yes… Guild Wars 2 is still the biggest MMO in the last 5, maybe ten years. So please don’t come up with things that doesn’t show anything.

Oh, you read the article?

“However, with the title still to launch in Asian territories, traditionally NCsoft’s strongest market, those numbers are expected to climb again soon.”

As I have mentioned earlier, GW2 has to compete with Blade&Soul which is big in China (and also NCsoft), which has not even released in the west.

GW2 is 18 monthes old, how many boxes do they still sell here in the west, what do you think. Where will the money to keep the game running come from?
From the few that think investing in the gem store is a good idea?

Numbers don’t lie, and I am fairly curious for early April, when most Asian companies start their next business year and give the numbers for the latter one.

GW2 is a mediocre trash game.

The playstyle is awful. The combat is like B&S but only 10 times slower. And the skill system is quite awful, you can’t come up with any tactical component due to the fact that the skill system is shallow, boring and completely uninspired.

The game is hyped into heaven and has got the GW-brand, but many ppl will realize at least one month of playing, how awful the game is in the end and they all will come back.

Where B&S has heart and polish, GW2 lacks both. Maybe 1-2 months this game will be a “danger” because of the “WOW ITS NEW” factor. After that it will take the SW:TOR path into oblivion.

Look, I can make up things too. Fixed your post to point out how generic it is.

Maybe because the developers are convinced that their product is good enough to keep many people paying a fee for the content they enjoy.

Ask yourself, where would GW2 be, if they asked for a sub. Would anyone pay for the content we get?

I have a feeling the biggest share of people who bail on gw2 for it will be back or have wentto try something else within 1-3 months

Have you tried AvA?

The point is, people will leave and not all will come back as you said. Making low pop servers even more barren, and draining potential gem buyers.

How do you think this game will keep going? I see the China release sceptical, they have to compete with some big titels over there like Soul&Blade which is F2P, while GW2 is B2P even over there. So I wouldn’t expect too much profit on that side.

Every costumer gone is a problem of insufficient marketing.

(PvE) Does Lazy Kai's build still work?

in Mesmer

Posted by: Kaiyanwan.8521

Kaiyanwan.8521

I’m pretty sure Kai’s guide is just beserkers gear.

Just retrait to something like 10 (III)/20 (II,IV) /0/25(II, VIII)/15 (III?) or 10/30/0/30/0 for dungeons.

These phantasm builds are great for dungeons, but less good in the open world where your aren’t focusing a single target.

10/30/0/20/10 and 0/30/0/25/15 are the accepted meta-traits, with sword/focus and sword/sword.

You could easily take the 10/30/0/20/10 build and modify it to be similar to Lazy Kai for open world (putting the shatter spec in domination, deceptive evasion in dueling, etc.).

Wow, wait there.

You missed the point of the build. It is to double trait the GS to have a very high clone output and a fast iZerker while containing utility and IP to do damage.

10/30/0/20/10 has non of that.

I am really happy, that my build is still popular and to be honest, I still use it myself.
If you have missed my actual guide, look at my signature.

If you just want to run a dungeon without min/maxing or needing reflections, you can simply switch to Lazy Kai’s Phantastic Phantasm build. In most cases it will be good enough for what you encounter.

I am suprised you missed the obvious sarcasm. As we all know, there will be at least one of the DEV’s playing the wildstar beta instead of ESO, even though it will be hard to find anything of value there.

Too Much Temporary Content Can Only Harm GW2

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Kaiyanwan.8521

Kaiyanwan.8521

Some like the LS many seem to not like it. Same for temporary content. That is the indication you get when checking forums, talking to people ingame and seeing mapchat in LA.

Well it was map chat in LA, now it’s in Gendarran. Now map chat in LA is asking if X is still bugged with Y. Sometimes even if Y was never an issue.

But map chat was always also full of people just trolling (at least once someone logging on multiple characters in order to agree with himself how thieves were OP) or just to join in on the “fun” of bashing the game. Most people who disagree would just /ignore or turn off the map chat.

As for the forums, Reddit, Guru, whatever . . . each of those three is not the same group of players, is not necessarily a substantial selection of players, and in two out of the three it is not required they actually have played the game at all to have an account to post.

It’s also the Internet. If there’s any lesson of the Internet it is this – it largely exists to share pornography of various types, funny animal videos, and to complain about things you don’t actually care about.

So what you say is, to ignore all feedback everywhere as everyone is trolling anyways. No matter of ingame, here or on other boards.
Wouldn’t you think that something might be seriously wrong if the feedback is just bad everywhere?

Nope, everything looks good to me, so all is fine.

I fear, people highly underestimate the potential effect of ESO on GW2.

The reason there will be no big content updates in April is probably, that everyone at ANet is going to play ESO to learn at least from AvA.

You have literally no idea what goes on in a studio do you?

I do not care what is going on at ANet. I do not care if it is hard to program the code, or write a story.

I did not buy GW2 to know what’s going on internally at ANet. If I want to become a coder or a novelist, I go to a place to learn it.

I bought GW2 to be entertained. I like the games core. Do I have to be a novelist or a coder to be able to criticize it? Or a specialist on HR, so I know what’s going on?

No.

I do not even think I am overreacting, I was thinking about making this descision for a fairly long time. I am no longer convinced that the product receives the quality it deserves. I care for it, but there is nothing I can do but to give feedback. I surely gave my feedback on this boards, in positive and negative ways.

So the choice is:

Eat whatever they serve, or just find some other place for lunch. If you get crap every time at your standard place and nothing changes even if you tell them, accepting that this is what you will get in the future too is probably a reasonable conclusion.

No overreaction involved.

“The next round of major features will be bundled together into a large “feature only” release that will come after the first season of the Living World 2014 has finished.”

A feature release is not an expansion, it’s a release focused on game features. Examples of game features we’ve done in the past would be: guild missions, account achievement system, spectator mode, new pvp maps, daily world boss chests, removing culling and giving visibility options, the WvW WxP system, etc.

Thank you, those speculations get out of hand fast…

Your build in GW2 is defined by your gear. It is just so that everyone runs zerker gear, so you make up fine nuances to build an artificial build variety.

All are DDs in first place. Then they get some support to raise the DPS of the group. This has nothing to do with what the DEVs were talking about.

The system is broken, the encounters are all about burning down the boss, no other mechanic needed. No tanking – no tanking gear needed, no real healers – no healing gear needed, nothing else needed but DD.

This is why all group (zerg) content feels the same: Do as much damage as you can, dodge, damage.

If you say so, record a fractal 49 or 50 with just direct damage, nothing else. No support and no controls.

I can agree that open world zergfest is pretty much what you say but how would you design a content with tanks and healers in open world for 150 people?

I probably wouldn’t design content for 150 people in GW2, it is simply not really designed for large scale battles with many NPCs.

Just imagine 150 players fighting an army of enemies, not just a single HP sponge, or groups of 10, but hundreds of enemies.

Well this game was never even designed around zergs in the first place, that is why all this is a futile discussion anyways.

Nope, build diversity is pretty much dead and that since not far after release. With DPS (DD) being the only role that exists in PvE, everything besides that is obsolete.

But this is not the players fault, it is just bad game design.

your build in gw2 is defined by your weapons and traits. not by your gear. dps isnt a role.
in top guilds every single player is upport (offensive AND defensive support), cc, and
dps at the same time. exactly what the devs where talking about when they made this game.

Your build in GW2 is defined by your gear. It is just so that everyone runs zerker gear, so you make up fine nuances to build an artificial build variety.

That’s TWO heavy expansions in ONE year and a half.

Yeah, we could have had two major expansions by now, just imagine.

Stop doing living story, make an expansion!

Serioulsy, do you think people would pay for an expansion after what they got as content in the LS?

It will just give them another reason to never look back.

What ANet has to deliver is a real content patch, something that convinces people, that they have the capability to create content that is engaging.

Why all so negative?

It is pretty difficult to give positive feedback, if the only good thing about the content is, that the buggy and lame LS is over and we get a short break from it.

I dare ArenaNet make a poll for every player to rate the first “season” of Living Story, the anticipation of the next season, and publish the result.

The sample size might be too small to make it a valid poll…

ANet does not really want to know what people think of their LS, they prefer to stay somewhere over the rainbow with unicorns pooping rainbows.

I don’t think willingness is the problem.

There is just no motivation to do so.

No positive motivation → rewards
No negative motivation → punishment

And in a zerg, it is always the fault of the others anyway.

We had this before, the answer is simple:

The players get neither properly rewarded for good gameplay (better loot and I am not talking about a 0.01% higher chance for better gear from boxes) nor punished for bad gameplay (death penalty? lolwut).

Why would they even try?

They need to end this temporary content train as soon as possible. The hole they dug for themselves is starting to look like an abyss.

The only thing that looks like an abyss is the grave that this thread has been necro’d from.
