@urbancat Yup, the “best game” is the one where YOU are having fun, where YOU discovered new ways of having fun. If the mentality of some ppl are “Meh, no LS for the next 2 weeks, i’m bored”, then yea, ofc they think other games are better, since they dont try wvw, pvp, or thinking at a new goal in the game and try to accomplish.
What about the people that have been here since release? They surely are getting out of goals after waiting for solid content since forever…

Don’t worry, most of the people bringing up ESO won’t be here too much longer.
Then, everything is alright.

I fear, ANets silence is the only reason why people are still here.
If the one patch people await will be less than uber awesome, people will get mad. ANet probably is afraid to see the reaction on what they have to offer.

Everyone is max level doing endgame or WvW stuff.
Guest on one of the super busy servers for a chance at seeing someone while levelling.
Doing endgame? What game are you playing? Are you playing another game that has actual endgame, than you should mention it. Like this:
Everyone is max level and as they are bored, they are doing endgame in some other MMOs or WvW stuff.
Guest on one of the super busy servers for a chance at seeing someone while levelling. Good luck, as everyone is max level and bored there too…
I like how you directly state that everyone is bored at level 80 in the game. Everyone is not max level and everyone is not bored. Percentages vary with who you ask.
I am very sorry. English is not my native language, so maybe my way to transmit information is sort of inefficient. This might cause some minor cofusions about what I say and what I mean.
What I wanted to say is that maybe not everyone is max level, but surely everyone is bored.

Speaks volumes about the state of GW2.

Are you trying to destroy more content? Tequatl is deserted on most servers.
And you think, going to a low level zone, making the first encounter for newbies the most frustrating thing they have ever encountered in a MMO will help this game?
Only if the intention is suicide.

No.
We wanted Dragons. We got Dragons.
No.
We wanted Dragons. We got Scarlet.
Now, 15 monthes later, ANet remembered that this whole game was about those Elder Dragons, and that it was a mistake to ignore that.
Well, there are only six dragons, so if we blow through them all in five years wouldn’t that kind of limit further plot? I mean, it’d be like Lost being about getting back to the island after they got off it successfully.
. . . wait . . .
Look at the game and the LS, how long do you expect there will be enough people around to do all the zerg stuff? Seriously.
They better hurry with the dragons, or there will be noone left to kill the last few ones…

I will laugh so hard, if ESO tells all those nay sayers a lesson on how something they don’t expect to work will actually do.
Don’t get me wrong, I won’t buy it, but all those people here expecting it to go F2P or having no long term influx on GW2 might get their eyes opened.
I played the beta up to level 25 and it is actually a solid game. And well, players can hardly get less endgame content as they get in GW2…

Why wait for season 2 to start/finish before a balance patch?
Balance before season 2 then make minor changes along the way. Seriously it’s like anet wants people to quit the game.
But we can’t quit the game, because we will have our accounts forever (in matters of this games existance).
No matter how many players stop playing, ANet will still count them towards something in their favour… 4.5 Million copies sold or stuff like that, even if 4 Million accounts are deserted.

Wouldn’t you think? Really nothing for us to do at the moment… I mean really you could of had that bar scene in-game during the battle anyways.

Looks like a discussion about moderation to me… ^^

HEY! Yeah, you.
Whatever team is in charge of keeping this—my primary game—welcoming…thank you! Seriously, thank you, moderation team. Sometimes you don’t know what you have ‘till you don’t have it. <3 and cookies and stuff
You are quite welcome, I will make sure and pass on your appreciation to the teams concerned.
For the most part we wouldn’t be able to do anything if it wasn’t for the community itself, they, the denizens of the different home worlds are the source of welcoming warmth when you login. They look after their own little slice of Guild Wars 2 and we wouldn’t have it any other way.
And I for one thought it was not allowed to discuss moderation. What did I miss?

Just think about what you get for a sub of $15 every month in other games.
Then you have to decide for yourself, if the prices are reasonable.
I don’t care. This game has started to move into a different direction than I hoped since Nov 2012, and I stopped investing in it, as I do not support the way we are heading right now.
So in the end, for what the game offers, for me, every single item is now overpriced and no longer acceptable. It is all depending on the point of view.

Wildstar is a WoW 2.0…
This is a statement made in ignorance. It’s as if you don’t know anything at all about the game.
There may be more to Wildstar than a cartoony WoW 2.0 in space, but that was my first impression when I checked out the game’s website many moons ago. Yes this is ignorant, but a game shouldn’t rely on players educating themselves on its intricacies to generate interest.
I think it is the problem we have to face here. People see what they want to see.
People think that if they dislike another game, all reasonable players will dislike it too.
This will not work in favour of GW2. I won’t touch Wildstar from a hundred miles away (I’m too old, with too many obligations), but everyone who truly likes core MMOs must have wet dreams about it every night before release.
ESO might look old fashioned and slow, but it has a story to tell, and the combat feels like combat and not not like running around and spamming auto-attack on everything. And AvA is simply amazing, rewarding and fun.
GW2 is just old and stale by now. No real progression, neither vertical nor horizontal. No new core content like new areas, classes, races or PvP modes since forever.
Why would players not start to try out new things at the current state of the game?

6/10 presentation and scenarios/events some releases it was solo content , but along the end it forced players to run zergs which I really did not enjoy after the first 10 mins.
They did listen to that feedback, though. Marionette, Escape and Battle all forcibly break the zerg up into smaller groups.
Dear heavens, 50 people is still a horrible zerg, breaking up gigantic zergs into hudge zerks is really innovative. It is like putting a zerg into a zerg.
Calling 50 people a smaller group is sort of failing the point…
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
Last time I checked, the forumz said the dps made any and all support obsolete, but perhaps things have indeed changed for the better, and the game isn’t just a glorified version of a single player fps game with the option to zoom out!
Nah, when people talk of support, they mean slot skills that do not necessarily increase only ones own damage, but the damage of the group.
This game is still a mindless DPS fest.
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
ESO is a generic MMO with outdatted quest system that will only last because of fan of the series.
The problem is, that ANet gave up on quests all together. Those heart things? They are just too random to tell a story, they are just like tasks, fire and forget. The personal story is actually the same as the outdated quest system you are talking about, but it just ends, and is gone after Zhaitan.
The LS has no quests, just random zergs and close to zero story. You can not just get rid of so called “outdated stuff” and not replace it. Offering nothing instead of the little you had before does not sound like a good deal.
Everyone who likes a good story is hopefully lost in GW2.
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
I don’t know, maybe ANet already gave up.
Even the main discussion forum is hardly moving anymore. Yeah, yeah, all those people are enjoying the game instead of wasting time on the forums… Sure.
People are bashing ESO, but it is a RPG with roles, that are not bound to classes, that is what I actually expected from GW2. And it has a whole new story to tell, not just junks of crap every two weeks. And AvA, it blows WvW out of this plane of existance.
The funny thing is, I won’t even buy it, but others will. The combat is slower, but that is not a bad thing. It feels like combat, not like spamming 1, 1 and 1 again.
Nah, the feature patch will bring some minor features, maybe some guild stuff, if we are lucky. They do not even hype it, as they know, people would just be disappointed anyways.
I am curious how this game will be getting along with all the competition ahead.
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
ANet thinking about making the gameplay less shallow than a baby pool would help. I do not think people want THE trinity back, but they want something that will make them feel as if the fellowship they are in matters.
Everyone feels so replaceable, so arbitrary. And so does it feel when you play the encounters themselves. God fobid, people would want a bit more depth in PvE than we have right now.
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
(edited by Kaiyanwan.8521)
ANets approach to break the “Holy Trinity” mantra in MMOs:
- Remove tanks
- Remove healers
- Remove mob AI
- Remove mob control
- ???
- Profit
I am deeply surprised this didn’t work out.
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
You might be off with the ranged/melee thing, because if you know to read the bosses you can simply melee dps them down.
You are right with the fact, that this game has the most boring and unispired boss fights I have ever seen in any MMO. They feel all the same, because the bosses all act random, you cannot control the fight.
It is just always a dps/dodge race. The holy trinity just became the holy entity of DPS.
Booooooooooooring.
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
- Some people are set in their ways and do not understand that expansions do not fit this game at all.
- boxed expansions only serve to segregate the population into haves and have not.
- this is a different kind of game which needs a different kind of going about expansions.
- let them take their time and find that new awesome way to deliver more content to us.
They tried 14 monthes to find a new way to deliver more content. Look around, ask ingame, the LS is what people call a fail.
If they had more population, because of players returning after buying the expansion, it would not even matter if the playerbase was spread out more, because there would simply be more players in general.
And the LS can still run in all those vanilla areas, then we call it a win/win.
People just do not want to pay for an expansion, but the truth is, this game needs more money, and they won’t make it with the players left who do not actually spend money on the gem store.
The only other choice is to put P2W items on the store, so that people are finally forced to put some money in the game, and who wants that compared to some real, permanent content?
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
For 14 monthes, ANet has told us that fun is the following:
- Very little real content/story every two weeks.
- Grinding this content over and over and over again, for the chance to get some super rare item
and/or
-Grinding this content over and over and over again, to collect hundreds/thousands of items to get some nice stuff.
How anyone who has not come from an asian grinder can be happy with this is beyond me.
An expansion at least gives the hope that we get something real, that feels immersive, maybe massive and entertaining without mindless repetitive grind.
That is why people ask for an expansion.
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
People are shouting for expansions because this game currently has a total lack of content to keep people logging in.
Don’t make ridiculous statements. This game puts out more content that any MMO ever created.
You’re joking, right? You have to be joking…
Yeah, must have been ironic. Noone would seriously think that fluff and recycled zerg stuff is real content, compared to what other games patch in…
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
Each treasure could have a Black Lion claim ticket scrap, people would farm those maps till the end of days.
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
How about some final bosses of longer DE chains would have a chance to drop them, this might reactivate the open world content and might break champion trains.
Or they could simply up the reward for those chains. Whatever.
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
I think copying other games is just not the greatest feature, even though, copying other games is fairly standard in MMOs (well ESO has treasure maps).
Anyway, most people want more real content instead of a gimmick like this. It is all nice and stuff, but it won’t entertain people for too long.
Dulfy will have all answers in a day.
And btw, why do you want to force more people into dungeons?
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
there never has been and never will be a free market without competitors, so how exactly is this a special situation?
In other news: WoW Killers are unicorns.
It is just, that GW2 had like how many competitors since release? FFIX reloaded was the only true MMO release, and that has failed before.
So there was none, and ANet was lucky. These days are over. We have two big MMO releases right around the corner, and some very potential multi-player titels.
There will be pressure, I for one would like to see ANets answer on this challenge. Silence is for sure the worst approach.
sure, sure, in 2012 and 2013 there were no good game releases. And all already existing MMORPGs had shut down for GW2.
Of cause they have to keep fighting for their market share, either with product quality or marketing. Still, that is the same way it ever was and ever will be.
Yeah, I just fear, that ANet might have gotten too used to the absence of competitors. Hell, even the new WoW expansion will release this year. I am guessing that this will take its toll on the game too.
Meanwhile, ANet is like: Nah, no need to show our players which direction we are going, they luv us so much anyways.

Just give a time when you have been kicked, GMs can see what happened before.
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
There is some abuse with the kick option in groups.
There also is the possibility to report this abuse, resulting in bans in case of being seen so by a GM.

The Leveling & Open World Compendium
The arrogance and ignorance in this thread is ridiculous.
You might think that all those games suck and will fail, but the truth is:
- all of this games will drain players
- if you think all of them will come back after a month or so, you are delusional
- GW2 right now has very little to offer and no info for what is coming if there is anything
- the population of GW2 already took a fair hit over the last few monthes, we see empty servers more and more
We also have Titanfall, Destiny, EQNext and other titels coming that will entertain people for a long time. And people will just hop from release to release instead of playing something as old and stale as GW2.
Something needs to be done, just ignoring what’s going on outside of GW2 will just cause a unpleasant awakening at some point.

I like your build. I’d just pick Mental Torment for Domination Adept, there you go for normal mobs open world.
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
(edited by Kaiyanwan.8521)
- new races
- new classes
- a fair amount of new skills (what did we get, 1 generic heal that is good for nothing , and one heal for each class, that is in regards to the GW history underwhelming)Considering how hard it is for them to balance up the game (just take a look at the profession balance forum) as it is they would willingly pile up more problems for themselves?
There is no balance now, be it in PvP, PvE or WvW. What difference would a new class make then? Or some new skills. If you are worried about eSports ambitions, just make all new skills PvE/WvW only.
eSports, best joke ever.
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
Many people want new zones, not a revamp of old zones so that they look worse than before.
In PvE, we did not get a single permanent new zone since the release of the LS. Why would people who want to explore support a mechanic like the LS.
We also did not get:
- new races
- new classes
- a fair amount of new skills (what did we get, 1 generic heal that is good for nothing , and one heal for each class, that is in regards to the GW history underwhelming)
- new zones
- new quests
As all this has not sufficiently been offered by the LS, people just go with what normally introduces the stuff mentioned above.
An expansion.
The LS failed to convince people that it is the right direction for this game. So the expansion is their final straw for the content they want.
