Oh dear, nice. Sorry then, no Super Roboto against Mordzilla for us.
The Leveling & Open World Compendium

I think people in general are calling it an expansion sized patch because of its size only and not what the GW2 game establishment called it.
We do not even know the size.
Why would people talk about it that way. And why would ANet not give a clarification. The last thing this game needs are more disappointed people because of false expectations.
We know how this ended with “an expansion worth of content” before.
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
As Colin mentioned in this blog post, “Due to the size and scope of the final four story releases in season one, the next round of major features will be bundled together into a large “feature only” release that will come after the first season of the Living World 2014 has finished.”
More information on this feature release will come available after the current living world arc wraps up.
Sorry, I cannot see an expansion sized patch in what is called a large “feature only” release.
Doesn’t seem to be the same. A large patch is a large patch, expansion sized is a whole different kind of expectation.
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
Nah, we didn’t destroy it. If it was of no meaning in the future, ANet would have just added a big explosion.
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
No idea.
On the other hand, you can just put tons of useless data in a patch to blow it up the size of an expansion. Doesn’t mean to get exited about it then though.
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
No we don’t. How unfortunate.
… the marionette. We even see the thing on a screen in Scarlet’s throne room. Wait, I mean control room.
Wish I could loot that abomination from the flying saucer and spread havoc and misery around Tyria.
So what is your guess what will happen with this extra large piece of scrap metal?
Mine would be, we will use it against Mordremoth (Giant robot against giant monster, sounds awefully Japanese to me though)…

You want everyone to have equal levels for each zone – is that not exactly what level scaling achieves? You say living story and events start at level 80 – umm no they start at level 1. And the first dungeon is available from 30. I disagree that this game starts at 80. That being said, leveling is not scaling so its easy to hit 80 within a reasonable amount of time
The leveling is fake as levels do not mean a thing because of downscaling or upscaling, you got that right.
It only excludes you from later zones. So the point is, why having levels at all. That is what this thread is about.
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
Not exactly. It’s quite logical that they do.
The current meta is zerker. The game pretty much doesn’t have a place for any other roles in PvE atm. They want to change that, but it’s a goal. They’re not there yet.
As long as this goal hasn’t been reached, making the bosses require something the game cannot offer in its current state would be insane.Current meta for dungeons, this is the living story we’re talking about. The metagame in pve refers to the most popular techniques and I’m pretty certain that berserker’s is not the most popular gear amidst casual players that do this content.
That’s why they probably have to be carried through all those time gated events.
And that’s probably why the events still fail.
And there is nothing you can personally do about it. Sounds frustrating.
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
Simple human psychology. People feel that zones in which they are level 80 are endgame zones.
If you are downscaled you feel weaker. It might not be true or even the opposite, but that’s just how the brain works.I might agree if the endgame zones were where people tend to congregate, but they’re not. Orr is a ghost town (appropriately enough), for example.
GW2 has been released what, 18 monthes ago. And one part of Orr + Southsun Cove have been the only level 80 combat zones and Southsun Cove does not even have very much there.
Two zones for 18 monthes, who would think that people would get tired of them. There have probably more players left the game because of the lack of new level 80 zones than people going back to the lower level areas to do stuff.

the most desired classes for “endgame” dungeons are Warrior, Guardian, Elementalist and Mesmer, Thieves and Engineers are situational and most pugs avoid them while Rangers and Necromancers are very undesirable.
There are so many things wrong with this post.
First of all, there is no endgame, since your level changes to match the level of the content you play, so if you’ve never been to Charr starting areas with your lv80 Sylvari, you can go there and enjoy it with matched level.
Then, dungeons is not endgame. The gear you can get from them is endgame (if we don’t count ascended tier), but the same gear can be acquired from either Orr temples or the trading post.
Where your personal skills and acquired gear really matter, is a magical place of WvW. That is endgame – not for me, but objectively for everyone.
Nah, he is right.
On a side note, if tough leveling is not your pair of shoes, avoid the mesmer.

Yeah expect this idea these “unique snowflakes” have was the selling point to this game when it came out.. So people ARE entitled for playing how they want.
There’s an additional factor. The devs have been talking about “build diversity” as a design goal for quite some time. Required bosses that want lots of berserker gear is rather contrary to that goal.
You are correct in all matters. But the problem is it jsut seem to many people WANT to play berserkers. The only way they could solve that is remove it. OR make the game to punishing to DPS race players by adding OHK or harder mechanics than press 1.
If the mobs are successful in killing large quantities of berserker gear users, they will not WANT to play as berserker any longer. Dying isn’t fun.
People are going to rage and rage quit if they use your method of balancing.
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
At the end of the day this game is as easy as no other game.
The fact that people fail is, that they are put into large groups with other random people that are just terribad and there is nothing they can do about it.
Unless you bend the system like TTS with overflows. But if that is ok, they could have given us just proper instances…
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
You mean like ever zone would be an endgame zone? And no zones would have been wasted as progression areas (even though ANet thought people would come back on their own, but they just didn’t so they put the LS in the game)?
GW2 would probably have been a better game and closer to GW1, so it was something many people were hoping for before release anyway.
This is no new topic though, it pops up every now and then.

Maybe, just maybe, “build diversity” is also about every character being able to be tuned/customized to fit better different purposes and not exactly about allowing every mixture of random builds to be succesful in any context.
Nope, build diversity is pretty much dead and that since not far after release. With DPS (DD) being the only role that exists in PvE, everything besides that is obsolete.
But this is not the players fault, it is just bad game design.

Those skins are not the reward for the event, they are temporary RNG loot tied to the event.
Rewards are what everyone gets for playing the event and succeed.Actually, yes, they are a part of the reward for the event. Even if it’s not a definitive reward, it’s still a reward specifically for this event that you won’t get elsewhere.
Here, I write it down for you:
To have an equivalent, the loot from the final event in LA would have had to be:
- an ascended trinket
- a 20 slot bag
- 1 or more random ascended items (armor or weapon), tradeable on the TPMaybe some people in full ascended would have had no use for the stuff, but for most, this sounds better than a helmet skin and a lesser vision crystal.
You’re being subjective. Oh yeah, we got a trinket, but are you honestly using apothecary gear?? I’d rather have a skin that I may find works with a certain look, than a completely useless trinket that I will have 0% of ever using.
Also 20 slot boxes mean absolutely nothing nowadays. You can get them for like, nothing (all my toons have the 20 slot exo boxes from fractals and I still have more fractal relics than I know what to do with).
A lesser vision crystal, by comparison, is much more useful to me (and most people these days) than a 20-slot box. It’s essentially worth 1g in mats, plus a handful of obsidian shards.
This event has netted me about 350+g so far worth of drops, from those two rifle skins I found (which are bound to go up in price), mats to craft ascended backpiece for relatively cheap, and some misc. novelty things (angle/devil potions). What did I get from the Karka event…….. A useless exotic that I salvaged, a box that you can get for less than an hour of your time, and a handful of minis (which I admit are worth quite a bit now).
I’ll take this event over the Karka event hands down, bar none.
Have fun with your useless trinket and 20-slot box…. Oh wait, you uninstalled. kbai.
Have you been around?
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Ancient_Karka_Shell
Looks like celestial gear to me, which seems pretty popular. You are mixing up the LS with the live event.
And back in the days, a 20 slot box was only available through crafting. God forbid, that 16 montes later, something is more common…
Put things in context, noone would have salvaged exotics they could sell, only if they were soulbound or had divinity runes, otherwise it was a stupid move.
I smell a made up story in the quoted text.
Fair enough; I was thinking about the apothecary rings and crap that dropped from mobs. Yes, I salvaged them, because they were pretty worthless. I still don’t use celestial gear so that shell thing is stashed around somewhere gathering dust.
And uh… Have YOU been around? FoTM was added during or around when Lost Shores was released… So….. Yeah.. 16 months is a bit of an exaggeration. Those boxes have been around for quite a while now.
Didn’t you uninstall? What are you still going on about?
Southsun Cove and fractals opened with the same patch (November 2012). So the box from the event was a novelty, as Fractals have just opened, and everything was still new.
Actually I am on the forum because I have the time to do so, and they are way more entertaining than the game itself.
Now that I have deleted the game from my hard drive, I have even more time to enjoy the group content here.

Trait setup is off, so is weapon choice and runes. Balancing patch dead ahead, no need to make a “final” PvE build now.
Go with one of the dungeon guides, all melee, all zerker, all damage.
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
I just got the meta, and no reward chest. Not sure if getting it by the daily vista viewing in LA was my ‘fault’, but that’s what did it. Nice quality. Love grinding a meta to get scammed by Anet.
Be happy, you only missed the rage of opening the chest and getting crap.
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
In a situation where you can’t score critical hits, I genuinely do not see a downside to being able to deal the exact same amount of damage whilst also having a significant increase to both your armor rating and health pool.
If it’s useless it means it’s useless and you shouldn’t have to use it. So is it useless or not? Because I’m constantly reading that defensive stats are useless. Was it always a hyperbole? I don’t like using hyperboles in serious discussions.
But if you want a significant increase in both your armor rating and your health pool, you simply play a warrior instead of any other class in zerker gear.

The average score so far seems to be 6.
If a game got 60/100 on metacritic it would be seen as quite the failure, I would not consider this a good result for Arena Net.
You know, they will tell you, that the people that actually like the game are playing it and all whiners are on the forum.
Then you go online, and the whole LA chat is full of rage. GG.

All the content that GW2 released with was designed for solo/small group play.
Never been to Orr, I see.
I have been to Orr, right after release. Before they nerfed the best place in this game to ultra casuality.
You needed a small group for the group content. 5 people knowing what they were doing could open all tempels. Maybe 10 for opening Arah. But not 150 people to succeed the event.
So what are you talking about?

All the content that GW2 released with was designed for solo/small group play. This was scaled up if more people were around.
The game design has changed to be all about huge zergs and groups of 50+ players which can not be scaled down properly.
The original design philosophy collided with the new one, creating a singularity of inconsistencies we see as actual gameplay.

Most servers easily have the population needed. Hell, ALL servers do easily.
It’s simply called “Most of the population isn’t in LA” Where are they? dungeons, WvW, scattered across the world of Tyria doing hearts and exploring, fractals? Who knows.
What does that tell us about the LS?

No doubt those servers have more than 150 players.
But what is the point in designing content for 150 players if you can not even find enough for a temporary live event in one single zone (no other story events going on elsewhere).
If not even 150 players are interested in the LS on a server, than one of two things is wrong.
1. Server population is not healthy enough for these events
2. The event is so bad, noone wants to do it
Maybe it is both though.

If servers do not have enough players to get 150 people together at LA for the living story event, the great final, something is seriously wrong.
Why is ANet so resilient to the idea of server merges. The population of those servers must be abysmal.
Because they know the exact numbers and you don’t.
And from what I experienced ingame, they really do not want to share those numbers ever.

The reason why I deinstalled the game yesterday is, that I for one think the design direction that this game is going is too stupid for me to continue anymore.
Well, your loss. Or gain.
Thanks for playing, see you again sometime.
Might happen if you play some other games too. See you there.
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
Yeah, so what we need as reward is another helmet skin, as we get them so rarely, and a crafting component you can not place under crafting components and will clutter your inventory.
This game is not rewarding you for playing. It tells you, hey you just played the content, here some crap. Now play this content over and over again to have a chance to get stuff, maybe, if the RNG gods love you.
Than the content is buggy as hell and you actually have to be lucky to have 150 more people around that do things right, or you are messed up. Mind you, random people on an overflow server.

Exotic loot was the best available loot back at southsun.
You got BiS items as reward for the event. And a 20 slot box, that is still BiS till today.
Exotic gear boxes have a slim “chance” to drop exotic gear probably less than one in a hundred, I do not know how you can compare this to a warrented exotic drop.
And a lesser vision crystal, wow, that is really close to a piece of ascended gear…

No MMO with a sub would ever let a mess like this go live. They would lose customers.
The fact, that ANet released this abomination of a patch shows, that they do not play in the same league as successful AAA titels.
This is just another F2P game, that thinks its customers will accept anything because it is for “free” anyway.
“You get it for free, be happy you get something!” And some people even repeat this mindless mantra on the forums…

I don’t know. My wife is a casual player, I am sort of a dedicated player if I like what I see.
My wife stopped playing some monthes ago, a bit above level 50 (her second try to get into the game). She lost interest because the leveling was boring as there was no story involved, just random quests here and there (hearts and DE), the story instances were to far apart from each other to entertain.
I showed her the labyrinth and she told me, she would rather cut her eyes out before she would run in circles mindlessly zerging down stuff.
I played through most of the stuff, and didn’t even like it too much. Mind you, I stopped investing any money in this game long before, as this seemed to be an appropriate gesture to show my displeasment.
Still I was here for the whole mess of the LS.
Casuals stop playing and never look back. Dedicated players invest time and are way more bound to what they have created.
I fear with all the releases this year, the casuals will flock to the new attractions, and the dedicated players will do so too. Sounds like a bright future.

There is one simple fact:
Every cent spent on ESO, and be it just the box price, will be a missed opportunity for ANet to make some cash.
