I guess I have high expectations. We were active in GW1 for about 7 years — all the way up until the release of this game, and anet managed to keep things fresh enough, yet without totally turning off the ‘hardcore’ crowd to keep people interested and active in the game for that long.

1 1/2 years into GW2 and I am already wondering if this is the best long-term solution for my guild. I was fine until this whole megaserver thing came about.

Personally I never saw anything wrong with having some zones be somewhat empty. It makes the game feel larger, rather than, say, a crowded shopping mall where everyone is always trying to push their way in to the best stores.

Before megaservers, even some of the low-pop servers were still able to complete large-scale events because they organized properly. If we are going to constantly cater to the lowest common denominator here then you are gong to be left with nothing but people who want everything handed to them on a silver platter.

I don’t think they even care. Every single thread about megaservers has reached many hundreds of posts with people voicing multiple concerns, and they are just going full steam ahead with the plan anyway.

MegaServer is by far the dumbest kittening thing that you have ever done anet. I’ve been a long time fan, and supporter, but you are making it really hard for me to try and run a guild in your game.

I feel like all community feedback is being ignored and you are just pushing forward with something that YOU decided is best for everyone, even though clearly it is not.

1) Have you explicitly taken a poll of players and come to the conclusion that this is what they want? I would like to see your data on this.

2) No idea what you really mean here. Communities rally around the server flag. It is a natural fact that not everyone plays nice together. Servers allow people to self-segregate in a way that is meaningful and agreeable to most.

3)At this point, I wouldn’t put much faith into what anet states they wished they had done. They have already made a royal mess out of most things when it comes to servers and WvW. I’m really not one to complain, but when they make it extraordinarily difficult to run a guild, or a community of like-minded guilds in their game, then it is irritating to say the least.

4) That is great for them financially, but not so great for the long-run prospect of the game if they alienate their player base for the sake of being cost-effective.

1) There really isn’t anything all that wrong with having low population on some maps (so long as there aren’t critical world events occurring there)

2) Any game that has ‘servers’ segregates the player base. Suddenly we are coming full circle and undoing all of that. The new system punishes those people who have taken the effort to create their own independent player communities and rewards those who have done nothing.

3) The system that anet created (free transfers for kitten ed near forever, then paid transfers with very little penalty) created this system. It is a mistake to underestimate the WvW community. All of the major server moves in this game have been based upon WvW. You need healthy WvW to have a healthy PvE community. Basically the first have of GW2 was (well, if you don’t transfer to a higher tier server then you are going to miss out). Now the direction is (all you higher tier people had your fun, now we are going to break up communities entirely just for the sake of correcting our earlier mistake)

4) Not entirely sure what you even mean by this, but I am pretty sure that anet is doing pretty well in the black and if they wanted to make a game just for the love of the game and cared about doing the right thing then they could.

Missions are a total pain in the kitten post-Megaserver. One of our usual mission nights is Saturday night at reset, which is a common time for many guilds. The ultra-condensation of players means that everyone is trying to do missions on the same map at the same time.

Either we are getting people stuck in alternate maps or else we are screwing other guilds over, or else getting screwed over by other guilds that are starting the same missions.

April in ESP means it is time for Platypusapalooza — our big yearly Spring event that we host, complete with contests and prizes.

We are also currently heavily active in tPvP and WvW, as well as all our usual weekly activities such as dungeons and guild missions.

We continue to be open to new players, especially from EU and Oceania, who enjoy all aspects of the game and wish to join in on a special sort of guild experience.

Megaservers have been nothing but a tremendous source of irritation so far. For one, they break up player communities: this has already been stated in numerous other posts so I won’t bother to list all the details here. Suffice to say, that communities are the strength of your player base. If you sever those then you shouldn’t be surprised if you start to see a drop-off in players.

Secondly, they are a huge irritation for guilds. During guild missions we are ending up with players on different servers and even bounties spawning on different servers . . . Why can’t we all just be on Tarnished Coast, like we are supposed to be, so we can work together? How are guild supposed to be able to organize any large-scale events together if the server system sends people all over the place?

Explain to me how any of this is a positive improvement for the game.

Try guesting to another server while doing guild missions. I honestly think Tarnished Coast PvE population is just too large for the soft caps causing the equivalent of overflows.

I also think it would be helpful for the developers if people that are experiencing routing issues give what server they have selected (Home Server or if they are guesting what server they are guesting on.) As well as what other criteria you think is met with the blog post.

We never once had this problem prior to the roll-out of megaservers, and we have been on Tarnished Coast for over 1 1/2 years now. We stationed our entire guild on TC for a reason — so we could perform large-scale events together (more than just WvW). The system isn’t working if we have to wait and ferry people over to the correct map just so we can proceed with our events.

in WvW

Karuna.1357

Anet opened a huge bag of worms when they allowed free transfers to last for so long after release, and then continued to allow paid transfers up until this very day. The cost to transfer really isn’t a deterrent to people who play this game for WvW and seek a competitive edge — or who perhaps simply just want a more active battle ground to play on.

What they should have done was cap the servers faster and let them all gradually fill up to roughly equivalent populations.

However, at this point, there really isn’t any way to undo what has been done (short of a full server reshuffle, which will never happen). You can’t really make any huge modifications without killing the server-vs-server competitive spirit that is the driving force behind why many people enjoy playing this game or else breaking apart some of the legit communities of players who have put a lot of work (and money in some cases) into banding together with the common goal of working out WvW strategy together.

If you take away server identity, and mess with the cohesion of the server communities that have worked hard together to improve themselves, and make all progress and past records meaningless . . well . . . you are going to see a huge number of WvW guilds signing off and looking elsewhere for competition.

Tarnished Coast could most certainly use a guild like yours. We are facing the prospect of having to amp up our game, and if we had another quality guild join our server it would go a long ways towards tempering our strength.

Just a few quick points on what you can expect from TC:

  • Highly competitive play - we fight the best of the best and never back down from a fight.
  • Excellent player community - maybe the best in the game. TC has always been known as the place where community matters.
  • Stable and organized - we have had a lot of the same guilds and players since the beginning. TC has never experienced any dramatic drop nor jump in rating — we have simply fought our way to the top the tough and honest way.
  • Democratic war council - there isn’t any one guild or group that runs the show. Every guild, no matter how big or small, and no matter how long they have been on the server, has an equal say at WvW reset meetings. We take the time to work with everyone who wants to be a part of the process.

I believe at least one other rep from TC has already been in touch with you guys, but just so you know, I am here and willing to chat as well if you would like more details and/or people to take part in a meeting.

I would say that every T1 – T2 server has a little bit to offer every style of WvW player. This is no different on TC. We have guilds that run roaming and havoc, we have some guilds that prefer to focus on defense, and some that prefer running skill/zerg busting groups. We have our commanders that are great at leading militia and others who prefer running as smaller guild groups.

We make it all work through communication.

Both TC and BG offer solid communities and a lot of great players and guilds. The main difference would be we don’t have much in the way of queues on TC, so there is still a lot of room for more WvW players to come join in on the action with us.

There is also the fact that Blackgate is full currently.

Web site: Everlasting Sacred Path [ESP]

Active Since 2005 * International Player Base * A True PvX Guild * 18+ Age Requirement * Tarnished Coast Influence

Note, we are a large PvX guild that is active in WvW as well as all other aspects of the game. We have an active WvW player base, but not all of our members participate.

Currently we are looking to expand our WvW activities and seek players of all nationalities and time zones.

  • We generally field between 25 and 35 players on reset nights. We also run together Monday and Thursday evenings (NA prime) and former smaller havoc squads during other times of the day.
  • Our guild is international, with most members being from either the NA, EU, or Oceanic region. We would greatly like include more of our EU and Oceanic/SEA player base in Wuv and begin setting more raid times for these time zones.
  • We aren’t really concerned with skill level so long as our members are willing to learn and work well as part of a team. We are more than happy to train the right people.
  • We run balanced team compositions and give equal focus to PPT and open field combat.
  • The general guild atmosphere is very relaxed and easy-going. We like to have fun and laugh at our own stupid jokes and aren’t going to yell at anyone for making a mistake. At the same time, we play with the goal of excelling at what we do and work towards achieving that together.

Interested parties should swing by the ESP Web Site and make a post regarding your interest in joining. You can also contact me or any of our guild members and we will be happy to chat with you.

Best regards, and see you out on the field of battle,

If you are looking for a dedicated WvW guild with a large presence some good options would be [STUN], [CERN], [NAGA], and [PiNK] just to name a few.

You can find more details on these guilds, plus lots of other great TC guilds at http://forthetoast.com/index.php?/forum/11-toasty-guilds/

So you can have a look and see which one might be the best fit for you. You are also welcome to contact me if you have any questions about where to find all the action on TC and how to get involved.

I’ll just second what Bane said. All the information is dead-on accurate.

Feel free to use me as a point of contact also if you would like further details.

Tarnished Coast is the one server with the attitude, talent, population, and stability to be the 4th T1 server. All we would need for that to happen is some more EU/Oceanic/SEA coverage.

Not necessarily saying that is what we are aiming for, but it is something to think about.
