Ugh I can’t seem to get the video to load, is there a transcript somewhere? :/
Can the explorable modes be completed back to back? SideQ: can fractals? E.g. no lockout timers.
Dungeons have three (Arah has more) explorable modes you can do each day for a guaranteed 60 tokens each path. More tokens if you kill some of the mini bosses who drop bags of wondrous goods which give three tokens. So if you do all three exp paths of AC you can get 180 tokens a day. If you run the same path of a dung more than once a day you get 20 tokens instead of 60.
Story modes and dungeon explore mode (where you actually get the tokens needed to buy gear) are pretty different creatures. Most exp modes you can skip or speed thru a lot of content.
if I miss a dodge I can cure agony instantly between torch and cure condition on heal, and do high lvl fractals with no agony resistance. Those traits seem to cure ouchiest condition first which is definately agony lol
…just that agony can’t be removed/cured with any condition removal.
Seems to remove with both traits. Did a high lvl fractal once with a different build that didn’t have the removal and agony kicked my kitten up one side and down the other.
Don’t think the blocks do damage unless they block, if you use the blind or daze that’s the effect you get with no damage.
Technically you only have ranged on one set since although swordsman can be cast from range he is a melee attack
Gaia, I also use a lot of stealth or avoiding the enemy while my phantasmagoric whittle away at them, scepter 3 and the double block will hurt them if they try to push me, then As their hp is dropping I switch to sword/torch, drop image, hit 4, then 3, swap and blurred frenzy in their face. As its finishing the blast goes off and they get burned and image just hit them with confusion. Anything they do to either hit me or heal is gonna hit them with confusion, most will panic and do one or the other and finish themselves off if they aren’t already downed.
Part of the reason for combining the weapons that way is to have a leap finisher on both sets. If you run swords both on the same set that puts both your leaps on the same set and your other set with the awkward blast finisher that doesn’t happen till you come out of stealth. This setup also needs no weapon cd traits to work well, the weapon cd work really well the way they are and you will be swapping sets pretty often. This is actually dank’s build with some modifications.
I’ve generally been running 0/20/20/25/5, sword/torch, scepter/sword. Taking de and phant fury, 3% less damage, mirrored anguish, cure cond on heal, and then I vary between glamour recharge and compounding celerity. If I’m running with a guild group I will usually use portal and then either veil or null field, and then third utility blink which normally never leaves my bar. If I’m running solo in wvw I might use phant defender. I’ve not really found the 20% hp for phant trait to be very useful, it doesn’t really seem to add enough to make much difference in wvw, it might be better in pve.
Alternatively I’ll go 20/20/0/25/5 taking 15% damage and torch trait. Conditions can’t touch me lol.
Wait, you use torch in a phantasm focused build for pve?
Traited torch cures conditions, if I miss a dodge I can cure agony instantly between torch and cure condition on heal, and do high lvl fractals with no agony resistance. Those traits seem to cure ouchiest condition first which is definately agony lol

I haven’t actually used it in wvw at all, because its just so inferior to my tank build in the vast majority of fights you’ll find yourself in in wvw. I’ve only run it in sPvP just as a bit of a proof of concept build, using the zerker amulet, runes of air, a crit stacking sigil, and I can’t actually remember the other ones. Maybe sigil of air on a few of them.
Yeah, a phantasm setup isn’t as versatile in a lot of ways. I like running phantasm a lot when I’m picking off yaks and roaming with a small guild group. It also works really well in most dungeons and fractals, pve in general.
I use scepter in one build only: a pure phantasm based power build. This is because having 2 offhands is essential, and due to the phantasm focus of the build, the scepter autoattack doesn’t matter.
I use scepter/sword and sword/pistol going 10.30.0.25.5, taking illusion damage in domination, phantasm fury, sword, and pistol cooldowns, condition removal on heal and increased phantasm hp.
This build basically runs around in circles casting phantasms on a target, using the 2 blocks and blurred frenzy as defensive skills that happen to hit hard. It is a really really powerful 1v1/small fight build, but really starts to suck in any larger fight (wvw) due to phantasms dying really fast.
I run something similar for small fight roaming, and I agree it sadly sucks in big fights. What gear are you using in you setup? I generally run my knights set because it has rune of the centaur to make up for not using a focus lol
That’s really cool! Looking forward to listening in.
The Mesmer community has been amazing so far.
That’s cause mesmers are amazing, yeah ;D
Also, theres people like me who are currently at work, pretending to be.. er.. working.
This was my problem also :O
Well said coronbale. Some people just don’t come to wvw with the right attitude, too many think ticking the highest and winning is the most important thing and it’s not at all. If people just enjoyed the time they played and played to the best of their ability, ignored the score, they’d have way more fun.
With wvw being such a 24/7 thing one person’s or guild’s work most of the time doesn’t effect the score outcome much which I think can really contribute to people’s emo crud over the score and tz coverage. Depending on anet’s wvw update some of the rewards system in it may relieve some of that, giving people a feeling of accomplishment individually or as a guild outside of winning or losing a match. I know for me coming from another game where what I brought to a group had a huge impact on our success or failure it has been a struggle for me to adapt to this different game mode where frankly I’m a drop of water in a big ocean and what I do as an individual for the most part means diddly squat.
Depends partly on the makeup of the rest of your team.
I’ll second Karmasutra’s suggestions and add Flimpy to that list.
Uhm, nice vid for people who are clueless, but the rest of us who know how to play Mesmer would rather just see you list your traits. I skimmed around thru your 13 min long “intro and traits video” and still have no idea your traits and I’m sorry but I’m not going to sit around and listen to the whole 13 minutes of you talking to try and figure them out.
I enjoyed the live stream, thanks for putting it up
Mesmer is great fun in wvw, check out the build/guide list to see the variety of builds and play styles available to Mesmer. I never get bored switching around my build/gear. Most of them are wvw builds. I’m not sure what’s going on with the greatsword, there’s been a lot of posts on here lately saying its bugged since last patch, I don’t use one so I have no idea really. Assuming whatever is going on right now is resolved then yes it’s a viable weapon. What stat gear all depends on build and role you want to play.
You can also combo it thru veil. So stealth to break target and then either leap or phase retreat thru it as stealth ends for chaos armor. Or since you aren’t using prismatic understanding it’s also pretty easy to get two stealth from it.
Did someone say “crazy japanese schoolgirl with a chainsaw and a schyte”?
Lol, doesn’t look Japanese or anything like a schoolgirl. More like a really bad cosplay. Check out those muscle bound legs lmao
I’m going to second the previous poster, that build is what I usually use for a phantasm build. Alternatively I’ll use 0/20/20/25/5 picking up some more defensive traits in chaos, usually 3% reduced damage, and the trait that i think is called mirrored anguish.
Me too :/
And remember, the BLAST needs to come when you ENTER stealth, not when you come out of it.
Uhm, dude, it used to be a blast finisher when you entered it and came out of it lol not just one or the other.
Is wpvp some new term for wvw?
This guy is crazy if he thinks torch and off hand sword are bad lmao
I decided to forgo the breezy skirts and skin-tight pants for a more macho look. Then while mix-and-matching armor pieces I came across an outfit the looked familiar. SABIN from FF6! So I colored it and see how close I can get it to the original. If I can do a hundred-illusion punches that would make my day.
P.S. He has a nice looking butt.
You need to bleach his hair.
OP What confusion build do you refer to ? Glamour or something else ?
He says his build is based off of kylia’s, which is a glamour build. He also says that he starts by dropping two glamours and summoning clones. So, glamour build.
Glamours are definately not going to be the easiest to take camps with. It’s one of the main things I didn’t like about glamour Mesmer and quickly switched to other builds. I mostly run solo in wvw unless my guild has something specific for me to do so a build that can kill yaks and take camps effectively is what I run. There are a number of builds, including condition damage ones, that can do this.
Yeah options for cool looking torches are kinda limited but some are kinda nice. http://argos-soft.net/GW2WeaponGallery/index.php?itemType=14
You’re doing a great job organizing the list.
Was a great patch IMO, yeah there are a few little bugs but nothing huge and all stuff that should be easily fixable.
Mesmer was my first char and although a little difficult at first once I got the hang of the whole shattering thing and understood the differences between clones and phantasms it got way easier. Starting out I found staff, great sword, and scepter to be the best weapons to keep some range between your squishy self and mobs.
I kinda thought so too but I’m not sure. It was under discussion in the wvw forum and that was what they were saying it applied to, there was apparently some technique with enough retaliation on a group of people to kill a buffed supervisor faster tho I’d never really heard of that myself. We’d always just stacked vulnerability on it.
As I understand it’s in relation to things in pve or camp supervisors in wvw, when they hit more than five people who have retaliation they will only take retaliation damage from five people rather than 25 which it was previously. I’m thinking there must be certain aoe effects that still hit more than five people (some of the world bosses for instance, jormag etc) so this is bringing more areas of the game under the five people limit. The only thing I can figure this doing is making some pve monsters take way longer to kill. It shouldn’t affect any pvp builds, like the immortal Mesmer, in any way.
Siege hasn’t taken retaliation damage for a while
Mesmers are the new theif. Permastealth ftw
I’ve been enjoying leveling an engineer. I have a bunch of low lvl chars but it’s been hard to stick with any since the Mesmer has been such a fun class but I’m really getting into engi
I like it also, looks like the play style I’ve been leaning toward where I shatter less than I used to. I like Pyro’s suggestions as well. Here’s what I’m running at the moment, which is similar to his suggestions: http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fgEQRArf8dlwzaqXUTmGbNJyZGQ3yhWAJFq2rVSBudhA;TcAA1UGZMSYk1InRSjA
Yes I really have that much condition removal, just add lemongrass poultry soup and kitten in the face of angry mobs from enemy servers as they try to catch you in wvw. I really love the torch and focus as off hands because of all the great combos you can do with them with team mate’s fields not to mention the sword/focus retaliation. Can also switch out some utilities, I usually replace decoy, for other options on creating your own combo fields. I use full soldiers armor/runes of melandru and most of my weapons are soldiers as well. My accessories are a mix of knights with valkyrie jewels and a berserker amulet. With a bit of trait switching this build is very versatile for a variety of purposes.
to the top with you!
What?
Scepter/sword, sword/torch, heck with two handed weapons. Well, at least for some things x)
Actually sounds like fun
I rather agree, which is why I’ve ditched my rabid set and am making a carrion to try it. Everyone said rabid was the greatest but I was rather disappointed in it.
Decimus, dodge clone creation and other clone creation methods don’t overwrite phantasms unless you have three phantasms out and I can’t imagine getting three out very often since dungeon mobs will mostly one shot them.
Bart means in inspiration for the 15% phant trait not dueling. And yes overall I agree with his assessment of the build
Oh, and Easy, it’s an interesting idea but is it worth giving up illusory persona?
No cuz link is broke! :P
No it isn’t, select the text and copy paste. Just clicking or right clicking copy link doesn’t work because of anet’s silly forum.
