I’m looking for a build for FOTM and WVW, however do not want cond / conf or get very bursting clones show me what?
This build isn’t good for fractals lol
Wait sorry just to be clear you use this exact build for sPVP and tPVP also? And it works out completely fine?
I used it for tpvp when my guild was doing that for the monthly. I’m not a regular pvper, preferring to stick to wvw, so I picked out a tanky build to try it with. It worked well enough once I remembered how to play it haha I haven’t used the build in wvw for quite a while, tho I don’t think it worked as well as it does in wvw.
But phantasm builds are awesome
But the people taking this seriously are so funny!
Freedan, clones don’t do damage, so it’s not going to help them any lol If you’re wanting to do a supportive boon build check out Chaos Archangel’s build. If you’re wanting to do a more all around build that can dps and be supportive thru phantasms, focus, utilities try out Pyroatheist’s Supportive Phantasm build.
Awesome thread, lolz at the first two replies. Xavi nab you should know better!
This is a pretty accurate summation of what I experience in WvW as well. No one is interested in fair 1v1 fighting. It’s all about some other unfathomable goals that don’t really get you anywhere.
1v1s don’t win WvW. It’s those goals you don’t understand, the ones called taking and holding structures, that win WvW.
To the original poster: Some commanders suck kitten The only requirement to become a commander is to have 100 gold. There’s no quality assurance in there anywhere. Try finding your server’s community website and voice comm, trust me, it’ll improve you’re WvW experience tremendously. Trying to guess what’s going on when you don’t understand WvW tactics or goals is a slow painful process, much better to listen to the other players on mumble/ts :P Killing other players in WvW doesn’t give your server points toward winning, capturing and holding points does, so while killing people can be fun that’s only a small part of it and not the end goal.
You also have to understand, pretty much every server has times of the day when they don’t have coverage and they’re going to be outnumbered. Perhaps you were trying to play during your server’s lacking hours. Who knows.
You might say what server you’re from and chances are there’s people on this forum from your server who can help you understand the game play and have a better experience.
I dont understand why people are making assumptions where the confusion came from. I have already stated it didnt come from chaos amor nor winds of chaos. It came from the shatter…
The shatter that doesn’t show up on the recap, mhm. Do you even know what a glamour field is and how it works?
I prefer it as an ethereal field
Dwayna runes on what build? The one you listed the traits for a couple posts above or the ‘power build’ you referenced in your last post?
Confusion is good in any build, confusion doesn’t kill people unless they’re stupid, it does however allow you to control a fight and add extra damage if someone tries to burst you while under confusion.
I don’t really do sPvP mainly stick to WvW and pve. Maybe something like this would work better, ditch the whole condition damage thing: http://gw2buildcraft.com/calculator/mesmer/?4.0|6.1p.h14|c.1p.h19.a.1p.h1h|1n.73.1n.73.1n.73.1n.73.1n.73.1n.73|4s.0.2v.0.3v.0.21k.0.31k.0.3v.0|0.k4a.0.u34c.k61|39.7|31.35.34.3d.0|e
I already have pretty much all of that gear minus some of the ascended trinkets, I’ll try it out when I get home tonight x)
I spent an evening back when you first posted the build playing around with it in wvw. I used staff, sword/focus, rabid armor w/runes of lyssa. So not exactly the same setup as you. My main problem with it I felt like I was doing very little damage, the shatters didn’t hit very hard, not enough condition damage for confusion to hurt much. It didn’t feel very effective against players. What it was really good at was soloing camps, just run around to get all the npc in one spot and then whittle away their hp. I like the general idea of the build but think it could use some tweaking. I’ll try and sit dowkittenome point and come up with some suggestions
Be nice, people e_e
Oh well, there’s bound to be some wvw focused guilds on your server. Maybe try asking in map chat on the various BL and EBG to kinda see what’s what.
First, find an organized group on your server, you’ll have way more fun. Most servers have a server website and a public team speak or mumble. For instance, the YB website is yaksbend.com and our mumble is linked from that site. Your server’s website should give you the tools to find a group to work with. Things like portal bombs, veil, don’t work except with an organized force. Running with a group is the only way to lvl in wvw since its going to be your best bet for taking objectives and therefore getting xp. If you don’t want to coordinate with people just follow the Zerg and don’t worry about your utilities other than whatever helps you stay alive.
But Pyro that requires maths and maths are hard
I vote just go kill people and whichever one makes you feel more successful = better. Or that’s my ever so scientific method anyway lol
The others have covered it pretty well, just thought if pop in and say I love underwater combat as a Mesmer, trident clones are awesome especially if you run condition. I have a couple totally random weapons, my trident is exotic but it’s main stat is like healing or something, my spear is just a rare but I still do really well underwater. I generally run feedback, decoy, arcane thievery.
In a group setting yeah, 15% more damage probably is better than mirror of anguish with its 90 sec cd but for scouting or solo roaming it’s pretty handy as it negates anyone’s first cc on you. Pretty entertaining when someone runs in and tries to knock you down and they find themself on the ground as well lol
As far as my pvp phantasm build, yes I have one, yes its grossly overpowered, and I might make a build guide for it. The traits are 10/30/0/25/5 with blade training, phantasmal fury, dodge on clone/duelists discipline. Mender’s purity and increased phantasm hp. In spvp, I use the zerker jewel. In wvw, I use the same setup as here with zerker armor and accessories but pvt weapons. The weapons are scepter/sword and sword/pistol. Utilities are blink+decoy and signet of illusions or null field for more team situations.
The playstyle is very very simple. Spawn phantasms, and let them kill your target. If you’re feeling perky, use blurred frenzy as an attack. I normally just run around them in circles cycling blurred frenzy and the 2 blocks to avoid getting hit at all, and maybe I’ll dodge once or twice. I have yet to find a counter to this build. It will eat through the bunkerest bunkers, it will rip apart glass cannons, thieves can’t hide from phantasms and can’t stealth attack through blocks and blurred frenzy, the phantasms are pretty beefy and tough to kill…
The downside is that it is very weak in anything larger than a 2v2ish situation. The phantasms will get killed by stray aoes when you get into group fights. The reason I have hesitated making a build guide for it is that it is almost 100% useless in any wvw situation other than scraping people on the floor in duels, and I really don’t do very much s/tPvP.
Pryo’s pvp phantasm build is fun for roaming wvw, it does a lot of damage, as long as you don’t run into groups cuz they’ll kick your kitten haha. For a phantasm build in wvw I usually run 0/20/20/25/5 with scepter/sword and either sword/torch or sword/pistol. The dueling traits are obvious tho sometimes I’ll swap out fury for far reaching. In chaos take 3% reduced damage an mirror of anguish. In inspiration get condi cleanse on heal and either hp for phant or move faster for each illusion. If I’m running in a small teamset sometimes I’ll choose glamour recharge for portal and veil. Utilities are situational and change depending on what I’m doing. I use cavalier trinkets and a mix of knights/Valkyrie armor and weapons, centaur runes. You won’t do the damage of Pyro’s pvp build but your survivability is upped tremendously.
Yeah Pyro likes to talk hahaha
To the op there is a pretty decent gs glamour build but it drops the 20 in inspiration and puts the points in dueling, uses carrion armor. It’s pretty much great for running with a zerg and tagging all the enemy players, you’ll get tons of bags, and be helpful in that you’ll have combo fields up and a little added damage from confusion tho you won’t have very high condition damage. Its no good solo wvw because you’re not strong enough in any direction to kill anyone cept maybe a noob or two. It would probably be your best bet for an easy way to switch between a pve/wvw build without switching gear, just change a couple traits and utilities and it turns into a shatter build for pve. Check the guide list stickies at the top of the page for playandchill’s guide.
If you can get a target behind a wall or something, you’ll be able to drop it anywhere within 1200 range.
This ^^
I think the confusion duration used to be a little longer? I didn’t play beta, just going off what I’ve heard lol
I like feedback the way it is, I can put it all sorts of places as long as I can get a target
Chaos, what he was referring to was in beta the prestige was not channeled and then they ‘broke’ it by making it channeled and only recently reverted it to how it originally was for the most part but it’s still kinda broken with the goofed up way the blast finisher works/doesn’t work. x)
Four sets of armor, 14 weapons xD
GREAT job guys! You all covered a lot of the basics and were entertaining to boot xD
I find this “bug” to be very entertaining actually. There was one night last week where we were fighting DB and I was playing glamour, pretty sure there was a necro over there that knew about this because I wound up in the middle of their zerg I dunno how many times, was funny xD
Who is this guild with seven immortal mesmers? Lol
Turimbar, I can’t imagine there’s that many mesmers you’re seeing running this specific build, I think more likely you’re just seeing a lot of mesmers in general because they’re a good wvw class. Not sure what makes you think they’re all this build, the -condition food? I use that 95% of my wvw time and I very rarely use this build, in fact it’s probably been over a month since I’ve run it in wvw, the food is really good for most everyone.
not sure who’s the dude who proved me stuff and such so yeaaah.
How about all the people who have posted vids and guides for a big variety of builds, showing them quite effective despite all your claims that shatter is the only good build.
This is the most unbalance match ever.
Talk about just having fun. If I have to play defense for yet another week. My sanity level will probably drop below zero.
http://mos.millenium.org/matchups#NA
lolwut? For the most part this really hasn’t been a bad match up, yeah SoS kinda fizzled out after their first week in T3, but it’s not been that bad at least during the times when I play there are some really good SoS teams out there. Looking at the score right now SoS is holding their own, looks like a lot of people hopped back into wvw after the last patch. Hang in there! lol
I like this idea.
Taku?! From Forever? Or some other Taku? >_>
Wtf I did not use the word “kitten” in my post. Let me be on record that I hate these forums using that word as a verb for nerf, decrease, or lower. /annoyed
I find it pretty funny lol
There are so many variables in wvw and you never know what you’re going to be up against you can’t always have the right equipment/utilities/traits, that being said you just have to pick out what works for you for the role you want to play. Some builds have a lot of defensive and escape capabilities, some don’t. You just have to realize there will always be someone who can and will kill you.
I have a bad habit of forgetting when I switch to glamour for zerg vs zerg to keep my stupid self in the back of my own team and pew pew from a distance, I’m so used to being front line, hopping in the middle of and thru the other side of the enemy, that it’s a hard habit to break. Glamour generally has no stun break or escape utility, once I’m caught I’m down lol but when you’re fighting with a team glamour is great group support for controlling the enemy group and splitting their zergball apart.
Most of the time BS works as a smaller team set and I’m usually running a phantasm or confusion build depending on my mood. Either of the builds I run are pretty flexible and I’m often switching utilities or traits for various situations.
My suggestion is dabble around in wvw some more and try out different builds and see what you like. Find commanders or guilds that you like running with. If your server has a community mumble get on it and get to know people. You’ll at some point fall into a group of people you like playing with and chances are your build setup will change as you figure out what works best for your group.
There’s only shatter. If you run anything else to be ‘different’ you’re doing it wrong. Running anything but shatter heavy builds is like playing with one hand and not playing as much as you would with both hands. If you don’t shatter you 1) deal pathetic aoe damage, 2) don’t apply aoe confusion (which isn’t amazing in pve but still free damage), 3) don’t build any Might stack to deal EVEN more damage with everything… Fail if you focus on phantasm crap or anything else.
Actually your narrow mindedness is pretty fail imo, but then the only time you post on forum is to hate on something whether it’s a build or a weapon, I don’t know why you even bother when everyone else has proved you wrong over and over :P
Reading up, it sounds like you’ve forgotten what one of the scepter’s strengths is, at least that I’ve noticed. It may have the lowest DPS, but it has two skills that cause confusion regularly, which is frankly quite devastating in the right hands. The way I’m playing that sounds like the things I want… illusions out the wazzoo, and confusion all over the place. A mesmer who confuses his foes in multiple ways.
I will say though, having glanced over the various trait lines the bottom two (Whatever they’re called) seemed most intriguing to me.
Scepter only has one way to cause confusion, that’s #3, unless you mean the clone creation for shattering.
Oh, I guess I should reply to the topic. I generally run a phantasm with the same point allotment as Chaos Archangel but with different traits and swap the offhand positioning. Or I’ve been running 0/25/30/0/15, staff, scepter/torch.
Edit: Oops forgot the part where I was supposed to say why. The phantasm build because it’s perfect for dungeons and works well in wvw for roaming but not so good for zergyness or siege. The confusion build because scepter/torch much funnnnn in wvw
(edited by Kazhiel.8194)
Guild Wars is the only MMO series I’ve ever seen with that I’d call a “caster rogue” in the mesmer, rather than the more traditional leather wearing stabby stabby rogue.
This is a great concept, I wish the “illusionist” concept was more popular in games.
Yeah, I love the concept also
Any build you like playing xD
But you’re only wearing one CoE piece o_O
Here is my glamour mesmer Seylinya
Which armor set is this? :o
Profane from the gem shop
It’s wvw usage is now awesome with this hitting enemies between you and target. I just pick someone on the far side, even out of range doesn’t matter, and run sideways to hit the people close to me with confusion. So fun.
Sounds like you’re lagging, either your internet or your computer sucks :P
The cannon boost looks great if you do a lot of defending, when YB is red you’ll generally find BS at Ogrewatch (Badgerwatch!) defending during NA prime time if we’re on EBG and we always start there on reset nights, there’s a couple of our guys gonna get cannon mastery.
If the ogrewatch cannons…or any cannons for that matter… aren’t dead before the zerg approaches, or they aren’t focused as soon as they approach, then the commander is not fit to command. There are really only a couple good uses for cannons, and they all occur at hills, particularly north gate defense.
People have to make it thru the massive amounts of siege we have there to get close enough to kill our cannons, besides the cannons themselves, ask tsym how many times their zerg wiped against our siege at ogre and pang during their little showing off thing they thought they were going to do coming back in wvw the other night.
@EnRohbi: Cannons man. Not catapults. That line is useless because of how useless cannons are in the vast majority of situations.
@Op: Nothing is particularly Mesmer specific. The skills are the same for Mesmer as for any other class, supply is highly desirable, siege buffs are also very good, and damage vs pve mobs is useless.

I’m getting the increased supply first, more supply is a big boost to small group tactics.
Still have no idea what you’re talking about. You want to nerf shatter because…?
