If they walk back to get out of the way then they aren’t near the edge of the wall where they can be hitting you lol
If it was possible to kill everyone you can see on a wall it would make defending pretty much impossible, you wouldn’t be able to stand on a wall at all. Also, you have to remember just because we can see something from our nifty floating camera angle doesn’t mean your char would from their point of view lol
But the other classes can still attack the top of keep walls with aoe and they aren’t one shotting everybody who is there.
Mesmer also has a few aoes that can hit the top of the wall, it doesn’t mean we should be able to throw all our illusions/attacks up there.
My advice: read the forum, your questions have already been asked and answered many times lol

Rabid which is prec/tough/cond, you can get some of the parts from the temple karma merchants in cursed shore and uh malchor’s leap is the other place I think. You have to check each one’s stats, there’s not a merchant that sells all of the same stat set, one will have legs, gloves, other will have helm. Only things you can’t get from karma are chest and boots, just look for the khilbron set on tp.
Null field is a glamour, glamour causes blind and confusion yo
Hi Ofek, mesmer is very flexible as far as weapons, you can be effective with any of them. If you wanted to run staff and GS you can do that, I did it for a long time, there’s lot of different builds you can use. GS #3 isn’t a very useful skill in pvp and you probably wouldn’t be using it much or at all, staff #5 is also a ground target aoe but one of it’s main purposes is to give you boons so having it just drop on your char’s feet if you turn to mouse target on would work fine.
As far as how the class as a whole would work for you, I have no idea. I would think moving and strafing with the on screen keyboard would be a little awkward but I don’t know. Mesmer is a very mobile class. Check out the Mesmer’s videos thread that Kylia has kindly been maintaining for us. It has videos of all different mesmer builds in action, as well as guides and play style vids, they might be able to help you get a better idea of the class as a whole: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/mesmer/Mesmer-Videos-Post-your-Video
Original poster is an unimaginative crybaby, I have no trouble coming up with tons of things to do either attacking or defending keeps/towers, the previous replies have already covered most of it. In siege I swap out offhand for focus, traits on my illusion and power tree for blinds/confusion on glamours and slot all glamour utilities. You can cast null field and feedback etc etc on walls, it’s mucho entertainment
Otherwise lately I’ve pretty much been running Osi’s fun little hybrid build but with slightly different gears, great for running around in small groups wvw and for pve/dungeons.
Fan would be awesome
I’m running Osi’s hybrid build but with little different gear than he uses (majority of my gear is rabid except my two swords, which are zerker, because I like using a more glamour build and using sword/focus if I’m running with zerg for siege in wvw). Swapped out my sigil of force on one sword for blood and put leeching on my staff, didn’t use any food buffs, and did some dungeon runs last night and that worked pretty slick. I was getting hp back often, I’ll have to do some more experimenting with it to see how well it works in wvw but so far I like it.
Tired of running the same ones for 4 years
lulz
The versatility of the Mesmer is amazing. I am constantly switching traits and weapons, going from a shatter spec to a condition damage tank to a mantra build. It’s not how you trait yourself, it’s how you play with what you have.
I’m a firm believer that any build on any class can dominate in the right hands. I hope these video’s provide a small source of entertainment for those interested. Enjoy my fellow Mesmer’s!
Well said and nice vids
Signet of inspiration, centaur runes and a focus offhand. It is more than enough to keep perma swiftness up in WvW with ether feast.
It sucks.
If you have Rune of the Centaur ditch the focus (if you’d rather use a different weapon) and use Mirror for heal lmao, it’s nearly perma swift with no focus needed.
I have no problem with movement speed and I almost never use a focus. In wvw the people in the group with aoe speed buffs should be taking turns and making sure the whole group stays together. If I’m pve or solo wvw or running with thoughtless louts I have a set of armor with Rune of the Centaur and use Mirror for heal, it means I practically have permanent swiftness since there’s only about two seconds between swiftness running out and Mirror’s cd being over. Other times I may use a focus, focus is not bad at all, it can be a very handy weapon in certain situations.
Awesome thread, thanks kylia for keeping up with this.
If you take a few minutes to browse this forum there are tons of builds posted.
I’m pretty sure that Aleph Naught is correct about the distortions being two different things and not affecting sword 2.
If you want more survivability my suggestion would be to ditch the 10 in domination, you don’t need the faster signet recharge, and put those points either in illusions to get illusory persona so you can self shatter f3 to daze or f4 for distortion whether you have clones/fants up or not. Or put those ten points in dueling for the clone on dodge skill so you can put up oodles more clones, ditch the scepter and use a staff.
Or take ten out of inspiration and get deceptive evasion AND max illusion trait line. I don’t really see traiting for focus as being very useful (doesn’t warden already reflect projectiles?). If I were you and wanting to use the gear you have I’d do this for wvw (using glamours/confusion, also notice switching the heals, mirror reflects as well as shorter cd so more boons from your runes) http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fgEQNAsdWl0zqqHVTgGb9IyJFMXzh6x1ZdVXJF82FC;TABg0yvEeJ9S9lyLqiMFJKyWkrIZRLMGWsBZGB
And then for dungeons switch the traits to this, and I’d probably swap out focus for pistol or sword: http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fgEQNAsdWl0zaqHVTgGb9IyJFQXyh6B4ldfXJF82FC;TABg0yvEeJ9S9lyLqiMFJKyWkrIZRLMGWsBZGB
Same as Lordryux, as long as I’m not lagging I almost never die in dungeons. However if I’m lagging (my internet randomly sucks, some days it’s great! other days…) I die a lot lol. I’m usually running 20/20/0/0/30 as well using either rabid armor with Runes of Undead or a mix of rampager/zerker armor with Runes of the Centaur, rabid staff, and either sword/sword zerker or sword zerker/pistol rabid. I’ve also often run 0/20/20/0/30 which is a little tankier and I also like a lot. With sword 2, being able to put out pretty much endless clones/phantasms, having either pistol stun or sword 4 block, being able to self shatter f3 and f4 it’s pretty hard to die.

No but if someone would like to donate a Twilight to me I can check it also ;D
I agree completely, the DE clone should target who you have selected not whatever random mob or inanimate object (my dumb clones where always blowing up on the scenery in Tixx…..) that happens to be nearby
You don’t have to do your story quests right away, you can always lvl and gear up and do them later. There are oodles of ways to get good xp and lvl quickly.
PvE you can’t add anything into a party that another class can’t do better other than time warp.
See, this is the wrong thinking.
If you think about it like that, then Mesmers are always useless.
The way you want to think to be useful is:
There isn’t anything that you can do that I can’t do.
Boom, suddenly, you’re at the top of the utility and a HUGE asset to all PvE groups.
I have only 1 level 80 and if I were to make another one, it would only be for more dailies.
Dailies are by account and not by char.
Troponin… you really can’t compare low lvls of anything to what they’ll be at 80…
Yeah, I am coming to realize that. What I dislike about that is the fact that you can like something at low levels, get high, then suddenly, at end game, it’s not so great. :/
That’s not really true, each class gets better as they lvl, if you liked them as a low lvl you’ll like them more later. If you didn’t like them as a low lvl chances are you’ll like them better later also lol. I was really frustrated with my mesmer for the first twenty lvls or so, and then I started getting the hang of how to play it and it only got better and better from there. Different traits really really affect game play more than a person would think, then you add in all the various stats of armor, weapons, and accessories. There’s a lot of options. At high lvl I was frustrated with my mesmer again trying to do wvw… till I sat back and read forum and found some different builds to try more suited to wvw and tadaa no more frustration.
Troponin… you really can’t compare low lvls of anything to what they’ll be at 80…
I’d go with Rabid. If you’re gonna put 20 into dueling, best choice would be to get Rabid.
Crit = more vigor = more dodges = more survivability
Crit = bleed for illusions + sigil of earthEven if you plan on shattering alot, you’ll be able to generate alot of clones simply with staff 2 (X trait on Chaos) and rolling so the precision will still help.
In regards to toughness vs vitality, I prefer toughness because it’s a better stat over long fights since heals heal for “more” when you have higher toughness (unless you’re against a pure condition build). Also, toughness has great synergy with 25 in chaos and undead runes if you plan on running those, as well as crystals since its 6% from tough and only 4% from vit…
Hope that helps. Here’s my build if you’re interested:

Hello Forum Mod, it’s all well and good you deleting my thread but the thread wouldn’t have been there to begin with if I could have found some way to report hacking but after looking all over the website the only thing I could find was this ‘game bug’ forum so there you have it.
Also, on your in game “report” function, that drop down menu really needs a “hacking” option.
It’s only Dec 24th!
Depends on what part of the world you live in I reckon
WvW !
Okay thanks .
Which build are you using Davy?
I had thought the same as Xavi, that when you did any skill it broke stealth?
Also, how does Illusionary Membrane work exactly? Does it only occur when the regeneration instance begins or what about if you had Rune of the Doylak? Or for that matter, is Rune of the Doylak constant regeneration like it looks like on the description?
The ones at grenth, arah, and uh that other place in the north part of the map
Honestly I’m not sure that I like the idea of ladders or towers, seems like they would make defending pretty hard not to mention the possibilities of a few people ninjaing a tower or keep with a ladder. Most places just don’t have the resources for people to be watching every single wall.
I don’t like the idea of Mesmer portals being unusable unless a wall/gate is down. It’s one of the ways we have of quickly taking a keep back if a mesmer can stay hidden long enough to portal people back in.
I think the options are all quite fine. I’m a woman btw and I’d be willing to bet most of the whiners in this thread are men.
Confusion works fine, doesn’t need adjusting.
that sentence would go perfectly if i was referring to pvp only. Something tells me everyone is running power/precision in pve and have no idea what i’m talking about, because if you were running a full rabid gear/toughness build and seen the amount of damage you could be dealing (try this in wvw and not on a crappy carrion build) i don’t think anyone could even disagree that confusion isn’t good in pve.
I am running a rabid gear confusion build and I think it’s fine :p
This goes back to what I was saying in that other thread, one cannot have everything, life doesn’t serve you everything you want on a silver platter.
This guy is working on a build with PU: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/mesmer/New-Prismatic-Understanding-great/first#post1026856
When I first dropped DE out of my build I couldn’t hardly stand it but I got used to it and worked around having less clone generating possibilities.
Mesmer has so many cool ways to build and play the char, love it
How is it broken? “Confusion is a condition that deals damage each time a foe uses a skill.” Majority of mobs don’t use much in the way of skills I don’t think? I’m pretty sure confusion works just the way it’s supposed to, which is against players, not mobs.
How about just not do a confusion build for pve? I’ve been running confusion build in wvw and it’s great, I also pve with it because I’m too lazy to redo traits all the time and it’s not so great but I get by. There are a ton of other builds that are great for pve. No point in boosting this one when you could quite easily just use a different trait lineup…
In other words, if they kill them self really fast you don’t have to keep it up very long lol
Confusion stacks on intensity, I don’t think duration is as useful as damage, you only need enough duration to keep it up majority of the time.
Check out this guy’s build: http://youtube.com/user/kyliad
Wads there are other ways to create confusion besides shatters. Deceptive evasion is great but not at all needed for this build. It was hard for me to get used to not having it, it’s a different play style, but I’m cool with it now.
Hi! I’ve seen you around wvw
I’m not particularly worried about making a legendary, I’m ok with not having shiny stuff when I can have other stuff with same stats. It’s a lot of effort just for some graphics effects IMO. Also karma is easy to get lol
Oh, you don’t need all khilbron. You can get some of the pieces with same stats from karma merchant in cursed shore. That should save you some monies.
Yeah I’ll be posting them here
I’ve been playing a confusion build in wvw lately and love it. I’ll send you some links and info when I get home from work, hard to do anything on a phone lol
Well this thread quickly turned into a bunch of crying… seriously people try and be a little appreciative of the work that’s been put in this game. Overall the game runs pretty smoothly and the devs are obviously working on things and are nice enough to give us updates on the forum. I guess I’m not as doom and gloom as most people seem to be here. I see all these people that either QQ mesmer is so overpowered or they QQ mesmer is so underpowered. Maybe you guys should take a step back, chill out, and try to figure out how to beat what you think is OP or try to get around what you think is underpowered? Use your brain a little? Everything in life doesn’t just get handed to you, you have to, you know, work for it now and then.
When I first started playing mesmer I felt pretty dang weak but you know what? I worked thru it, tried different gear, different builds, and I figured out what would work for me. Can I instakill everything? Hell no! What fun would that be? But I can put up a good fight and pretty often I come out on top but it takes strategy in battle to do. Mesmer is not an easy straightforward class.
