There are a few different knobs we can turn in regards to AoE some of the bigger ones being:
Radius of the AoE
Frequency of the AoE Damage
Damage of the AoE
Max Targets of the AoECurrently, some players causing the AoE are able to do more damage to one person while also controlling a portion of the field, compared to a player with single target damage.
In our balance discussions we always look at what these changes could do to PvE as well as PvP. Any changes we make will undergo a lot of testing, both internal and by our trusted alpha team. It is important to understand that we are not doing a blanket nerf to all AE’s or a dramatic adjustment of the damage AoE’s can do. There may be some cases where players can build for AoE damage, but are just not viable or other cases where AoE is clearly the dominate way to build, and as such the other builds get left on the side lines. Its these classes/builds that we are concerned about.
I think the biggest one you should be looking at is the duration of the AoEs, if anything. Sustained pressure is always going to be more worrisome than burst or control.
I really hope that you’ve put duration and sustained pressure on the radar instead of doing something that would cripple the usage of some abilities. It would be a bone-headed move to limit the number of things aoe’s could affect to a small number such as 5. I’d be embarrassed if I was responsible for that one. Yeah, I sure would hope that one never comes to pass or flows through the wire.

Only a few minutes into reset and SoR is already +400 having taken both TC and SBI garrisons >_>
I guess the transfers really boost morale.
I guess we’ll never get an opportunity to see what SBI was really like is all I’m getting out of the whole transfer thing.
It’s nothing against SoR or SBI or anything like that, I’m just disappointed that the guesting announcement came now instead of at the end of February or something. It sort of robbed us of what had the potential to be a great match-up.
Men of Science [MoS] – Tarnished Coast
Man, we’re losing people left and right. I live in the EST timezone and during my 6PM-10PM period SBI is outmanned in every single map…
Nah, we’re fine…
Picture of the week goes to Maladon for his photo titled “I’ve got this guys, don’t worry”
Why isn’t “Picture of the week” a thing that we do? Can we start doing this? Can this be a thing? Please?
Men of Science [MoS] – Tarnished Coast
I’m not sure if someone posted this before or not, but are guardians’ projectile blocking/reflecting skills (Zealot’s Defense, Shield of Absorption, Sanctuary, Wall of Reflection) intended to exclude siege projectiles?
It seems strange that the elementalist skill Swirling Winds can actually destroy siege projectiles.
So can a lot of skills (thieves come to mind with Smoke Screen, which functions very similarly to Swirling Winds except as a rectangle). Anything that reflects projectiles won’t work, but pretty much anything else should, even if it’s unreliable. It’s just super easy for Elementalists to do it compared to other professions.

Next week is going to be bad for Crystal Desert. Having to fight both FA, IoJ and DragonBrand at once.
The week after that, the new superpowered FA should be bumped up a tier and we can enjoy a good match again.
FA isn’t going to gain ~170 ranking in a single match-up, not against CD and DB. This isn’t Kaineng storming through T6-T8.
Men of Science [MoS] – Tarnished Coast
I want to come over but I have some questions first.
1. I couldn’t find you guys on the server list — did you transfer to a different game?
2. I’ve heard rumors that you guys aren’t very dedicated, and sometimes don’t even bother to show up. Is this a true statement?
Please let me know asap, my 800 member guild (Night Caps [ZZZZ]) is running out of time to make our decision.
Men of Science [MoS] – Tarnished Coast
That sucks, I hope SBI stays afloat. I like facing you guys so I’m hoping that it’s just a matter of people taking the night off more than it is transfers taking place.
Men of Science [MoS] – Tarnished Coast
No reading comprehension issues here.
…
I just don’t understand why you can’t laugh at someone when they were on your server?
Sure is, and I laughed then too. I’m laughing at a person, not a server. I fail to see what you’re trying to resist.
Are you done yet? I’m trying to ask a serious question re: what the official PvE server is. I remember Crystal Desert saying the same thing when we faced them a few weeks ago, so hearing that Isle of Janthir is the official PvE server has me lost.
This is why we need server type designations ArenaNet, it’s just easier for people to find what they need that way.
Men of Science [MoS] – Tarnished Coast
I’m actually confused by something here, as I thought that Crystal Desert was the unofficial PvE server?
Men of Science [MoS] – Tarnished Coast
Haha glorious! I’m not going to point or jeer though, I just like it when people give speeches and then run off anyway. That’s why I find the Kaineng/WarMachine situation so fun to watch.
Who needs loyalty when you’ve got loot?
Isn’t this OP on Blackgate now? Couldn’t resist..
Sure is, and I laughed then too. I’m laughing at a person, not a server. I fail to see what you’re trying to resist.
I think you mean what I’m trying to imply. I’m not resisting or implying anything, not even on/from my server. Just saying you’re not one to point or jeer and then proceeding to do almost exactly that, don’t expect that it wouldn’t get your hands dirty. I’m not allowed to have a chuckle, is that how it is?
I don’t understand. I’m not Lightdivinity, that’s a totally different person.
This topic has a guy from IoJ begging people to join his server and talking about how people can help make a difference, and then he turns around the next day and transfers his guild to a different server.
I find it hilarious because he went from being all macho and loyal to just jumping ship at the first chance he could get, and it’s going to be at the expense of the rest of his server. This guy, as commander of a prominent IoJ guild, jumped ship at the same time as something like 13 other guilds from IoJ and basically vacated the server. They literally destroyed Isle of Janthir just one day after acting like they cared. Wherever they go they’re likely to eventually do the same thing, pay transfers or not lol.
They’re disloyal and dishonorable and it sucks for the people that have to deal with the mess they’re leaving in their wake. That’s not funny to me, but this guy? He got some wind in his sails and showed his true colors with very little convincing, it’d seem.
I really honestly and truly do not understand what your point is…
Unless you have reading comprehension issues and think that I’ve transferred, because if so you’re wrong. Here I am and here I remain, living the thuggin and buggin RP life yo.

I know this is a WvW recruitment thread, but I am very curious and interested in checking out the RPing community over there. Might hop on over for a day once guesting goes live.
Good luck!
It’s very active and robust. I recommend coming on a Sunday around noon, they do this thing where you show up in-character, get assigned into a group of strangers based off of your level and questing preferences, and then go do some quests while roleplaying. It’s great fun.
You can see some of the other organized stuff we get up to on the GW2 Roleplayers website — there’s also the random RP that happens now and then around the world. I’ve seen RP almost everywhere at this point.
Once I saw a 15-member charr warband marching to war outside of Fort Trinity. The best part? They all had named their characters to have “Fang<something>” as their last name, just like a lore-appropriate warband would. I can’t remember anything else about them but it was the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen as a roleplayer.
Men of Science [MoS] – Tarnished Coast
Serious question: Is the OP still on IoJ after the mass exodus today?
Men of Science [MoS] – Tarnished Coast
Thread is obvious, knowing they are coming into t5 they need more people. No matter how good one guild is they cannot carry a server. I lol @ kaineing being a wvw orientated server, you fools were stuck at the bottom t8 until WM transferred and now just riding on their glory. Prepare to be disappointed.
They also got Rethesis from Darkhaven and a few others I can’t recall offhand, and then their growth spurt happened. It isn’t just War Machine, it’s like 8 guilds at this point.
Men of Science [MoS] – Tarnished Coast
oh yeah get every person to transfer to kaineng like it isnt already bad enough with the transfered ppl in kain already.
I personally want more people to transfer to Kaineng. I find the entire affair hilarious, and I hope that they come up here and smack Tarnished Coast around too.
You have no concept of humor if you’re bitter about Kaineng the entire world bandwagoning to Kaineng, lol. It’s just comical beyond comical.
For all we know this was written in the legends and penned by Nostradamus in his prophecies. That pedantic old Frenchie’s scrying bowl probably told him all about this and he probably misinterpreted it as the apocalypse or something equally as boring.
Kaineng’s surge toward the top is nothing short of foreshadowing. The next expansion has been foretold: we shall return to Cantha imminently. It all makes sense — Kaineng is going to gain enough people to challenge Sea of Sorrows for first place. Once they defeat SoS and cross that spiritual boundary, we, too, shall cross the Sea of Sorrows and find ourselves upon Cantha’s magnificent shores.
It’s all beautiful and hilarious and do it.
Edit:
Wait! No! I was wrong!
It’s the Canthans that will cross the Sea of Sorrows first and reach us! I had it backward! It’s all so clear to me now! The Emperor will leave from Kaineng, cross the Sea of Sorrows and… I dunno, steamroll the Shiverpeaks or something.

IoJ: Seriously guys, I’m sorry. If you’re just interested in WvW, I’d recommend transferring anywhere else and just taking advantage of the guesting feature to play with any friends you leave behind on IoJ.
FA: I will be disappointed if you don’t move up to Tier 2. I need a good thorn in my side. Here I was a week ago hoping that you’d get blasted into Tier 4 to deal with Kaineng (and then down to Tier 5 in their wake) — how the tides have turned indeed.
Men of Science [MoS] – Tarnished Coast
SBI, did you guys lose some people, or is it just inactivity this week?
I’m asking seriously, as you were neck and neck with us just yesterday and poised to overtake TC.
Men of Science [MoS] – Tarnished Coast
If Maguuma are the trolls they’d like us to believe they are, then on January 27th they’ll “night cap” a different server, and by that I mean all suddenly vanish from Maguuma and leave the new transfers on Maguuma to figure out wtf to do with themselves.
Maguuma players if you’re reading this, I recommend moving to Kaineng because obviously.
Men of Science [MoS] – Tarnished Coast
Or if you have a really purdy mouth, you might be welcomed under Bunzy’s desk.

Is it a board game?
Men of Science [MoS] – Tarnished Coast
WvWvWvGvT is serious business!
Please, please do not come to Maguuma unless you like fun.
And flame rams.If you like fun and flame rams maybe you should join Crystal Desert!
I dunno that’s just like, their opinion, man.
If you want fun with flame rams you should check out Sanctum of Rall. They recently constructed the “Great Wall of Rall” as seen in the video below:
Men of Science [MoS] – Tarnished Coast

Men of Science [MoS] – Tarnished Coast
I do how ever want to be on a server that is PUG friendly, Is some what competitive and has the numbers to stand up to the servers like kaineng
All three of these describe Tarnished Coast. The added benefit is that we have a gigantic population (likely the highest single server population in the game at this point in time), so it’s very hard not to bump into people while out questing and exploring.
The only downside to Tarnished Coast would be if you cannot stand roleplay, as we are the unofficial roleplaying server for North America. If you don’t mind stumbling across people in-character every so often, then Tarnished Coast is probably what you’re looking for.
The majority of our WvW players are pugs/our general militia and not part of big, organized guilds (myself included). Our population is big enough to give us a foothold in T2/T3, and we tend to have a strong competitive presence, even if we are not the best in the world at what we do.
Just thought I’d throw it out there, as you’ve basically described TC in your request. Best of luck with where ever you end up.
Men of Science [MoS] – Tarnished Coast
And even worse, I am stuck with having to use Runes of the Centaur which are terrible.
But if you’re a human, everything about Runes of the Centaur is super appropriate.
Shouting “I can outrun a centaur!” while getting a boost from your centaur runes and having leveled from 1 to ~45 killing nothing but centaur? The only thing that could improve this scenario would be if you were wielding centaur weapons.
/me has horrible flashbacks to a dark time in my character’s leveling career whenever swiftness is applied.
Men of Science [MoS] – Tarnished Coast
The best answer to the loot problem is to just make it show up for you in a chest at your portal hub spawn.
Don’t have the loot disappear but have it cap out at 100 or whatever items. That way you can always redeem your missed loot, similar to what happened when you finished instances in GW1 and missed stuff.

Fort Aspenwood players: Good job pulling ahead and widening that gap a bit, it was down to something like 0.135 ranking difference at one point. Now let’s see if you can’t chase the 4.015 point lead Dragonbrand has over you and steal second from them next week!
I know I know, I’m posting in the wrong tier’s thread. Forgive me for having fond memories.
Men of Science [MoS] – Tarnished Coast
You just re-stated what I said except you took 4 paragraphs and threw in the points…..
o.O
I thought you were implying that SoR’s new-found late night +450’s was something to be expected long-term. I was posting evidence counter to that. You guys usually tick around 300-350 during this time.
Whatever.
Men of Science [MoS] – Tarnished Coast
How is BG doing in T1?
SoR = the night capper of tier 2. You’ve become what you hated.
You couldn’t be more right….if you actually were right. I mean I guess all that PvD really helped BG out.
Putting up 500 PPT was night capping when BG did it, but now it isn’t when SoR does it? Good to know night capping is okay when your server does it (as if we didn’t know that already).
Failed to meet T1 expectations so you come to our thread?
I hope TW realizes that the first week after a server switches tiers makes the scoreboard meaningless for that week.
You can judge them (and yourselves) beginning on the 24th.
I’m not saying you can’t talk smack because who am I to stop you. I’m just saying, don’t bother thumping chests over the score during the first week following a switch.
Thing was SoR was pulling ahead in points prior to any of our new guilds moving here over BSI and TC.
TC just doesn’t have the coverage overall. SBI did, however after speaking to many steelbluff islanders a lot of their pugs stop coming in after 1-2 wipes. It has nothing to do with that. It has to do with the ranking system. Whenever a server drops a tier they tank in points, and whenever a server goes up a tier they go positive in points. Next week will have stabilized scores and we’ll be able to actually see where we all match up.
I never claimed that TC has more or less coverage than any other servers, nor did I intend to do so.
You’re talking rating, which is correct. PPT and even possibly overall points within the match-up though will probably stay similar unless something changes within each server makeup.
The entire system needs to be dumped quite frankly.
Not necessarily. Whenever a tier switch happens, especially between a very stagnant competition like SoR vs BG vs <anyone else>, more players who had previously lost interest tend to come back in to check things out.
On the other hand, SBI probably has a mixed bag right now. Some of their players are likely to be taking a break this week after the T1 grind, while others might be coming back/be curious about the new competition.
TC hasn’t really changed either way in terms of score. We’ll probably end the week somewhere in the 150k-160k range as we have the past few weeks. In BG’s case, they’re obviously not going to score as highly now that they’re the third place server.
As I said, I expect next week to be more stable.
Edit:
Actually reviewing the past few weeks scores’ too, SoR is pretty on par for your record. You’ll probably end at around 210k, which is only a slight jump above what you were scoring against IoJ.
Next week you’re likely to gain slightly less and SBI is likely to gain slightly more.

What do you think is the most populated server?
Tarnished Coast by far.
I never have problems bumping into people on Tarnished Coast. People just keep crawling out of the woodwork; if you’re claustrophobic you may want to choose another server.
Men of Science [MoS] – Tarnished Coast
Since Tarnished Coast is the unofficial RP server this would help us out quite a bit.
When I first started I wasn’t expecting much in terms of RP (although my friends and I enjoy it), but when we heard Tarnished Coast was the unofficial RP server we transferred over and never looked back.
Without having some way to denote that for new players (like, hint hint, making us an official RP server), it’s going to be difficult to draw more roleplayers into the fold/place we call home.
Men of Science [MoS] – Tarnished Coast
its really no fun when the 1st place team in the tier a boatload of transfers guilds
Now now don’t be like that.
In fact I’m expecting a lot of guilds to up and transfer on the 27th without notice or warning, most likely to the top six servers.
If they’re on SoR now then it means they’re likely stuck there for the long haul, and there’s nothing wrong with population stability.
Unless of course they up and transfer without warning on the 27th.

While we’re at it, I want my Warrior to be able to drop portals, my Guardian should be able to stealth and my Thief should be able to summon a dragon.
My guardian can drop portals, stealth, throw out immobilizing nets, plant seed turrets (as a human), summon elementals, and so on.
However that’s only in PvE and using consumables, which aren’t welcomed in WvW. I get the sarcasm but sometimes I believe allowing these things to be used in WvW would show people just how easy these things are to counter.
Men of Science [MoS] – Tarnished Coast
On the mesmer topic :
illusionary leap : range 600, buggy as hell, needs a target
Target critter 600+ units away → press 3 → ??? → profit
I do the same thing on my guardian with Flashing Blade when I use a sword. The two skills function similarly.
WvW is saturated in neutral mobs and critters. You almost never find yourself in a situation where there isn’t something on your screen. Targeting a distant rabbit has saved my life several times.
You can sword blink in something’s direction even if it is way out of range, you’re just limited to the 600 units of distance.
Men of Science [MoS] – Tarnished Coast
How is the queue times for around 8 pm EST in your server? I have some friends and i interested in changing servers for a good community with WvW players with a brain, but of course we worry about queue times taking away our fun.
It varies. On reset night and the weekend there’s usually a queue of course, and the longest I’ve seen on those is an hour.
Those have been somewhat anomalous and aren’t the norm, though. Normally our queues when we have them are under 10 minutes, and we almost never have a queue on every map.
Men of Science [MoS] – Tarnished Coast
I love how you’re all just scoffing at the problem I posted about, then go on about how to circumvent said problem.
Wouldn’t it be that much easier to just give everyone 25% runspeed signet? Honestly?
I’m not scoffing at a problem, because I don’t believe that there is a problem.
As a guardian I have much better utility skills than movement speed signets. I’m also able to move faster than people with them when I need to.
I am comfortable with the current environment. If a thief or ranger wants to use a movement speed signet then that’s their choice. I probably would not use one if guardians had one, as again I have much more superior utility skill options.
Men of Science [MoS] – Tarnished Coast
I am okay with Warriors, Guardians, Engineers and Mesmers not having speed boost utility signets. IMHO, Necromancer, Elementalist, Thief and Ranger fill scout options well enough.
Either way the 25% speed boost can’t push you past the 33% hard cap so even with Swiftness they’re not going faster than you. It just means that they have to press one less button when scouting.
My guardian is able to outrun thieves relatively consistently when I feel like playing my greatsword build. Leap of Faith covers more distance in less time than regular movement can.
I’m sure that Warriors have something similar.
Men of Science [MoS] – Tarnished Coast
Any server that is losing by at least 50,000 points should have the opportunity to summon an entire dispatch of Commando-profession NPCs to fight for them and generally cause chaos. This would only be available during the 24 hour period leading up to reset.
The summon would pull a large number of Commandos (let’s say 100-500) through space and time via the Mists and deposit them into each borderland and EB. They would drop siege to be built and roam around blowing up walls, sniping enemy players and critters at random, calling in air-strikes and generally being a pain in the kitten
The siege would be things such as helicopters, ballistic missile silos, airships, space tanks and orbital death lasers. Helicopters would take 400 supply to build, ballistic missile silos would take 1000 supply, airships would take 2500 supply, space tanks would take 4000 supply and orbital death lasers would take 10000 supply.
This would instantly make it hilarious and fun for the losing server.
I like the idea about space tanks.
But my suggestion is this: the zerger server does not have a downed state.
Just imagine one of these walking up to knock on Stonemist Castle’s gate: http://onlyhdwallpapers.com/wallpaper/space_tank_robots_artwork_desktop_1600x1200_hd-wallpaper-33930.jpg
And by knocking I obviously mean vaporizing.
Men of Science [MoS] – Tarnished Coast
Repair costs & cheaper siege for the outmanned is a good idea, I would add maybe a 10% passisve out of combat speed boost to allowing the smaller population to be able to get around the map faster while dealing with several forces hitting numerous targets at once.
Cheaper siege is terrible.
If buying: log in during off hours → buy everything at a discount → give to your guild to use during primetime
If building: log in during off hours → drop a bunch of golems → build them at a discount → hide 70 golems in your spawn while you wait for people to wake up

yet he has dont the incredibly hard achievements like 5000 kills with a shield
How to get 5k kills with a shield in two easy steps:
1. Find a bunch of critters (such as the rats in Beetletun)
2. Hit them with your shield for a few daysThat’s it, you’re done! Congratulations! You’ve now completed an incredibly hard achievement, and can proudly say that you’ve smashed 5000 rats with your shield!
Edit:
Less sarcasm now. These achievements are account bound. Just roll out a new human warrior and hit 4 every 25 seconds. If you’ve already got a level 70+ warrior, then walk over to Beetletun with the Shield Master trait on (Defense IX) and do it every 20 seconds instead. We all understand the process.
Now lets see a screenshot of you with the achievement?
Thats right, probably less than 0.25% of the population has that achievement because its way more difficult to accomplish than you make it sound on paper…….from the sheer boredom of it and the recast timer and the fact only 3 classes can even use a shield and only 1 of the two shield skills even do damage) and it has to be a killing blow to register toward the achievement.
I dont know a single person with that achievement, so show me a screenshot of yours, you can be worlds first.
I don’t have it because I don’t care about meaningless grind achievements.
I killed 1000 critters — yay?
No one cares. Waiting around for 30 seconds isn’t difficult. It’s boring. No thanks.
