As far as I know you do get credited for trebbing only.
If the wall you damaged actually goes down you should get rewarded for it. I have received rewards many times before, just for trebbing….
I spent several hours spamming 2 on trebs a few weeks ago and got literally no reward for it.
Siege is boring as kitten. I understand that I’m helping out and I enjoy that I am, but holy kitten do I need to have more incentive to sit there spamming 2 for hours on end than flipping a tower. I decided never to treb kitten again because of that experience.

It still feels low for a permanent upgrade but seriously, 25k uses is already quite a bit to lump together.
You’re forgetting the added bonus of convenience. Never having to check your inventory for your mithril/ori tools is well worth the 25k uses, I reckon.
That’s my point, really. 10g is too low of a price. It’d need to be at least 25g to make up for the convenience factor.
It isn’t the same as just buying 250 picks and using them up. Once you hit 25001 uses you’re at the point where you’re now mining for free. 25000 uses should take someone a long time (we’re talking 4-12 months depending on how often they mine), but we’re still talking about spending 10g — the listed vendor price for the uses — for the convenience of having extra bag space, the convenience of never needing to worry about running out of picks, etc.
The 10g tag makes normal picks obsolete, which is horrible from a design perspective.
Men of Science [MoS] – Tarnished Coast
I was going to mock you for suggesting 10g each and say that’s a bit low, but then I did the math. That’s the cost of an entire stack of orichalcum picks.
It still feels low for a permanent upgrade but seriously, 25k uses is already quite a bit to lump together.

Noticed something interesting today…
Maguuma is in place to move into tier 4 next week.DragonBrand is VERY close to moving into tier 3.
If FA and IoJ manage to hold their ground until next week (remain in tier 3) then it’s possible the added competition of Maguuma vs. Dragonbrand may stunt DB’s progress enough to keep them in Tier 4.
Or… someone’s dropping to tier 4 to fight Maguuma and likely be stuck there due to the new contender.
Darnit… the heat is ON this week!
It’s very likely that Maguuma and possibly Yak’s Bend will gain points next week, while Dragonbrand will lose points. That’s specifically because of how the ranking system works in terms of servers switching tiers.
That can be prevented if Dragonbrand does extraordinarily well, but I somehow doubt that Maguuma (who I believe just got some transfers) is going to be giving up an easy win any time soon.
The good news is that no one is likely to drop this week. The bad news is that Dragonbrand is still on a tear. I’ll be watching with bated breath — make it exciting!
Edit:
Oh wow. As of the most recent update (Tier 3: 1 hour ago; Tier 4: 35 mins ago), Dragonbrand is only 3.337 points behind Fort Aspenwood, and also only 3.849 points behind Isle of Janthir.
We’re looking at 0.512 ranking separating IoJ and FA — it’s possible that Dragonbrand may pass both of you by. I wish there was a live scoreboard!

I posted this in the T4 topic last week:
Not sure if Kaineng will make it up this far. We will see what happens when they matchup vs Maguma.
Doesn’t Kaineng also have a strong Oceanic/Asian population? I wouldn’t be surprised if they get significant transfers on the way up. People are attracted to up and coming servers.
Their matchup with Mag (or EB/YB) will indeed be interesting and telling.
Kaineng picked up SBI’s Korean guild War Machine. That’s why SBI is in freefall and why they’re switching with Blackgate next week. I’m fairly positive they picked up Rethesis from Darkhaven too, which are a relatively large group. You’ll note that Darkhaven has taken a sudden nose dive this week.
Depending on Kaineng’s presence as they climb their way up, you guys may be in trouble. At the same time, depending on how badly SBI smashes up TC, we might switch places with Crystal Desert in T3 soon. If that happens, then FA is likely to get focused as our servers don’t exactly get along. That may also shuffle things up in T4.
You guys are right in the middle of two big potential game changers. I wouldn’t worry about T4 being stagnant for too long.
As it turns out, Stormbluff Isle is doing less than stellar this week. Meanwhile, Isle of Janthir is doing way less than stellar this week. It is more likely at this point in time that Dragonbrand will switch with IoJ, not Fort Aspenwood.
If this week’s trends continue next week (and noting that Dragonbrand has been positive in points for 8 weeks while Isle of Janthir has been negative in points for 5 weeks, it’s likely), then DB and IoJ swap in 10 days.
Edit: I forgot about Maguuma. Hmm.
Hopefully we will see you next week in the battle field Dragonbrand, keep up your pressure, give them everything you got this week, and you will flip with one of the servers from our tier. It’s been months since a Tier 3 – Tier 4 flip has occurred!
Including this week, 6 weeks.

While you’re at it make NPC armys siege towers and keeps, roam around ganking ppl and fliping supply camps. Oh and dont forget some stealthed npcs in JP to one shot lowbies trying to get their dailies done. Then we simply wont need ppl in w3 at all.profit ( is it? )
Yes let’s mock any idea that seeks to improve a terribly lacking aspect of WvW rather than having a discussion. That is much more productive.
I don’t agree with the OP’s suggested solution to the problem but I agree that there is in fact a problem. Anyone that has ever invested time into escorting yaks knows and feels his concerns. Defending yaks is almost comical — most of the time you’re not even defending them, you’re spamming swiftness boosts and hoping that literally no one shows up.
If people do show up, you are almost powerless to preventing them from killing the yak. The NPC guards don’t do any healing, they do ticklish damage and chase people in circles. The yak itself has poor defense and average health, and has no way to heal itself minus out-of-combat health resetting. A single thief, warrior, ranger, mesmer, guardian, elementalist, necromancer or engineer (did you note that I’ve just listed literally everyone?) can kill a yak before a single player can stop them.
No matter what the situation is, unless it’s a ratio of 5 defenders for every 1 attacker, the yak dies. I saved a yak from getting ganked today. How did I do that? Four of my team mates just happened to stumble by and helped me to burst down the attacker before they could burst down the yak.
It takes 20% as much damage to burst down a yak than it does to burst down a player; how is this not worth bringing up for discussion and criticism?
Men of Science [MoS] – Tarnished Coast
That site is missing a lot of guilds including GODS in FA, KH in CD, and Hel in IoJ.
You need to register your guild on the site — just like the WvW rankings site, it works off of submissions. There’s currently no way for third party resources to pull up this type of data from the game database.
My tiny guild is one of the guilds registered on that site. It’s just a matter of finding someone who is willing to maintain the info for your guild.
Men of Science [MoS] – Tarnished Coast
I don’t get any sort of reward when I defend a yak from getting killed and get it to barely slip by into a tower portal, but the person attacking the yak does get a reward for killing the yak.
Yeah, that’s because when there WERE rewards, bots were walking the easiest Dolyak routes 24/7 and getting loads of cash and karma while swallowing up space for actual players.
I understand why it is the way it currently is. I feel that the current “solution” is a kitten poor children’s adhesive strip wrapped around a missing limb.
Men of Science [MoS] – Tarnished Coast
As a guardian that likes buffing yaks that are under attack with my shouts and skills such as Empower (Staff #4), my opinion is that the guards simply get in the way. They stop neutral mobs from hitting the yaks, sure… but when it comes to fights that matter (such as 5v5 yak defense, which I did a few times tonight), sometimes the guards eat a Retreat or Hold The Line that I intended for my allies or the yak.
There is no difference between having guards or not while at least one player is escorting the yak. When the yak is unguarded, it just means that the yak won’t get killed by harpies every so often.
I think the problem is that it’s very easy to kill a yak, yet very difficult to heal/protect a yak. If I’m guarding this thing and a thief pops in to unload burst, the best I can do is tickle the yak’s health back up for a bit while trying to shove the thief back. If I stop to focus on the thief, then the yak dies and the thief runs off.
I don’t get any sort of reward when I defend a yak from getting killed and get it to barely slip by into a tower portal, but the person attacking the yak does get a reward for killing the yak.
I don’t know, I escort a lot of yaks… but I feel that a lot of the system is backwards.

Enough 2v1 bickering — score update!
Men of Science [MoS] – Tarnished Coast
FA: Be very careful with your scoring this week. Even though you’re in second place, Dragonbrand is gaining steadily this week. You may find yourselves in a position where you defeat Isle of Janthir, but drop down a tier anyway.
Even I would find that to be depressing — I’d rather not see you guys defeat IoJ only to fall a tier while they stick in T3. At least if you drop it will be because Dragonbrand is doing that good, not because you’re doing poorly.
Men of Science [MoS] – Tarnished Coast
A few commanders/guilds have gotten into the habit of having two voice pieces running alongside the commander. The commander speaks only in /say chat while the voice pieces explain what’s going on for everyone else and watches team and map chat.
You can probably modify that to some extent to work for you.
Men of Science [MoS] – Tarnished Coast
I like the anonymous name stuff. It means that only people that play against me often or see me posting on the forums will recognize me.
I don’t want to be a celebrity or to be a target. I just want to be some faceless soldier fighting for my world against other faceless soldiers fighting for their own worlds.
Splitting it up so that I’m only recognizable by a small handful of people means that I can’t be as easily read and that I’ll have better chances of success while attacking or defending.
I dunno, I just don’t see the need to have my name displayed unless I’m looking for notoriety or something. Notoriety sort of seems as though it’s counter to WvW’s goal.

“So what if capturing a supply camp generated no reward? No gold, no karma, no XP from the event.”
Then I’d be rewarded even less than I currently am for contributing to my team, as I already don’t get any reward for escorting yaks all night.
I like being able to afford repair bills at least some of the time, thanks.

If you came to Jade Quarry advertising siege people would just lol at you, I don’t think anybody even conceive the idea of selling/buying siege.
Some commander says “taking siege donations at X waypoint” and people gather around them dropping blueprints.I hope that TC realizes that they are doing it wrong.
Basically this.
Although I have to say, I’ve never seen this guy, even though he claims to organize and “do a lot for the server”.
As it stands, if this was seen in mapchat of WvW, especially during peak, he would be hammered continually by the majority of the community on at that time, since we all give what we can for the good of the server, not just to line our pockets.
He’s free to do what he wants, but his actions will have repercussions, and I would think that would be the exact same way on most servers.
I probably play less WvW than you do and even I’ve seen SteepledHat in-game before.
My honest best guess is that, as you’re a commander in a guild, you’re wrapped up in guild chat or guild voip’s more than you are map and team chat. I on the other hand pug/play solo, and I don’t usually run with our zerg.
You’re more likely to bump into our roamers when playing defense, as they pass by friendly towers and camps more often than offensive teams do.
Saying that SteepledHat and others in similar roles don’t contribute is frankly naive, or at the very least a sign of being out of touch with the general pug masses.
Men of Science [MoS] – Tarnished Coast
I have a much better idea. Why not have guilds charge the server for their services as well? I think a rate of at least 1g an hour for each member who serves the server in WvW would be a nice touch. After all, if everything that can become a commodity in WvW becomes one, why not effort as well? Server profits from winning, players profit from gold. It’s a win win situation for everyone.
Except that your example is asinine.
We’re talking about a consumable item. We’re not talking about player participation.
Consumable items are by definition a commodity. The time spent to create, find, or otherwise collect those commodities is the value being exchanged.
I really and truly do not see how this is even remotely a problem. You have a player actively contributing to their server looking to fund themselves so that they can continue to contribute to their server. Yeah that sure is selfish and wrong guys. Nailed it.
Men of Science [MoS] – Tarnished Coast
All I be havin ‘ta say ’ta da PvE players ’dat be comin in ’ta WvW ’ta sell yer siege and not helpin ’da team by offer’n fer free is that ’da lovely PvE bonus ye be gettin come from ’da war effort.
Helping ‘da server by giving siege ’ta commanders or large guilds be helpin ye ’ta make more money in ’da end when we be winnin’.
’TA each their own but it still be mighty selfish of ye.
Sorry commander, but I disagree. It isn’t selfish.
I understand the mentality behind wanting all siege to enter the war chest for free, but it isn’t realistic. Siege is never free — not even from the jumping puzzle or map exploration.
When you explore a WvW map, you get some siege in exchange for your time. When you complete the jumping puzzle, you get some siege in exchange for your time. Time is a resource to be spent and exchanged, and is equivalent to currency in its value.
If you invest time into stocking up siege, then you have every right to choose to exchange that time investment for a monetary investment rather than handing it out for free. I actually believe that it’s more selfish for people to take handouts for granted and expect them to always be there.
Let’s say that SteepledHat sells you a Golem for 50s — what’s happened is you have saved 50s and gained a Golem, and SteepledHat has gained 50s for repairs, food buffs, etc. If SteepledHat just outright gives you the Golem, then you gain a Golem and SteepledHat gains nothing.
How is that not selfish, entitlement, or taking advantage of your allies? Again I understand the whole concept of what you’re arguing, that it’s for the greater good and etc, but it isn’t reasonable to expect that from anyone outside of your own guild. If people do that then cool beans, but that’s not what you should be expecting as the norm.
You should honestly be tipping at least 1 silver per piece of siege you get, if for no other reason than to be polite.
Men of Science [MoS] – Tarnished Coast
Hey Mike/ArenaNet,
Can you go in to how Dolyak points work? It seems a random 1-4 points per Dolyak kill/delivery.
Is it truly random or is it decided by something we are not seeing on the backend?
I’m fairly sure that you gain more points the closer the Dolyak is to its destination when it’s killed. Let’s see what they say.

Let’s assume for a moment that anet did come up with a new reward system for exotic WvW gear, possibly siege and upgrades too. What is the most fair way to earn it? Drops from player kills encourage more non-team player gankers, while rewards from events are favored towards night cappers that can zerg flip a whole map in no time at all. Drops from trash mobs, if they are more than whites, will encourage players to wear craptastic MF gear, while at the same time garner more players filling your queues to do nothing but trash mob. JP’s in WvW are obviously a joke that make no sense at all.
I want real rewards as much as anyone, but we also need to consider how they are earned.
I’m still down with a daily achievement system.
Escort 5 yaks + destroy 3 siege + kill 15 players + claim 5 objectives = daily
Fits every bill and caters to everyone, and in ways that directly benefit your team.
in general sense it may work, but going by what is currently,
the trend is for server to dominate the other 2,
For example, EU tier 9, will not fill any of these in a week, leave alone on a daily basis.
Escort 5 yaks: Super easy, anyone can do that
How: Just walk from a camp you control to a tower you control
Destroy 3 siege: Super easy, anyone can do that
How: Get a ranged weapon, find a tower, keep or castle that isn’t being watched, and pick down a cannon, a mortar or an oil drum
How: After capturing any major objective, destroy the siege located inside
How: While defending, destroy enemy siege
Kill 15 players: Super easy, anyone can do that
How: Run in a zerg and tag people in group fights with AoE
How: Win duels
How: Win skirmishes
Claim 5 objectives: Super easy, anyone can do that
How: Kill 5 sentries (the Veteran Guards on the map that hang out along roads)
How: Flip 5 camps
How: Flip 5 towers
I’m very, very certain that every person on every server can reasonably accomplish all of these on a daily basis. You can do it solo, you can do it in a small group, you can do it in a zerg.

Kerithlan, I think your predictions are inaccurate and/or based of misguided information.
While the info on the site may be 100% accurate and while the current scoring adjustment may be 100% accurate, only someone with half of a brain would believe that a score of 113 holding first place actually means anything.
I submitted the score within the first half hour after reset — there’s 167 hours left in this match as of that score update. It means nothing, lol. I posted it to be silly.
Men of Science [MoS] – Tarnished Coast
While I think that’s a great idea, only issue with that is which piece of siege in about 30 other pieces .. it narrows it down a ton, but still a scavenger hunt in the end.
I’m not a fan of being told specific information in huge war games like this. It eliminates a lot of the pressure, which I feel is important. A coordinate system or something that would tell us exactly where things are relative to ourselves goes against what I believe should be the spirit of things.
I’d rather be able to pop open an interface, see that we have 50 players in a map, see that of those 50 players 30 of them are not in the jumping puzzle, and coordinate with team chat from there.
Same thing with siege: I’d rather know that an arrow cart somewhere inside of Hills was going to expire within 5 minutes than know which arrow cart was going to expire. I want to know rudimentary details and have our team’s skill take over from there, not have our “skill” come from reading spread sheets, if that makes sense.
Men of Science [MoS] – Tarnished Coast
We’d like to make it more obvious that the weapons have some sort of despawn timer since it is a completely hidden mechanic, but we don’t have a way to expose that timer to players yet.
Why not just add a tab interface to the WvW window while in WvW? Have the main tab display the score, a second tab display the players and commanders active in your current borderland, and a third tab display each piece of siege in your current borderland. For players and siege, list the nearest PoI (since they’re predominantly in towers/keeps/camps/etc anyway).
This solves many problems if you can get something like that going. Don’t make it show info for all borderlands, or for your enemies — just your team in your current borderland.
Men of Science [MoS] – Tarnished Coast
According to the extremely accurate early-match scoring that I submitted here , Tarnished Coast is earning 121.003 points this week, and Sanctum of Rall will be dropping a tier next week after losing 71.708 points.
Remember, this is all perfectly accurate!

Its a bug pure and simple. If you cant get up there why should your pet be allowed to?
I think the key words everyone is saying here is climbing up walls. Last i checked wall scaling is abuse.
Pretty much this.
Do you have to ask? It’s a safe bet to assume that it is, then.
Let’s put it this way. If you were designing a balanced and competitive environment, would you want players to be able to torpedo animals through walls to clear siege? Chances are that no, you would not.
Men of Science [MoS] – Tarnished Coast
Not sure if it’d work as I haven’t tried it yet but try going to Queensdale and buying level 5-10 armor, you know the white stuff from npcs. Try salvaging that. If it works it might be cheaper than just buying it. Or not, who knows, just an idea.

Naw, but you’ll never really ‘gain’ in WvW. I used to never PvE and would sustain around 4gold, but if you want more; you need to PvE. AC a few times usually sets ya right for a while :P
You definitely can gain in WvW.
You know that zerg you have barreling along? You know those roaming groups hitting camps? You know those scouts checking on supply and contesting waypoints?
You know what they’re all ignoring? Neutral mobs. Neutral mobs that drop T6 mats and the occasional rare. With just the 10% Magic Find guild buff or a MF booster. You don’t even have to sacrifice your gear or your food buffs to do it.
Do you zerg? Pull a few mobs into the swarm and they’ll drop fast. Do you roam? Then you’re probably capable of killing a couple deer in under 15 seconds. Do you scout? Chances are you’re capable of winning a duel, and so chances are you’re capable of beating a deer.
It’s not reliable and it’s not consistent but killing a deer or two every so often isn’t going to slow you down so significantly that you or your team will be in trouble. I very rarely see players do anything with neutral mobs other than run away (or in the case of the lesser races, flip them and leave). ArenaNet added them to WvW as scenery? Fat chance, they’re a resource. Use them.
No just no. This is wvw not hey let kill this random mob. Pulling those mobs can completely screw up as attack by giving away Ur position or there can be more enemy than u c and can cause a wipe in a few cases
I don’t want to be “that person” but you’re simply reading (and possibly playing) poorly then. I never said “always do this hurr durr whirr”. I said “make use of a resource.”
Do you make use of your siege and supply resources by building catapults in empty fields? No.
Do you make use of your cash resources by buying level 5 gear from vendors constantly? No.
Don’t be so black and white, or so narrow minded. You have a resource — make intelligent use of it. Just a tip: ignoring it is not making intelligent use of it.

If they buffed up the old gear no one would need to get new.
Why is this a problem?
Because then getting new gear would be pointless, other than bragging value. People need a rewarding reason to work for new stuff.
And what evidence can you provide to support the hypothesis that different stats on gear is the only, “rewarding reason,” that people have to, “work for new stuff?”
Additionally, please provide evidence to support the notion that work is one of the desirable aspects of playing a game.

There was a time when games were kind
When their stories were fun
And their quests inviting
There was a time before the grind
And games had content
And their content exciting
There was a time
Then it all went wrong
I dreamed a dream in times gone by
When loot was high
And games worth playing
I dreamed the fun would never die
I dreamed that games would be engaging
We gamers were young and unafraid
Our time not preyed and used and wasted
Games were merely to be played
No moderation abuse
No players lambasted
But the fat cats come at night
With their updates soft as thunder
As they tear your hope apart
And they turn your fun to shame
With development on their side
They’ll pillage and loot and plunder
You’ll lose your wallet in their stride
And all your friends will quit the game
And still I dream this day might be
The day that we’ll all play together
But there are dreams that cannot be
And now other games all look better
I had a dream this game could be
So different from this grind I’m playing
So different now from what it seemed
Now grind has killed
The dream I dreamed
This isn’t to be taken seriously, I just felt like doing it. There might be some honest feedback tucked in there somewhere (hint hint ArenaNet) but overall it’s just silliness.

It’d be more fair if instead of a scoring system we had a round robin system, where we’d have the maximum number of matchup combinations once and then award whoever won the most a mint.

Really then how did your server become full , guess must be arena net just trying to make you guys look bad sorry my mistake.
I’d just like to interject on CD’s behalf here: Tarnished Coast is always full (and one of the first ones to fill up). Most of our population doesn’t participate in World vs World. I imagine the same is true of every server. Population means nothing for the top 15 servers. It’s a matter of getting some of that PvE population into WvW.
Note that Dragonbrand and Yak’s Bend are also full — those are two servers that you probably outnumber in WvW. In fact I know all three T3 servers outnumber Yak’s Bend. Fort Aspenwood isn’t full, nor is Isle of Janthir, and yet both servers outnumber the Benders.
So tell me, then, how is it possible that overall server population is in any way an excuse? /me resumes lurking.

My favorite part of this video is the guy’s face in the corner for the first 1-2 seconds. He’s so god kitten happy.
