Is GW2 moving away from PvE?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Whenever you see any streaming interviews or updates by Anet, it always seems to be focused on WvW or PvP. The recent major nerf to rangers was done because they are too strong in PvP, so those in PvE got hit hard (no, I don’t run a ranger, just the easiest example).

The recent state of the game on Twitch glossed over PvE, as will the upcoming discussion. The upcoming one is on WvW.

Other than the Living Story content (which contains major WvW and PvP changes) it seems like everything is focused away from PvE. Any class balancing seems to be geared away from PvE as well.

I don’t have a problem with WvW or PvP, but Anet, if you are going to change things to fit that, please separate them from PvE so we who prefer it, can play OUR game, without worrying about our professions or playstyle. I went from other games that did worldwide PvP to GW2. You say you want to make it so that we can play together. That we don’t need to compete with each other unless we want to. Then you go and focus so much on the PvP/WvW/esports idea that you force us into builds and actions that suit THEM, rather than us.

If this game is going to go to PvP/WvW while forgetting PvE, many of us are going to be looking in other directions. And that is sad, because it is such a great game.

Guys, everythintg is okay! :3

They reduced the range of the shortbow because it shouldn’t have the same range as a longbow. They didn’t increase the range of the longbow because it’s already at the maximum range available to any profession.

Do you even know what the difference is IRL between a longbow and a shortbow? It isn’t the distance it shoots. It’s the length of the bow.

This is a nerf. and it is not good for those who liked a 1200 range condition weapon. That has been ripped from them.

What a wonderful example this thread is of the good people in the GW2 community. I am so very PROUD to be a part of one that would attack a poster for their choice of words, ridicule their playing style without knowing a thing about them, and mock them for a post that comment responders don’t agree with.

Did any of you self-righteous people even bother to notice he was willing to REPURCHASE the items, but they are not available? He also said he had rolled another character and was leveling it. (Oh, by the way, all, I use ‘toon’ too. If you can use your words for things, and your stupid textspeak spellings, don’t criticize others)

I’d love to get the endless pick and harvesting sickle again, for a new TOON I am leveling, but they are gone. I’d love some of the Flame and Frost dyes, but cannot see paying nearly 100 gold for one color of dye I may only use once or twice.

The only ones I see truly crying and moaning in this thread are the oh-so-welcoming people that are attacking the OP for such silly things as his choice of words.

Shame on all of you. Here’s hoping someone from the game comes in and cleans this thread up, then erases it or locks it. Threads like this make us all look bad, because they are what people who haven’t played will remember.

Waypoint porting issues (possible lag?)

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Since DragonBash has started, I have noticed an issue with porting all over Tyria. I will often port in, and either be invisible for long periods of time, with my camera staying put (went to Lowland Burns Waypoint, had this happen. Used minimap to show me moving to Shatterer, managed to target at that time, and fight, while camera showed me, invisible, just weapon showing, at the waypoint. Fought half the fight from the waypoint). I also have, several times, rezzed buried up to my waist in the ground, so had to waypoint out (financial cost, there) or been under the ground totally.

My settings are almost all as low as can be, which is well below auto detect settings. Any ideas?

“The sky falls and the ground shakes in the lands of the north. Charr and norn refugees crawl from the wreckage of their homes in the Wayfarer Foothills and Diessa Plateau, struggling to find shelter in the south. The call goes out for volunteers to assist the victims in this time of need, when earth and sky seem to have become the enemy…”

Anyone but me see this and think Cataclysm, GW2 style?

Another issue is if you use the ogre whistle or the powder to summon an ember, often it will consume the item but not spawn a pet.

Share your data about perceived strange drop behavior here!

Keysha.2815

Hi,

So we’ve created this thread so that players can share with us their concrete data about any perceived strange drop behavior they encounter. Please be as accurate as possible, reporting only concrete data that you’ve experienced first hand. Among the information we’re interested in: map where you played, creatures you fought that dropped items, recipes from the Mystic Forge that you used.

Thanks for your understanding and help!

Do you realize how condescending this comes across as? First, putting the words ‘concrete data’ in this comment… Concrete? what do you consider concrete? The fact that I can farm in Orr, and not get a single drop in over a dozen of my first kills? When I haven’t played that toon in 3-4 days? Or the fact that once I put MF food on, it changed to one in about 6 kills? How is it concrete?

And when you add the words you put in quote marks to the word ‘perceived’, you just sound like you are slapping all of us in the face. The fact that you say concrete tells me that you can dismiss any PERCEIVED data of ours by calling it ‘inconclusive’.

The FACT that so many of us are discovering the same things, over and over, all over the map (Like just taking on the Claw of Jormag and getting 4 blues and 2 greens (one gem and one Medallion of the Rabid. The most common medallion in the game. On a dragon. But you can dismiss it as not concrete, and that I only perceive that is all I got.

Halloween events had a decidedly Burtonesque feel to them. Along with the graphics, themselves, the style of the entire event had me looking around to spot more. I love that such an incredible imagination seems to have influenced this game, this much. MORE!!

ANet has been saying in more than one thread, that they would provide more details this time around. Given that, logic dictates that the updated agenda would have more in-depth information than previous attempts. If you read the agenda, knowing this, and felt cheated because ANet did exactly what they said they would, the fault is yours, not theirs.

The fact is, all of the speculation on why there are so-called ‘empty zones’ is rather silly. The reason is simple. The game has been out for over 2 months. In the beginning, zones were packed, because everyone was the same level, leveling together, making all the various types of characters to find their perfect fits, and so on. Now the player base is spread out. You have the different levels spreading all over the map, not concentrated in specific zone levels. You have diffusion. You want busier zones, go to the lower level zones. The higher level ones, especially Orr, are much emptier. Those that are the level for that zone are spread amongst them all, or are running dungeons (not just Fractals).

Simple answer? Find a playing partner, toss in Map Chat that you want to explore, do XX event, or whatever, and ASK for grouping. You may just be surprised.

Guild Wars 2 - Nice Community?

Many talk about running with guilds as if that is the be-all and end-all of this game. I, for one, have yet to find a guild that makes it worth being in. For one simple reason: Voice Chat. I don’t talk. I can’t talk. So I don’t have a mic. And, sadly, with the progression of this game, as well as so many others, voice has become mandatory. Even many PUGs now, are giving out raidcall info and demanding everyone be on voice. Because it is so hard to type and run this game, for one.

I have come across many rude people in this game. But I’ve come across many more that are not. You just have to remember that behind those characters are real people, and they act like real people. Some are jerks, some are meek, some are rude, some are great. Ignore the jerks and move on. Find those that are not. Change servers if you must, to find a community that does not know you.

Because yes, YOU can get a reputation on a server, too. As being easy meat, a quick target for those who look for one, or just as a whiner. Let it go. Play the game for you, not for anyone else. Refuse to give them a target, and it will be easier on you. If it is a group, simply say you have to go, company has arrived, or make another innocuous excuse. Apologize and leave. No one needs to know you were hurt, no one needs to know anything. Just go.

The Silent Ones. You know who we are. We are the ones that no one hears. The ones that, when we say “THIS IS NOT THE GAME WE WERE PROMISED” end up feeling like we are shouting in a soundproof room. The ones that never have our voices heard, or acknowledged. Silent. Even when screaming at the top of our lungs, we are mute.

When we say, we want a game different from other MMO’s, we are ignored. And the game turns into yet another WoW clone. Oh, the graphics are better, but the method is the same. And nobody cares, because we are the Silent Ones. The ones that say “You promised no end game, no grind, no excluding us from content”. We are not heard. You have fingers in your ears and are singing LALALALALALA to drown us out. You don’t need to. We are silent. We scream behind glass, where all you see is our agonized expression, as a game we loved upon release immediately is ground beneath the heels of corporate greed. The game made by players, who seem to all be hardcore, because they leave behind the casual gamer. The Silent ones.

We saw the first chance at what could have been something great become something… not so much. Then the second chance. The one we invited our friends to experience, with this magnificent world we explore with such joy. And it crashed and burned. Now we hear our friends ask us what this game has going for it. And we have to shrug, because we have no voice.

ANet, as one of the Silent Ones, I beg you, listen to those of us that make up MOST of your player base. The casual gamer. The ones that don’t want to be shut out of content because our gear isn’t good enough. The ones that want a chance to, if not play it all, then to at least try. If you listen, you can hear a whisper of sound. Do you know what it is? It is the whisper of a tear, tracking slowly down our face. The face that shows such sorrow, such disillusionment, such loss. The face of the Silent Ones. The ones you ignore, in favor of what you want to hear. We want to matter, too. We thought we did.

But we seem to be wrong.

In the “German Post” mentioned elsewhere, when directly asked if Ascended was going to stay top tier, the ANet employee refused to say that Ascended was the last tier and that no further tiers were coming.

Given the number of posts I am seeing with “Anet said this!” , “Anet said that!”, and “Anet LIED!!”, it is no wonder that the Anet employee refused to say anything.

The gear isn’t even out yet. You don’t know how easy/hard anything will be to get. You don’t know if it will be a full gear set (Armour/weapons/accessories) or just a few items. You only know what you have read from the few posts by Anet and the myriad of posts by everyone else.

“I’ll be Judge, I’ll be Jury, said cunning old Fury. I’ll try the whole cause, and condemn you to DEATH!” Seems more than a few GW2 gamers read Shakespeare.

You give us nifty things like seed turrets and make it so we have to take time to open the inventory (hiding half our screen) and click them to put them out. A couple quickslots would be wonderful.

I realize the ‘suppression’ of mail is an effort to stop gold spammers. But can you PLEASE make it so that if all mail is going to one account you STOP suppressing it. I have an account, as does my husband. I do most of the crafting, so he sends me mats off his account, and it is really getting old that we have this suppression thing going. I can’t even send a full set of armour, jewelery, and weapons to him without being suppressed.

Since we can’t trade between accounts, we need to have a little bit more leeway than this.

How To Eliminate Gold Sellers & Bots

in Suggestions

Posted by: Keysha.2815

Keysha.2815

Your problem is, your reasoning is faulty. Gold sellers and bots exist for one reason… Because they can make money. There will always be those that want to have everything handed to them, and they are the ones those bots target.

1. Eliminate the trading post will do one thing… make people advertise in /m chat all the more. The trading post has been down enough that those of us that actually are on to PLAY this game can tell, without ever clicking it, if it is down. Just see how many are offering items for sale.

2. allowing trades via mail already is done. You mail, I mail, voila! trade via mail. In person would be nice, simply for convenience. But it will do NOTHING to stop the gold spammers.

3. Shops are an extremely stupid idea. Sorry, but there you go. If I want to buy something, I want it for the best price, not the price Joe Schmoe has in his shop, because his is the only one there. You are simply decentralizing the trading post into a bunch of individual locations… where we will see spam from people all the time to go BUY FROM THEM!

4. Which drops? Should all of x monster give blood? and all of y give dust? No. Just… No. I would much rather have it random, personally. Yes, I’d like it increased a bit, but I definitely do NOT want it to become a ‘ho-hum, I need blood, time to go kill 17 drakes’. I like playing the game. If you can pinpoint what is going to come from where, consistantly, then it removes a need to play. This game is not all about crafting, believe it or not.

5. Why? Don’t you level fast enough? Sorry, but if you want to level, you can hit from 1 to 80 in about 2 days. Just hit the events, follow them around, and you will be there. Along with lots of loot. This game does not require ITEMS to level. It requires you to PLAY… which is what you seem to not want to do.

6. A more interesting crafting system? Again, this game is not about crafting, so much as crafting is a small part of this game. It is interesting enough… when you get to 400, and want to make uber gear, you have to have about 500 skill points PER ITEM to use the mystic forge for that amazing gear.

I wish to, at this time, point out that you seem to think your ideas are wonderful, given that you say others may have OTHER wonderful ideas. You are the only one that thinks your ideas are wonderful, it seems.

Next set:

1. no, we don’t need special recipe drops. There are recipes at some of the heart vendors, recipes at the trainers, and all the discovery ones out there. That is more than enough.

2. That is silly as well… If you have a recipe, you have the ingredient list. What do you expect, a recipe name to drop, along with quantities and no item list? You just are not thinking.

3. And what about those of us that don’t like doing dungeons? Or don’t want to run in a group more than the dynamic events? Do we just miss out because YOU want things to go your way?

All in all, this is simply bad. You want to stop gold spammers, make a button saying ‘gold spammer’ for both chat and mail, and if more than 10 people report the same person in 5 minutes, that person is blocked from chat pending investigation.

I am disabled, and run with my husband in-game. I would really, really appreciate having an auto-follow option, as it makes it easier on me to not have to hold down buttons for long periods of time. Most games have some version of this, and I just find it odd that you do not.

Also, in the heart quests for gathering various items off the landscape (rum bottles, artifacts, and the like) please make it so that either there are more of them, or that each person can grab them as they come up, not just an one-off. Some hearts take over half an hour to complete due to competition for the various items we need. When only 1 or 2 pop up at a time, it becomes annoying.

Thank you for your time, and for a great game.
