I went in with spreadsheets and recalculated everything using wiki for info (I’m Gregori’s wife, his post in question is : https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Game-Updates-Traits/page/31#post4214959
In doing so, it makes the difference even more drastic. I miscalculated on my skill point figuring.
Skill points available from skill challenges:
Before level 30 (when they unlock) : 72
Before level 60 (when they unlock) : 48
Before level 80 (when they unlock): 39
At level 80 (after they unlock): 2
From WvW (auto level): 13
Total from skill challenges: 192
Add in the 75 from leveling and you get 267
Utilities (healing and slot skills) not including any racial or mistfire wolf cost 143 skill points to unlock all.
Trait skills cost 360 skill points to unlock them all.
143 + 360 = 503 skill points needed for full unlocking.
503 – 267 = 236 skill points short of full unlocking.
I did a spreadsheet showing what level each unlock is, compared to when that tier is available. I would hope a visual would let the devs see what we are saying. Is it ok to post a link to google docs here with this? Or is there a way to get it to the devs that is better?
I think, if they would do something like say “kill a champion in the 25-35 zones” for any blue trait, “kill a champion in any 50-60 zone” for any green, and “kill a champion in any 70-80 zone” for yellow traits with us being able to select from a drop-down menu which trait of that level we want, would be perfect. If it were something like this, it would be much more doable, and better all around.
A simple one I don’t see suggested: Stop with the ‘OK’ clicks when selling on the TP. You cannot say ‘not ok’ or ‘wait’. you just have to click ‘ok’ each time. It does nothing but make you have another click.
Follow would be a good feature, too.
Gloves won’t go away, either.
What I would most like to see in the gemstore are new outfits. Not odd stuff like you have been doing, but things that look ordinary. Things the average person would wear while out wandering. So that we can have a consistant look as we level without blowing 3-6 transmute charges every few levels. You have a good one for Asura necros (bloody prince) and the Sylvari has one (the cook’s outfit), but that is all. It would be nice to see a decent, medieval-style shirt, trews, and boots for man, and simple dress for women with a bodice for form and slippers. Please? Pretty please? Pretty please with bon-bons on top?
Rebuild trap:
Goes off 20 seconds after it is triggered, putting any wall, gate, or other attackable fixed feature back to full ‘health’.
Klutz Trap:
Player cannot jump or dodge for 5-10 seconds.
The Black Hole:
It spawns a black hole where you fall into it, and are dropped from above where you were. Causes 50% falling damage.
Or it drops you from above the hole, into the hole, and so on, no damage, for 5 seconds.
Solar Flare:
Makes your character Flash a bright light into the sky, so all enemies can see your location for 3 seconds. Works on up to 10 players at a time.
Ummm… no. Not unless they also give those of us that do not need the stuff a way to get rid of it besides destroying it. Over and over and over and…
Ascended gear is meant to be a bit difficult to get. If you don’t want the difficulty in getting mats, buy exotics.
Something simple, to me, that would open up the game in an infinitely amazing way, would be to make it so that support gets loot. Currently, if a player does not do a significant amount of damage on a foe, they get no reward. So, where is the reward for healing/buffing/helping players? If there were a way to engage a mechanic where anyone that does either direct damage, or helps a player that does direct damage, could get the same reward as said players they are helping, it would open up the builds.
Even CC is pretty useless outside a dungeon or WvW, because it often does not offer loot except in small, one-on-one or one-on-a few situations. Yes, if you are using CC so you are not in the middle of a massive mob of enemies, it works. If you are in a group/zerg (the world bosses, for example, or any champ), you get nada as a rule. UNLESS you do a good portion of direct damage. Which is why in zergs and large groups, there are so many lfg’s. The more in your party, the better the chance for loot.
And if the group is big enough, you often get no loot at all. Because if you are not one of those heavy-hitters, you don’t do enough damage to rate. And places like the Jungle Wurm in Caledon, the Avatars of Blight often drop nothing. Because so many hit, that you can be a Guard or Warrior, pounding on it from the start, and you still did not do enough dps to count.
So if you want balance, balance the reward system for different playstyles besides “Moar deeps is better”.
Not interested. If you want a pay to win game, go play something else.

Can we get more metallic silver-type dyes in the gemstore look? Gemstore dyes show much more texture than the older dyes, but there is a noticable lack of metal dyes that are not gold-based. Charred is dark, often almost black, and Cinders has a green tint to it. I’d love to have silvers, steels, chromes, greys, and whites with the detail available now.
I have thought of that. But other styles of hair do not have it. And the center of it is decidedly some kind of design. Most tree callouses are cut marks or smooth inside. The image inside it is what we are really curious about.
Also, most plants that deliberately release part of themselves do not form callouses. It is meant to separate there, so no more growth happens at those points.
The Sylvari branch hairstyle has this in the middle. This image is driving several people nuts. What is it supposed to be? A cow? A Charr with a crown? A human in front of a throne?
Can someone help us with this, please?
The current way the wurm in caladon works, reflect will help kill it. The mesmer skill will drop it fast enough that most of those there to take it down often never get a hit in. Anet, can you PLEASE fix this so that we get a chance to fight it, instead of having one or two people take it out in about 2 to 3 seconds?
Thank you.
I just want to give kudos to the Anet support team over this. My husband was refunded some of the gemstore dyes he had extra, but not all. He opened a ticket, and within a few hours he received all the missing dyes in the mail. Good job, people!
I am sure this will go over like a lead balloon, but, as long as Anet says WvW is a part of map completion, they should make it so you can, upon going in, set a tag to ‘mapping’ and make you unattackable. Make it only able to be set upon entering, and cannot be changed until you leave. Make it for a set time (say an hour per BL), and if you are in one place (a space a set number of units in size) for more than 5 minutes, it boots you from the BorderLands. And you can only use it once per BL, per day. This would stop people from using a tag as an escape, prevent scouts from using it for scouting keeps, and give those of us who don’t WvW a chance to get our mapping done without being constantly killed.
Let the attack on this idea begin.
Mudge, my husband’s comp is doing the exact same thing, and has for more than a month. Working with support we reached the point where they said ‘reinstall your OS’. Guess what I did over the weekend? Yup. Reformatted and reinstalled everything. Guess what his comp did again today, Monday after said weekend? Yup. played, blackscreen, comp locks, monitor says ‘no signal’. reboot, no event files except ‘unexpected shutdown’ because we had to hard reboot.
That’s probably a hardware issue – most likely a defective video card or power supply.
Vid card was swapped out, still had the issue. PSU was tested by a computer repair company and it is fine. Swapping out the MOBO and CPU as soon as the parts come in, thinking it may be the vid card socket, of which the current mobo has only one.
PSU was replaced at purchase of the comp. Took out the PSU and took it to a computer repair shop. THEY said it was tested and was fine. Just ordered a new MOBO and CPU. Hopefully this fixes the problem.
Go to gw2.com, not the forum, to access support and it works.
My husband’s comp has had an issue for over a month now. In game, get a black screen. Then the monitor says no signal. The sound lingers for a couple seconds then turns off. Fans turn on higher, and comp stays running. No crash.dmp, no log, no event on the event logs, no computer crash log. Nothing showing a problem. Have to hard boot the comp to get out of this state.
Comp is an HP h8-1214 with a new psu (850w),
12Gb RAM,
AMD FX-6100 six core processor
AMD Raedon HD 7770 GPU
Logitech G600 Mouse
Win 7 x64. home premium SP1
Liquid cooling on CPU
Have tried: Anet support (reached the stage where they said reinstall OS)
Swapped graphics card with another of the same type (on my comp)
Repaired game
Reinstalled game
Took to a repair shop (they underclocked the gpu so badly it was unusable)
Tested the RAM
Tested the PSU
Reformatted and reinstalled everything.
Still doing it. Our next step is a new MOBO, CPU, and GPU. (again for GPU). Any suggestions that may just fix this? Permanently? And still leave us with a good comp? I’m on disability, he doesn’t make lots, we can’t really afford this.

I truly appreciate that we are getting uni dyes back for duplicates, but when it is one of the gemstore dyes (i.e. F&F, toxic, etc…) it would be nice to get a shot at those. Maybe put those dyes in as a rare chance from uni?
Great. So more account bound garbage to hold onto in hopes that Anet does something so we who do not want legendary items can make use of them. Just like all the Bloodstone Dust, Empyreal Fragments, Dragonite Ore, and such. I have 2 mules now full of the stuff. About time to just clean it out, delete it all, and carry on. Personally, I think no base crafting mats should be account bound unless you only get them via karma.
Lovely. if we have to pay to craft, access vendors, or bank or TP, then a lot of people are going to be leaving this game. Anet, rethink this. Rethink hard.
Nowhere does it say it is limited to collections IN YOUR BANK, until you buy it.
Anet, either fix the info or fix the collection expander, please.
One thing that Anet needs to do is to make it so repeat LW releases let us work on the achievements again. Like the holiday jump puzzles. Once the original release is passed, you cannot finish the achievements even if the content comes back. I know a lot of players would like to finish the achievements, even if there is no reward for doing so other than completing them.
I applied for refunds the day the announcement came out. I now have gems instead of tools. It works, everyone. Remember to check your spam, for mails, because they email you before they do anything else. And be patient. There are a LOT of gems to be mined and polished for this.
First, healing turret should NOT draw aggro or be killable. No other profession has an aoe heal that does either of those things.
Second, Rifle is just too slow. Speed the shots up, a bit.
Other than that, I like the suggestions.
I’ve noticed something over about the last week of play, and am wondering if there was a subtle balance nerf to loot. When it comes to rare drops, from boxes and off mobs, my level 80’s are getting more and more drops below level 77. I used to get an occasional rare like that, but 99% of my drops were my level. Now, more and more, my drops are low enough to not give ectos. A couple other people I’ve talked to have noticed this as well.
Anyone else noticing this? It’s not that ectos are not being given from salvaging rares, it is that rares we are getting are too low to give ectos.
I have been an engie since beta. I have not one, but TWO level 80’s in this profession. And I have only one problem. One that has annoyed me since day one. The healing turret. Why does this annoy me, you ask? Because it draws aggro and can be killed, just like the rest of our turrets. No other class has an AOE heal that draws aggro or can be destroyed by the mobs. Can you PLEASE fix this for us?
…Side-note: Hang on, ‘version’ of Rocket Turret? How many versions of Turrets are there? If it’s one for every single trait combination, that’s a potential 216 versions of Turrets. That…can’t be right, can it? That’s not seriously how many turrets there are in the code?
From another site:
[Tulki] – I think the most ridiculous thing is that there are four versions of each of the turrets that are still in the game and all of them have different stats.
Version 1: The regular version that’s always supposed to be there.
Version 2: The extremely overpowered version that’s only available for one second after you deploy a turret. Its stats match your real level no matter where you drop it at. Yes, it’s possible to strike a level 10 mob with a level 80 turret shot. You can deploy a thumper turret in Queensdale and immediately use its chain skill to one-shot a swarm of low-level mobs with a level 80 thump crit.
Version 3: Ground-targeted turrets that you get with a trait. These turrets are several patches behind for some reason.
Version 4: Supply drop turrets. These have weird damage. The flame turret here doesn’t seem to scale with the engineer’s condition damage and they have wonky health values. They seem to do a bit less damage. These turrets also turn way faster when switching targets and are generally more responsive.
Version 4x: And now we know that for some stupid reason, enabling a trait will cause the rocket turret to revert itself.
For me, it is if I am using aoe-based attacks, such as grenades, the turrets will not shoot anything as they are moving from target to target trying to match up to mine. If I pause, it will target the closest target to it, or if I single-target it will attack that. But, for me, spamming grenades with a turret out = useless turret.
Next problem: Now that turrets target the same target as the engie, when an engie uses an AOE skill, the turrets are useless, as they bounce from one target to the next in the aoe without firing.
I think you are suffering from some rather serious delusions here. Scarlet is the “main” villain and your personal nemesis. She will never die. She will always show up. She will always send you annoying stalker mail. She will somehow be responsible for the awakening of the elder dragons. Five years from now, people will still be begging anet to just kill her off already.
She is going to convince Traherne to wed her, and we get to deal with the union of the two.
I just have an observation I have noticed. My memory usage for GW2 skyrockets during lag. As in 3 million k plus. When it is less than a million, my game is smooth as silk.
I have been experiencing lag and/or freezing of my game of late. I decided to look at the info via task manager, and discovered that when I get to the point of my game doing this, my memory usage (task manager list) often exceeds one MILLION k The last time, it was well over 3 million k. If my game is running smoothly, it runs about 600,000-800,000 k. Could it be a mem leak problem? I’ve played games with that issue, before.
Another for Blackgate
Ok. I’ve gone away and thought about it. As for engies, I still think the turret idea stinks.
What I would like to see, as someone that runs not one, but 2 engies (yes, I love the class), is:
1. weapon swap. Not like we have a lot of weapons, but I’d love to swap pistols for rifle sometimes.
2. make turrets tougher, or make them ignore aoe skills. They draw aggro like crazy, but are one-shot by ordinary monsters. Too weak to do any good.
3. make healing turret NOT targetable. No other class has their aoe heals draw aggro and be destroyed.
4. make turrets target whatever the player has targeted when they drop them. Then if the player changes targets, the turrets do not, until the target is dead. then it is closest target/player target.
5. fix the flamethrower animation. The skill does not reach as far as the flames do.
6. give us the option to make skills like the grenades be throwable at a target, not ground targeting. Many of us are just too slow for ground targeting, or lose our mouse cursor too easily. In fights, I run 8-10 fps usually, ground targeting just doesn’t work, unless I can stand still and use it.
About the Engie turrets. I’m not real impressed with the change. Turrets are still one-shot all the time, even by aoe’s. They grab aggro like crazy, so are absolutely useless.
As far as targeting what I am targeting, no thank you. Give me a toggle to not do that. I often drop turrets (when I think they will last) and then dodge/roll/run somewhere else, so I can target specifics while the turrets do damage for me like another player. This will absolutely obliterate my need for any kind of turret. The net turret, for example. If I have that out, I want it stopping things close to me, not what I am shooting.
All in all, a bad job again, IMO.
Yeah keep rubbing salt in our wounds.
The API works and has worked fine for US, but EU API is broken again.
Are you in a guild that plays all over the map? I know our guildies announce when any event or pre-event is starting.
Noooo! I already have more of it than I want, since it can’t be sold, traded, or refined without leveling (expensively) crafting.
I don’t know why you have such a problem finding world bosses. I use the overlay and go from boss to boss to boss quite easily.
First, it started when they began making crafting recipes account bound. If we wanted to make those items, we had to have that craft.
Then it became making crafted items account bound. Thus forcing any of us who wanted said items (celestial, for example) to level any craft that would make the items we need. If you have more than one character, with more than one profession, it basically became ‘level all crafts to 400’ for your items.
Now it is account bound mats, that can never be refined into anything sellable. Thus making us either destroy this stuff by the stacks, level our crafts enough to make things with them, or buy bank space/character slots/whatever to store the stuff in hopes of them coming to their senses.
We already get trophies at events when we are not doing them, or if they end before we get to turn them in, and have to destroy them. We get miscellaneous things from places like SAB that we destroy on a regular basis, because they are not vendorable and cost more to put on the TP than they sell for. Now we are getting stacks of several different kinds of mats that we cannot use, vendor, or TP. If we don’t want to spend the small fortune leveling, don’t want ascended gear, or have our gear and don’t want more, we are destroying this stuff constantly.
Anet, I beseech you. If you are not going to be nice and stop forcing us to destroy things, forcing us to level crafting we don’t want to fuss with, and the like, then fix the stacking so we can have stacks of at least 1,000. Yes, I realize you need a money sink from all the farming you are letting those who cannot live without it do, but there is a large player base that could not care less. And your giving in to those who want GW2 to be like all other MMO’s is ruining our game. New players already get yelled at for fighting champions in the beginner zones, due to not being part of the champ zerg. Those of us that wanted to finish events in Orr were yelled at for destroying the farming zerg there. The invasion and the Pavilion were nothing but farm-fests.
I bought this game because you said it would be different. You said it would be fun. You said a lot of things. And now those things you said seem to be gathering dust under the desk as you give in to the hardcore players and make GW2 just another MMO. The fun is fading in this game for many of us. And that is sad. The only thing sadder than that is the fact that I, for one, wonder if you even care.
I think it is quite simple. Have you seen the twitch streams of them playing? If they pulled a computer off a shelf in a store, and tried to play, they would do a bit more for us. They have top-end computers, and their ‘fixes’ for this game fit their computers, not ours.
I realize that most, if not all, Anet employees play this game. But how many of the developers actually play on normal computers? Not the high-end monsters that I’m sure the company as a whole use, but off-the-shelf mid-to-low end computers?
Many of the problems I see posted in this game are from those who use ordinary computers, off the shelf, as is. Those people who can’t afford top-end gaming rigs make up a large portion of the GW2 playerbase.
I think that you devs should get some off-the-shelf computers. Those that run $600 or so, and try playing the game on them. Do so BEFORE making changes, do so with new content tests, and so on. Then, maybe, you can understand the frustration many of the people in your player base feel.
As an example, right now, this game is basically ruined for my husband and me. We have what is considered a high-mid-range computer set up for us (each have our own), and we now get to run around seeing pink uniforms and the green blob of names. Yes, there is a work-around of turning the model limit and model quality up to be able to fix these things, but then our frame rate drops to below 10 usually. Now, I don’t know about most people, but I can’t see you devs playing this game with a fps of 10 or less (about 3 in a zerg).
Maybe you need to do something to see how a normal player plays? The frustrations we deal with, and just how hard it is for us to enjoy such an amazing and beautiful game, when you do things for the gamers with good rigs, and leave the rest of us behind.
The pink uniforms change when you increase model quality. The names become less when you increase model limits. Frame rate decreases exponentially if you do either. So, what do those of us who would prefer to immerse ourselves in the game without the ever expanding green blobs or the attack of the pink clones do? Play at a framerate of about 3?
I’d love a slider to reduce/remove particle effects entirely. During big battles, they create massive amounts of lag and make it almost impossible to see. I am prone to migraines, and all the flashing and shimmering can trigger them. Makes it a bit hard to do events sometimes.
In reality, it doesn’t matter what content they put in, or where they put it. If they balance character skills to one facet of the game, when the different parts of the game have different needs, then the game will not work. And that is what they seem to be doing. Character balance is ALL towards PvP. As far as necro being so OP right now, Anet knows this. And I’m sure a fix is on the way. But look at the classes that are least desirable for PvE content right now. And then tell me where the balance is.
Okay, I’m quite mystified by this post.
Anet just announced that they’ll be updating the Living Story every two weeks. We have a new dungeon (temporary though it is) and a new jumping puzzle that’s permanent. Achievement points are going to be getting rewards. There’s all sorts of new PvE stuff coming in all the time.
If you’re talking about balancing, that’s one thing, but I think it’s pretty clear Anet’s focus is on PvE and making a “living world”.
You may not like how they’re going about it, but I think most PvPers would kill for the amount of attention PvE is getting.
Living story content thus far is all temporary except for the new JP. Other than the living story, Anet doesn’t talk about PvE. They talk about WvW and PvP. They don’t seem to address concerns or questions people playing PvE have, IMO, either. And balancing is a HUGE part of PvE. When you have a class that was not optimum for dungeons (PvE) and nerf them because of PvP, you destroy the class. When you make one or two classes so OP that they won’t take any other class into dungeons, you destroy PvE. When you then take one of those classes and announce you are going to make them even stronger (more healing – warrior) you destroy PvE. For many of us, right now, PvE doesn’t include dungeons, because we can’t get groups. And when the only dungeons being run are CoF/CoE and high level fractals it is even harder.
Anet needs to separate the groups, so they can do a PvE balance. They need to make dungeons attractive for more than just gold farming. They need to do something with the world bosses so that it is more than just a lagged-out stand and shoot for 2 minutes then move to the next boss. They need to do a lot. But to even think about doing what the players think they need to do, they need to listen to them. And it seems the only ones they hear right now are the PvP/WvW players. I’ve heard a few players in PvE talk about this. And we all agree.
