alts: Fangyre (Necro), Hardrawk (Ele);
Jade Quarry
Its really just a description of how they get their powers, at this point they could truly manifest in just about any conceivable way.
I kind of thought revenant sounded like it should have been the necro specialization class (back from the dead and ready to kick *) but they made it some kind of channeller. <- that would be a better name for it imo
If it brings you enjoyment then its definately worthwhile… If it were to be getting in the way of other things like studying for a test, causing marital problems, etc then it would be bad but what you enjoy is up to you. Look at the net benefit.
The happiness and joy you feel are the only things that are real. Everyone derives these things differently, and thats ok too (well mostly ok… lol)
I really hope its not something minion based, given the present state of AI… The ideas sound cool though.
My guild doesnt put together set groups so its generally pug for me and I dont rely on my guardians (if I even have one in group). I find foot in the grave useful. If you get caught in a push, necro doesnt have the movement abilities of other classes so insta-stability can be priceless. Its upped my dps by making my shroud abilities guaranteed as well. Just my 2c.
Your dps build looks ok, Ive got a lot more toughness and power but you have 6% more crit chance. I slot sigil of spite to get some of that extra power. I like hitting f-hard.

Ugh, still too used to fighting them on my ranger. Completely different fight on my necro. I use all my aoes as much as possible focusing on where the mesmer is/was or where I think he might be going. They drop target with stealths too often to rely on any direct damage shot (ie lifeblast as indicated above even with unyielding). Watch for confusion to hand it back or clear it is always on my mind. If fisty (flesh golem) isnt wonky that helps a lot.
Mesmer is my toughest opponent on necro, everything else I feel far more in control. But I either wreck them or they wreck me, not much middle ground in recent experience.
It looks interesting, clearly you are aiming for some support as well. Like said I dont know that celestial is your best bet, expensive and you arent really going for hybrid. You can get very good sustain/damage with a mix of knights/zerk/soldier.
[edit] Though you lose a bit of condition damage this will get you the same results for less gold (includes same healing power):

hahahaaha after actually watching that video I wonder why anyone even comments at all… blindly spin and shoot and incoming arrow at 50’. come on. really. he moves slightly more coordinated than the lightsaber kid. The magic of video…
Most people are always jealous of people more skilled then they are thats what I chalk most of the criticisms of Lars up to.
I hope youre kidding.
(just kidding #5…)
Wonder how many people are going to stay original necro… or if there will be an option to switch back if it ends up sucking?
^^^
Yep that would be sweet!
I would change up #4 for a reflect projectiles though, we are short on any kind of projectile defense.
Also need to consider draw weight… todays bows are usually about 60lbs for adult, english long bows had a draw of 180lbs. Not many today can wield one, they trained from childhood. So a bit impractical to compare. Also, hence why fire arms took over, much easier to use. Also… there was no way to use a longbow on a horse.
Shroud as is works fine imo. I would like to see some ability to just control pet abilities while inside shroud like charge and putrid explosion. I dont see why not except that they happen to appear on our trait bars which disappear while shrouded.
I think the qq that would result of necros healing up inside shroud would be immense. There already is enough complaining about our “2 lifebars”, allowing them to both regenerate while protected would not be accepted. The see saw action between them could very easily get out of control for survivability.
Necro has lots of power weapons as mentioned, only one condi weapon (sceptre). Mind you they could make it good for both like staff.
oh oh! Ghostfacer! (supernatural fans?)
If they havent fixed it by now I dont think an xpac is a natural time for it. Unless there is some ghost pet that can ignore terrain
Specialization will provide a new elite so at least there will be more alternatives to using flesh golem, thats guaranteed. Better not be a new pet anyway.
Ive put wurm on a ledge and jumped down to where I wouldnt be able to get back up. It ported me back np. So running fast is not a good analogy. You have issues only if you get too far away (1200).
Hey, I figured staff for rangers (because their relationship to druid) should be their next weapon long ago. Jus sayin.
But I do like the sound of Warlock… I could see that as a bad*** cloaked guy with a sword
(edited by Kilger.5490)
I’d like an option to just turn all those reward chests into money, I get tired of opening endless chests…
As long as it isnt like rangers auto-attack I’m sure it will be fine. I’d like to see an ability to behead someone who is already downed, executioner style, for instant death on there but thats just me.
Mobility would be a good reason to use this weapon. Other than that I dont really care. :P
More guesses….
I actually would have suggested Revenant if that wasnt the new class name! Very fitting back from the dead type thing.
Its going to be a class name that mixes death (Necro) with a fighter (Greatsword) archetype. There are other possibilities but its a strong one imo. They already used Lich up. Nazgul? lol
Anet has taken a strong direction turn by saying a ranger (fighter) becoming a druid (caster), why not vice versa?
(edited by Kilger.5490)
I dont get peoples issues with Death knight, sounds kinda cool to me. Then again I didnt play WoW, is that why people are tired of it? Death is necro for sure and a GS is very knightly…
I like death knight, people know what it is anyway!
I think Druid is pretty overused too (actually moreso) and yet there it is. Makes sense to call a necro with a GS a death knight, its like a perfect blend of the two imo.
Anyway, looking forward!
Necro is way different from ranger, thats what I love about it. They have both alternately been my mains and I’m back to necro again since a month ago or so.
In wvw blob necro is pretty decent, you can pew pew and lay marks, not too different from ranger. In spvp (or roaming wvw I suppose), necro is different than ranger in that:
The reason people dont like rangers is because they can massively devastate a single target. When one is the target of said devastation they dont like it… but thats all rangers are really good at. Other classes get better aoe attacks, buffs, etc. Just keep in mind if you become the target you need to take active measures more so than against most classes, and then the ranger goes back to being a non-factor. LOS them works for every class, and my go-to solution.
By double perma protection I mean your toughness is so high its equivalent to almost a double application of protection, compared to your spec. Not quite mathematically but certainly better than 33% less damage… So you dont even have to worry about protection as a buff, but if you did have that buff on too it would be crazy better.
Sry if that was confusing :P
Well then swap the rune of the grove for rune of the pack alternately, and do even be more offense (I think) with basically double perma protection.
(btw I include a calc for ferocity and precision).
edit: nm its 5% less damage overall but significantly more defense. Worth it imo. And you get more fury which would probably close the gap.
(edited by Kilger.5490)
^^^
slot a knights amulet and swap spectral wall for the signet of spite and you’d have virtually same damage (>90%) with comparatively x2 protection permanently (which cant be stripped).
I’m hoping for something completely different from EotM. We already have one, why would we need another? Pretty sure anet knows this too. EotM was presented as somewhere to go for overflow, so most never really took it too seriously. This new map sounds a lot more integral to the wvw experience.
At first I was thinking it would be like “master levels” in daoc (that game is a huge influence on gw2 moreso than gw1 imo)… which essentially let you level up 10 levels in an abbreviated form of another class.
But if they tied us to one weapon (GS) then it probably is a bit more specific about the abilities.. It may be a choice in the sense that you can either stay a traditional necromancer, or tee off onto this new class mechanic, lots of examples of this in other games. The ranger/druid examples are making me think this way, because “druid” is really another class.
Unholy sanctuary is the only trait Ive been considering totally essential… with good life force accumulation its exceptionally strong, it really is 2 life bars. Its not about the heal, which is just enough to basically let you eat whats left over from conditions when you switch back without dying immediately, but that you will never get caught by a spike and can play much more aggressively.
All I want is a map with a big keep in the center where we all get one tower to start and continually blob the crap outta it. Sry, my needs are simple.
If you played DAOC back in the day, you’d recognize the formula. They never ever raised the level cap with expansions either. It was to add new areas, and there probably will be a few better or at least different pieces of gear or sigils etc to grind for. nothing you need but some people will decide they need it, or just to be complete.
Also a new class, sometimes new race, etc
Also some horizontal leveling on top of the basic 50 levels, like champion levels, master levels (sound familiar?) and rvr ranks.
(edited by Kilger.5490)
Was hoping they would give us great axe but they would have to add it to game. next best thing I suppose!
I dont think these are supposed to be earth shattering changes, just small quality of life type stuff, so I wouldnt get too in a twist. Nothing really major for any classes.
Wow, thats exactly what we wanted (a bunch of us anyway).. makes you wonder, maybe they do keep a close eye on the forums..!
Now who was saying rangers were not druid like again…? hmm
It is a “horizontal” leveling system I believe. So you stay 80 but you can get levels in “mastery” seperately just like wvw ranks.
Ok im a bit surprised by this but a new class is what gets the most people back on the leveling treadmill again so thats the main thing.
Eat it people who wanted more levels.
No new levels, no new tiers of gear, an alternate horizontal progression system!
wtf did I say yesterday.. Peeps gotta listen to me. booyah!
Ive been sayin there will be an expansion for years and shot down with stuff like “GW doesnt have expansions” lol. We need a thread of shame for these people.
blah!
Getting the flesh golem to charge seems to cause the most issues for me, generally its about 50/50 after that point if it decides to wig out. At least until that enemy is dead. So I save charge until its really really beneficial. Bone minions blow up real good, and thats about all I need from them.
Would be nice… but I like it the way it is. I’m already multitasking my mark locations at the same time as detonating the bone minion so it would interfere. Whether its a blast finisher or not is just luck for the most part. Maybe the way it should be since there is 2.
Horizontal leveling is where its at… Like a subclass so its more like GW1, maybe 10 levels in another profession besides the main 80. The main level cant be touched imo, all that serves is to tick everyone off because their equipments outdated.
Ya It would have to be some kind of artifical/superficial mirror of the class so it could be properly balanced etc, but would open up some more options for utility perhaps and maybe another trait bar, add another utility button…Maybe a new special equipment slot for the sub profession too for loot hoars like belly button ring. >:P
I should point out that this is the way DAOC did their expansions, and this game is heavily modelled after DAOC…

A good necro can drop half the zerg in one bomb, and it ain’t a condi necro.
Are we talking wells here? Because I find most people know better by now than to stand in them. In fact Ive given up on them for the moment aside from well of power for stun break, because it has the nice side effect of area denial too since everyone dances around any well they see.
As someone who mains a Necro for wvw, I can say its an excellent class for zerging, roaming, and havok. Yes there are some downsides, like with any class, mainly less escapes then most classes, and thieves can be tough because of stealth spamming, but this is why you have to play a little smarter and setup properly. There is excellent sustainability and very high damage. Ive been on a tank war and have been melted by condi necros, and I can melt wars/guards on my zerker necro.
Also most every guild I see recruiting for wvw is in need of necros, so I wouldnt say they are underrated.
It really is so nice to have so many ways to peel that stability off warriors and guardians. They just flop around after that.
Ive been going full signet lately. Plague is really very good, instant transfer so no worries about interrupts. You might not be hitting thieves due to them stealthing just before you hit the button. Other than that works flawlessly even directly behind you. I have noticed that sometimes there is a second or two delay before it shows up on their bar. If its just the fear then what thelastnobody said.
I’ll tell you the only class with that 2/0/6/0/6 build that really gives me trouble 1-1 (cant seem to outplay a really good one) is mesmer. They keep stealthing and coming back with high health while Im flooded with illusions. I miss having a ranger pet that keeps them pressured.
Well this is my current build, which for me is very effective in solo queue. Allows me a good amount of time to sustain enemies and keep good spike damage on enemies. Also corrupt boon over corruption well for spvp, well of power for stun break, and sigil of power to hit harder and occasionally really ruin someones day.
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fRAQNAoYWjc0UbbLN20whbinhS6JIAaWoCSq/hcIUB-TpBFwACOBA12fYxhAIxRAAaZAAPAAA
I vouch for this, same as my build except I use axe/warhorn for quick lf generation, and knights for more armor/burst. Unholy sactuary saves so many times and lets you go in harder. Also different utility, corrupt boon (better in spvp over well imo)/sigil of power (hit harder)/well of power (stun break)
(edited by Kilger.5490)
I melted some d/d ele’s last night… corrupt boon, fear… sploosh! >:D Without corrupt boon its pretty much a stalemate but that skill makes me almost feel bad for them.
For wvw we need bigger bags to carry all the loot..
