this thread…goodness
When did GW2 forums become tumblr?
I for one welcome the school uniforms
Art thieves are some of the most vile scourge on the face of the internet so I want to see this guy taken down.
I love how whenever someone complains about immersion, quaggan backpacks are always the first things mentioned.
rng loot chest.
Hmm, I knew I felt something was missing from the announcement…
I don’t think any SAB mini can top my bee dog though. Bee dog is the superior SAB manifestation.
Super Bee Dog
Storm Wizard weapons are more glowy crap?
We already have glowy crap and they are called “zenith weapons,” why do we need more glowy stuff?
I am working on my 2nd one, have 78% done, am not excited to do Cursed Shore =_= I don’t care about my other 6 characters though my second one will be my final world completion.
I want to use this all day every day.
More tonics like this please Anet, but that 30 minute cd makes me sad
(And yes it’s possible to have a panic attack due to claustrophobia in a game.) Laugh at it all you want and call it a joke; but it’s real.
VERY offtopic but I think I feel kind of happy knowing someone else shares my pain of having panic attacks over virtual things, as ludicrous as it sounds. I’m aquaphobic and going in deep water in certain places (like getting the skillpoint under Honour of the Waves) triggers panic attacks for me so I have to have someone else do it for me.
I thought I was the only one……
I like the rough version, makes it look like my char has been in a lot of battles
But I always welcome customization, so having a choice would be great.
I don’t see a problem with it. It’s nothing game-breaking and why should I care about how other players are spending their time? On my first time at a JP I personally do it first and then I take portals if they’re available afterwards. Unless other people taking portals somehow directly affects someone’s ability to play the game, I don’t think it matters.
Edit: I actually made a mesmer just to portal people to JPs after having very kind mesmers port me in Obsidian Sanctum innumerable times. So yeah.
Ok, three pages in so nobody will read it, but: I liked the writing of the backstory but the problem is nothing of it ameliorates the situation we have of ‘splitting’ in-game lore vs. reading stuff on the website.
My problem with Scarlet is that, if someone is so smart, such a genius and the FIRST SYLVARI to graduate all three ASURAN colleges at the top of the grade – why have we -never- heard of her? Why haven’t we heard NPCs in Rata Sum talking about this sylvari that was smart but ‘something happened’ and she was kicked out? We haven’t heard of a horrible murder of an asuran professor who made a machine to freaking see the Eternal Alchemy! We haven’t heard any ambient chatter about her whatsoever, which makes her place in the world very unbelievable and shoehorned.
I know Anet are not prophets. I know they cannot predict the future and could not put ambient chatter in for an NPC that they did not think of until the Living Story. But please in the future, if you are going to put such very ‘unique’ and out-of-place NPC, please give us some chatter about this person who no doubt has generated a LOT of recognition for their position. Having a sylvari graduate in top grades in asuran colleges is like having our first (half)black president! We should have had NPCs going apesh** over it.
Instead, her existence in the world is ignored and suddenly we get a character that knows everything. I know Anet is still getting the hang of living story but please Anet in the future keep this in mind.
I really, really, really love ambient NPCs that they add.
In the Jubilee patch, I noticed a woman in Hoelbrak walking around in nobles clothes, something different and out of the ordinary and I do not recall her being there before so I talked to her to see what was up with this odd out-of-place woman.
She recognized me as a noble and treated me so, scoffing at the ‘barbaric’ norns here.
I was very pleased, I can’t describe how happy I was to see this NPC! It felt so real, I was so surprised when she recognized my noble family. I asked my husband, who was a commoner, to come and talk to the NPC, and she gave similar dialogue in suit.
Please, please Anet, keep making these types of NPCs that recognize us! I absolutely adore it!
ANet: Please make legendary food. The possibilities!
I am still very apprehensive on the fact that she graduated from all three of the colleges…
This is happening to me too.
Oh, I was wondering what the point of finishing enemies is.
Welp Anet, you did an excellent marketing ploy cause now I’m really gonna buy Cow Finisher.
Reminds me of what someone said about two commanders in WvW:
“There are two pins on this map, one who is a commander and one who paid 100g for a title.”
I think they at least took a step in the right direction with BL scraps, but still have a long ways to go. It is hard to make a reality come true where people should not be handed precursors by breathing, but allows an actual, tangible progress to be seen where the player is not completely at the whim of the RNG Gods.
I wish we got all Dark Souls/Vindictus up in this joint. Then we could talk about skill, at least my definition of it in the sense of combat.
The fine mechanisms of Vindictus combat never ceased to amaze me. I don’t like being restricted to arbitrary 2 dodgerolls in Guild Wars when the others’ combat relies on precise management of stamina for blocking, dodging, sprinting and whatnot, making combat more fluid and dynamic.
Vindictus was fun from a combat perspective for sure, of course any kind of lag there was even more punishing than it is here especially on my fiona. Ultimately I left that game because at certain levels it almost felt a bit too much like work to be enjoyable, guess somewhere a long the line I got old lol.
Yeah lag was a big problem at least from Nexon’s hamsters. I haven’t played since the gear grind just went out of the roof and the meaning of a “Korean Grindy Game” showed its true face, but I really liked Vindictus because of how completely intricate every part of the combat was, at least for Fiona (Lann is far too reliant on 10ping for me). The extra layer of choosing between shields made it for me. You had to choose whether to block or roll depending on stamina, had to know enemy attacks perfectly to time perfect block, knew of heavy stander cancel and sprint-smash dodging, choose between counter-attack or large shield, and all sorts of other tricks and strategies. That kind of, analyzing? makes me drool. I can’t say I wasn’t disappointed when I found out GDubs2 was only a quasi-Vindictus.
Anyone could have easily sat there and turtled in heavy stander for the entire boss fight, but a good Fiona knew how to utilize openings and stay alive the longest and thus shorten the fight by not turtling in a corner every time the boss did a smash.
Anyway, now I’m on a tangent. The only bad part about all of this is that knowing how to play your class like a boss didn’t merit any kind of reward other than crappy Fionas seeing how pro you are, oh yeah, and not dying repeatedly and making other people use feathers on your kitten . I’m all for rewarding more skilled players, but the term ‘skill’ is loosely defined, and like someone else said, there’s always walking the fine line between rewarding nothing to players who are good and players who are less skilled complaining about things being too hard. You can never win because either sides are always going to be complaining.

This just in: Different people have different tastes. More news at 9
She definitely needs more HP. She was completely destroyed after a few seconds.
I am having fun with the new LS update. There are a lot of complainers but for every update there are always complainers and always people who like it. Most of forum is for people to gripe about it. But I really like it.
I feel like the LS is actually affecting the world now.
I know the feeling OP, I don’t like to have holes in any collection either but since I joined in December it is inevitable. I learned to brush it aside but if you decide to not get any minis because of a single hole, it is your decision, whether others may think it is asinine or not.
That being said, the overall tone of this thread is more of a personal thought, thus I see a lack of reason to post it here, but whatever.
Direct response from CoJo? I feel better about this patch already.
I like the skins. Not going to go on a BLC rampage though to get them.
I knew I should have used my karma sooner…
Nobody else thought of “barefoot and pregnant?”
No? Just me? Ok…
Where’s the “Open All” option when you need one
I just set a macro on my keyboard to double click every 10 ms, burns through 300 bags in a second.
I don’t want carpal tunnel.
I admire the people that have the fortitude to farm this guy for hours on end. I can do the farm extremely efficient, but I get tired of it by about 1-1.5 hours in.
Pretty much this.
I average about 20 seconds per. My best loot was 6 Charged Lodestones and a Sovereign Spatha skin.
My soul dies a little every time I queue him.
I retract my previous statement, finally beat her…somehow. Not going to touch 8 orbs cheevo, that is more headache than I need.
She is fine as it is. I have yet to beat her but she does not need nerf. Just… a lot of spacial awareness
Ya, I am here right now. My main problem is that I can’t take 2 hits without going down. Zzzzz
Hey all, I haven’t hit up dungeons in a while and I want some gold CM weapons. I recall that every single CM path felt like someone prying my fingernails off. Instant 15 stacks of bleed and those frikking grenadiers and snipers. Wasn’t fun in the least.
Is there any path that is marginally ‘not as bad’ as the others that I could try to farm?
I think it’s cool.
The reason nobody has one though is because nobody kills karka anymore.
@Excalibur, it worked on the first try after my re-build! thanks so much!
Thanks, I’ll try it.
How do you beat the Pirate Crew? I cannot seem to stay alive for more than a few seconds after I defeat the first one. I try to kill Stitches first.
pistol whip spam works really nice with a 4-signet build. after it’s just one left, bring out dual pistols and spam unload.
What signet build is this? It’s been around 15 times now and I can’t kill more than two of them :c

Shame on anyone who doesn’t rez. How hard is it to stand next to someone and press F, and make their day better?
Earlier it was me and a stranger at a dome, we would take turns and rez each other then queue up and repeat. Had a friendly chat and it was all-around pleasant.
On the flip side, again it was me and another stranger at the dome, he came up and saw me, rezzed me for 2 seconds, and then queued and died. I mean… what? There was -no one- else around, would it really kill you to rez me? I made a note not to rez him next time he died.
It’s really not a big deal. Spare someone the walking, get some EXP. Then again, I only play in the early morning when no-one is around, so I don’t care about queue times.
It would be great if female charr could have pauldrons that don’t float 3 inches above their shoulders, and sylvari men didn’t have poof-skirts.
My friend always has to switch to represent my guild, even though he does not change it, whenever he logs in. It defaults him to represent his other guild despite him never changing his rep from mine. Is there some kind of default here?
In my experience, CoF3 wasn’t so bad. Just needs people who aren’t dumb as bricks. I don’t like that bomb part, though.
I don’t think stereotypes (at least the ones we’re discussing) are bad inherently, nor do I think they should be restricted to gender, I think playing on these things to give a tinge of gender distinction is fine. Male mesmers have butterfly motifs too? Sure. But it doesn’t mean we have to stop and completely avoid using butterflies to show femininity as well just because it’s a ‘stereotype.’
If we had to give every female in the game a butterfly motif and -no other option-, then I’d consider it a problem. My stance is that I don’t find anything wrong with using symbols and etc. typically used for men or women – others might not agree with me.
That being said, I’m not going to say ‘slap a bow on it and it’s a girl,’ because then I’ll get into a giant angry debate about pink science kits for girls and nobody wants to hear that.
Edit: To clarify, no, I’m not saying to show something is female, we have to show it in the kitchen, because the connotation with that is demeaning. There’s nothing demeaning about butterflies, rocket turrets or coffee, so I opt for those things that do not have explicit connection/“belong” to either gender, they’re just -associated- more closely to a gender and can be used with either.

Plus we don’t know anything about Kasmeer. She’s always working behind the scenes…
The only things we know about Kasmeer so far are that her noble family went down on hard times and now she has to work, and seems to be Marjory’s partner. And is apparently a childhood friend of Lord Faren.
I think that’s it? Either way, I wish they’d slip more backstories into the dialogue/cutscenes/etc.
Queen’s Supper.
We travel around Tyria collecting food to fatten up Queen Jenna so that no enemy can kidnap her without a large amount of strong villain-types carrying her.
I may, or may not have got this plot from another game.
Fat Princess 2: The Queen’s Supper
Haven’t spent a laurel since they came out…close to 300 now and I can’t bring myself to use them
That said, there are always other ways to convey femininity without resorting to giving things boobs and hips,
^^^^^^^^^^^^^ This x1000000000
And they can (and do) convey femininity without resorting to giving things boobs and hips. Does that mean that they can’t conveny femininity by giving things boobs and hips? Absolutely not.
There are plenty of ways that femininity is displayed in the game without relying on boobs or hips. It’s totally OK for them to use boobs and hips. There is no taboo on the female form.
People getting up and arms about anything that is sexualised or anything in the game which uses focuses on boobs and hips are being unreasonable. The game does not set a trend for demeaning women, the whole ceremony is about a female queen for crying out loud!
Learn to accept diversity. Just because you don’t like it doesn’t mean other people won’t. Not everything has to be the way you want it.
There are multiple ways to convey femininity, and they’ve used one here. They didn’t just use one throughout the entire game. If this was the only thing they did, go ahead, preach. It’s not. It’s just one and you don’t like it. There are others out there.
Yes I know I already stated I was okay with boobs and hips but my problem with it was that it was additionally unnecessary and impractical to the subject, the robot watchknight, which was why I did not like their approach to showing us how it took the female form.
My gripe with the Watchknights is that their inclusion of T&A is just lazy design. I did do an eyeroll when I first saw them. There are so many ways to show femininity without resorting to T&A.
I’m not meaning to sound like a jerk here, but you described what you believe to be true about the WatchKnights, but you never really gave any examples of how you would have improved them.
I personally would like to hear your ideas. How could these been designed to show femininity differently?
Sorry, I rewrote that post in a hurry because my first one got an error and I lost some of my content! Here’s some things that I would consider (sorry I kind of go on a tangent):
-Depending on each culture there’s a lot of symbolism regarding both genders, even just using certain colours. I don’t condone ‘pink = girl’ and ‘blue=boy’ but you know how when you look at things that aren’t human you sometimes just ‘feel’ they are either feminine/masculine by the colour choices? Like people generally tend to see pastel, light colours as feminine and bold, dark colours as masculine. But anyway, back to symbolism, we often think of things like flowers and butterflies being feminine, so we could have used some of that motif – going back to the butts thing, I think the design on the butts is great! If they used that around the whole robot, I think it would have a distinctly feminine feel to it because of its intricacy.
-I recall someone saying that mesmers tend to have long and flowy robes, I wouldn’t suggest putting clothes on the robot but maybe some longer, curved metal plates to simulate such clothing. It could probably function as armour too, but give a graceful appearance. Kind of like tassets.
-Their faces are incredibly scary. I’m not sure if it was intentional to make them intimidating, it’s sure working, but just seeing a face can be much more beautiful and sexy than looking at a nude body. If they gave them womanly faces it would obviously contribute to making them look female without T&A but I am unsure of this decision because their scary faces right now give them the quality of being effing terrifying sentinels that you don’t want to mess with.
-Poses also of course. I think they already use the female staff stance. It’s feminine but I don’t really like it imo, it seems too vulnerable. They could probably use a different one that is both feminine and strong. I recall a picture I saw while browsing google, it was a knight fully armoured and you could not tell their gender offhand. But just the way they stood, it was a very confident stance, you just -knew- it was a woman. A lot of the picture’s comments were asking the creator if it was a woman too. We dunno if it was but regardless of the gender, the pose let us think it was a woman without showing us anything else regarding gender.
-Regarding the Chronomancer’s design from GW1 (http://www.creativeuncut.com/gallery-06/gwe-concept-chronomancer1.html) , yeah I know it has boobs but if you just get rid of the boobs you could tell the difference between them because of small details – the man is much more bulky, and the woman is more… sleek? sorry I can’t think of the better word atm but I hope you guys know what I mean
There’s probably a lot more things I can think of but it’s escaping my mind right now
