I would like it to hit multiple targets for quality of life in pve. Sure thief dagger is not aoe but it has a lot harder-hitting abilities on it, and ele dagger is aoe.

I think the life siphon is fine for pve, but they supposedly balance around pvp and it is too weak here imo. It’s a channel and risky since easily dodged/interrupted, it should heal or damage for a lot more.

I agree with your post OP, think it is well thought-out.

I have gone 2 different specs so far.
Staff/sceptre condition spec. i.e. rampager/carrion/dungeon tough gear
Wells (tanky) power spec. i.e. knight/dungeon pow tough vit gear
Also throwing in minions when I feel like, since can add minions easily to either spec.

I am building gear for a third spec which will for once spec deep into soul reaping tree (i.e. berserker gear).

I didn’t go berserker for my well build since why give up the survivability for damage which is still gonna suck. I don’t plan to get gear with healing power, ever, since necro healign options are subpar to other classes’ options and scale very poorly.

I feel like many of the grandmaster traits are not good enough for grandmaster traits (& why so many involve minions when minions suck. also my guess is the blood and death magic ones invovling minions do not even work…)

I am also very put off by all the precision i get. Maybe when sigil of earth didn’t suck it was worthwhile for a condition build but now it is worth very little. I would rather tough/vit or even power. Both prec in the trait tree and prec in gear (rampager and the tough/prec/condi gear). For my gear I would like condi/vit/tough but this doesn’t exist even though the power/tough/vit gear does exist. For carrion you get power which is worth more than prec damagewise imo but as a necro I would prefer toughness over carrion’s vitality.

In fact this is one of the things which makes me hate condition spec. You are really squishy, even with rabid (imo) but lack decent teleport stun break or cc. And the precision is giving you very little (36% chance for 5 sec bleed on 2 sec internal cd, 36% chance for a 1 second bleed; sorry I would much prefer more vitality and toughness). You need to survive long enough to stack bleeds but are squishy. Seems to do ok against a tanky spec or against some other burst condition spec which stacks conditions fast, but most ppl in hotjoin are glass cannon. You have so much precision but it is doing very little for you, so essentially handicapped having so much of a (relatively) useless stat instead of something good.

Other things I don’t like:
-wells not ground targetable by default (i feel same way about traps)
-feeling forced to have power build in dungeons due to condition stacking issues
-feeling forced to use staff/sceptre in wvw (tho probably same for every class, I can at least e.g. use melee weapons for my thief or warrior since they have more mobility)
-not seeing a purpose for axe ever
-why is axe grandmaster trait 10% when the other trait is 20% and averages otu to 10% for ALL wepaons anyway
-lack of aoe on axe and dagger, forcing to use staff in almost every build
-why is well prot miniscule compared to protection options of other classes (and most of our support options in general. We get conditions but they are fairly meh, and useless against bosses unlike boons, & it’s not like other classes don’t also have access to these conditions in addition to more buffs).

However, it really amazes me to see so many rangers now who are just hitting Crossfire and walking around. There are warriors who do nothing but root and use Hundred Blades. That’s just not how GW2 was meant to be played. It’s meant to be played with skill synergies, group synergies, and doing more than roaming around for kills.

100% agree, this is what disgusts me about the game, no skill play is rewarded far too much, and its a rather big problem that arena net hasnt ever thought that people would roll all this easy mode crap, even after 1 month of release and 3 beta weekends.

Im not ever going back to WoW, but seriously guys, that games pvp makes this look like hello kitty island. I would never have thought arena net could come up with easier, more braindead pvp than WoW did, with higher burst and far more automatic damage by spamming various NPC’s. Really disappointed in the gameplay, i feel its casualized down to its very core.

Lack of longer cooldown or more situational skills which need to be deployed judiciously (lack of skills in general). Positioning/los/team coordination is less critical than in other games. Player A must have los to heal player b, player a must be near player b to protect him or cc player on him, player a must cc, debuff for, or assist player b (lol assisting, this used to be soo crucial), team must chain longer cd defensive buffs and use offensive buffs at right times. I’m sure all this features to an extent, it just doesn’t make as much difference. Even LOS → the pets just follow you..

I’m sure dodging is a decent mechanic for a 1v1 (& actually it works fine for wvw also because it’s 100% that someone is aiming you if you are positioned a certain way) but in a group fight with a lot of pets etc clogging up things and multiple players it is quite hard to keep track of the animations of every player, you can only go by proximity. This is also a factor for pve in that the boss will be covered in so much animations from spell effects it’s hard to see a thing. Also the animations aren’t particularly obvious. Also.. asura animations… heal animations for different classes, some are unique, some look like other ability animations…plz just get rid of most cast times and interrupts for most abilities would at least be more fun and less clunky combat.

Would you kindly shut the kitten up about this? It was amusing at first but taking this quote out of context is ruining polite discussion on these forums. The only point he made was that the metagame surrounding Necromancers will evolve as more Necromancers find different ways to employ Death Shroud. As it is a unique ability, this requires extra balancing focus. Nowhere is it implied that Necromancers were at par strength nor that Necromancer players were the primary problem instead of the class.

He deserves to be slammed about it.
I am pretty kitten off that out of the 3 problematic classes: – mesmer – thief -necro
(i.e. the ones where the mechanic of the class stealth/initiative, clones and shattering, DS make it an issue to balance) we were the ones who got shafted, and obviously got the least attention considering the number of bugs. I actually rolled the class betting it would be slightly OP on the survivability side come release given their comments but it didn’t happen. And plague while you do nothing or death shroud while you do nothing doesn’t count.

Anyway, I am happy with some of the fixes but it is taking too long so I have rerolled. Risk v reward in this game is borked.

Also, add to this condition dmge on structure/object etc which affects other condition specs.
Also (why not) our condition dmge weapons hit a lot less hard than warrior rifle or ranger SB, or warrior sword, why is this the case?

Mesmer is easymode. Try it. Also if you play mesmer you will realise that most other mesmers are pretty bad and can have fun killing them on an even footing. I also feel like I support my team a lot better as mesmer than necro regardless of spec.

For the people who are saying oh what does it matter if one class is better in 1v1. Sure as long as it’s balanced out so e.g. their support is inferior or they are squishier in a group situation. But this is not the case.

Yeah. I am trying necro in spvp again and basically I die way way way more than on my thief or mesmer where I die rarely. I am sure part of this is lack of experience but tbh I feel I am working so hard for a mediocre output.

The condition rabid amulet spec is squishy as kitten, and I don’t feel I am given enough tools to prolong the fight (and I need a prolonged fight to be able to stack on conditions, restack when they get cleansed as even poor condition removal has about 1 cleanse on avg). People aim you like crazy, since I suppose they know you cannot stealth or blink or break stun that easily. It’s just fairly hard to cast kitten when you have a bunch of people constantly charging you. 900 range is not that much. Additionally to stack on enough bleeds it will take you multiple attacks, just to achieve same damage which my mesmer can do pressing 1 ability (from 1200 range I might add), which occurs in less time.

I tried out flesh wurm, it’s kind of kitten tbh since people can kill it & once the cd is up you can’t just port straight away btu have to recast the minion (which defeats the point of using it as a teleport/stun break). I will probably try adding spectral walk as well and if survivability still sucks speccing heavily into vitality and toughness trees. I think it’s partly L2P issues for me but even if I get better there’s still a lack of decent cc/stability/decent escpae or stun break.

Also lol they need to kittening do something about OBJECTS/STRUCTURES + CONDITION DMGE specs. This has caused me endless frustration in levelling, dungeons. It is definitely a factor in spvp e.g. killing treb or door. A ranger cast his elite on me and I’m attacking it with scepter and it was like omg it would take 5 hits to kill so I went into DS 4 but even then the channel didn’t even fully kill it. On my power spec i kill it very quick.

edit: nope, kitten it. not worth the time. squishy regardless of what I do. flesh wurm port is bad and unreliable just like every other minion.

COmplete and utter BS.
Same for the crowd control part.
OP you can be successful in spvp, can’t speak for tpvp. Try wells & a tanky amulet (soldier or at least knight). Last time I tried minion life leech spec it was ok as well although the minions are unreliable. In the hotjoin you want to be quite survivable since your ability to escape/stealth/run away/teleport sucks.

I don’t think you guys understand.

1. hp: I have very low hp? I have more hp than an elementalist or guardian can even attain. 20k hp is low now. I also have 200-300 tough over base.
2. Yes ideally I would have tough/condi dmge/prec build but this gear is not available without much time, money spent, and not available at exotic level gems (reading comprehension please: I already addressed 1 and 2).
3. No kitten I can do stuff like dodge or DS if I am fortunate enough to have lifeforce built up. IN this situation I actually had full life force & endurance, but I died before I could react since I wasn’t really expecting it. The issue is, I shouldn’t have to worry about dying near instantly like this. Additionally even if I had survived the first hit, what am I going to do afterwards? Fairly stacked odds there.

Please don’t give me advice like that; it’s patronising and offensive.

My only remaining motivation to play the class was wvw but thief is better here too. On the positive side, light armor looks much, much better than medium armor.

note: fairly high hp, and around 200-300 toughness over base toughness. I wouldn’t mind stacking more toughness but good luck getting condition damage and toughness gear in a reasonable amount of time.

He also said he wants to increase build diversity without increasing effectiveness, which is a completely baffling statement. How do you create build diversity if the builds are still ineffective? I mean, in actuality we have a ton build diversity, the problem is only one of them is effective.

By nerfing the builds which actually are effective so everything is equally mediocre, duh That’s what they did with condition builds.

Um hello they’re not on short cooldown. 40 sec for the ae staff one which is solely one second, and 20 sec for the ST one which is more or less simply an interrupt, add to this requirement of lifeforce and 10 sec DS cooldown. A 2 sec daze would be stronger.

IMO ur a non-necro class, you don’t kill the necro before he starts building up a reservoir of lifeforce then too bad, it should get harder and harder for you. You’re the one who has more burst/dps/cc. None of this, stealth/wait for cd reset stuff. Currently it doesn’t really work like this.

Tip for anet: People don’t usually qq as much about classes being hard to kill as they qq about being 2 or 3 shot. In the early betas whatkitten me off: warriors. Necros: I was a bit scared of their condi spec (ok not on my mesmer since i could run off) but that’s it. I didn’t really have a problem with DS. And why are u leaving guardian alone then? Necro has less cc/support/burst than them in the respective roles…

Sorry but I don’t see where all the “skill” is in playing necro or really any class in this game. I can see how skill cap would improve for people who learn animations/to interrupt heals etc, but this is general, not for a particular class… There is a very limited number of abilities, most of which have long cooldowns. Mostly in games I can learn some trick/ combo/ useful information by watching video or stream. IN this so far.. nothing. The most you will get is a good trait build or gear set up.

I don’t feel necro is underpowered I just think most classes can fill the same role & bring more to the table. The comments by the devs seem to indicate they have no idea what to do with the class & it’s not encouraging. I was looking for something with a lot of tricks, something which is a pain and hard to kill. So far pretty mcuh every other class I have tried meets this better & can do more burst dmge at the same time.

I am unsure what to reroll. I usually play rogue/warr but melee in this game is not very visceral! and fun! due to cast times & those classes have been polluted by scrubs. Stylistically I liked necro the best. My inherent -I play easymode classes- radar has finally failed me in this mmo. What happened. I should have played warrior.

Ok I agree with guys above, about fake scaring people off and so on.

-I have 80 condi spec, sceptre, staff, bleed sigil
-ability to stack bleeds QUICKLY is weak, you can get around 10
-you must use epidemic asap or it gets wiped by people’s condition cleanse
-against organised group who stack on each other your bleeds get removed very quickly to the point that you do no damage
-DS is up a lot of the time and effective solo. I imagine in groups it is not necessary. Also in group I would take a staff ele over a necro, a lot more aoe control. e.g. I think our aoe chill is not as large as advertised, bug maybe. Necro would best be a friend for some class who can actually stack conditions quickly.
-pets seem more stupid than usual in wvw if you try to use, mabe zone lag affects them more or something who knows
-necro is all right on defence, against zergs, pugs as I’m sure any moderately survivable ranged aoe class is.
-for small scale stuff you can’t 1v1 very well as it is difficult to chase people down. The gap closers, DS gap closer = is so slow it will never hit before they run OOR, the pull thankfully doesn’t travel so slow but will miss 3/4 or more of the time due to bugginess/uneven terrain. I was playing with my friends sceptre ele and he would basically kill it before I’d do much damage at all both by reaching the player earlier and doing more straight up burst.
