OK, turning off shaders definitely stops the pulsing, and the game doesn’t look terrible if everything else is at max. I still hope they fix it.

Can also confirm that putting shaders on low fixes this, although it’s far from an ideal solution.

Can the subject of this be changed? This has nothing to do with headaches, it’s just an effect that isn’t working properly on some pcs.

It does have to do with headaches, as it’s the effect that is causing them. I don’t have this problem in any other area of the game, and I play with graphics, set at max, everywhere else.

That sounds like the Light Adaptation setting. Try turning it off and see how it goes.

tried that. It’s just too much pulsating brightness. It’s the worst in Noble Ledges.

Set your Shaders setting to Off.

I’ll try that, but then my game is ugly, so I’ll, again, only be playing in that area for as little time as possible to get through it and move on.
I hope they fix this soon.

That brightness just pulses every few seconds.

Yup, that’s it. The light pulses, and then my eyes start to hurt from the glare, and then my head starts to pound in sync with the light pulsing.

This may be silly, but assuming the devs play the game before it gets sent to us, and they are not experiencing this (as also others seem to be fine with it all, while many do have problems); but perhaps age has something to do with it, and they’re all under 40?

Like those mosquito noises they broad cast around shops, during the days, to discourage kids from loitering. They can hear it, and be annoyed by it, but those over a certain age can’t hear it.

Maybe it’s got something to do with older people being more sensitive to certain lighting, like how I used to be able to play stuff like Wolfenstein (circa 1992) for hours on end, and now just the thought of it makes me sickish.

If anyone cares to show hands:

I find the Verdant Brink lighting to be painful. Age 48.

You would have to have banked those items before Beta went live. I’m not sure if it’s as soon as you log in after Beta started, or if it’s as soon as you create the first beta toon, but one of those is when the bank snapshot is taken. After that, it won’t change. I set all my stuff up last might and my snapshot is accurate.

This happened to me last BWE as well. Within 5 minutes of entering the playable beta map of this section of Verdant Brink, I started getting a headache, starting with eye strain, and just getting worse from there. Is anyone else having issues with headaches in the Beta map? I did not have this problem BWE #1 as far as I can remember, but I definitely had it last BWE, and this is the same map.
The brighter areas seem to hurt the most, especially if it’s both sun and smoke in the air.

What do you guys think about Dungeon Sellers?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Kitty La Boom Boom.4065

Kitty La Boom Boom.4065

you cant do away with the dungeon sellers unless you threaten to ban people for offering the service. but as it has been said, guild sellers would not be around if it there wasnt a market for it. and ok you are complaining about people not working to get things in the game? so should we ban all the whales who are decked in legendaries because they bought gems with cash. So where do you draw the line? how do you gauge what is right and what isn’t? you can’t expect to force people to have fun with the game in the way that you do. I myself would never pay for a dungeon and I don’t see why people would, but saying that it shouldn’t be allowed in the game is folly. When you have a mass market game like GW2 you will attract ALL segments of the gaming population. That is the way of the world.

Where did I or Narrrz say anything about actually trying to do away with them? Yes, I did say that most of them going out of business would be a side effect of the suggestions I made, but that’s just it. It’s a side effect, and only MOST would go out.

The point was to address the problems that lead to people paying others to play the game for them, instead of having fun playing it themselves. And as for the legendary weapons, you’ll notice that ANet is taking a shot at addressing that very same problem with them in HoT. Will it work? Maybe, we’ll have to wait and see.

If tomorrow they put in every change I suggested, you’d still have a few people selling dungeons. There will still be people wanting the title for all the paths, or to see parts of it they don’t see in story mode. Or people straight up trying to exchange gold for tokens, because they don’t want to earn them in the other ways. I didn’t say that was wrong, just that it’s a side effect of a bigger problem.

The dungeon sellers are not the problem. The dungeons are.

No. They really aren’t, unless you want to create an “Easy Mode”, that’s all but guaranteed to be complete in an hour or less.

Most of the people purchasing Dungeon Runs (correct me if I’m way off base here), have more gold than time…or at least more gold than large chunks of time that can be devoted to doing dungeons to earn the things that they want out of them.

I don’t do dungeons yet. Why? It’s certainly not because I don’t want to.
It’s because I don’t have the time to devote to a team, to give them 100% of my attention, for the length of time it takes to do a dungeon for fun. I have a busy household, and I need to afk at any given moment. That’s not fair to a dungeon party, so I don’t do them. When I’ve got my primary game goals taken care of, then I will likely pay for runs, and have someone teach me to do them, so that when I can get a good group together, we’ll be able to do them, and not worry about putting anyone else out.

How much do run spots go for these days, anyway?

I don’t like it, and believe Anet shouldn’t have allowed it, but since they have I live with it. I would like to see it get its own slot or an option to filter it out in the LFG tool. That seems like the right way to go in its current state. The people involved in it on both sides would still have access and those of us who find it distasteful wouldn’t have to see it every time we opened the LFG tool.

A filter sounds like a good idea.

What would you filter? Anything with “sell”, “selling”, “sllng”, “dealing”, “hawking”, “providing”, “exchanging”, “any-new-word-made-up-to-escape-the-filtering.”

It doesn’t seem viable to create a filter for language – people are pretty smart even if they can’t get around kittens.

I mean like a tag filtering system. Of course it would rely on people actually using it. If they don’t tag with [DR*] (dungeon run, or whatever, as an example), then of course it would be seen by everyone, but I think most people in this game would be considerate of others if asked, and it would help them as well, since the target audience could search for it specifically.

it may or may not help, but I’m all for providing more options.

I have no view about this , but its interesting to contrast the comparison that Dungeon Sellers are players selling a service to other players for Gold and thats allowed, but Gold Sellers who are doing the same thing (selling a service to other players) arnt allowed.

That’s because players selling a service, performed in-game, to other players, in no way affects the economy of the game. It also doesn’t profit from stolen credit cards, stolen accounts, or provide a service for the game that directly competes with the company that owns the game.

Not the same thing at all.

There is nothing wrong with working in the sex trade, your stance on morality is irrelevant.

Actually, there is. Morality is objective, not subjective. The use of our natural reason tells us this, and proves moral relativism to be an absurdity. My statement was relevant in that the claim that dungeon selling is okay is not proven by the existence of a market for it. Stay on topic, please.

Morality is, indeed, subjective. If morality were objective, I sincerely doubt there would be as much debate about it.

In this game, it’s already been established by the company, that selling spots in dungeon runs is not against the rules.

You may or may not think the selling of these spots is appropriate, but you are not required to participate. It harms you in no way, for others to profit from their own skill.

Trahaerne's Role

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Kitty La Boom Boom.4065

Kitty La Boom Boom.4065

Trahearne didn’t steal anyone’s glory. The PC is still one of the most powerful and influential figures in all of Tyria and someone Trahearne himself looks to for guidance. It seems kind of silly to me that Trahearne is treated as if he purposely phased out the PC’s accomplishments and made everyone think he was the one who performed all the hero’s tasks.

If anything our name and role is too major. Future installments in the franchise will have to tip toe around our character’s name just like this installment needs to be careful not to give any information on the hero that repeatedly saved the world in GW1.

As for the topic, it looks like Rytlock will be the Trahearne of this story. He will be the one leading the charge while our character does all the impossible feats of heroism to make the end goal come to fruition.

And yet, I still find Rytlock infinitely more likable than Trahearne. While playing the Beta, I did not feel at all, like Rytlock was stealing my thunder, and he certainly wasn’t lagging behind me, doing kitten-all, while I died over and over again, and then taking all the credit.
Whatever the reason, Trahearne is found to be incredibly annoying to a vast amount of players, myself included.

Concrete Guild Hall information/FAQ?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Kitty La Boom Boom.4065

Kitty La Boom Boom.4065

Is there an official page that has all of the information on how Guild Halls will work?
I have a LOT of questions, especially after seeing that they need to be claimed, and that there are only 2 locations so far. Does this mean that only 2 guilds will be able to have halls, and then they need to defend to keep them? Or is it something any guild can achieve, and you keep it always?

Are there prerequisites for having a guild hall, like influence numbers and commendations?

Will there be a maintenance fee, like rent, for keeping Guild Halls?
Will there be a required WvW presence to acquire and keep a GH?

There’s more, but if there;s a FAQ somewhere, I’d really appreciate a link.

Is Guild Wars 1 worth getting?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Kitty La Boom Boom.4065

Kitty La Boom Boom.4065

Guild Wars 1 is absolutely worth your time and money. However, I strongly urge you to start out in Prophecies. The game begins from there and moves into Factions, Nightfall, and finally Eye of the North.

In Prophecies you’ll experience all of the Lore related to Guild Wars 2. It’s also the most thoroughly complete expansion. It’s entirely possible to go on from that into Eye of North without losing anything on the experience of Guild Wars 1. However, I’d recommend getting Factions as it really was an incredible expansion.

Nightfall is utterly forgettable, time consuming, and nothing really good can be said about it when compared against the others. Each expansion diverged strongly from the original Prophecies toward forcing players into a single way of playing the game. It also forced players into an unnecessary bottleneck where they absolutely had to do missions/story to get very far. This was largely avoidable in Prophecies, Factions, and Eye of the North.

That said, the one thing you’ll really want to think about is how much you’re into a group-style play. I found that I enjoyed it, but I also had grown up through Prophecies to Eye of the North so I have no bias toward face-roll-to-win. You’re going to be searching a lot for skills and trying out different builds. The great thing is that there are hundreds and hundreds of skills to get in GW1 whereas Guild Wars 2 is essentially “you are this, now go away.” The original game really let you be and play how you wanted to do it. Some people find this too liberating. I include myself in this because I once complained to a friend that the Mesmer was a very week class. I was level 8 at the time. He made one, played it with me for a very short time, then decided to sub-spec into Warrior as his secondary profession. He proceeded to go from Ascalon City to Lion’s Arch using nothing, but himself, that hammer, and a combination of Mesmer damage-over-time spells. It was incredibly educating for me in just how locked-in (bias) I was to being able to do anything I wanted within the limits of 8 skills as opposed to older games where being a class meant being just that one class. Guild Wars 2 will not have prepared you for this experience either as it has not offered anything like it’s old game: a much saddening scenario if you are a veteran of the original and no small source of contempt.

All said, the game is worth it, but the learning curve may be daunting. On the other hand, you’ll discover “Kill the Charr Shaman” is your goal for quite a while and “I love killing Charr” becomes ingrained. You’ll be entirely sympathetic to the Ebonhawke by the end of the Eye of the North and wholly skeptical of Kryta; though you’ll find some sympathies for Kryta regarding their Centaur situation.

GW 1 Mesmer: “weak class”. Bwahahahahahahahahahahahaha!!!!…../falls on floor holding sides and cackling like an Asura in a giggle fit.

Ban "Efficiency" Website

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Kitty La Boom Boom.4065

Kitty La Boom Boom.4065

The main problem with this site, and it’s something Woodenpotatoes briefly mentioned on one of his videos about it, is that it will become a defacto ‘mandatory’ gear check.

i.e. Please link your GW2 Efficiency page or we will not allow you into our group, raid, whatever.

Now, you say, that won’t happen. It will totally happen.

So what? So there are Elitists playing this game. Uh-huh. There are Elitists playing in EVERY MMO out there. Name one MMO community without Elitists.

Does this mean that EVERYONE who plays an MMO is an Elitist? If that were true, then all of these people wouldn’t be complaining about Elitism. Funny thing about that; if there are so many people who DON’T want to play like the Elitists, why are you not playing together, instead of complaining about how the Elitists won’t play with you?

Obviously, there are a lot of players who don’t care about whether or not you have the the best of the best of everything (or at least the way they see that). Why waste your time and energy worrying about people you wouldn’t want to play with anyway, and find the ones that would actually appreciate and enjoy your presence?

Necromancer minions?

Kitty La Boom Boom.4065

Reaper makes MM fun again..almost as fun as GW 1 MM. In Beta, I used Clerics armor with Monks runes and Berzerker jewelry and weapons.
The really hard part is deciding the spec lines, other than Reaper. I normally go with Blood, Death, and Soul Reaping (<3 Dhuumfire + piercing vulnerability), but one has to go in order to use Reaper. I chose to give up SR because Blood ( that AoE heal on RS 4 seems to be far more effective than DS 4) and Death give me higher survivability.

The amount of minions you can raise is so much fun. It’s like having my personal, Army of Darkness, following me around like a hoard of ugly ducklings >^_^<

You can obtain specific bags that will fill with equipement of different rarities and have unlimited salvage tools in the gem store.

You can also use the search function in your inventory and search for “masterwork” or fine and it will only show items of that rarity.

Salvaging is not a problem, if your set up for it.

What bags are these? I have yet to see inventory bags in the gems store, or any bag that will fill with a specific rarity, anywhere in the game. I’d love this.

Standing around in a fort AFK looking through my bags is not something i approve of and i choose not to do this, there are others trying hard to complete events, and generally the map is full, if i am AFK sorting my bags while the map is full i am taking that map spot to do nothing important.

So teleport to LA or wherever and do it there. For that matter, just take the gate into Brisban.

And then you lose the buff, so you have to start all over again when you re enter the map. What is your damage against people wanting improvements to inventory features? If you don’t want to use it, don’t. Getting a feature doesn’t mean you have to use it. This is like us asking the landlord if we could please have a dishwasher installed, and the nosy neighbor poking their head out the door, and saying, “well you can just wash then by hand, you don’t NEED a dishwasher”

I think, however, that the OP is referring to the massive amount of clicking one needs to do, just to get through an inventory control session after a round in SW.

I read in SW chat, once, where someone asked what all those people are doing being lazy AFK in Camp. I responded that most of us are probably going through inventory. There is no break between event cycles, so the first 5-10 minutes is full of people standing around camp doing inventory, and listening to others kitten about AFKers ;P

It would be wonderful if we could get a r-click menu over a stack, with an option to “salvage all”, and a menu for sorting individual bags.

thank you all for going into detail, been bothering me since game became f2p but it really does look like they won’t influence economy too much which is good.

Yeah, last week I saw an influx of toons with “asdfxccdr” type names, and my first thought was "wow. They’re in for a rude awakening, lol. I haven’t seen any this week yet.
They probably figured it out already and have moved on.

I actually redesigned my main character from launch from male to female because I got sick of trenchcoats (thief).

\

Joke’s on you then, lol. It’s almost all trenchcoats for the female medium too.

Almost 32 hours spent killing mobs in level 80 areas(Orr mostly), nothing.

INcrease is insignificant.

Are you farming, or are you playing as you would normally? I haven’t had any keys drop in Orr at all, but I have gotten them in other areas, including SW (once). Mostly I got them during map exploration activities and DE’s.

since launch of gw2, I have gotten 4. Since the “buff” 0, this is anets money we are talking about, they prolly only raised it 0.0000000000000000000000000000000000001%

Ahhhhh. But I think you’re missing something. What happens next after a few keys drop for Mr Average Player?

Let’s say they did raise it substantially. Let’s say the Mr Average Player who hasn’t been buying keys and didn’t do key runs now gets one key a month as a drop. Some time passes. One day he looks and he has 6 or 7 scraps. All he needs is a bit more and he could have a shiny new weapon skin. What can he do to get those last few scraps?

He could do key runs but at one a week it will take him around 2-3 months to get 3 or 4 more scraps. If he wants to get those last few scraps in a timely manner, he will need to buy keys. If keys drop more frequently but not too often then ANet gets key purchases from people who do not ordinarily buy.

Yupyupyup. It’s a good marketing stategy.
Some people buy lottery tickets. I buy BLC keys. I might have a teeny tiny problem ;P
Nah..I can resist, but that feeling I get when a key actually DOES drop? It’s like Christmas morning when I was a little kid! They have been dropping more frequently for me, and I’ve definitely seen an increase in keys as part of BLC chest loot. (actually, I think I’ve gotten more as chest loot than as world drops, but definitely at least 3 keys have dropped for me since the update, whereas I got maybe TWO in the rest of the time I’ve played since launch. The first time it happened I was so shocked. I didn’t even know they were part of the loot table.

Mechanics that have to be removed!

Not being able to map travel because for some reason I am “In combat”, even though I am not engaged with anything, haven’t hit anything, nothing is hitting me, but maybe something, somewhere within range has my pet or minion targeted, even though I’m now out of aggro range. I can put away my pet, and sometimes that works, but minions are out until they’re dead, so I have to wait, or use my workaround, but that takes just as much or more time because of load screens.

If I am not actively engaged in combat, I should be able to toggle out of it and just GO.
It’s very frustrating, and the only way I’ve been able to work around it is to go to the structured PvP area and walk through the gate to LA, and THEN, I can port to where I want to go.
Everything else is a mere annoyance, but this; this is the biggest pain in the kitten in this game, for me.

So... what IS the new drop rate of the keys?

I’ve had 2 keys drop in the open world, and 2 that were from BL chest loot.
