Silverwastes shovels ?

I was wondering, because several people on the maps I’ve been on, including myself and my friend, had noticed a distinct decline in shovel rewards. I was used to getting several during a run, but then after the BWE, I noticed I was only getting 1 or 2 a run. I guess it was just RNG, and some of us are getting a dry spell, lol. I had thought it was tied to specific fort rewards. Thanks for the clarification

I could have sworn we used to get a shovel as part of the reward for capturing a fort in Silverwastes. Did that change?

There is currently an upgrade extractor in the BLTC that will extract upgrades without destroying the item. It’s under the “Special” tab for 250 gems each.

So….I made a baby Necro just to see how it is for the new folks.
There pretty much isn’t a build for level 10, lol. You can’t even get your first utility skill until level 11, and I have no idea how long before you get the next one.
So here is my recommendation for first skills to get:

Start with signets and get your Signet of the Locust. Passive use will give you a 25% speed boost. Use Mighty type gear..the harder you can hit, the faster they go down, the better your survival. Use Death Shroud with abandon, and have fun trying out all the weapon types and learning what your style is

I remember getting minions early – they helped. But that’s it.

Yep, this too: minions aren’t really all that great later on since they tend to kitten around and then get vaporized in AoE, but they make leveling up dead easy (pun entirely intended). I wouldn’t recommend traiting for them too much since you’re basically using them as meat shields (when you finally get the Elite skill Summon Flesh Golem, that’s pretty much the only minion skill you’ll need for this), but they are a blessing from Grenth when you need someone else to take the pressure for you from open world mobs.

Reaper spec (80) is very promising for MM (minion master).
I don’t remember what level I got “Bob” (shadow fiend), but that one is a nice-ish tank at early levels because he takes orders..at least as far as you target something, tell him to attack, and he does.

If you enjoy playing with the minions, and once you get to the level for the final column of traits, you can trait them for Death Nova. Basically, you just keep them summoned and let them do what they want, and when they die, they explode with an AoE poison cloud. Bone Minions give you 2 for the price of 1, and you can pop them manually. Currently, you can’t really get as many minions together as one might like, in order to create your own Army of Darkness, but once you hit 80, and the new Reaper specialization comes out with the Heart of Thorns expansion, you get a “Shout” (in quotations because it has a cast time, so I refuse to think of it as a real Shout) called “Rise”. That’s an AoE summon up to 5 Jagged Horrors (teeny minions that cause bleeding), based on the number of mobs in range. Add that to a couple of minion utility skill summons, plus traiting for a single jagged horror summon per kill, and if you like, you can add a set of runes to your armor that have a chance to summon another jagged horror when you’re hit. Myself, I prefer the Mad King set, paired with the Flesh Golem (I call him “Fred”), because it will summon a flock of ravens to attack and bleed your target and adjacents (or anything within your radius if you have no target) every time you use an elite skill. Summoning Fred counts as 1 use, and for as long as you can keep him alive, he has a fairly quick CD on his sequential Charge skill (in which he charges at your target and knocks it down (usually), which also counts as an elite skill use. So pretty much every 40 seconds I can summon a flock of ravens, and if he dies, he explodes, so there’s that (and his CD is only 48 seconds, compared to the other Elites 180) Alternatively, you could also use Lich Form, which gives you a ground targeted mark that summons 5 Jagged Horrors when triggered by an enemy (plus all the other. Using this form will destroy any current minions in one shot(with DN, that’s a helluva poison poof if you have a full entourage), and lasts 15 seconds, with 180 second CD. https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Lich_Form.

You can do up a decent MM build, currently, but nothing as nice as the old GW1 MM builds (seriously: Army of Darkness Bwahahahaha!). It’s still fun though. The Reaper Specialization gives new life to our current MM possibilities, and is a lot of fun.

I’m currently running with a minion/signet hybrid, with Dagger/WH as my main weapon set and staff alternate. My gear is an even mix of Berzerker/Rampager, but I may be changing that up soon.

Anyway, it all depends on what’s fun for you, in order to decide if a MM build is worth it. It can be great if you do it right.

With the spec as it currently is, I would have to agree with you, but as I said, this is still in beta, and it looks to me as though the devs really are listening to the players.

Where you see futility, I see potential, especially when folks can loosen the death grip they have on all things Berzerker, and start to get creative with their builds.

I never said it was unfixable, I only spoke about its current incarnation. The entire game is full of potential, it has been for years, unfortunately that potential has been wasted and I don’t see any indication that anet is doing anything to change that.

I guess my quota for pessimism has already been filled this week. I’m just in too good a mood after having so much fun playing my Reaper over the weekend. I really feel like the new spec also brought new life into the class for me, especially with so much potential for “Rise” to give the MM a new lease on life (or death, however you want to think of it, lol)

Like I said, I haven’t played it. But since I WvW/PvP 99% of the time I am judging it on how effective it is instead of how fun it is to play. It was so easy fighting them on ranged characters that it almost felt like cheating. It won’t be any good for roaming, maybe they can build tanky and try to frontline in zergs but they still don’t really have the stability for it, plus I still think they would be much more useful as a wellomancer .

If I was an open world PvE player I’m sure I would love it, the animations look awesome.

I do love it for PvE. Consider, however, that you were going up against players that are still unfamiliar with the traits and (my head hurts just thinking about this) SO MANY players that think they can just keep doing the same thing they have been, with just switching out one trait for a new one and keeping the same playstyle and stats. So many people are so stuck on whatever the flavor of the month cookie cutter build is, that they neglect to think outside the box, and really look at the tools they have on hand. Then they complain because what has worked for them in the past no longer works, even though it’s a different thing they are trying to build.

Ex: I do this thing. I’m pretty good at it, and I have the right tools for the job.
I just got a promotion, where I’m doing sort of the same thing, but in a more specialized way, and if I try to use the same tools I’ve always used, in the same way I’ve always used them, they are not going to do as good a job. (given: the new hardware still needs some work.) Do I kitten and moan about how this job sucks, or do I look at the brand new box of software, and a varied selection of uniforms, and see if I can find something that works well for me?

1. Just because you have the Reaper trait applied, does not mean you are required to use the GS (which, indeed, needs a LOT of work.) Most of the time I stuck with D/WH (I’ve tried all the other weapons, and outside of Staff, when I need range and support capability, nothing else compares for making quick work of things)
What I DID like about the GS, was that if I ended up at the bottom of a pig pile, I had better survivability because I could hit more at once, and slow them down enough to get out and regroup. Otherwise, as it is now, it looks badkitten, but is far too cumbersome to be a main weapon.

2. There are armor stats that work much better for Reaper than Berzerker. (which a lot of people seem to be stuck on)
I really liked Valkerie, but I think Cavalier may have been an even better choice. I’m finding I prefer toughness to vitality, especially around the mushroom thingies (hate those things almost as much as I hate the Smokescales shudders )
Personally, I prefer to put any condi damage/duration in my upgrade components and utilities/food

Regarding Stability..100% agreed. The stability we get from some of the new stuff is laughable. Hit “X” for the stability factor and immediately get knocked down. Wonder WTKitten? Look at skill and see that the stability factor lasted less time than the kitten skill took to finish casting.

All that said (and if you’re still reading, ty for your patience with my wordiness ),
I am hopeful that many of these things will be improved by the next beta. I base this hope on the fact that the Devs DID listen and take suggestions from the players regarding the Revenant class, which was sorely lacking in the first go around.

Considering all of the other things that were shown to us in this BWE, it really looks like they went all out for this expansion. I see no reason to believe that they would not do as well for the new Specs. Patience, Padawan , I have every reason to believe we will be rewarded ;-D

I wouldn’t mind taming a smokescale for a smokefield F2 ability. Or perhaps a bunch of pocket raptors that work together as 1 pet.

Yeah, I have been saying I’d love a pet with a smoke field F2 for ages, that would be sweet.

I really like your idea of a bunch of small raptors working together, it could just be the animation, like a swarm of bees, but that is a very cool idea! Love it, +1.

Be cool if they hit, instead of once for 100 damage, they hit 10 times for 10 damage each so it works with sharpened edges really well and even be able to attach themselves to people for a short duration

I STILL want a Swarm of Bees as a pet, kitten! (Unless they added them to GW1 in the past few years?..If so, WHERE???? I WANT!)
But yeah, Pocket Raptors FTW XD

I haven’t preordered so I didn’t get a chance to play reaper but from what I have seen reapers are pretty lack luster. The ones I went up against in PvP and WvW I completely manhandled, and from what I’ve read about their performance in PvE they are doing even less damage because their attacks are so slow.

I don’t think anet is really trying to improve on a classes weaknesses, I think they are coming up with a name that sounds like it thematically fits with the class and adding things that look cool whether they are useful or not.

Unless you play a Necro often, and have played with the Reaper class, then I really think you should reserve judgement here. This is the beta stage, and if the improvements made to the Revenant, after the first go around of player feedback, are anything to go by, then I think Reaper has a LOT of potential once they make some adjustments. I can tell you first hand, that Reaper is a LOT of fun to play. I don’t do PvP, but i have read reports from players that do, and did well in PvP once they got a good build figured out.

I think a lot of the problems that people are having with the new specs is that they are still trying to play with current builds and gear, instead of being creative and trying out new ways to do things, while taking the spec traits into consideration for synergy with other traits. Yes, there are some problems that need solving, but that is what these BWEs are for. Please don’t make judgements based on your own preconceptions.

I’m really looking forward to seeing what they do for Druid, as I play my ranger just as much as I play my Necro.

You might want to take your own advice since you don’t play pvp.

I play my necro quite a bit in pvp and WvW. Reaper does nothing to make up for the areas where we are lacking, and if they do less damage in pve than a regular necro what’s the point in using them there?

I hadn’t noticed that. I have all sorts of regen stuff traited, that I only have issues with intense bosses + adds. Reaper Elite Shout

in Necromancer

Posted by: Kitty La Boom Boom.4065

Kitty La Boom Boom.4065

I didn’t play much of reaper, but was talking with my guild about a change to make the elite shout “Chilled to the Bone” feel a bit better.

My suggestion is to make it act a little more like the ele overcharges giving it a primary effect and on finishing the shout give it secondary effect.

Currently the shout has a 2s cast time for a 2s AoE 5 target stun and 8s of chill. My change would make it so the shout would have a 1.5s cast time; at .5s of cast time you would effectively chill enemies in the radius first for 5s and then on completing the shout stun enemies within the 600 range.

Less technical terms once the player character said “Chilled” it would chill enemies, then when the player character finished the shout with “to the Bone” it would then stun.

Thoughts?

My thoughts are that Shouts should not have a cast time.
If a skill that does what these “Shouts” do have a casting time, then they are not Shouts. They are Curses and Summons. If they want them to be proper Shouts, then they should remove cast time altogether.

Yes, I miss those events too, and I wonder why they didn’t implement more.

I think this can be answered the same way as questions such as…

Why didn’t they add:

  • the emotes that were in Guild Wars 1?
  • the <insert class here> from Guild Wars 1?
  • build templates from Guild Wars 1?

etc.

The answer to all of these is “Who knows?”

If we never got anything else carried over from GW 1, I would be 100% satisfied if we got build templates. I miss those more than anything else.

I was just thinking this yesterday when I was tweaking my Syl. She’s either too skinny or oddly her calves get plump with a less slim figure which just . . . looks odd.

I wanted sliders so badly!

…or the human presets..If I want a muscle tone at all, or a thicker body, I have to take the smaller breast size. Or®! If I want bigger breasts, she has to be skinny and/or have spherical breast implants…or a small breasted Norn? Fahgettaboudit!
Now that I check it out, I think the Sylvari actually have the most natural looking breast shapes, lol. They have that nice slope (like there’s actual gravity there, lol) to them that the Human and Norn don’t have.

Could we please have some additional body types, or sliders added to the kits?
People come in all sorts of shapes and sizes, and far too few, for the females, at least, are represented in the presets.
At minimum, I strongly believe, that we should be able to adjust muscle tone. Having a female wielding a GS when it looks like the heaviest thing she’s ever lifted was a 10lb (25, if she’s Norn) free-weight at the gym really loses something.

The other, is more ethnicity based facial presets, and hairstyles.
To put it bluntly , putting a darker skin tone on Krytan or Norn features will not make a character with Elonian or Canthan ancestry. It just makes them look like they spent too much time in the tanning bed.

Thank you for your consideration <3

Agreed. Shouts should not have a cast time, and GS att speed could really stand to be increased. I know they are worried about making stuff OP, but really, it’s still cloth armor. We’re meant to be in the thick of it; if they aren’t going to give us flame resistant Kevlar, then they need to let us be able to attack faster, lol.

Melee is nice, but sometimes that’s not possible due to too much AoE.

Axe: more damage on all skills, blast on #3
Focus: reduced cast time and cooldown on all skills.

What if we could get RS on f1, and DS on f2?

I like Rise. The other ones are kinda meh. The Elite shout takes too long to cast, but it’s effective if you don’t get interrupted. Come to think of it, they all do. Shouldn’t shouts be instant by their very nature? I think I’d put Suffer back on my bar if it was insta-cast.

Necros are “special.”

Then they shouldn’t call them shouts. If they have a cast time, then they are AoE curses. Shouts shouldn’t take any longer to activate than they take to vocalize.

One thing though..any chance we could get a target strip for Deaths Charge?
It’s funny as heck in Beta, when I Death Charge straight to my death over a cliff or a bridge, but I can see it being not so funny after the 10th time, when my group is trying to accomplish something and they have to keep waiting for me to run back from a WP. With all the particle effects (which are GREAT!, don’t get me wrong), it’s way too easy to misjudge which direction you’re facing, and then hyjinx and suicide ensue.

So far I haven’t noticed any bugs in this spec, but if anyone else has, please list them so I can see if I can duplicate them too.

Posted by: Kitty La Boom Boom.4065

Kitty La Boom Boom.4065

“No Subscription Fee” is not a favor. You’re correct. It is not. “Buy to Play” is a business model. It’s a business model that has worked very well for Anet since GW1.

If the expansion cost (which is competitive with other subscription based MMOs) is too much for you, or you feel it is too much for what you would be getting, then don’t buy it. It’s really as simple as that

If the cost turns out to be prohibitive, and they don’t make enough sales, they will lower the price, eventually. All you have to do is wait.

Games cost time, talent, sweat, and $$MONEY$$ to create.
Are you saying that the people who create these games don’t deserve to be paid for their work, or that they should be paid less, yet still give you more?

Bottom line: Buy it or don’t, but for the love of Tyria, PLEASE; quit yer kitten. these forums are turning into a really depressing place, when so much whining overwhelms actual discussion.

Kitty La Boom Boom.4065

I tried setting my Rev up for DPS, and had the same disappointing experience as everyone else. Since the DPS issue has already been discussed ad nauseam, I thought I’d introduce a topic to discuss other types of play for this class.

I set up my Rev in full Cleric’s, and have so far used the staff with the Ventari legend. I’ve had a lot more fun today than I did yesterday, just goofing off with my friend, who is using the default build and equipment.

So far as I can see, the Revenant is not a solo-friendly class. I usually solo, but when I group up, I like to run floater classes (off tank, field medic, battery, and all around PITA to the opposition). I didn’t care for this class at first, but now that I’m exploring other styles than DPS, I see a lot more potential.

Thoughts?

Would like to see a Revenant Story Line

in Revenant

Posted by: Kitty La Boom Boom.4065

Kitty La Boom Boom.4065

It’s a nice idea but extremely unlikely to happen. It’d be a huge change from the format every other profession uses, and since the revenant is intended to be ‘just’ another profession – not a special stand-alone one – it’s highly unlikely they’ll get any special treatment beyond being exclusive to people who buy HoT.

But also the idea of playing through the story to unlock access to legends wouldn’t fit with the existing skill/trait training system, and sounds too similar to the ‘old’ system where you had to complete specific tasks to unlock traits – which angered a huge number of players.

They could make it part of the Personal Storyline within the character’s homelands.
I’d actually really like to see them do something like that with all the professions—Have one of the missions that you do in your starter area be based on your chosen profession.

Not only does it look great, it looks like you could actually fight in it, instead of most of the other heavy armor sets, which look like they’ve completely sacrificed mobility.

If we could sort and compact by bag, that’d work too. That way I could organize per bag, and not just compact everything..like r-click on the bag itself, and it brings up a menu to compact/deposit, etc, like it does from the settings icon.

New Training system questions

I was away for a few months, and I just opened up the hero panel to find it’s completely different. I don’t mind that so much, but i do mind having to use points to “train” skills that I already had use of before they changed things. Now I have to pretty much start over? What gives?

First person camera coming?

Well, I will never use this feature, first person view games give me motion sickness but I’m happy for people who don’t vomit on the screen (and I envy them). Next step: add a “fixed” camera for third person view, the random zooms during jumping puzzles also make me vomit.

I think the “fixed” camera is part of collision detection adjustments you’ll be able to make.
I’m doing a little Snoopy Happy Dance now just thinking about being able to do puzzles without getting sick

I’ll never, ever use this feature, due to how nauseated I get trying to play anything in first person view. But I guess hooray for those who actually wanted it!

I have the same problem with FPV. It makes me sad I can’t play any of the Bioshock games. However, all that other stuff is going to really help with the motion sickness I get from other types of play, where the camera is zooming in and out like it’s on a slinky, or I get turned upside down in tight quarters during Boss fights because so much stuff is going on and squished into a tight space. Also Jumping Puzzles! I currently have a very difficult time with most JPs because of motion sickness. Being able to fine tune my camera and adjust it from doing all that jittering if a leaf happens to be in my face? NOT getting sick is going to help a LOT, lol.

Thanks ANET!!!

I’d rather they fix the classes Ranger Engi and Necro first like people have asked for for 2.5 years, cause that actually would be meaningful improvement instead of a purely cosmetical/gimmicky one.

Not so cosmetic for me. I’ll take not getting physically ill because of camera issues over having to work around class issues any day, tyvm.

Anti Jumping Puzzle Club

My biggest fear for HoT is that the maps will require extensive jumping. I hate jumping puzzles. If the new maps cannot be explored by people who hate jumping then they are eliminating a portion of their player base from the game. I am an older player with arthritis, but I am financially secure. I am probably in the top 10% of players when it comes to spending real money on this game. I don’t think my demographic is one they should try to exclude.

It’s not so much hating, it’s more that it makes me physically ill to do some of the puzzles and vistas. The camera motion (not camera shake. I already turned that off ages ago.) and the way it zooms in and out at certain spots, causes severe motion sickness.

What’s AP?
NM, I looked it up. I still don’t understand why it’s anyone else’s business how many achievement points you have, and what it has to do with how good a player you are.

I’ve come across rain and snow before. I can’t remember the exact locations though. You might need to tweak your graphics settings to get them.

It’s been recently too, since I’ve only been back playing for a couple of months now. I remember noticing the rain, and wondering when they added weather effects.

Detailed Skill & Chain Descriptions, Please?

In the Hero: Weapon Skills panel, if you hover over a weapon skill that has multiple stages (usually the skill in the 1 slot), you only get a description of the initial skill, but no information about the chain skills attached.
It would be very helpful for those of us wanting to really study our skills, and use them more effectively.

This is even more important for the Elite Transform skills, in which all of your weapon skills are replaced, and your slot skills are locked.

A simple extension of the current hover panel would be enough, and would make learning a lot easier for many of us.

Welllll .. I go for tall slender and dark haired, all of which he was. Now he’s tall, not-slender, and gray But I’m pretty darn plain myself and he has a great smile and wide shoulders and a fantastic sense of humor and a ton of competence … yeah, I love him.

If only he played GW2. It’s just not his style of game, alas.

IKR? If I could only pull him away from CoD long enough to get him to just try GW 2, it’d be awesome XD

Ill replace him for you and the best part is I’m probaby the sexiest man alive!

Sorry; he’s irreplaceable. <3
He does laundry, dishes, vacuuming, fixes everything, and…welll….that. He does that realllllly reallly well ;D

Edit: and if I have to explain what that is, it’ll be raining “kittens” in this thread ;D
