Patch Today: Key Farming Impacted

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Kitty La Boom Boom.4065

tl;dr all the whining.
Tip: Take your toons (mains and alts) and start playing as much as possible doing PvE events, for the next couple of months. Whenever a game does something momentous, like have an expansion, a BIG update, or goes F2P…anything that is designed to bring in new players and bring back Vets, drop rates usually increase for a short time. Don’t farm the same stuff over and over, or Diminishing Returns will set in, but rather, go from map to map, exploring, and doing all that stuff you used to do when you first started out. that’s where the good drops should be.

I did that last night and ended up with 2 keys and a chest that contained a very expensive dye. I was able to get my weaponsmith to Grand Master last night XD
Now just to wait until Sunday for my Laurels, bwahahahaha!

Crafting useful at all?

Practically any of the crafting professions are gold sinks. Yes, you can make money through the TP or save money by crafting items yourself (vs buying them outright), but that has the potential to change radically at any moment.

Specifically to a Mesmer or Ele: tailoring would be useful to both classes since they are both Scholars and use the same armor categories. Weaponsmithing and Artificing are both useful for crafting their primary weapons though you’ll need a few weapons from Huntsman as well for a Mesmer. Artificing can also be use for crafting slaying potions.

Jewellery crafting is universally useful for any class as everyone make use of trinkets. Currently, the craft is limited to exotic quality items but will advance to Ascended after the expansion.

The only ones I can see not being immediately useful for you are Leatherworking and Armorsmithing as neither of your toons can make use of the majority of the items that are crafted from that discipline.

Otherwise there are a bunch of one-off type items that require a random crafting discipline.

Again, we have no idea what you’re after so it’s going to be pretty difficult to point you in a direction. If you’re ultimate goal is making of the post though, you won’t find many people willing to part their money making secrets as those flipping techniques/secrets are what’s making them money.

Please show me source on the bolded part no were have I read that jewelery will get bumped to 500, always made me kinda bumed it wasent already upgraded since my first char was jewelery/huntsman

Yes please. I was really bummed to find out my chef and jeweler couldn’t create ascended items.

For the long term, I suggest tailoring and artificing. Tailoring will allow you to make the ascended thread and cord(account bound) needed for making Damask and Elonian Leather (ascended, sellable). Artificer will allow you to make the account bound glue and mithrillium for sellable ingots and planks. this way, regardless of whether you choose to craft ascended gear or not, you can still craft the time gated materials and make gold from that. You can also craft those at any level, I believe, so if you start early, you can create enough ascended mats for your own gear, plus have extra for selling on the TP.

Also, the fastest, cheapest way to level crafting is via the refinements, then backpacks, then components, and sell the components/insignias/inscriptions on the TP. Use a crafting booster, ALWAYS, whenever you can get one.

The Cantha Thread [Merged]

I, for one, would like to see representations of as many of the developed human cultures as possible.
Asian (Cantha), Hispanic and Latino, Anglo, African and Middle Eastern (Elona)….
Every player wants to feel like they can be fully immersed in the story, like there is a place for them within the cultures of Tyria. I think GW 1 really tried to do that with Cantha and Elona, and I wish they would continue, and improve upon the that tradition in GW 2.

Kitty La Boom Boom.4065

This is subjective, since my idea of fun may be someone else’s annoyance, and some folks won’t like attacks no matter what. I was just so tickled by this particular one that I thought I’d mention it, in hopes it won’t be changed or done away with.
Alrenatively, it doesn’t need to be fun, but definitely makes the fight interesting.

1> Giant Hylek that throws you straight up into the air (Huh…I wonder if I did it right, I could get him to toss me up to the next landing, lol). It feels like a trampoline, since you don’t take much damage from the actual attack. It’s just “Whoopsy!” (interrupt+a couple of seconds recovery time)

2> IIRC it’s the Mounted Cavalier that does another launch type of attack. It’s a pain in the butt, and the consequences can easily get you killed if they gang up on you, but the tumbling across the field is well done. It makes it feel like a real fight, rather than a dodge and spank.

Are Elite Specializations a Weapon Toggle?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Kitty La Boom Boom.4065

Kitty La Boom Boom.4065

So if I want, I can weapon swap between Longbow and Hammer?

As long as you have the Elite spec slotted; Guardian is Dragonhunter, so in your hero panel, you’d go to where you set up your specializations (just another fancy word for passive skills) and make sure that Dragonhunter is set up in one of the 3 rows of specialization slots. Since Dragonhunter is the Elite Specialization, I’m going to guess that it won’t become available until level 80.

In case you are not familiar with the Specialization slots, I have attached a screenshot of my Guardian’s Specs. She’s only Level 51, so it’s not full yet, but you should be able to figure it out.

Since Guardian is one of the classes that allows for weapon swapping, you should be able to equip a longbow in one of your available weapon slots and swap between weapons like you would any other weapon, but only when the Dragonhunter specialization line is applied.

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Kitty La Boom Boom.4065

I think OP has a valid concern. Core maps have a lot of stuff you can do if you’re alone or there are few people about. The new map really needs a group to have something to do. I managed to do some events solo, but it was a slog and I wouldn’t have done it if I didn’t want to test the new specialization. I worry that this, combined with the density of new, harder mobs will leave the maps deserted after they stop being new and fresh. Masteries may help populate them though.

I agree. Look at Southsun Cove. It has the same problem. It’s why I almost never go there. I don’t mind mobs being harder, but combine added difficulty with added density, and it’s just too much, unless you have something else to break up the constant threat.
I think Silverwastes and Drytop are good examples of balanced mob populations. At least if you die during an event, you can dodge and weave your way back from the base camp, and get back to business without too much trouble.

IMO, making the mobs more difficult should just make you play smarter, it shouldn’t make it nearly impossible to get from point A to point B on your own, which you need to do, if you die during an event or activity and have to WP. (in case anyone was thinking of interjecting with “well go with a group..join a guild….”.)

It’s supposed to be the last one in the chain..it’s at the bottom of the list anyway, but the last one that actually seems active is the Legendary Wyvern.

Why Anet did u made mobs easier . WHY!!

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Kitty La Boom Boom.4065

Kitty La Boom Boom.4065

The problem is complicated by a number of factors:

1. How many players were playing a new class last beta vs this beta? If you played a new class last beta but not this beta, that could be part of why it seems easier.

2. Are they testing in a different area? Maybe this area is supposed to be an easier area than last week’s beta.

3. What one player says is hard is another’s easy.

I actually find this map more difficult than the previous one. It has zero indigenous allied areas, and nothing to do except kill or be killed. There is no respite from survival mode, and no breathing room to just explore. It’s definitely not a solo area (I mostly solo or duo, and sometimes will follow a larger group during events)

The mobs themselves aren’t necessarily easier or harder than the previous map, there just seem to be a LOT more of them, and the overlap + lack of proper gear/build is what ends up killing me. It’s hard to find a spot where I can practice the stuff I come up with, and get used to the new specs to properly learn how to be effective with them enough to experience anything else.

More and more I am missing all that gear I had prepared to use for this BWE. I have spent more time working out builds this weekend, than actually playing
I finally have something that seems to be working ok, and at least I have better survivability than before. I still feel like I can’t really test well, because of so much time just figuring out what build and gear set up works best so I can live long enough to even complete an event.

So far, it’s CleriMonk Armor + Zerker accs/weapons FTW…who’da thunk?

I thought I’d give the Axe/Focus combo a try. I usually do D/WH or D/D, and staff, but I switched out the staff for the GS. The GS seems better this time around, but I’m still not thrilled with the timing. I can be really fast with a staff, even though it might not do as much damage per hit..it hits more often, plus marks.

I’ve got SR: 1/2/3 (because FIRE) but would I be better off with Death Perception?

I’d still like a merchant in the starting spot of the Beta area. It’s the easiest way to clean out my bags, since destroying anything requires me to confirm (which is good, but time consuming) just being able to sell my trash would be nice, instead of having to hop over to the normal area each time. Bank access would be nice too, to store the extra gear. I know I can just hop over to DR, but it’s a convenience thing that would just be nice to have during Beta, so we can spend more time playing, and less time sorting and traveling.

I’m missing runes and weapon stats that cannot be acquired via the beta bundles (Giver’s +condi duration weapons, and the closest I can get to my Mad King runes is the Krait set, and that’s ok I guess, but not nearly as fun, lol Hopefully the additional poisoning and torment will make up for the missing birds). They might not have the ability to do a new bank snapshot without resetting the beta accounts. Which would be fine of they weren’t trying to test the mastery progression. Which is best done over the course of more than just a few days.

And testing mastery progression is better than everyone being able to find their builds for HoT.

I get that, but I would not have made the time/emotional investment that I did into my bank prep if I had known they weren’t going delete everything from last Beta as it says they would. I could have spent that time doing other things..I know it’s silly, but I’m just really disappointed I won’t have that stuff..especially the Dreamthistle GS skin, that I spent a LOT of time grinding out the gold for. Not a bad suggestion to have a 5 minute preview of your new makeover before you commit to it.

However, you would then have to find a solution to this issue; how would you stop players from simply re-applying the 5 minute preview every time it runs out? And thus, they never actually consume the makeover kit, and can infinitely re-change their look forever?

That’d be kind of a PITA, wouldn’kitten I can’t see anyone doing that every 5 minutes, indefinitely. They’d never have time to play the game.

What was the point of him paying $40? Now he won’t even touch the game after all this. I could personally see playing the game if I at least got HOT for $30 but $60 is just stupid considering how much bullkitten went on for 3 years and that I still regret having ever pre-purchased this game myself.

How recently did he purchase the core game, or did he prepurchase HoT? If it was within a short time of the FTP announcement, and it doesn’t already have the HoT pre-order attached, he might be able to work something out with Anet CS.

Top 5 best values in Black Lion Gem Shop

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Kitty La Boom Boom.4065

Kitty La Boom Boom.4065

Either a marketing rep in disguise or someone who somehow does not have any idea what the term ‘value’ means.

The copper fed salvage-o-matic is not cheaper from a real world monetary perspective no matter how long you use it, it will never give a rate of return that outweighs its gem cost because of the continual copper cost whch could be converted to gems and the fact that it doesn’t even give you the hightest salvage level. It is actually a better value to buy or convert MF stones and make mystic salvage kits in both the short and long run.

Black Lion keys have a near zero rate of return on your investment until you open hundreds. That’s like saying the state lottery is a good deal.

I found it worth the $ because I was sick to death of taking up valuable pack space with multiple stacks of basic salvage kits, and constantly running out of those. I prefer the basic salvage to the MS kits because they have a lower rate of extracting upgrades (which take up a LOT of bag space, and have to be tossed because the minor upgrades from all the blues and greens I salvage are worthless. Plus, I get more silk ($$$) than gossamer(-$) and even some linen and wool.

If I wasn’t currently trying to build my ascended armor set, I’d be making bank on mats from salvage (still do, just not as much since I’m no longer selling cloth or leather)

If you do a lot of SW runs then it is definitely worth it.

As for BL keys, I think that’s subjective. No, they aren’t an investment that is guaranteed to make gold, but they’re still a lot of fun to many of us, and I’ve gotten some really nice stuff from the chests It is like buying a scratch ticket, lol. I’ve had way better luck with those chests than I ever have with the lottery tho, lmao.
