If GW2 really does aim towards Casuals

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Casuals want to earn their stuff too, no one said anything about no effort- it might take them longer but generally they don’t mind, because they are casual.

What they do not want is to have a gear tier or gated content that you have to play in order to get to play what you want to play.
or in the words of Anet " preparing to have fun"

But it’s already here. If you want to progress through higher levels of fractals, you better grind time gated dailies and guild missions. But since it does not concern casuals (as they don’t do higher fractals) you don’t mind, right?

Casual players want what they can earn same as you.
They just don’t want to be forced to spend hours a day getting stuff so they can play the game.

So casuals want shiny stuff without any considerable effort just because they play casually?

-snip-

I think you’re right. But what else might be a proper reward for the best players taking high risk, except BiS gear?

-snip-

By “hardcore” players I didn’t mean the real hardcores – but the folks that play at least like 15-18 hours/week, log in almost daily and have at least a decent level of skill. I wish there was a better name to describe and distinguish them from those who play casually, both in terms of time and self-improvement.

All MMOs need dedicated players. They push the demand for new content, they discover bugs and exploits quickly, they form loyal, stable and reliable core of the playerbase. There’s more of them than just a mere 2% (20-30% I’d say) and they throw their money into the game as well.

When it comes down to BiS, we’re all on even footing.

And that’s too bad. Instead of dull and easy activities with time gated rewards, BiS gear should be available from skill-based progression and high risk-high reward content.

A healthy MMO needs both casual and hardcore players. The latter don’t have much to do here.

Dailies - the bane of modern games

Konrad.9587

I feel this game places no pressure on you to get ascended gear, unless you’re going for high level fractals, where you get ascended gear much quicker than via laurals anyway.

You can’t get ascended amulets nor accessories from fractals. The only way to earn this BiS gear is by completing extremely easy, dull, boring and repetitive, yet heavily time-gated content. You may be a good player but your playing skill is irrelevant, it’s the repetition that rewards you. I believe this is wrong, but this approach is present in so many areas of the game…

Usually I prefer to do the chores – the dailies, as soon as possible. This way I can just focus on an activity that actually gives me fun, yet isn’t sufficient to complete the dailies alone.

I do not want gear that is worth 7 days. I want gear that is worth a certain amount of time, time that I can spend when I want to.

This.

Although I would love to have some gear that could only be earned with a certain amount of player skill, not simply time spent.

There is a pathing bug regarding glass panels on Skyhammer. If a panel if destroyed, you are unable to teleport over it with Shadowstep, Infiltrator’s Arrow, Infiltrator’s Strike (thief skills; Blink or Lightning Flash probably wouldn’t work either). Instead of moving you over a broken panel to the destination point, the skill only teleports you to the edge of the panel.

Screenshot attached, I aimed my Shadowstep into the middle of the C point.

It reminds me this fractal 48 run… Apparently some guardians run a mix of MF and support, and don’t even expect that someone will ask them to do damage (he was 90% staff). Btw. by the end of the run he had like 10 rares and similar amount of cores/lodestones. Too bad there were two of his guildies in this PUG.

2. he likely had sigils of night + force on his weapons (15% increase) and runes of scholar (10% increase),

3. Assassin’s Signet (15% increase) and Dagger Training (5% increase),

4. you probably had some conditions (10% increase),

5. you probably had some vulnerability stacks,

6. he was likely buffed through the roof with might, fury and consumables, and was wearing BiS zerker gear.

tl;dr, Bearing all these damage modifiers and RNG in mind, 10,831 C&D isn’t strange.

Do somthing about leavers!!!!!!

in PvP

Posted by: Konrad.9587

Konrad.9587

What i am saying is leave it alone until at which time Anet fixes the match making system. At that time then this viewpoint holds some value – until then it will bring nothing positive to the game.

Improving matchmaking is always a nice change, but I don’t believe it is the cure for leavers and rage quitters. Matchmaking system, even in its finest edition, does not take into consideration an important factor – human behaviour.

I’ve seen people rage quitting when they realized they were facing a premade (even though the premade lost that match to 4 people). I’ve seen people rage quitting because they died in the opening mid point fight (even though this fight was won by their team). I’ve seen 3 people not even joining the match, so it was 2v5 from the beginning. I’ve seen people rage quitting after they caused a team argument.

I’ve seen lots of hotjoin heroes attempting tPvP. Judging by ranks, the matchmaking did fine, yet their hotjoin manners caused their team to loose the match and made someone rage quit.

tl;dr There must be a penalty for rage quitting, unsportsmanlike behaviour and simple kittenbagery have to be discouraged. Hopefully this system will see less of use with different queues for solo and premades and tweaked matchmaking, but it needs to be here, period.

This is yet another reason why PvP players are leaving GW2, solo queue in its current state is just more frustrating than fun.

Okay, fun is subjective. But what do you think, if there is no world boss in Kryta at the moment and you have nothing to do in this place, is it still fun to TP there, kill 40 monsters then proceed somewhere else? Is it fun to TP near Twilight Arbor, kill 3 Veteran Mosshearts and TP out? Is throwing some dungeon loot into Mystic Toilet instead of selling it, a fun? Or crafting 10 Bolts of Silks out of 20 Silk Scraps?

And the most important question, is it fun to repeat such activities daily?

Just had this terrible tPvP game today. Within a minute it was 4v5, after a few minutes it was 3v5 and then the rest just gave up.

Rage quitting is a major issue. It happens like every third match. Is ANet aware of this problem? Are you going to address it in any foreseeable future by implementing some kind of penalty or at least discouraging this activity? In opinion of many players it rots the tPvP scene to a greater extent than poor matchmaking or premades vs random.

PS. Oh, and the opposite team were premade, FYI.

Why no /inspect ?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Konrad.9587

There are some extreme, but not uncommon examples. It’s like third time I reply with them, but you are welcome. 5 signets on a warrior (you don’t need /inspect for this case though), no reflects on the only guardian at grawl fractal 48 or a character with randomly chosen traits and randomly mixed awkward attributes on their gear – these most obvious examples indicate that the player behind them is not really skilled.

Sure, you can play this way when you are alone, but when you join a group, you do harm to your team mates. Guild Wars 2 encourages PUGing. Inspect feature, besides its educational and aesthetic effect, will help in avoiding bad builds that are not suited for group play – yes, magic find leeches too.

Who are you to tell me that my tanky bomb engineer is just plain bad for group play? You’re running into two problems here: 1) you’re assuming people’s build is bad (according to some metric that only satisfies YOU) and 2) you’re not even sure if that build really is “terrible”.

And who told you your bomb engineer is bad? It’s not rocket science but common sense, and you don’t need any kind of a metric to know that 5-signet warrior or the only guardian without a single reflect at grawl fractal 48, are just terrible for group play.

If someone is advertising a speed run, and in the ad already says ping gear, no reason not to. But if for other dungeons, fractals, and what not, where no such thing pinging gear is applied, /inspect becomes possible for people to discriminate against people with other builds.

It is not a matter of discriminating other-than-zerker builds, /inspect will help to avoid builds and gear that are hands down just plain bad for group play and are not suited for any kind of teamwork and cooperation. You can find many examples in this thread, MF gear and 5-signet warriors are the most obvious cases.

Exactly. It does. It will segregate players. Your complaining is equally ironic.

Isn’t segregation already here? In this single thread you can notice the presence of at least two different groups of players with different approaches, that don’t want to play with each other. Even a simple discussion between these two groups turns into a heated argument. Why force them to play together if the don’t want to?

The problem isn’t that people don’t use the only one right build (I don’t agree with ‘zerker or gtfo’ approach btw), the problem is that in group play people use just plain bad builds unsuited for any kind of teamwork and cooperation and see nothing wrong with it.

You still haven’t answered my question though… how does inspecting gear provides that information? You said zerker gear while traiting for condition damage… you’d only see zerker gear. How would you know how they are traited? How would you know that they are carrying the utilities that are needed to provide group play (other than signets) or that they will swap out those utilities later? Weapons can be visible but in the heat of battle you won’t see those either or if they swap out right before a battle. Therefore an inspect gear option is neither helpful to your mentioned information nor is what you are actually looking for.

As I see it, /inspect feature gives information about gear, trait and utilities. Similar to PvP Spectator Mode.

MF is such a small aspect for such a large request though. Also it’s being proposed in a much larger scope so yes please do an elaborate post.

Omitting Magic Find, another example of being not suited for group play is not using certain utilities that in certain cases are crucial for success, using burst weapons and zerker gear while traiting for condition damage and vice versa, using 5 signets as a warrior or using gear and/or traits with odd and randomly mixed attributes regardless of class. You may do this when you are alone, but come on, show some respect and don’t when in a party.

Also don’t bother with MF in explaining this because MF indication can be done in other ways without an inspect feature as well is a minor issue overall to warrant such a huge feature.

Except for sigil of luck, what are those other ways? Even if someone pings a set of gear, he may as well carry two sets and wear the other one.

Don’t worry, players like you wouldn’t be worth our time.

Ok let’s break it down.

1. You assume that you and other person is of equal skill.
2. You relate effective gear to a skilled player.
Ergo
3. By assumption 1, we can assume as well that said player has effective gear.

Therefore, if you assume someone is equally skilled as you, then you must also assume that they have effective gear.

Nice try, but in #1 I only meant the equality of personal gameplay skills, not their high level.

Because every build you don’t agree with is automatically a ‘bad build’ am I right

No, your build/gear is bad when it makes you contribute less to the team effort than the other party members contribute . There are no 36-man raids in Guild Wars 2, there are only five people to share it, thus your share is going to be quite significant.
