I wonder how many other Revenants there will be… Just Rytlock and the PC? A few NPCs in the new zones? Or NPCs all over Tyria?
ANet hasn’t really delivered on the simultaneous telling of multiple storylines throughout the world’s recent history as far as I’m aware (aside from Job-O-Tron). There are a lot of factions, organization, and individual characters that should be having events going on their lives through the past couple of years, but so far, if the PC isn’t involved, then it’s frozen in time or hidden from us entirely.
I don’t see the cleansing of Orr as a priority. What would Orr even be if it were cleansed? Right now, Orr is an epic struggle between Zhaitan and the Pact. If it were to stop being that, what would be in the zone, instead?
I can say that the matter is more of your frustrating inability to understand what the word “replica” means that makes you look foolish.
Foolish? The primary definition of a replica is an exact duplicate. A secondary definition is a close approximation. I stated earlier that a close approximation is possible, just not an exact replica. There’s no confusion on the meaning of the word replica. I entertained both definitions in my posts.
Like you said, the topic has been derailed and I’d like to end the conversation here. No more name-calling, okay?
That’s not what RNG is. Whether or not your interrupt is successful is based on:
- You being in range of your opponent,
- Your opponent casting something, and
- You timing your cast correctly (including lag).
None of those things are RNG. All of them are dependent on the actions of you and your opponent. RNG doesn’t factor in at all.
http://wow.gamepedia.com/Battle.net_Store
They may have re-branded the store in 2013 or something, but it existed since 2009 as the Pet Store. I personally purchased Lil’ XT and the Celestial Steed in 2010.
EDIT: Nvm, you got in a ninja-edit before I finished typing.
ANet is still finishing the expansion. I wouldn’t expect anything new until then.
Dark Age of Camelot never had a gem store for over 10 years. I don’t think WoW, WAR, or Aion had gem stores either, but it’s been a while and they may have added them.
WoW and Aion have had cash stores for years. WAR have been shut down for more than a year.
WoW did not have a cash store when I played it from 2004-2008. Its cash store was implemented in 2013, a whopping 9 years after release. Aion opened a cash store in 2012, two years after I quit, and roughly three years after release. WAR did not have a cash store when I played from 2008-2009. Dark Age of Camelot still does not have a cash store (and instead has a monthly subscription fee).
You’re actually wrong. WoW’s cash shop started in 2009.
Honestly—if you have to make alts just to expand available space, there’s probably a problem with limited inventory/bank space in the game.
Considering this is common practice in basically any MMO (they are called “mules”), I disagree.
Just because my opinion is unpopular doesn’t mean that I should abandon it. I remain unconvinced that there’s any reason for the Caladbolg to end up in the player’s hands and you all remain unconvinced of my stance. I’ll agree to disagree. Feel free to link this thread if the skin is ever released.
When using a specialized extractor, you don’t get a bag. You just get a piece. It’s entirely possible he was looking for a bag and didn’t realize he got the piece. I wouldn’t put it past him, especially since the halves stack.
I’ve been just spawning in and hopping to the first ledge and letting others kill me. gets it over faster. this is just pointless. I have yet to win for the few times I tried, it’s just not worth it.
That’s toxic gameplay. You may as well just not participate. You’re ruining it for everyone else.
We haven’t lost the point. We are stating that Orr is a struggle between the undead and the Pact, both in all of its events and in the Personal Story. Having Orr be cleansed in HoT would mean that they’d need to completely rebuild Orr and create all new dynamic events and find some solution to keep the Personal Story intact.
In other words: in ain’t gonna happen. If you’re expecting it to be cleansed, you’ll be disappointed.
Promotes mindless zerging.
That, I disagree with. EotM promotes mindless zerging. Champion trains promote mindless zerging. But Dragon Ball? It’s not mindless at all. A team that zergs is extremely vulnerable to AoE damage from skill #2. A single player can shut down a whole team if they are chasing one of your teammates in the pit and you have skill #2 handy.
I think Dragon Ball is far from mindless. It works a lot like a small-map FPS. Unless you consider all FPSes to be mindless zerging, then you can’t accuse Dragon Ball of it.
Stuck at 82/100… This lag is unbearable.
I’m not just saying that ANet shouldn’t make Caladbolg a skin that we can use. I know I’d use it if they were to make it. But I seem to be the only one willing to accept that they will not make Caladbolg a skin that we can use, for all of the reasons that I’ve posed.
It’s not just that it’d be difficult for ANet to explain giving us replicas in the lore. It’s that I believe ANet very intentionally set up the lore and aura to make it a unique sword in the universe. Maybe I’m misjudging their intent, but considering we still don’t have the skin, I’m willing to bet I’m correct.
I think the fact that it’s easier to grind gold for silk than it is to grind for silk plays into the “no grind” philosophy. Gold comes from natural gameplay. There are ways to get it faster and more efficiently, but everything you do gets you gold. Farming for a particular material (especially 300 per day) is grinding. They don’t want us to grind.
What I tell people who complain about silk:
> Play the game the way you want to, then sell what you don’t need and buy what you do.
It keeps the economy flowing. It’s the hoarding that makes people feel like they can’t afford the things they need. Sell all those materials you aren’t using and you’ll always have enough money for the ones you want.
I’m not entirely sure how to work the forum search… Any idea how I can look up forum discussions for the episodes of Living Story Season 2 while they were still current? I’m interested in seeing what people were saying, but I wasn’t active on the forums when the episodes were live.
So you think my assertion that only the Pale Tree can create an exact Caladbolg is false? Do you have any evidence at all to back it up? My “stubbornness” is because I believe that I am correct and I am standing my ground.
Saying that nothing in this “world of magic” is impossible means that we shouldn’t even be having lore discussions or holding ANet accountable for mistakes. There have to be limitations for any respectable story/universe.
I’m an NA player and have been experiencing some awful lag in Dragon’s Gaze (and a few sPvP matches) these past two days. I feel your pain, now. Getting interrupts with lag is nearly impossible.
I think ANet has given up on the idea of the overarching Living World where the world physically changes based on the current story. Season 2 limited all overworld changes to small outposts or the new maps. I get the feeling that Orr will be left in a timefreeze like most of GW1’s maps.
What is so unique with the Caladbolg’s aura that it could not be replicated with magic?
The Pale Tree’s butterfly magic is what’s so unique about it. It’s a weapon that can only be created by a single character in lore. Fiery weapons and glowy weapons appear to be fair game, but butterfly auras imply a lady-tree’s touch.
If you can get a sword that is constantly on fire I am quite certain that you can also get some little flowers or whatever to fly around a tree branch.
And yes, the FDS are actually lore-based. They are created as replicas of Magdaer and Sohothin.
Just because blacksmiths are capable of making a weapon glow or appear fiery doesn’t mean that they are capable of absolutely any effect, though. I believe that ANet made the Caladbolg’s aura unique for a reason.
We should be advocating for consistency, not for making exceptions.
I used to love Dragon Ball, but with hte insane lag I’ve been having the past two days, it’s hard to enjoy it. I still play well enough to win, but I have to wait on jump pads to hop and launch pads to leap. And sometimes when I run through health orbs, nothing happens.
Sorry. It turns out that adopting a patronising tone does not make you correct.
lol look who’s talking
ANet wants that money to burn holes in your pocket so that you keep the economy flowing.
One person expresses a negative opinion → the entire game is toxic!
Seriously, just because a few people have a problem with your activities doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t do them. Also, just because you want to do something doesn’t mean that every single player should be in full support of you and everything that you do.
You don’t want people to force their playstyle on you, so respect that because it goes both ways.
By god-created weapons, I thought you meant all the other legendaries. As for the FDS, it’s just a fiery sword. Apparently they can make those.
As for Zommoros making a Caladbolg, maybe the Pale Tree’s power is beyond his capabilities. There’s no evidence to state either way.
But the FDS are exact replicas of two potentially god-forged weapons. So why would it be possible to make replicas of those, but at the same time being impossible to make replicas of a tree-branch?
Assuming that there’s an actual lore-supported reason, it’s that the appearance and effect of those weapons are ones that can actually be replicated by blacksmiths. The Caladbolg’s aura effect is one that no blacksmith is capable of replicating. At best, you could get a viney wooden sword, and maybe the white glow.
I’ve found a reliable way to get Linen Scraps is to leave an alt at level 56 and send every single loot container to it for salvaging. Since mid-level materials sell for more, I sell that and then buy my Silk Scraps, etc.
Carry would mean winning against all odds, even though your teammates are bait and die as soon as they leave base.
As long as you protect your teammates, you can carry pretty well in this game type.
elitist thread – there’s a surprise!
Well, yeah. We need some to balance out all of the QQ threads.
The purpose of the class dailies is for people to get experience with classes that they wouldn’t, otherwise. If people are playing the class specifically for the daily, then they are doing exactly what ANet wants them to do: play the class, even if just for a little bit.
If anything, it increases the general knowledge of the playerbase.
There is a lore-supported reason for this, though: Zommoros.
What does Zommoros have to do with the FDS? Especially since there is no way or form that he can give you one of them.
And couldn’t he also supply you with a replica of Caladbolg in that case?
By god-created weapons, I thought you meant all the other legendaries. As for the FDS, it’s just a fiery sword. Apparently they can make those.
As for Zommoros making a Caladbolg, maybe the Pale Tree’s power is beyond his capabilities. There’s no evidence to state either way.
Technically, there would be another character other than the Pale Tree that can create a Caladbolg…
Malyck’s tree.
Potentially, yeah. If it was more powerful than the Pale Tree (and more enterprising), then it could mass-produce Caladbolgs. Since the Pale Tree never made a second Caladbolg after the first one was lost for decades, I assume that she simply can’t make a second. So it’s possible that Malyck’s tree is just as limited.
Especially two turret engis in a team fight. Two rocket turrets left operational means your team needs a LOT of stability and projectile destruction/reflects to stand a chance.
Maybe OP is just a troll. The fact that he still hasn’t responded to anything suggests that this was trollbait.
If you really have a problem with the direction of the game, take a break and come back when something you deem acceptable has been released. Until then, the PvP forum already has enough negativity without you spamming it with expansion-related qualms.
I assumed he was saying something much more vulgar, implying that a bunch of intense ERP features would be behind a paywall.
Also, flower petals, not butterlies. It has a similar (if not the same) particle effect as Kudzu (minus footfalls).
No, they are actually butterflies. It can be hard to miss if you don’t look closely, but the wings are flapping. [&AgGUUwAA]
Mesmers butterflies are always pink. The Caladbolg’s butterflies are blue and yellow. This is a unique effect in the universe, AFAIK.
So a replica of Caladbolg would be wood that is carved – perhaps painted even or magically enchanted – to look like Caladbolg, but not function like Caladbolg.
If the desire is to just have a viney wooden greatsword without the Pale Tree’s magic, then I can’t think of any reasons against it in the lore. In fact, I’d like to have one myself (if Elementalists’ new specialization lets us wield greatswords… fingers crossed!). It’s only the full skin of the Caladbolg that I don’t believe can exist in the hands of multiple characters at once. I’m not aware of any evidence that supports a character other than the Pale Tree being capable of creating the same weapon.
And yet thousands of players can run around with exact replicas of supposedly god-crafted weapons without anyone having any sort of issues with it.
There is a lore-supported reason for this, though: Zommoros.

I’m at 64/100 with 135 wins. It just seems to come from natural play, for me. I mean, I try hard to get the buff, but I don’t go out my way to get the kicks. Winning is still very valuable IMO.
Conquest is a game mode that favors the immobility of turrets. If we weren’t playing Conquest and had other game modes, then it’d be a different story.
The new map isn’t going to be a paid feature. Everyone gets access to Stronghold.
What is a paid feature is the new specializations. So, if you want to experiment with new builds, that will be the way to do so. But if you aren’t the kind to experiment and only want to play builds that other people made, then it’s a risk to purchase.
Also, if you like the game, support it. If you don’t, there are other games out there.
The butterfly aura doesn’t exist on anything else AFAIK. The only “magic” that can create it is the Pale Tree’s. When a weapon can only exist by being created by a single character in the universe, it wouldn’t make sense for thousands of players to be running around with one.
Confirmation bias.
Personally, I think it’s a great thing to mimic successful games in our game. Success breeds success.
I believe that if something is OP in PvP, it’s also OP in PvE. ANet just didn’t notice it.
Yes it can.
Read what I said. A replica does NOT have the same origins as the original, it only looks the same. A replica of Caladbolg could easily have been made from any tree, painted, decorated and carved to look exactly like Caladbolg even though it is not really Caladbolg.
Caladbolg isn’t a chunk of wood. It has a white glow emanating from the center of it and an aura of butterflies flying around it at all times. It also has the essence of the Pale Tree which empowers the user. It can’t be replicated by carving a piece of bark to look similar to it.
PvE balance isn’t really a thing in GW2. PvE is always unbalanced. Certain classes do things that other classes can’t.
In WoW, PvE balance meant keeping all classes within a cretain percentage points of each other in terms of affectiveness while playing the same role (eg. all DPS specs were ideally within 10% of each other). In a game without roles, there’s really nothing to balance. Every class has a means of doing damage and not dying? Balanced enough.
Not that any of this matters. Stronghold will devolve into a couple 5v5’s and whoever wins them snowballs the game.
You could say the same about Conquest, but rarely does that happen. Someone leaves the 5v5 to accomplish other things and further the interests of their team.
One of my theories is that it doesn’t shield them.
The Dream gives the Sylvari a purpose, but that purpose isn’t actually known until after a Mender tells you how to interpret your Dream. During the Dream, they are hands off. The only example we know of a Dream being interfered with is the PC’s dream with the Shadow of the Dragon. It’s possible that the Menders and the Pale Tree are actually reactive. It would explain why Wynne was able to see a part of the Dream that the Pale Tree would rather have kept secret.
I agree with Trey. I’m still incredibly jealous that Medium armor classes get jeans.
