I played through a normal match with no d/cs, no AFKs, and was top score (on a losing team) in a game where the enemy team made a huge comeback at the end. At no point did we give up and at the end of the match I was contesting a point against 2 enemies. I said “kitten we had it for a bit there too” at the end of the game to which an opponent responded “yeah gg”.

The match was over, people already left before me on both sides, I left the match, and then I had a dishonor timer.

What gives?

EDIT: I notice that the “d” word is censored on the forums. Does that mean it’s considered a profanity in-game? Did I get dishonor for using profanity….?

Consider that Imbued Melodies isn’t only a Magnetic Aura. It’s also a blast. So, if you are keeping fire fields down, then you are getting lots of might, consistently.

In general, I feel that all ICDs should have an option to be visible on the UI. People oftentimes claim that ICD traits are “passive” and don’t require skill, but if that information was always available on the UI, then it’d be more obvious that it was actually skill.

This is another one of those times that I weep for addons. One of the things that kept me playing WoW much longer than I otherwise would have was the ability to show whatever I wanted on my UI. I could build my UI to give me enough information to consistently be the top DOS player in a raid or greatly improve my damage output in PvP. ICDs would show themselves ticking down and then, when they were ready, they’d stay on screen until I made use of them (and even count up to show how much uptime I lost).

Especially now with the addition of raiding, anything that can be used to improve my DPS and general awareness of my class would be more than welcome.

Also, WP just posted a video on a burning build that runs Fire / Arcane / Tempest, utilizing Evasive Arcana and Arcane Precision to pump out stacks of burn.

Flame Burst does nothing when there’s no target selected. This isn’t a nerf. It’s a buff. It stops you from wasting Flame Burst when you lose target.

Oh, quit whining. At least your meteors still nuke people for 4k+.

Try being a ranger with laughable 1-1.4k Barrage ticks that trigger even MORE retaliation so you take off maybe 20% of the melee train’s health in exchange for 60-70% of your health.

It’s so obvious you haven’t played greatsword mesmer or ranger if you think retal unfairly targets ele, at least you actually do damage while mesmer in WvW remains a portal/veil bot and rangers are stuck with single target DPS in a zerg format all about AoE.

Retal is the least of ele’s problem. Lack of build diversity and being pigeonholed into celestial because of terrible baseline survivability are far larger problems.

I don’t think this thread warranted any of this salt.

This has ALWAYS been an issue with Meteor Shower. It’s the main reason why running the extra-damage-over-90%-HP water trait is not typically recommended.

With Tempest, you now have a bit more access to Protection, so you can mitigate the damage a bit more now than you used to.

I feel like the person complaining has never played Ele before.

DS only works while the Ele is above 90%. That means that ANY time where the Ele is below 90%, they can get condis. Eles yo-yo all the time and 10% of our health is very little.

If you think DS is passive, then you don’t realize how easily Eles drop below 90%.

Team play also counters Diamond Skin. A power class damages the Ele to 90%, and then its your turn.

Being completely invuln to condis completely rules out the option for a condi spec to go 1v1 an outer node. It isn’t like Eles don’t have a tun of condi remover on short CD’s.

So in your opinion, you should be able to 1v1 every class no matter what?

And honestly, it’s a L2P issue. Just like you don’t load all your burst into a guard while they are blocking, you don’t load all your condis into an Ele while they are at full HP.

Overloads make Tempest more than worth it on Celestial Staff because you’ll actually have time to cast them.

Overload Air + Meteor Shower or Overload Fire + Lava Font give out a huge amount of pressure, especially in teamfights.

Overloads are stunbreaks.

So is Eye of the Storm.

And you can still run cantrips. Personally, I’d say at least one cantrip is still required if you are doing PvP. I still run Mist Form in WvW.

If you are going to run mostly cantrips, then there really is no reason to run Tempest. You are better off going off Arcane. The overloads themselves aren’t strong enough to take Tempest in and of itself; the only reason it’s viable is the synergy with auras.

Your assessment is a bit off.

Overload Air is a very powerful attack if you can get the full cast off and has a large enough radius to cover most points in PvP. Couple those lightning strikes with your own (or a teammate’s) burst and you have essentially killed your target.

This assumes that you are capable of getting the full cast. Stability, controlling the fight, waiting for the opponent to use their CCs, etc. are all ways of almost ensuring you will complete your cast.

Also, the passive stun break from Gale Song makes Tempest very desirable for fighting CC-heavy classes like Dragonhunters.

As for auras, just because you lose some from shouts doesn’t mean you have none. Personally, I’ve found that full shout builds are complete trash outside of teamfights. I opt for at least one cantrip, most of the time. Without cantrips, you will almost certainly die to traps.

I’m not saying that Arcane or Tempest is better, just that shouts aren’t the only reason to go for Tempest.

I’ve had some decent success with full ascended celestial and air/arcana/tempest, s/d fresh air and glyph o storms in air attunement but it isn’t exactly something stellar.

Tempest and Arcane are kind of competing ideals, so it’s hard to justify using them together. Not to mention you lose out on all of the synergy of the other traitlines with either.

Ele is literally the squishiest class and doesn’t fit into the playstyle of the xpac. The way to level is to tag lots of mobs quickly. Staff & Scepter are slow at tagging, so dagger is our best way to tag. However, being in melee puts us at risk.

So, in order to do the same things other classes do, we have to constantly heal and heal, which makes us incredibly susceptible to dying to CC (which the mobs have a huge amount of) or one-shot mechanics (that are more like two-shot mechanics to most other classes).

I don’t think that Ele’s HP necessarily needs a buff. But if we had something for PvE that made us just a little bit more tanky while mainhand-ing dagger, it’d feel a lot more comfortable. Or some stealth like the other squishy classes.

Until then, Ele has a skill cap for PvE that doesn’t exist for the other classes.

If they just buffed the heal on it, I think it’d feel very “Elite.” I think the base heal should be the amount you’d get from getting rezzed from Downed state, since that’s essentially what Rebound should be doing: skipping your Downed state.

Rebound shouldn’t just show when it procs on you, it should also show when it procs on anyone. I’ll pop it when I think people are going to get themselves killed, but I never get the satisfaction of know if I actually saved anyone.

IMO, it should be a large noticeable effect. Like, a mostly-transparent Dwayna or Lyssa that hovers above the player that was saved.

Has anyone else noticed that Fireball no longer damages through walls?

I’m not sure if it was a global change, but you can no longer use fireball to splash damage on the top of walls in WvW to hit enemies hiding just behind the ledge.

It still hits hidden shield generators, though (or whatever it is we are hitting inside of the walls of keeps/towers).

How do/will we find raiding guilds?

Back when I played WoW before playing GW2, raiding was my favorite thing to do. I was in a hardcore raiding guild that pushed for at least 20 hours a week (30 when new content was released) with 25-man, and further for 10-man if needed. I really enjoyed the experience and the closest I’ve come to that in GW2 is structured WvW fight-nights.

Now that raiding is coming to GW2, I’m really interested in finding a strong raiding guild. However, this seems like it’s going to be particularly difficult, especially compared to finding a strong WvW guild.

With the megaservers, I feel that I’ll never be able to find a strong raiding guild, as most guilds I’ve found via the megaservers are casual guilds with big ambition and little action. Does anyone have tips for finding raiding guilds? Are there any tools for connecting guilds with players?

Just a note, I did take a look at the “Looking for” forum. It looks like a mess. :/

I think GW2 should adapt a double-tooltip system:

- Simple: Use keywords and short descriptions to show what a skill does. For example, use keywords like “light,” “moderate,” and “high” to describe damage.
- Detailed: Show all relevant attributes of a skill, including some of what you mentioned here.

Staff roaming is very dependent on stunning/immobilizing you before a burst. Burst typically consists of Lava Font, Lightning Strike (from Air and from Lightning Rod), potentially Meteor (though rarely a full cast), and Arcane Wave/Arcane Blast. It’s actually pretty easy to counter if you’re not being too aggressive.

If you play too aggressively you play right into their hands. Staff’s stuns depend on you running into their casts. Assume they are always trying to catch you in a static or a wall and use Stability/Blink wisely. If you counter this play, they are incredibly easy to counter.

Exotic d/d for WvW roaming

Without actually using Celestial gear, you can’t expect to have a “respectable” roaming setup. Celestial gear has a larger stat budget than other stat distributions, so it’s not possible to recreate without Celestial gear.

If you are willing to be subpar, then you can mix & match different stat combinations to get a similar build to Celestial. But don’t expect it to be as effective, especially in exotic gear.

Not true. I personally was able to get a refund on my pre-purchase and nothing bad happened to my account. They just removed it.

I ended up re-buying it after they added the extra character slot, though. lol
