Do longtime players get free items too? (Wizard Hat; Merged)

Um, no. You have 7 days. I’ve worked at a GameStop for over 10 years, originally when I was an EB Games employee and GameStop bought them out. I recently left the company, but still keep ties with my store. You can easily do this, as long as you are not outright returning the open merchandise or returning past the 7 day mark. You return it as brand new, then resell if and mark it off their receipt so it cannot be re returned. Also, since apparently you only wanted to use this as an attack on my comment, if you actually read the post he distinctly stated " yesterday/last week".

Don’t jump in in the middle of a post without fully reading it.

You walk into a shop, and buy something, for the purpose of this thread let’s say you buy an Xbox.

The next day, or the next week, whatever, you walk past the same shop and see that they are now doing a 20% off sale, and/or that the Xbox is now being sold with an extra game as part of a special package.

Pray tell, what would happen if you walked into said shop and said something along the lines of

“Ohai, I bought an Xbox here yesterday/last week and I see you are now selling the same Xbox for 20% and with an extra game – any chance you can give me 20% back and give me the game?”

Let me tell you what would happen.

The manager or other member of staff would politely apologise and say that, because you bought the item before the sale, you were not entitled to 20% of your money back and the free game. Then, after you’d left the store, they’d go out back and say to their store colleagues “Guys, you would not believe what this idiot customer just…”.

Then they’d all laugh at you.

Understanding that this is how sales work in the real world, I cannot FOR THE LIFE OF ME, understand why so many of you are crying that you are not getting a wizard hat.

The most common ‘argument’, if you can even call it that, is that, we are here and have supported this game, thus, we should get the wizard hat, not some guy who buys the game in the sale.

When you really think about this, this line of thought is absolutely absurd and completely defeats the purpose of the sales pitch.

The whole point of this ‘promo’ is that it entices people who were maybe on the fence about buying the game, to actually buy it. It makes these people think

“Well, I was thinking about getting the game, might aswell buy it now seeing as I can get a limited edition unique hat.”

Let me tell you something, if Anet were to pitch the sale saying

“Buy the game now and get this free Wizard Hat that everybody in the game also has”, it would not be successful at all.

I can only conclude that this train of thought is a product of this obscene self-entitlement generation that currently plagues the Earth.

To think, for a second, that you are entitled to this Wizard Hat on the grounds that you have played this game for however many weeks… Anet doesn’t owe you anything.

You paid them the 60 bucks and they gave you the game you paid 60 bucks for, along with free content that costs thousands of dollars to develop.

It’s like you buying the Wii U on the day of release for full price and then get butt hurt when 3 month down the line they are selling them at reduced prices and with game bundles. You are not entitled to the cheaper Wii U and the free games, just because you bought it and have supported the console since launch.

TL;DR

Use some god kitten common sense. And get over yourselves.

I’ve worked retail at a GameStop. If you had your receipt they’d give you the difference. Also I know Best Buy does this, Walmart, and most other retail stores. Your analogy was a failure.

I’ve given up on this. I love this game, and will continue to play daily, but the customer care is severly lacking. With the event bugging out and people still not getting their reward, and now the company giving out free digital deluxes to only brand new players, and nothing to their loyal players, I just give up.

At a 20,000 ft level (which would be rather frightening if it actually happened, especially if you just found yourself suspended there, not knowing how it happened or with any means to change your situation), it seems to be an odd question.

Something like this is an incentive to get new people to do something.

When you drive by an apartment complex that has a sign out front that says “Move in special: First Month Utilities Free!”, do you think to yourself, “That’s pretty slick, all those people that already live there get one free month of utilities too!”

I guess I don’t understand why an MMO promotion needs to include free things for people who are already here when it’s just that – a promotion to get people here. You are here, you don’t need a promotion.

Just thinking about this again at 20,000 ft (since I’m apparently stuck there now and can’t move, and it’s rather cold and drafty, and whoever thought to put me there didn’t bother giving me a jacket).

The problem I have (and apparently others do) is that they are getting an unlimited use Elite Skill that many many others do not get. To use your example, it’s like advertising “Move in special, first month is free and you get free utilities for life and a brand new fridge/washer/dryer/dishwasher”

It’s just bad forum right now with how so many people feel shafted after the last event to start giving out such things.

And an elite skill, the pet I think everyone got, not sure, it may be different. The digital Delux from the Gem store is 2000 gems, which at it’s current value on my server is roughly 36 gold, or 25$ cash. Just seems like a kick in the gonads to their players by saying "You guys get it for free, but you guys playing for months have to pay an extra $25, fo what they get for free)

It just hurts.

Um, no, it’s unfair that they get a very interesting summon and a pet.

Also, if you somehow forgot, there are still tons of us that didn’t get credit for that completely bugged out Lost Shores event, and got nothing from it.

The witches hat and devil ears will be back next Halloween, I have no idea what this baseball cap is, as I’ve never seen it.

The Halloween event is a yearly thing, so it’s moot to this topic so I’m not sure why you brought that one up.

The point is that they are giving out items to new players that regular players have no way of obtaining themselves, and that is an unfair way to treat the community.

So if you buy Guild wars, you get a free upgrade to the digital delux edition. That means they get all of this for free:

Summon Mistfire Wolf Elite Skill: Summon a deadly Mistfire Wolf, a spectral animal with unique powers of her own.

Miniature Rytlock: He may not even reach your character’s knees, but this tiny miniature Rytlock still has all the spirit and ferocity of the charr!

Chalice of Glory: This chalice provides your character with Glory, which they can use to unlock PvP rewards (single use).

Tome of Influence: Boost your guild’s influence with this sacred book (single use).

Golem Banker: An automated manservant that allows you to access you storage account from anywhere for 5 days.

PLUS you gate a freakn’ Wizard Hat!

So what about the players who bought it already and has been playing? Are they going to be shafted out of this?

Seems very unfair that you would give these items to new players, but to your players that have been around for months, and who has had to deal with the issues of the game (mainly in the past month or so) get nothing.

Please have someone respond to this. I won’t demand it or anything so I don’t get infracted, I’m just asking a staff member to.

It’s simple, stuff is balanced around Warrior, and all other classes can suffer as a result! Great design, bravo, bravo.

They should, in my opinion, let you gather a group of companions – possible edit their builds slightly or choose their general fighting style. They could have done this with your childhood friend. As an elementalist could have his friend be very tanky offering a much better experience of the game.

It would hve the double benefit of keeping your childhood friend with you all story, therefore making that character more developed and interesting – and personal to your race/background choices.

Thief using melee in Fractals = 20x more needing a rez = slows down group.
Thief using P/P = needing rez 1/20 as much as before, decent damage with the speed, stacking massive amounts of vulnerability on mobs, and dazing with headshot. Unload deals a massive amount of damage when you figure in 15 stacks of vulnerability.

I’d be pissed not seeing a p/p thief in fractals.

I labeled him as a traitor when he constantly stood still in an enemy group and neither him nor the enemies were attacking each other. He was just standing there, watching you asking “Do you need something?”

Currently I run with a complete Vatlaaw Armor set ( http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Vatlaaw%27s_armor ) with full Superior Runes of the Centaur, 2 Carrion Pearl Carver daggers ( http://www.gw2db.com/items/56463-carrion-pearl-carver one with superior sigil of precision and one with a 10% chance of quickness on a crit) and run my skills like this: http://www.gw2build.com/builds/simulator.php#1.7.1.10.13.0.0.0.0.0.156.165.168.176.179.0.0.0.456.459.460.468.475.476.0.0.0.0.0.0.515.0.0.30.30.

I can handle 6-7 level 80 mobs at a time (including vets in the mix) fairly quickly, and have nearly no downtime to start again, and I’ve been known to take out 15 at a time with the use of dagger storm.

For bosses, I switch to P/P for the range and vulnerability skill.

I love the thief, the only thing is is that you may have to learn to evade more than any other class.

Power Vs Precision

in Thief

Posted by: Kyosji.8961

Kyosji.8961

Originally I was focused as a D/D with full on Power/Prec/Crit % Dmg. It’s GREAT is PvE against small groups, but horrible in group battles. I had to test many things out with this and waisted tons of gold, but found that having the ability to crit 60-70% of the time far outweighed the ability to hit harder. having a 5-6k crit every 20 or so hits and everythign else ~1k is not as good as hitting something for 3-4k every 2-4 hits.

Currently I now run a prec/toughness/condition damage build and I love it, not only am I able to handle 6 mobs my level at a time without much worry (I’ve gotten 15 with my dancing daggers), I can take much more damage and heal up better.

As for weapons now with this, I still use D/D for solo PvE, but I use P/P for groups, and everyone loves it. I can survive 10x longer now, and my party LOVES my stacking of vulnerability. add that with a sigil or prec on main, and a quickness sigil on off, and you have a rampaging thief.

I’ve never crashed once on Guild Wars 2 until the Lost Shores event. After we killed the mobs in Lions Arch, I moved locations via WP and crashed for the first time during loading. Since then I crash every so often in Fractals, which is REALLY annoying as it always happens on the 3rd one. Even my guild now is weary on inviting me to group.

I know it’s not my setup. I’m an IT major and I have what would be considered a “top of the line” computer setup. I ran diagnostics on my memory, CPU, Video card, and HDD with no real errors, so I’m pretty sure it’s not my end, but a software issue within Guild Wars itself.

-Eve Online (Boring)
-Anarchy (Hated it)
-Everquest (Not bad, but my interest faded away after a year)
-Everquest 2 (Not as good as the first)
-Aion (Beautiful game, but content was stale)
-Rift (Great Idea, but it was lacking)
-Star Wars Galaxies (Great until JtLS)
-Age of Conan (PvP was fun for a while, but that was it)
-Lord of the Rings (Was in beta, but it didnt hold my interest)
-City of Heroes (Got on when it was F2P, held my interest for a few months then I just stopped playing)
-DC Universe Online (Had a blast, but just lost interest when I capped)
-Guild Wars 1 (Bought all the expansions, but none held my interest. Beautiful world and music)
-Final Fantasy XI (Beautiful game with a beautiful world. Hard game to play without friends that stick to your level, and the level downs were killer)
-Final Fantasy XIV (It looked pretty, that’s it)

I have tons more, working for game companies and review sites, I was always given games to try out.

Guild Wars 2 impressions
Currently I love it. For a new game, they have a ton of content and have great events for the holidays. You don’t see that often. I have yet to lose interest, and the PvP is very nice. It reminds me a lot of Dark Age of Camelot which is my all time favorite MMORPG to date. I’ve played every day so far and I have yet to lose interest in what I was doing. I have high hopes for the future of this game.

Good morning everyone. I am here in search for advice on a PvE/Dungeon group build.

Currently I run with a complete Vatlaaw Armor set ( http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Vatlaaw%27s_armor ) with full Superior Runes of the Centaur, 2 Carrion Pearl Carver daggers ( http://www.gw2db.com/items/56463-carrion-pearl-carver one with superior sigil of precision and one with a 10% chance of quickness on a crit) and run my skills like this: http://www.gw2build.com/builds/simulator.php#1.7.1.10.13.0.0.0.0.0.156.165.168.176.179.0.0.0.456.459.460.468.475.476.0.0.0.0.0.0.515.0.0.30.30.0.0.10

I have spent the last few days messing around with my traits, trying to see if adding to the condition trait line would improve my damage output and such, but found this one to have the highest survivability with the quickest kills. The only problem is that I strongly feel I am not using the thief’s full potential with this build as well, that and I still die a lot in groups for large events and Dungeons.

Does anyone have a build that they feel is stronger in PvE/Dungeons that they are willing to share?

No gold medal, no chest, nothing but a lot of down sickness.

Can a developer please have a look at this, because I know I wasn’t the only person having this issue, as I saw many others wondering where the chest was while others kept saying “right there!”

I know the chest drops a majority of useless items, but I’d hate to have one of those times where I couldn’t open the chest that some exotic or precursor was in there.
